Taking a breath of fresh air as she walked into the beautiful park, Eleanor let a rare smile- a genuine one- appear on her face. It made her look younger, closer to her actual age, and a lot less intimidating if anyone who had seen her before was watching now.
It wasn't like she despised nature as a whole. Just the weak side of it. Was it so wrong to eliminate the Bidoof who couldn't even swim? The Taillow who couldn't defend itself? The Sunkern who left itself open to predation?
Was it so wrong to take the Pokemon that Trainers were incapable of defending? To make them earn their companions? Their pathetic idealism as they'd taken back their Pokemon was amusing beyond words.
But here, where nature could be appreciated without the weaklings staining the beautiful scenery, Eleanor felt a rare moment of peace.

I rambled so much xD | [bg=000000][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,430px,true][atrb=border,0,true] It wasn't that Joshua had always been a bad person. Quite the opposite, in fact. It had been everyone else who'd ganged up upon him in youth, victimizing him, alienating him. In a way, it had just become the classic case of that bullied kid that snaps and shoots up the entire school, but on a much less obvious scale. Did Josh understand that killing that Rattata had been wrong? Well of course he understood. He was just forcing himself to commit acts of cruelty to steel his emotions. And was that really so bad? He'd emerge from these experiences a strong, unwavering person, take back his self-confidence - and to him, that meant a lot more than a few lives along the way. He'd always been rather selfish, and he could admit that to himself. You had to be selfish when you were the only one that ever gave a damn about yourself.
Not that you'd ever find him complaining about it. In his home, growing up, 'no whining' had been a strict rule that didn't budge for the most logical of reasons. If you complained, you got the same consequence you were complaining about, only doubled. It had sure been an effective way of raising him, because he hardly ever bitched about his problems, or his hardships. He didn't like to make excuses for himself. He was a bit of a sore loser in the sense that it really bothered him when he lost, and he wouldn't congratulate his opponent, but he would not claim that the system was flawed, and that he should have won. If you had the skills and mindset to win something, you'd win.
By God, he was determined to win this.
'This' being the almighty game of life, it was going to take a while. But he was doing his best to remain confident. Joining Team Death had been one step amongst the thousands he'd need. Beating the Elite would be another, but only when he was stronger. It was with these thoughts that he carried himself to the park, actually enjoying the day, the weather. He was in his 'people' mood at the moment, actually acting somewhat civil to the other members of society. Not that he'd grin at them and say hello... he'd just refrain from scowling and glaring. Of course, it was all an act. Practically everything he did in the public eye was an act. Getting to know the real Joshua Dale was an art-form in itself.
He had not expected to run into anyone he knew, however remotely. Sierra, perhaps, would enjoy a place like this, but he hadn't expected to see her, either. And he didn't. No, it was another woman who caught his attention, one whom he felt he should recognize. He'd never learned her name, but he knew that they were allies. Would he say hello? Perhaps if she recognized that she was no longer alone. He was hardly to type to greet someone's back, and seeing as she was not facing him...
He did, however, give her a slight nod once he passed, not in the mood to be entirely uncivilized.

Eleanor caught sight of a boy nodding at her. She recognized him, though names hadn't been distributed, otherwise she would have made a point of learning his. He certainly stood out. At six foot, Eleanor was taller than most people, man or woman, but here was someone even taller.
Well, she needed to be polite. This Trainer carried himself with an air of confidence. Whether or not his Pokemon were stronger than hers was yet to be seen. But this was neither the time or the place.
In the meantime, a polite, frozen smile was the perfect expression for the situation as she folded her arms over her chest, eyes never leaving the boy in front of her as she paced up and down.
He seemed to be around her age, but looks could be deceiving and that was yet to be seen. "I didn't expect to see a familiar face around here," she said by way of an ice breaker.

This suited Joshua just fine, for he was not the type to expect warmth and kindness from anyone at all upon their first encounter. How on Earth had he and Sierra bonded to become friends? It remained a mystery, even to him. Normally, the personality of the girl would have revolted him. Too nice. Too sweet. Too genuine. It wasn't that he wanted to be treated unkindly, merely that he'd never really experienced such willing friendship, and it threw him off balance.
This woman, however, was the perfect example of the people Joshua could get along with in a civil manner. "Nor did I," was his simple response, his tone not as flat as it usually was, but still revealing nothing. He was good at masking emotion, provided it was not anger. Anger was something that he unleashed in full force, like a ravaging fire to rain hell over that which caused the flare in temper. Luckily, he had no reason to be angry with her. Quite the opposite. "Especially not someone familiar in this sense..." He trailed off, figuring clarification was not needed. He was merely bringing the element of Team Death into play, acknowledging that they were both on the same side while still carrying conversation. "This park... hardly seems the place..." His tone was quiet and contemplative, and he glanced around them as he spoke the words, before turning a liquid-steel gaze back to the woman.
"Your name was not something I picked up on," he mused. "Not that it matters, but mine is Joshua." He didn't mention the preference of Josh - he didn't give a damn what allies called him, only friends needed to know what he liked better. And he wasn't necessarily expecting a name in return. Some people were funny like that.

