It was about time he actually got some damn training done in the routes. He had actually started to last year, and met a few quirky Pokemon, but his muse was lost in the emptiness of time. Soon though, something had sparked within him that made him want to get somewhere in this lonely world. Too often he was hearing about the success stories of Cheyenne, and he was left out of it. It was just annoying enough to get him back in the game. Now then, how to lure some wild Pokémon out? He thought ahead and brought some of the free cookies from the Verona Cafe and led a small trap in the route. All he did was put a cookie on a rock, and had Michi, his Chinchou, hide patiently with him in the bushes. Ok, yeah, it wasn't all that complicated, but it was a start. Who didn't like cookies? <...I'm hungry.> The Chinchou mumbled, eyeing the sweet sugar cookies with desire. Sure, he had lunch about an hour ago, but he was still hungry. Susumu only poked him in the side to try and quiet the water type down, very eager for a Pokémon Battle. ::chinchou::

It was a little past lunch hour on the route but those who didn't get to the 'front of the lines' for the berry bushes were often left with none to eat. This poor sap of a Sandshrew was just that poor sap. He had gone early to his favorite kind of berry's bush and had waited, however the warm sun caused him to doze off. When he had awoke none of the berries were left and it was well past time to make it to any of the other bushes that might have some to even acquire a crumb.
Instead the ground type started dragging his hind legs, tail flat on the ground in both hunger and defeat. He might as well just head to the caves where he lived and eat some of the abundant, bland, oh so highly nutritious cave mold. The wild pokemon shuddered at the thought.
It was then that he spotted something on a rock. What was that? ...A cookie? Not many cookies could be found on the routes unless they were in the hands of a human but here was one, in the open, unguarded. He was saved!
Rushing forward, the ground type snatched up the cookie and immediately stuffed it into his mouth so that if another pokemon had eyed it too they would be unable to snatch it from his paws. The cookie went down with ease and after smacking his lips a moment, a silly grin appeared on the ground pokemon's face in satisfaction.

His prey was standing there on the rock, a yellow back facing Susumu and Michi as they flinched in surprise at it's sudden arrival. It ate up all of the cookies left there on display, to Michi's despair as he tried to settle down his crying stomach. The Chinchou's weak fins brushed against his belly, trying to pound the organ so it wouldn't make a peep. Oblivious to this, Susumu already had his Pokedex out and scanned the curious creature. 'Sandshrew, huh? Says it's a ground type. Ken is too, but they don't look alike at all.' He thought, a bit amused at the strange similarities the two Pokemon had. Never mind that though, he had a plan to continue on with. Motioning over to Michi to get his attention, he pointed at the Sandshrew. "Alright, Michi! Bubble!" He cried, popping out of the bushes with several leaves and twigs sticking in his hair. His Chinchou happily bounced out of the bushes, feeling a bit itchy as he left, and sent a spiral of pretty bubbles at the Sandshrew. That oughta teach it for...being gullible! Yeah! That sounded right! ::chinchou:: |Level 5|

The Sandshrew had no idea that the bubble was coming. At the sight of the boy and his pokemon, the ground type was frozen in shock, the bubbles had no trouble hitting the yellow pokemon's body. The attack hurt horribly! Maybe because ground types were weak to water? Hmm.
The ground type shook his head, staring angrily at the duo. They had come to take the cookies! That was it! And because he ate them and they didn't get any they were angry! Yes, this was what was happening. They wanted revenge for his obvious quicker speed and perception.
Turning towards the Chinchou, the ground type rolled into a ball as a defense curl before rolling towards the water type, lashing out with a scratch attack. Well he wasn't going to go down without a fight, nope nope nope.
::sandshrew:: used defense curl and scratch
Just at that moment, a Pidgey flew over in the sky. Upon seeing the human, it dropped a package from the sky. Might want to catch that.

