Susumu's eyes traced Nova's movement, not trusting whatever games she was playing. He flinched, knowing that she was only playing with him, as if he was a doll or something. Finally she stopped when she was right behind him, and instantly he made a mini 'jump' and backed away, annoyance clearly shown on his face. "I-I just wasn't ready for that. That's all." He replied in a defensive tone, arms crossed against his chest as his eyes met Nova's, or at least attempted to. Who knows what the girl would try next. It was then that he made up his mind-- he should probably get out of here. "Well, I'm out of here. See ya." Ok, maybe he hadn't meant the 'See ya', but he said it out of habit. He quickly turned around, snatched Michi up in his arms and attempted to leave into the underbrush. Susumu tries to leave. Interfere? ::chinchou::

See ya? SEE YA? Nova barely surpressed the laughter that threatened to trickle from her slightly parted lips as she stood watching the poor guy stumbling over himself in an attempt to get out of her presence. Surely this boy wasn't so inexperienced with women that he felt the need to dash off at the first possible moment? It was quite sweet really. Inexperience was something that always got Nova's attention. After all, what was better than tainting something that seemed so pure?
Running her tongue along her bottom lip, Nova came to a decision; one that she hoped would keep the hapless blonde in her presence for a while longer. She unclipped a ball from her waist and tossed it over the boy's shoulder so the purple and black skunk pokémon was released just ahead of him. "Why the rush? I was hoping you'd help me train up Miasma. After all, I can't become the strongest to ever walk this route without taking the time out to train my team, can I?"
Miasma tilted her head curiously as the blonde. <She has a point.>
Folding her arms across her chest, Nova waited to see if the boy would take her up on the challenge.

For a second there, the duo really thought that they were about to escape from the purple super villain. Now that he really thought about it, purple really was an evil color. It referred to royalty, from what he also heard, but it was so dark and mysterious. The Stunky that appeared before him nearly made him drop Michi, and the poor fish made a 'gloop' sound from getting slammed into Susumu's arms from the sudden stop. 'I was so close too...' He thought with a grimace, slowly turning to face Nova. She looked like she was having a bit too much fun with him, but her point was valid. Trainers needed to train. Fighting other trainers was the best way to do that. But the Stunky, he knew, was a poison type. He wasn't all that sure how he was on antidotes so far, but he did have some old cookies that supposedly took care of that stuff. "Ah, fine. I'll live. Michi, stay put." He grunted as he switched the tiny fish into his other arm as his left hand searched for the right Pokeball. Jenna was the one he wanted; Eleanor's Bidoof. She was sour and mean, but had the right attitude. He hoped that she would care enough to make a proper battle, though. "Out ya go, Jenna." He released the female Bidoof from her sphere, and with a snarl the Bidoof turned to stare at her trainer. What did he want? Why was she always bothered so much? And... <Why the hell are you holding a fish? What is wrong with you?> She grunted, a bit displeased at this sign of weirdness on her owner. Pokemon were only as good as their trainers, and if he was going to pull this stuff off, she was gonna have to have 'a word' with him eventually. <I think she's jealous.> Michi whispered up to Susumu, and he only absently nodded, only guessing it was about what Jenna was rambling about. "One on one sounds good. I'd rather not have my entire team stinking up the Pokemon Center."He was only kidding, but he wasn't looking forward to any permanent awful odors.

Nova allowed a smirk to flash over her face as the bidoof was released, an obvious signal that the blonde had taken her up on her challenge. Miasma scurried round to her Trainer, taking up her place before her like a purple sentinel, head held high and proud.
"Well, I'm glad you accepted."
She flicked her luxurious, purple hair over her shoulder and laugh softly. "Miasma doesn't smell that bad..." the stunky gave her an odd look. "... once you get used to her." Miasma wafted her tail in a pointed way, as though emphasizing her trainer's words.
"Miasma. Screech and Scratch."
Miasma opened her mouth wide, emitting a high-squealing sort of screech from deep in her throat before barreling forwards and aiming a vicious scratch to the Bidoof's flank, preparing herself mentally for any sudden counter.

