How large was this stupid place? Large enough to piss Kenna off. She wanted -- no, NEEDED -- to get to the next town, then find someone she could either sell or trade this stupid leafy turtle to. And then get a real partner. For some reason, in all her travels over the past year or so, she’d never thought of getting another Pokémon. Only recently had the desire to start up again really taken root in her heart. The inspiration? Seeing a particularly adorable Pokémon she hadn’t seen before. The image was clear in her mind, but the name… she hadn’t learned. If only she could get one of those. In the next town. She would search. If she saw one on route, great, but how would she get it? Just run up to it and force it inside a pathetic Level One Pokeball? That would work splendidly. No. She’d get this one a different way. The fun way.
A pout firmly stuck on her round, childish face, Kenna walked pushed her way through the tall grasses. Somehow, she’d stepped off the path and gotten completely surrounded in this thicket. If only she could find someone to guide her out of here. Or a map. Or a Pokémon. She could offer it food, healing, protection, or just a game. Pokémon liked games, right? She didn’t care. She just wanted out of here. Get to the town without looking at the Turtwig. Get to town. Get to town. Town. Town…
As she walked, what else she could do in a new city began drifting through her imagination. She could finally get some new clothing. And maybe a few trinkets to experiment with! She’d long since run out of batteries and the like. A few extras to shove in her bag would be splendid. And disposable cameras. Man, those things were great for miscellaneous parts. And the Pokémon. She could check the Pokémon Center, or any stores. See what people around here had. What the stock in the stores was. Inventory, if you will.
Trying to put her mind off of the fact that she was stuck in the middle of nowhere with an ugly pile of twigs, Kenna managed to put a happy smile on her face at the thought of all that the next town would provide. A second beginning, a second game. Round two. And maybe this first game, the game that she was currently losing, would be fun, too. You could learn from failure, after all.

A young Sunkern was hopping along the path. After she was finally out of her parent's tutelage she was able to explore this 'parlous world' as her friends called it. Lovely day it was, a sun shining from above and the breeze quite nice. Best of all no Trainers in sight! She had no worries of being attacked what so ever! She hopped a bit father until her nightmare came true, she came across a Trainer! <EPP!> She yelled in fright. Looking around quickly for a hidding spot she ducked into the bushes, she hoped that that Trianer didn't see her!

Even a blind goat would have realized that there was a Sunkern -- or something, at least -- up ahead. How in the world was such a timid creature still alive if it was so bad at hiding? Kenna hadn't the foggiest idea. However, she'd seen the small individual hop into its hiding place, and was pleased enough by its cute appearance to not feel the need to bother it. Well, bother in a negative way. She wanted help; maybe the Sunkern would provide some?
"Excuse me? Little Sunkern? I really need some help." Kenna was a stubborn girl, yes, but even she knew when to admit defeat. She could hardly see over this grass, let alone be able to see the skyline of a city. The Sunkern probably wouldn't be much help, but it was something.

>U-um... Help?< Sunkern's leaves quivered as she poked her head out of her makeshift hiding place, not quite ready to expose her fragile body to the Trainer in case she didn't mean well. But all the same, she seemed genuine enough. If she hadn't, Sunkern would have been halfway along the route by now, bouncing as fast as her legless body could carry her. >H-how can I help?< she stammered. ::sunkern::

So far so good; the cute little Pokemon was not bouncing away, in any case. Maybe it would be able to give accurate directions out of here? Though, Kenna realized, odds were that it hardly knew where the path was, let alone the next town. Still, it didn't hurt to ask. If only there was a flying-type around. Kenna could offer to feed it he Sunkern in exchange for aid. But the Sunkern was cute, and hadn't done anything stupid. Not yet.
"Do you know where the next town is? Or even the path that most humans walk down?" Kenna asked, hoping that the timid creature would at least guide her out of these God-forsaken tall grasses.

The Sunkern breathed in deeply. Trying to be brave like her friends would say, their raillery of her weakness had gotten her thinking of exploring the world...now she wished she hadn't. At the Trainer's question she wondered herself, which way did you go? <Well, I-I think I-I've seen Trainers go to the left....or was it the right...or was it up?> The Sunkern tilted her head at the thought, she didn't really know herself!

Well, that certainly was the best advice Kenna had heard in days. Weeks, even. Exasperated, the small woman stared at the Sunkern for a moment, unable to hide her annoyance. The irritation passed visually, and she closed her eyes and smiled at the Pokemon. "Okay, thanks!" she said, apparently quite pleased with the information provided, and she moved on. The Sunkern was stupid, and would be punished sooner or later. She didn't have time for this.
From her pocket, she felt a small zap, heard a small buzzing noise. Reaching in, she pulled out the electrical device. Her Pokedex was acting up? Strange. Stupid thing must be broken. She'd look at it once she got out of this place and into town.
What seemed like hours later, though in reality was probably no more than ten or twenty minutes, Kenna pushed her way out of the tall grasses and stumbled upon what appeared to be a trail. What way she needed to head was another matter, though; the last thing she wanted was to end up back at the Ranger Station.