"Eleanor," she replied, her smile growing that little bit less cold. They were on the same side. She could afford a little emotion to this man. But just a little. She had to keep herself in check.
"Yes." Eleanor chuckled coldly, her eyes glinting with a hint of amusement. "A place full of life for those of... our disposition is less than ideal. But it's good to come to a place like this without weak little Sunkern and Caterpie staining my world view." She took a look around, arms folded tight, before looking at Josh again and asking him a question.
"What made you join an organization such as this?" She smiled, eyebrow raised at Josh. "Don't get me wrong. You have the caliber. But I get this feeling that you don't want the caliber."

An interesting name, for sure, but would the woman be quite as intriguing? That was yet to be determined. He gave a quiet, icy laugh at her words, nodding slightly. "And yet they are all oblivious..." Sierra had not immediately cried wolf upon seeing him again. She had still acted as if he had her trust, which likely meant that she did not know what he'd done. He wondered, briefly, how different he would be treated if his allegiance became known. But the thought was quickly discarded.
After all, did it really matter? When he had reached his selfish goals, should the opinions of others really stand to affect him? He thought not. "Not one dirty look from a stranger since I departed from the plant. It's rather amusing, actually." And though he did not smile, the amusement kindled in deep-gray optics, hinting at the emotion without exposing it completely. What a useful thing, concealment was.
Didn't want it?
Joshua raised an eyebrow at her, a smirk creeping onto his thin lips. "Don't want it?" he echoed, the cold laugh ringing out once more. "Of course I want it." It wasn't about wanting it, anyways. He needed it, needed it like a drug addict needed cocaine, like a plant needed the rain, a child it's mother. It was no more of a luxury than food to him, now. What he wanted was the power that came with qualification. However vague his answer to Eleanor, the facts were all there. "You seem to desire it, as well." It was hardly a question, but certainly an open-ended statement.

OOC: Same here XD
Eleanor smiled thinly at Josh's statement. He really did want it. She could practically smell it. "Well well," she murmured. "It would seem I underestimated you. But it's nothing if you don't have a little fun with it."
At Josh's comment that she too wanted that ruthlessness, she chuckled and pushed a stray strand of crimson hair away from her eyes with a single finger. "Am I that obvious to you?" she asked with a small smile.
Continuing with a more stony expresion, she remarked; "It's not just that we can shape the world to be our idea of a better, stronger, greater place either, is it? It's that little pull of power that promises you the world." She said the last word in a barely audible whisper.
"It's that little shot of adrenaline," she muttered, tilting her head to one side. "That little addiction that tells us we can do what we want, when we want, however we want? Isn't that remarkable?" She smiled openly now, the mere thought making her heart soar. "We can be angels. Demons. Death, mercy, power. We embody these things. Not only as members of our little organization, but as human beings." Her smile became cold again. "We just need the ruthlessness to carry it out."

"Obvious? Perhaps a little... though that could be attributed to our similar positions." Or rather, desired positions. Being a Grunt in Team Death wasn't the most peachy, rewarding of things. In fact, it was downright irritating. But he'd put up with it if it meant being a part of the bigger picture. He'd always been a leader, not a follower. But with this... he was content to follow. The higher-ups were strong enough that he had little problem with submission.
God the way this woman talked! It set Joshua's heart racing slightly with excitement, the reminder of all the power they could have. However, he kept himself under control, and merely nodded rather than exposing the grin within himself. Oh, yes. That little piece of power they were offered was certainly an alluring thing. "I have it," he said softly, when she was finished. There was a hint of darkness in his voice that hadn't been there before. They were on equal playing grounds, he didn't have to hide his nature so much around one of their own. "You have it, too," he said, smirk broadening. It was his adaptation of her cold smile, the smirking was.
His personality was truly chameleon, shifting and adapting to whatever situation it needed to be in. If he needed to come off as calm, strong, and confident... he could do so. If he needed to appear like your average, kind citizen, he was capable. If he wanted you to believe he was your friend... well, it depended on how much you wanted to trust him. But his true personality was a dark and frightening thing. How selfish he was, how much he'd do for his own gain... it was a chained beast, but every now and then, something slipped out. "Not all of them do," he said after a moment. "The new guys, like us. Not all of them have it."