Susumu sighed at Nova's comments, not entirely amused about her comment on the Stench the Stunky let off. Even he was starting to feel a bit sick from the effects, as if he needed to lay down or something. He pretended it didn't phase him though, showing a resilient expression as they made the first move. Some of his thoughts went through Jenna's move list, and she did learn a new move recently. The only problem was that he had no idea what it did, except that it was an attack of some kind. Sadly, the Pokedex wasn't more specific than "varies with Pokemon", which was annoying. As the loud Screech was let out, he even had to cover his ears a little, being right in the direction of the attack, while Jenna did her best to endure it. Unluckily for her, her simpleness made it even worse than usual. A lot of her natural defense was shaken off, and when Miasma's claws struck against her, she couldn't help but cry out from the massive damage it did. That was with the level different. "Defense Curl. Then Hidden Power." Eyes were narrowed in concentration, wondering what exactly was about to happen. The Bidoof's eyes flickered with acknowledgment at the new move, and couldn't help but feel excited herself. She rolled into a small ball, instantly reducing the Screech's effect by half as some of her defense returned to her. Then, while in this safe position, dark orbs began to dance around her body. Growing and growing in amount like electrons surrounding the nucleus, until it spread out in an attempt to strike its target.

"Hey, you can keep up that Defense Curl, can't you?" Susumu nervously looked down at Jenna, sensing the Stunky get more powerful with that last move. She focused something, and he knew it couldn't be that good for them if Unaware didn't help them. Jenna seemed to mull it over, not exactly wanting to do everything her trainer said, but understanding why he said it. 'Well...we coincidentally agree with each other.' She reasoned, only slightly emerging from her Defense Curl to see what the fuss was about. The stench was getting closer, and she instantly let out a frightened squeak as she went straight back into her defensive position, boosting her defense enough to take the harsh Scratch attack. Now, she was starting to notice a difference in power. That first turn might've got her good, but not now. "Well. That move sucked. Go for Tackle." He remarked, miffed that it hardly phased the Stunky. It acted as if nothing even happened, despite how 'cool' it looked. Emerging once again from her defense curl, she let out an angry snarl as she charged ahead with a Tackle, though she had to admit, she kind of held her breath when she got close.

Despite being dumb looking, it hit pretty hard. Chances were, she was going to end up with a bruise after that. Miasma shook herself, trying to shake off the gentle throb in her side.
"Miasma. Screech and scratch... again." Immediately, Miasma's mouth opened once more, emitting the same, keening screech from before, even as the purple skunk lumbered forwards and slashed upwards with a razor sharp-clawed paw at her opponent.
Nova watched the battle intently, her crimson eyes narrowed very slightly. The Bidoof looked dumb, but it was stronger than it had first seemed. There must have been some level difference, at the very least, for the tackle to have knocked her Stunky down as easily as it had. She would have to keep an eye out for that beaver pokémon's strength, now. |

'I got her?' Jenna thought with a surprised, yet pleased smirk after colliding pretty hard into the Stunky. She had been worried earlier, especially after all of the damage those Scratches did to her, but it turns out it was only because of the changes in her defense. Upon hearing the command that weakened her from the get-go, she immediately shot Susumu a glare, as if ordering him for some kind of plan. "Dodge the Screech." That was the most important thing to dodge at this point. The scratch he could care less about, since it was only strong if boosted with that leading move. Jenna wasn't exactly sure how one was supposed to dodge sound, but she moved away from the Stunky's mouth, and even if she did catch some of the high pitched sound, it wasn't as frightening as before. It didn't even work, actually. The Scratch, however, got her on the side, which she made clear with a pained hiss. "Easy, Jenna. Tackle" He commanded, knowing that getting some offense in was important at this point. It was a shame how dangerous her Simple ability was, seeing that nothing was good about it so far.