The Sunkern was indeed punished, picked up by a Spearow and slowly devoured, squeals echoing down the route as she was consumed. ____________________________ What looked like three squares of honeycomb fluttered down the route, her wings buzzing as she searched for some flowers to take nectar from. After all, it was a Combee's nature to sup from flowers, abosrbing the sweet nectar to stay strong and sustain her Queen. Though she would have liked to have taken it all for herself. One day, she would be a Vespiquen, and the most fair and beautiful Queen of Combees Route One had ever seen. She was so caught up in the daydream, she barely noticed the shockwave from afar, or the Trainer's approach. ::combee::

Ah, up ahead! Another Pokemon... a Combee, Kenna realized. A very cute Pokemon, she was pleased to see, though she wasn't fond enough of its evolved form to even consider attempting to catch it. Besides -- how would she capture the creature? By releasing the monstrosity given to her at the Ranger Station? She'd pass on that. Still, maybe she could get better directions from the bee-like Pokemon. Surely, as it could fly, it would see where Trainers were heading and thus guide Kenna to her destination. And in return...
"Excuse me, Combee?" Kenna approached the hovering bug-type, smiling hesitantly. "I know where a lot of really pretty flowers are. I'll tell you where they are if you show me what direction the city is in?" Kenna had no clue where there were any flowers along this route; all she'd seen was grass. The Pokemon didn't know that.

Combee gave a start of surprise when she heard someone speak to her, not having expected any sort of company as she went about with the diligence of someone with very important daily duties. She was actually humming to herself as she collected the honey, and the sound cut off abruptly in the event of her surprise. Now that she was no longer distracted, she could feel a sort of a static in the air, and it unnerved her a little. What was all this about?
Ohh, pretty flowers?
Completely forgetting her worry about the feel of the air, she buzzed happily and did a little loop in the air. <Oooh, I love pretty flowers!> she said joyfully, practically zooming around in circles. <The city is thataway!> She did another spin, then bolted off in a certain direction to indicate the path to the city before buzzing back toward the trainer. <Where are the flowers?>

In all honesty, Kenna could not understand Pokespeech. She found that their words were nothing more than squeaks or mumbles, generally of the name of their species. Understanding meaning through body language, however, was something she was used to doing. The Combee’s excitement at hearing about flowers, for instance, and its buzzing over in a particular direction before watching her eagerly was all she needed to understand. ’Town is that way, where are the flowers?’ It was easy.
”Thanks!” Kenna said, smiling widely. ”The flowers are back that way, a really pretty bunch of orange and red ones.” Turning around, she pointed to the direction she’d come from through the thicket. There may be flowers in that mess of grasses, though none that she’d noticed. It would take the Combee quite some time to realize that she’d been misguided. Or maybe it would think she’d simply gone the wrong direction. She didn’t care either way. It would be amusing for the bee to realize she’d been tricked, though.
Smiling happily, the petit teenager began walking briskly down the path towards the city. All the while, her eyes skimmed the horizon for a sign of the buildings.
ooc|| I'll allow maybe one more encounter before she gets to the city. I don't want her to just hop on over there, after all, since the route is probably pretty large. [/size]

The day was rather nice it seemed. I mean, all sorts of plant pokemon were out and about so why would they be out on a bad day? See the logic?
This pokemon wanted to enjoy the day too. It's tan fur shined warmly, kept clean with constant care and devotion. The cat lounged lazily in the sun on a warm rock. The wind seemed to have died down quite a bit and it made the weather quite pleasant.

Quite eager to get to town to really begin her adventure, Kenna was ready to ignore any other distraction she passed. Except, perhaps, a lounging Meowth. Her eyes drifted to the large boulder at the side of the path, then back in front of her, then snapped back to the top of the rock. Laying on top was perhaps one of the cutest things she’d seen in days. ”Meowth!” she squeaked, putting her hands up to her mouth in excitement. And she was a beauty, glistening there in the sun like that! Maybe she could at least pet the creature…
And in an instant, Kenna became the small child she often portrayed, walking shyly up to the lounging feline. She was more than well aware of the fact that the Pokémon could easily scratch her face up, but the risk was worth it in her mind. Inching up to the rock slowly, so as not to startle the cat into running away, she reached out with a hand to give the Meowth a pat.

Meowth looked up at Kenna. She stretched, her back rising and falling in a matter of a few seconds. With an angry glint in her eye, she stepped backwards, until she was about to fall of the rock. <No.> She mewed, lettig out a hiss. <Why wake me up?> Meowth unsheathed her claws, though not striking yet. <I can easily fight you.> She sheathed her claws for the moment, ready to unsheath them again if need be.