<Why are you just sitting there?> The Chinchou asked once the Sandshrew rather oddly curled up into a ball after it was hurt by the Bubble attack. Not understanding it's strange body motions, he went to investigate the strange phenomena with a gentle prodding of his fin. Unfortunately, that was the moment when the Sandshrew decided to strike, and let loose his claws of fury across Michi's soft body. Squealing in pain, the Chinchou hopped backwards with his light orbs glowing furiously. Ok, he knew that he deserved that, but he had to get stronger. He wasn't about to let that stupid Ken get all of Susumu's attention! "A-AH! My stuff!" Susumu cried, rushing out of the bushes to catch the stuff. In an awkward moment of staring up at the sun, trying to see where the merchandise was going to land, he ended up being a little bit off. By a little bit, it really was just that, as it ended up smacking him in the face and sending him down with a crash. Um. Ow? At least nothing in the bag made a cracking sound. With Michi, however, he couldn't help but stop but direct his attention to the hilarious moment going on behind him. Ok...that wasn't one of Susumu's best hits, but it appeared that the trainer wasn't going to be giving any orders for a while. Turning back to the Sandshrew, not knowing that Bubble was clearly the superior move here, used a Supersonic just to mix it up. ::chinchou:: |Level 5|

Sandshrew blinked as the odd, high pitched whine scrambled his thoughts, and he stumbled around, dazed, not sure about what to do next. He had meant to Scratch the Chinchou, right? Or was it a Defense Curl. Urgh, what a pain... His new confusion got the better of him, and he raised his claw to scratch Michi, only to claw his own face. Howling in pain as he hopped around, clutching his scratched face, it was almost a comedic sight to see the poor Ground Type leaping around, hoping that the movement would erase the brand new pain in his face. ::sandshrew::

Feeling proud about himself for getting this far in the battle, the Chinchou flapped his fins about as if he was doing a little victory jig. Well sure, who didn't dance when they did something good? The Sandshrew attacked itself, so funny, he couldn't help but giggle childishly at his actions. That was fine, as long as he kept attacking. Seeing that Bubble was his only offensive move, he shot out another flurry of bubbles at the Sandshrew. ::chinchou:: |Level 5| Susumu was slowly recovering from the painful blow to his face, and with a subdued groan, the boy sat upright. The bag slid down into his lap, and while he was rubbing his face wounds, his attention was quickly nabbed by the strange bag in his lap. Was this what he had ordered not too long ago in the city? He slowly worked his way through the damn packaging, wondering why they needed to freaking staple the thing shut. God damn the packaging companies! He finally tore a small opening in the bag after nearly cutting his own fingers off, and with a curious, dumbfounded expression he pulled out several discs. They looked exactly like CDs, but smaller. How odd. He put them into his own traveling bag, lest he drop them.

Sandshrew was displeased that he had just hit himself in the face, and even MORE displeased that a flurry of bubbles soon followed after. With his eyes and face stinging and the bubbles not helping matters, the sudden clarity of anger set him free from his previous confusion. Those had been HIS cookies, and he deserved to eat them without being hurt by that man on him clouds dropped packages, and that blue fish with long antennae. Rolling up into a ball again, he carried himself over to the Chinchou and bared his claws, before trying to Scratch his face. ::sandshrew:: Sandshrew used Scratch. Sandshrew is weakened. [[Eh. Might as well waste some Pokeballs.]] Michi cried out when the Scratch nailed him once more on the face, suddenly realizing that he didn't like physical attacks like that. They hurt him pretty bad, because when he did a play battle with Maasaki, his Ember attacks hardly hurt him. Though the Vulpix did say that he was going easy on him, so maybe that had something to do with it. <You seem a bit too upset for a battle.> Michi noticed, seeing the Sandshrew get pretty passionate during the battle. It was as if he was defending something, though he couldn't understand what for the life of him. "Hang on Michi. Don't waste your energy, I want to try something." Seeing that he bought a bunch of Pokeballs earlier, he might as well try using some of them. You were supposed to catch a Pokémon when it was as weak as possible, but the Sandshrew looked kind of weak. It was a shame that it wasn't confused anymore, but they could always try that again later. Taking out a shiny red Pokeball, fresh from his Starter Pack, he winked at the Chinchou to take a step back. Michi obeyed, understanding what was about to happen. "Pokeball, go!" He cried, his hands a bit shaky from saying such a popular catch phrase. Oh boy, he felt so cool saying that. Like an actual trainer, the ones on the tv shows, ya know? He threw the Pokeball at the Sandshrew, which looked to be on target. With any luck, it would hit it and suck it in. Minus One Pokeball |Level 5 -Not Attacking-|