Screech had missed it's mark. Oh well, there was no use crying over spilt milk now, was there? She would just have to think of something else.
The tackle command caused Nova's eyes to narrow slightly. Not this time... she thought as the Bidoof came closer to Miasma. "Miasma, up!" The skunk leapt into the air, watching the bidoof with piercing eyes as she flew over her opponent. "Poison Gas!" A thick, purple gas emanated from the Stunky as she landed softly on the other side of the beaver, wafting her tail in an attempt to spread the gas every where.
Nova was getting used to the Stunky's strong stench (they were partners afterall) but she knew the smell couldn't have been pleasant for their opponents. Oh no. Miasma was quite the smelly one.

'Up?! What the hell is she gonna do, fly?' Jenna thought bitterly as her Tackle surprisingly missed, going right under the Stunky's arms as Miasma practically exploded with the most unpleasant stench she ever encountered. So disgusting, it even had a purple coloring to it as it blew around her. She coughed, tears in her eyes as the poison swirled around in her system, effectively causing her pain every turn. "Oh god, I knew it." Susumu growled, raising his jacket's sleeve to his nose as the poisonous smell still came through. His immune system seemed to be fine, but his nose was howling in pain. It literally hurt breathing it in, and he had to imagine that Jenna had it much worse. "Defense Curl and Tackle, show'em you mean business!" He started to get a little agitated at Nova's 'encouragement', but tried not to let it get the best of him. He was old enough to think, use his brain, and realize his Pokemon's weaknesses. The Bidoof coughed, eyes glaring at the Stunky. That was it, no more slow poke defense curls. She charged ahead on her own, refusing the defense boosts due to her unaware yet simple personality, just going right for the Tackle. Level 9 PoisonedTackle

Nova asked with a near innocent expression; as close as she could get to it anyway. She was well aware of the fact that any more tackles from the Bidoof - as the blow connected with Miasma quite sharply - and her little Stunky was going down.
Ever the fighter, Nova spoke words of encouragement under her breath to the little skunk. "Just hold on a little longer... You tough enough..." Miasma made no sound in response as she rose to her feet, shaking slightly with the effort. Nova took that to be a good sign. There was no point in trying to lower the damn dumb pokémon's defense again. No. It was all or nothing, now.
Miasma didn't need telling. Before Nova could form the words, her partner aimed a slightly pained leap at the beaver, claws flashing as she executed another scratch attack. Despite the fact the move was getting old, Nova knew it was all they could really do for the time being. After all, this battle was all about them getting stronger, wasn't it? Win or lose, they were gaining the necessary experience. Though... Nova wasn't about to lose to the blonde easily. |

"To be honest, I expected exactly this. Does not...dull it at all though." He made sure to bite his tongue after that, knowing that probably his own words could be used against him. She didn't seem to be the type to just brutally pick on people, but you never know. So she managed to get him to stay a little longer, which is what he assumed this battle was for. 'But...just to train? Is that it?" He looked at her doubtfully, not sure what her intentions were. "Hey...I don't think I ever got your name." He just realized, though he wasn't all that keen on giving away his own name, but for the sake of politeness, he kind of had to at this point. "I'm Susumu." Heh. Like hell he would tell her his nickname (unless she misheard his name like some of his stupid friends, damn them!). <Pay attention, Casanova!> Jenna hissed as the claws raked against her face, backing away as the attack dug in deep enough to draw a little blood. Scowling as her vision became blurred, she had no regrets for just tackling the shit out of Miasma now. Ok, who needed trainer commands? She was smart enough to at least notice that the Hidden Power did nothing, and Tackle did something. So, choosing the latter, she charged ahead with another Tackle despite the pain in her aching legs. Level 9 PoisonedHit by Scratch WeakeningUses Tackle

Nova said with a wrinkle of her own nose at the lingering smell. She might have gotten used to it, but sometimes the strength of her Stunky's 'aroma' surprised her a little. Nove eyed the boy with a slightly raised eyebrow for a moment, before answering his question of sorts, after he politely gave his name.
"Seraphyna... but I go by Nova. It's easier to pronounce and I don't run the risk of pissing ridiculous nicknames like Phy or Fifi." Her tone was laced with acid as she spoke the last seven words, her eyes flashing in distaste. The last guy who tried to call her Fifi had ended up singing soprano for a month. Prick.
Susumu. Well. That was certainly something different. She'd have to remembed that name to put with his pretty little face. Giving the teenager a carefully measured smile, she watched as the tackle all but wiped Miasma out. Barely holding on, the Stunky retaliated savagely, slashing with a Scratch attack with what little strength she had left. Nova was impressed with the tenacity of her partner; not to mention the sheer relentlessness of the otherwise dumb Bidoof. If Nova didn't heal her partner next turn, she was out of the game; but at least she would have gained a modicum of experience from the battle and in this instance, that was all Nova cared about. |