God, why did he come here today? Zane thought over and over. His Pokemon, Astro, had wandered into this wonder park and he lost sight of him. Why didn't that star shape thing listen when he said they were leaving?
"God, I swear when I get my hands on that thing..." Zane mumbled to himself. His dark grey hair was slightly in his hair as he looked around his star shape Pokemon.
Astro was clearly enjoying himself in a small pond. Sinking in he let himself go under water. His Trainer needed to learn how to relax like his, but no! Always work work work, battle here, battle there. God, he needed a break too!
Zane looked up. There he was, that little sneak. Zane stormed past two Trainers and quickly pulled out Astro's Pokeball. Returning the Staryu to his ball without any regret he snarled under his breath. God, Astro was a pain sometime.

Eleanor nodded in reply to Josh's remark about the other new recruits. "Some people just don't have that ruthlessness. The quality you need to be truly victorious. One victory means nothing if you don't gain anything from it."
She then looked around the park. "You need to put yourself first in this life. If you and I were in a fire and you died to save me, I would be anything but impressed. Save yourself first. You should be the most important thing in your mind."
As the Staryu splashed around and his Trainer snarled, Eleanor gave both a venomously cold look. "Unfortunately, we can't all behave with dignity," she murmured to Josh lightly, a mocking smile directed at Zane.

"Rest assured, I come before all others in my world." When in fact this was not entirely true. Having no real friends growing up, his friends meant the world to him. If they were to be in danger, he would surely risk himself to help them. But at the moment, he had no one who'd struck him as being that close, and so it was perhaps a temporary truth. For now, he was number one. Only his sister, and perhaps Sierra, were those he would consider helping above himself in certain situations. Eleanor, however, need not know this. He would have been a fool to expose a weakness to someone he scarcely knew.
Blinking at the newcomer, Joshua arched his brows coolly. "Clearly," he said, tone soft yet icy. Raising his voice so that the other trainer could hear, he called, "Have your Pokemon no respect for you, or do you allow them to run rampant?" There was an almost taunting, sneering edge to his tone. He was not trying to impress his ally, merely having a little fun. He had these moments of spite quite often, whether others were around or not. See, it was remarkably fun to make others feel irked sometimes. He could make a living out of it if it paid well. Joshua was very adept at getting on the nerves of others, when it fancied him.

Zane raised an eyebrow at the Trainer. He placed Astro's Pokeball away and just smirked to himself. He would not let someoen like this get on his nerves. "My Pokemon act on their own free will. It is my choose to have them act on their own will." Zane replied with a smile.
His eyes scanned the other one, a girl in the late teens. She seemed harmless enough, at least by looks.

"Pokemon are not animals to be let loose," Eleanor smiled with barely concealed scorn. "If you let your Pokemon loose, they will take control from you and become undignified. Primal. She said the last word with clear distaste for the boy in front of her.
Approaching him with a smile, she raised a hand and cupped her chin in it as she got closer to Zane. "The truly mighty must be leashed. Don't you know that?" She tilted her head to one side so that she was looking at Zane from a different angle. "You have to cut down the weeds of dissent before they grow out of control. Just a little friendly advice."

While he agreed that having your Pokemon respect you enough to listen was somewhat of a necessity, he did not really agree with her wording. However, they were getting along well enough, and so he did not challenge her beliefs. How she raised her Pokemon was business to her, and Joshua would take his own route. Eris was going to have to get used to listening to him, but he was not going to be too forceful. He loved the little cat, and wouldn't let his new path change that.
"So you want it running rampant?" he said coolly, giving an icy laugh. "My, oh my, that's something I haven't heard before. Most people have a little more dignity..." The snide, hard-edged insults were not really a necessity, Joshua was merely bored. It was not a good thing for him, boredom, the feeling frustrated him into doing stupid and spiteful things. "You certainly didn't seem as if you wanted it running loose when you first came in here," he remarked, gray eyes kindling with wicked amusement. "Or was that all an act? Didn't seem like it, not to me."
His thoughts drifted to his own Pokemon, wondering if they were managing alright. Certainly in pain, as he'd not had the chance to heal them, but...

Zane watched the teen circle him, studying his every feature. He raised an eyebrow at the other, ignoring the girl's advice. "It depends how they act." He replied with a stare. "If they act the way I want, fine by me. If they act like little kids and refuse my command, they'll learn in time. I earn the respect from my Pokemon, they lean how I think. In battle, we can we perfectly in sync then." That was Zane, always wanting to just earn the respect from Pokemon, he didn't care about if they wanted to battle or not. All he wanted was respect, so he could teach them how to use their power to the max. "My Staryu is fairy new to me, he sometimes thinks on his own part." Zane explained.