Both Michi and Susumu looked in surprise when the Sandshrew was caught, while Michi hardly received a Scratch. Actually, scratch that, there were two Scratch marks on the fish's side, but he was doing really well for his first Wild Pokémon battle. The fish was floating about quite happily as the sun's beams shone on him, gently caressing his body. He was quite happy being a fish out of water, since he had both gills and lungs, like most water Pokémon. "So...um. wow. I'll have to think of a name then." Susumu didn't even know the little thing's gender, nor did he want to check. Figuring that he had plenty of time to look it up later, he shrugged and slipped the Pokeball in his pocket. Now, time for some moves. He took out Ken's Pokeball and let him out, where he appeared in a burst of light. <Aloha, and hola! And all that jazz!> He joked as he came out, cracking his rocky knuckles while Michi wandered near him. The two knew each other enough to be at ease with the other, despite the type differences. "So I have these things called TMs. Let's see how they work." Susumu's voice trailed off as he took out the three TMs he bought earlier; two for Michi, and one for Ken. As he took one disc out, he pointed it at the Geodude. It radiated with some kind of strange power before the rock type absorbed it, completely startled by the phenomena. Realizing how they worked, he pointed the other two TMs at Michi and the same thing happened. <I-I don't fully get what that was, but I feel smarter.> Ken gasped, examining his hands as the strange power flowed through his body. <Yeah...doubt it.> Michi chuckled before hiding behind Susumu playfully, sticking out his tongue while the Geodude whined about how 'unfair' he was being. ::geodude:: |Level 6| + |Level 6|

A Starly spotted some berries sitting in a small tree. It had barely grown, and the Oran Berries were small, yet full of juice. The Starly was young, approaching his first winter, and he soared down to the tree and observed the dark blue, unripened berries before picking one off the tree. Unripened, but they were delicious. He chirruped in delight as the bitter, juicy flesh filled his stomach. How positively delightful to taste an Oran Berry, albeit not fully ripened. He was so enamored with these berries that he didn't even hear Susumu approach. ::starly::

"Ah, that's a pretty bird." Susumu commented as he took out his Pokedex, knowing that it was a Starly, but still wanted to learn more about it. Apparently they got pretty big if you trained them enough, but he wasn't all that keen about having a bird on his team. Not when he already had so many Pokemon to tend to, but if he caught it, it would be perfectly safe in the PC. <Oy! Birdie! Romeo with the berry Juliet! Yooo-hooo!> Ken started shouting at the Starly from below the base of the tree, seeing that it was impossible for him to actually climb it. He was thinking the same thing as Susumu though, and was itching to battle with his new found strength. "You want to battle it, huh? Guess you're eager for anything, aren't ya Ken? Hey Starly, care to battle?" He asked, looking up at the wild Pokemon in the tree. If it wasn't in a battling mood, then that was fine with him. There were other Pokemon around here that were probably more interesting. Michi floated carelessly behind him, not paying much attention to the world around him. ::geodude:: |Level 6|

A battle? This particular Starly wasn't used to fighting others. But still, he assumed that if he was going to be on his own from now on, he needed to get used to defending himself instead of relying on his father and mother. He flapped his wings as he savoured the last lingering taste of the devoured Oran Berry, before landing on the soft, dew filled grass, cooing inquisitively at the Geodude, before nodding in agreement. >O-OK< ::starly::

"Ah, sweet. Ken, maybe if you shut up a little, you wouldn't scare the poor thing so much." He frowned at his Geodude for acting so boisterous, but there wasn't much he could do. It was his personality, and that wasn't something that was meant to be changed. Plus, having a team of mopey emos wasn't on his to do list. The Geodude flinched at Susumu's comment, and resisted the urge to punch the ground, which he usually did to relieve stress. He had to look cool in front of Michi, the newest team member, right? <Just watch. Good ol' Ken will show you how it's done.> He laughed, occasionally peeking over in the Chinchou's direction to see if he was watching. The Geodude nearly face palmed when he saw the fishie wandering off into some bushes, thinking that there was something edible within them. What the heck?! "You look pretty nervous, so how about we warm up first? Tackle it, Ken." Susumu commented when he noticed the Starly's hesitant reaction. It seemed pretty rash to go off and use their strongest move on the first turn anyways, so this seemed like a good plan. The Geodude grumbled something about 'not being liked enough' before barreling ahead with a Tackle attack. ::geodude:: ::chinchou:: |Level 6| + |Level 6| Attacking / Exploring for Food