At Nova's expression at the mere 'name question', he returned it with a look that said 'Come on, I told you mine', and thankfully she did tell her name, which he doubted was a fake one due to the detail she put into it. Seraphyna wasn't a bad name, actually, but that part about the nicknames he could totally relate to. "I can see why you'd give yourself a nickname. People call me 'Shamu', like the whale. Whenever they hear a foreign name they can't say on the first try, they instantly make up a nickname." He sighed, not believing that he just told her that when moments ago he literally thought 'like hell he would tell her his nickname'. But she seemed kind of...nicer now? 'But note to self. Never call her Fifi unless in a harassing anonymous letter.' He thought, intimidated at that sudden hate at the mention of those nicknames. His nickname grew on him, at least. The last move used by the nearly exhausted Stunky was more than enough to draw Jenna onto her knees, panting from the blow as she struggled to get up to fight, but clearly she didn't have the strength. The poison was only moments away from taking her down. "Alright, Jenna. You've had enough. Don't kill yourself." Damn thing. He took out her Pokeball and returned her, despite her will to keep fighting. She gave the Stunky one last look of determination, as well as pain as she was sucked into the sphere. Turning to the Chinchou in his arms, he could only sigh. He wasn't going to make the battle any longer, especially since he now had a poisoned Pokemon to take care of. "Anyways, good battle. It was good practice for the Gym." He nodded towards Nova, perhaps leaving on better note than he ever imagined. Level 9 PoisonedHit by Scratch Fainted [Miasma gains +2 levels. Miasma looked exhausted and so Nova returned her to her pokéball for a well earned rest. "Take it easy, Miasma. Rest up." She would leave the stunky in her ball for a while as she continued along the route. Let her regain her strength. She had fought well. Nova was happy.
"Thank you, Susumu. Miasma needed the experience." She just couldn't find it in herself to deliver a nasty jibe to this kid, now. He had indulged her need for a battle, after all. And whilst she wasn't one to make friends, Nova considered getting to know him more; and not in the manner she usually would. Perhaps they would meet again. Who knows.
"Take care, kid. See you around some time, perhaps." She said nothing more and didn't attempt to stop him leaving. Susumu was definitely on Nova's good side. |