"My Pokemon are new to me too, but I already have them under control."] Eleanor smiled sweetly at Zane. "Why do you even bring your Pokemon here if you can't control them?"
Brushing her scarlet hair, dyed this month, back from her eyes, she continued. "This is supposed to be a place of peace. Where Pokemon and Trainers can enjoy the peace and quiet of a park."
Eleanor smirked mockingly as she looked at the Staryu. "Yet you bring your weak little Pokemon here so that it can run rampant and disturb the peace. Do us all a favor, kid and keep the starfish in its Pokeball in a place like this. Better still," Eleanor began to circle Zane as well. "Quit and go home. You talk about earning respect but your Staryu is weak. You don't stand a chance in a world like this."

If he chose to demand respect from his Pokemon in another way, so be it. Dale had no reason to interfere, nor did he particularly care to. He'd made a snide comment or two, yes, but it wasn't worth his time, keeping it up. It was clear enough that he wasn't interested, what with the lethargic expression of boredom etched onto usually stoic features, or the subtle rolling of his eyes at the boy as he said that the Pokemon had a mind of it's own. "Well of course, they aren't stupid," he scoffed.
He was far from thinking that his Pokemon were primitive beings. Eris liked to believe that she was smarter than Joshua himself sometimes, the quick-tempered little cat. When she wanted something, or when she was particularly furious with him for some reason or another, she didn't object to digging her claws into his shoulder or nipping him slightly. But she was still his partner. Eleanor seemed to view Pokemon in a different light, and so he chose to remain on the fence for this issue. She was an ally, and he didn't want to cause problems there, but he was no follower. He would never be one to meekly follow the words of someone else to avoid a conflict. He was his own person, Joshua Dale was independent, and no amount of alliances was going to change that.
And well, the park was free country. Technically, Eleanor couldn't order the other guy to leave. Joshua kept this smart-assed comment to himself. No doubt that would arise tensions.

Zane stared at the girl. "My Staryu came here by mistake. Like I would want to come here." He said coldly. "I have no need for peace or quiet." He walked a bit father away and stopped at the fountain. "Though we think we have control over our Pokémon they could turn on us at any second, unless you have a true bond with them." "Of course I have a bond with my Pokemon, silly boy," smiled Eleanor. "They respect me, and know that if they succeed, they'll be rewarded. They know if they fail, they will be punished."
Taking out a Pokeball, she released Sucrose, her Combee, who shivered in fear at the appearance of the Trainer who had so ruthlessly beaten and captured her in that malfunctioning Pokeball.
"Get onto my shoulder," demanded Eleanor sharply, and with a murmur of fear, the Combee landed on Eleanor's shoulder, not beating her wings for fear it would irritate her Trainer. The trademark smile often on a Combee's face was gone, replaced with a depressed, irremovable frown. Her eyes, once bright and cheerful, now remained cold and fearful.
\"Do you see? She won't turn on me because she fears me. She knows that if she defies me, I'll punish her." She lifted her hand to the Combee as though to hit her, and the little tri-faced honeycomb closed her eyes and winced, letting out a squeak of fear. "And that is motivation enough for her in battle," smiled Eleanor, lowering her hand.

In watching Eleanor's terrified Pokemon, Joshua could feel the beginnings of revulsion starting to creep into his mind. Sure, he'd caused the death of that Rattata, but looking back on it, there was definitely some regret. His Pokemon were his friends, as cheesy as that sounded, and he would never try to make them obey him out of fear. He threatened Eris mildly when she went out of line, but it was never with violence, more like "If you don't shut up and listen, I'm sticking you ball in your Pokeball." And since Eris respected him even a small amount, he could usually get her to listen with a little effort.
Deciding that he wasn't just going to act as if he agreed with Eleanor, he tossed Eris' Pokeball, and the navy-furred cat blinked in the sunlight as she was released. Casting a glance with raised brows at the other two, she chose to ignore them and instead jumped upon Joshua's shoulders, her favorite perch, and curled her spring-like tail around his neck, lazily batting it's fluffy tip. <Friends of yours, Joshua?> she wondered in a bored tone, blinking at him.
"Acquaintances," he corrected, shrugging, then turned his attention back to Zane and Eleanor. "I don't need fear to make them listen to me, because my Pokemon are my partners, not my tools." His tone had almost an edge to it, as if daring Eleanor to suggest him as weak. "Should I ever excel, I'd prefer to be amongst friends, rather than alone." And by friends, he meant his Pokemon.