The Starly was frozen in terror, and the Tackle came much too quickly for him to avoid. With a chirrup of pain, he was thrown back, hitting the ground with a small bump. He pushed himself to his feet, wiping the dirt and dust off his feathery face with both wings, before getting into battle position. A cooing growl emerged from his throat as he flapped his wings, trying to intimidate the Geodude. The adrenaline of his first battle surged through him, and it actually felt quite good, much to his surprise. His growl completed, he took flight and dived at the geodude in a Tackle attack, hoping his body could do some damage to the Geodude's rocky form. ::starly:: Starly used Growl and Tackle.

<Agh. It's so...cute.> The Geodude blushed a little, embarrassed that he had even admitted that out loud. It was true that the Starly was trying to intimidate him, but it ended up looking so small and adorable. Like, kitten adorable, with the big chibi eyes. Yes, most of that was just imagined in his head, but it was enough to lower his attack. Maybe he'd go easy on the little runt. It was already moving in for its first strike, and he raised his arms up defensively to prepare for the move. "Better buckle up, Ken. Defense Curl." Susumu advised, although he wasn't too worried about the Tackle hurting the rock type. Listening to the command, the Geodude tucked his head under his arms as a thin glaze coated his body, boosting his defenses as the Starly Tackled him. Not even budging from the move, he looked back up with a pained chuckle. Yeah, just laugh it off, he thought. "Tackle it again, let's go!" Susumu ordered, still feeling like they shouldn't move on to the stronger moves just yet. Ken was getting started too! The Geodude grinned wildly as he charged towards the Starly, a bit overconfident in this battle. Michi humbly returned to Susumu's side, not finding anything of interest in the bushes. |Level 6|

Starly fluttered desperately out of the way with a terrified chirp. Ow! His little orange beak was hurting quite badly from using that Tackle attack on such a tough opponent. Shaking his head to clear the daze, he let out another cheeping Growl to try to lower the Geodude's attack. That done, he began to soar towards Ken, eyes bright as his speed increased to levels he didn't even know he was capable of. With an attempt at a battle cry that turned ito more of a high pitched chirrup, the young Starly dived down in an attempt to break through the Geodude's defenses. ::starly::

With his attack power dropping even more, which made it halved altogether, Susumu figured that those Tackle attacks weren't going to be doing a lot of damage. If they wanted to take out the Starly before his attack got any lower, they would have to bring out the big guns. By guns, he was thinking along the lines of pure muscle. Both trainer and Pokemon's pairs of eyes tracked the Starly's movements as best as they could, but it was becoming increasingly difficult with that sudden boost of speed. It looked strong. Even with Ken's high defense, it didn't look good. Ken lifted up his fists to protect his weaker head, getting pushed back by the Starly's Quick Attack. With a low grunt, the Geodude tried to shove the bird off of him and hopped to the side, just in case the little one thought it could push him any farther. "Mega Punch." Susumu's eyebrows furrowed in concentration, trying to detect how much damage the Geodude was taking. If they paced themselves, he could get out of the battle with hardly a scratch on him. As a last resort, he could always use one of his handy dandy potions. But wasn't that cheating? Either way, Ken went with his trainer's plan and charged boldly ahead with a powerful Mega Punch (which is a normal type move). ::geodude:: |Level 6| Mega Punch

::starly:: Pkmn encounter ! The avian's body was starting to become sore from impacting the hard, bulky hide of his stony opponent, but he felt like he was getting the hang of this battle. Having anticipated another tackle, the bird prepared to hop to the side in an evasive maneuver.
However, it happened contrary to the Starly's plan; rather than Tackle him, the mobile rock instead thrust his fist into his weathery side. The powerful impact sent the winged pokemon flying through the air quite a distance before he landed with a dull thud against the hard earth. Wincing with pain from the injured side he now had, which may have been coupled with internal bleeding, the avian pushed himself up and stood once more.
Trying not to pay too much attention to his wounds, the bird took flight and swiftly directed his body toward the Geodude, intent on another Quick Attack against this stone-cold fiend.
Starly used Quick Attack.