Lose yourself in the moment. Flap flap flap. Keep going, don't look back. Crackcrackcrack. You've got to catch him, this is a score that'll give you time for slack. Crackcrackcrackcrack. Flapflapflap. Crackcrackcrackcrack. Flapflapflapflapflap. Don't lose track of the second, or you'll lose track of your hand on destiny. Win or lose, it's in the moment. You've got to own it. The pursuit of the golden goose continued. Hoothoot continued with it's feverish flaps, past the trees and to the open sky. Past his mother's 'Auntie Owlie' turf, he had to get away. He had tried to escape the feverish and controlling grasp of his mother many times before, and each time he had only been locked further into her clutches. The little brown owl shivered from the cold air chilling the perspiration upon his wings, upon his back. He knew he was hunted, escape or capture. Victory or Death. He would not be a mobster like mother, he would choose his own destiny. His wings flapped faintly against the cool autumn air. This was the moment, he'd have to get away fair and square. “Hooo hooo hoooo hooot hoot!” <Gotta keep going.> the words were a whistle upon the wind. And a cadence was meeting those flaps. Foot after foot, as a breakneck run brought the little Nidoran forward. She had to find him, she had to follow him. Auntie Owlie had put a major bounty upon his little brown hide, and the lavender lass had full intents to claim that bounty. Hoothoot had been a spoiled brat all his life, given all the berries he needed, protected, all the good things. He disrespected his mother for it and refused to help her run protection rackets on the buggies in her turf. Nidoran, she knew how it felt to starve. To be helpless and without protection, beaten, with nothing but dirt and mud, blood and spit. With every cracking stomp of her feet against the fallen leaves of the late autumn-early winter in the meadows and forests which were apart of Auntie Owlie's Route 1 turf, Nidoran came closer to making sure that it didn't happen again. This was her moment. Capture or failure. Victory or starvation. Winter was coming. Those words steeled her with every step. Winter was coming and she had to catch the Hoothoot. There was no pain like hunger, she was more afraid of it than a Charizard's maw. --- Hours passed like the fierce winds of the tundra. Long and Piercing, biting and leaving those who were touched by them sore and worn. A third clearing came, and the little Hoothoot continued with his flapflapflapping. His labored flight pushed purely by the fuel of sheer will. He could feel the prescience on his tail. He swooped down to a lone tree in the clearing, landing upon a low branch to perch, to catch his breath. And he was met by his huntress, the little Nidoran female whom had chased him so feverently for so long. Though she was just as tired as him, just as worn, as she charged forward at the owling, hand outstretched as she lept, scratching the little Hoothoot upon it's chest, sending it cawing in pain as it spiralled into the grass. A battle was taking place not far from Nova, and from the coos and caws, the grunts and growls, it was fierce. ::Hoothoot:: Wild Hoothoot appears. Hit by scratch from Nidoran Female, used Tackle on Nidoran Female.
::Nidoranf:: Wild Nidoran Female appears. Hit by Tackle from Hoothoot. Attempts to growl and Scratch upon him. [ooc; I know that the little wild Pokes are moving a bit fast but I wanted to set this post up right, so sorry for ignoring Nova's immediate noticing them. <3 ]

Was there some sort of battle happening right near her or were two trainer's battling it out to try and up their ego? Either way, the noise was enough to pique Nova's curiousity and so she glided over to where she knew the sounds to be coming from.
Before her, two pokémon were locked in a harsh looking battle. She had no idea why, but hell, she might as well barge in.
Ayra's ball flew through the air, releasing the pidgey in a beam of scarlet light. Nova pointed to the owl and Ayra, not needing telling, rocketed towards it, aiming a tackle at the other bird's flank. Both trainer and pokémon were slightly biased towards gender and the little rodent-like pokémon was clearly the female variant of a nidoran.
Moving to the Nidoran's side, Nova folded her arms and said nothing. She didn't even care why the two were fighting. She just wanted some of the action (that and training for Ayra). |

The little brown and black owl orb of a Pokemon was buffeted from two sides. His tired wings were trying to take off, so he could get out of the range of the Nidoran female, but it didn't come. Her scratch racked his left leg, making the little Hoothoot caw out in pain, as he tried to get away from the pale purple pokemon. <I'll catch you, Hoothoot! I'll catch you and take you back to Auntie Owlie and be rich! It's a matter of survival, so don't think you'll escape!> The little owl looked at the Nidoran female with almost the absolute amount of scorn it could muster, flapping tiredly and finally getting the height it needed. It would flee, that was the only choice, she was stronger than him, or perhaps he was just more tired than her. Flapflapflapflapflapflapflapflap, he fluttered his wings frantically, getting higher and higher. But then Ayra came forward, and that Pidgey slammed into him with a tackle, sending the owling plummeting towards the ground. He felt really really weak, he wouldn't, couldn't fight anymore. He had to try to flee. And so he flapped, and skittered into the ground from exhaustion. It began to wobble as fast as it could away, and the Nidoran didn't pursue it. Her little red eyes stared in shock at the Pidgey that had come to help her. She let out a huff, charging forward to tackle the brown and white birdie. <That little Hoothoot is mine! I'll have the reward, not you, temptress!> Oh, yes, Nidoran female knew all to well the Pidgey was probably trying to tempt the Hoothoot into going with her willingly, and bringing him to Auntie Owlie for the reward. It was her's! ::Hoothoot:: Hoothoot is trying to waddle/run away. Another turn is needed to flee. Interfere?
::Nidoranf:: Used Tackle on Pidgey.