Kenna withdrew her outstretched hand, pouting a bit at the Meowth’s negative response to her approach. It was to be expected, the girl realized, tucking a strand of her red hair behind an ear. But still altogether disappointing. Maybe it could be soothed into allowing a small pat on the head? It really would make her day a lot better, especially after dealing with so many bothersome Pokemon along the route.
”It’s okay, Meowth, I don’t wanna hurt you,” Kenna said, inching forward again, watching the feline Pokemon with longing in her big blue eyes. Its fur looked so beautiful, and it was so adorable! She didn’t really want to battle the thing, not with Turtwig. She’d much rather give it a cuddle. Maybe it would follow her if it liked her? The thought made her happy, but given the angry gleam in the cat-Pokemon’s eyes… she didn’t see that happening. ”You’re so pretty,” she added, hoping to get on the creature’s good side. Just one pat? Or even a poke on the nose? She raised her hand again, reaching out to the Meowth.

The Meowth let out another wary hiss as she sized up the trainer, wondering what Kenna could possibly be playing at. She wasn't the type to trust very easily, you had to be careful if you were a wild Pokemon, and so the idea that this trainer had good intentions was easily lost on the temperamental feline. She didn't believe that Kenna didn't want to hurt her. Well, alright, maybe causing harm wasn't her intentions, but there were plenty of other ways that you could get on Meowth's bad side.
<Oh, perhaps not,> she hissed lightly in response, arching her back and fluffing out her gorgeous fur indignantly. <But if you think I'll believe you don't want to update that little electronic thing of yours, you're wrong!> She'd actually been caught once with the sole purpose of being added to some electronic database. The trainer had beat her up with strong Pokemon, caught her, then released her in a town full of scary electric Pokemon that were of a higher level. That had been a shocking experience, no pun intended. It had taken her quite some time to find her way back here. And she didn't really want to do it again.
<Well of course I'm pretty,> the Meowth purred, flicking her tail. Compliments were definitely a good way to go, if you wanted to earn her trust. Perhaps if Kenna tried a little harder...

Not letting her eager smile waver, Kenna hesitated as she followed the Meowth’s eyes. Her Pokedex…? There was recognition, distaste even, in the feline’s gaze. So she’d interacted with trainers before. And they didn’t respect her. Poor kitty. But that didn’t make Kenna’s job easier. Rather, more difficult. More fun. The reward was always greater when there was a battle fought. In this case, the reward was petting an adorable Pokemon. Hey, Kenna wasn’t always picky. Not always, at least.
However, seeing that the Pokemon responded positively to her praise, Kenna knew that she had gotten closer to the finish line. Cats were, generally, vain creatures. She was lucky that this one was no different. ”Your fur looks just so soft,” Kenna said, pushing a bit closer. ”You must take really good care of it.” She paused, watching the Meowth, judging its response. ”May I?” she asked, offering her hand for the Pokemon to sniff -- or bite, should she deem that the appropriate response. With her experience -- she had more than she’d care to admit -- of attempting to pet or capture cute creatures, showing that you’re willing to be hurt was often quite effective when gaining trust. And if she got a bite? So what. Pain was temporary. She was used to it.

The Meowth narrowed her eyes at the Trainer's hand. Hissing a bit she backed up. <Only those who show their power to me are allowed to touch.> But at the complement she licked her paw and brushed it over her ear. <Well of course a beautiful Pokemon like me has to keep herself clean.> She purred.

The Meowth certainly was getting confused, Kenna could tell. She was clearly on the defensive, but still enjoyed the praise. If she could just go a bit further with her compliments, she could possibly be rewarded. Battling, a show of power, was the last thing on her mind right now. All the had was a Turtwig. A weak, ugly Turtwig. She wasn't going to be seen with it, even if it meant losing the Meowth's attentions.
"And such a shiny coin, too!" Kenna said, hardly having to make such compliments up. The coin was quite stunning for a wild Meowth. "Gosh, whatever trainer didn't keep you made a huge mistake," she continued longingly, recalling the Meowth's aversion to the Pokedex. Pausing, she looked at the Meowth longingly. "Just one pet, then I'll leave you alone if you want me to? You're just so pretty." Kenna kept her hand where it was for the Meowth to sniff, bat away, bite, or ignore.

- <One little pet? Well, I suppose I don't mind. You don't smell of the wild very much. A clean smell.> The Meowth noted, having been slightly worried that this human might have had fleas coating her body, something that she had been warned about in the cities. Even in this cold, bitter weather, those little parasites could survive, and boy were they desperate.
- She nodded her consent to the trainer, but only one little pet, like she offered. With a lowered head, and a constant eye on where the girl was putting those hands of hers, she allowed herself to be stroked. Even if she was a wild thing, sometimes the sensation of being rubbed was a soothing one.
- Plus, she had been awfully stressed recently. It might keep her mind off of more unpleasant things that were going on around her home. Her tail swayed from side to side, almost as if it had a mind of its own. She couldn't help but look at it with interest, almost wanting to pounce on it.
