Managing to avoid this last attempted attack, Rio was prepared to launch yet another bite when Kenna interrupted her. "Wait." The feline stopped in an instant, having seen the withdrawing of the Pokeball from her bag, and simply stalked around the Natu. Kenna was keen to try out the defective Pokeballs. See if they were truly broken. To test this, first, she needed a subject still standing, as her own Rio had been. With a fluid, skilled flick of her wrist, she sent the sphere flying at the psychic bird.

Natu Pokeball Used
As the Pokeball sucked in the small Natu, she found herself both surprised and distraught about what was going on. What was this thing and why was it trying to eat her? She flapped her wings in an attempt to avoid its absorbing red light, but it swiftly sucked her in like a mouse trap. She pecked and shouted from within the sphere, clearly not satisfied with how this turned out, but in the end, she found herself stuck.
Restrained. At least with a full belly, which she was grateful for, but she had wished to at least settle the battle with her pride as a Pokemon. Even if the Meowth was her natural predator, she had still accepted their challenge. It seemed wrong, but she wasn't the type to voice it. As the Pokeball let out its signature 'ping', she decided to wallow in self-pity until she felt ready to come back out.
You Get:
::natu:: Natu Level: 7.5 Gender: Female Abilities: Synchronize + Early Bird Attacks: Peck, Leer, Night Shade Personality: Modest. Often lost in thought.

Pleased with the capture, Kenna wandered over and picked up the Pokeball, examining it. It hadn't sparked at all. So maybe the effects varied? Shrugging, she pocketed the Pokeball containing her experimental capture. "Good job, Rio," she said, patting the feline on the head.
<It was nothing.> Purring, Rio rubbed against her trainer, then hopped up into her arms. <Where to, next?> she asked, looking up the path eagerly.
"To trade this thing, first of all. So we'll have to backtrack. Then off to the city. Sound good?"
<Anything, so long as you carry me?>
Kenna laughed as her Meowth snuggled up in her arms, quite obviously not moving. "Of course."
---
Now that she was on the pathway, finding her way to and from the laboratory was an easy task, and in almost no time at all she found herself wandering back down the pathway with a new Surskit and Zangoose in hand. Rio had returned to her Pokeball in order to properly clean her fur, so Kenna was wandering the path alone, glancing around with only slight interest in her surroundings. She had three Pokemon, now, all of which met her standards of approval. Finding more was not entirely necessary, save for tools against which to battle.
Maybe she would test out her two new partners, next. It would be fun to see how the two worked out with her. A smile on her face, she skipped along the trail. Overhead, the sky was growing dark. It would be nightfall, soon.

| [atrb=background,http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss283/amostprofoundseduction/elebg2.png][atrb=border,0,true] Somewhere nearby, a Cacnea was going about his daily training schedule. Not only did his love for exercise keep him strong and fit, but it help to fend off winter's coming chill, as well. Determined to one day evolve into a powerful Cacturn that could dominate the route, he stuck to this rigorous schedule daily, fists pounding against the bark of the tree that had become his current opponent. He kept this up until an angry Taillow trying for sleep threatened him, at which time he reluctantly slunk off to a different part of the area. Really, it was a matter of fortitude that kept the bird from flapping down and pecking him into nothingness.
Emulating a jogger in his speed, he pounded down the main path with determination, the rhythm cheering him up almost instantly. Despite being obsessed with his weight, the fellow could be quiet friendly if the situation called for it, and so he did not save a glare for Kenna and her team. In fact, the glance he shot the trainer was merely curious, and he slowed down as he got closer.
<Hello there, miss,> he said with a grin. <Enjoying the day?>

Ah, and here was a fine Pokémon upon which to practice. How convenient. Kenna looked at the smile on the strange cactus's face and grinned back. Without a word, she tossed the Pokeball containing her new Zangoose. The creature emerged and looked around, curious. He met the eyes of his trainer, but quickly averted them, shy to meet her eyes for the first time. Instead, he rubbed the back of his neck with a heavily clawed paw.
"Quick attack, if you please?"
The Zangoose looked at his trainer, surprised by the sudden -- yet polite -- request to attack the seemingly friendly Pokémon in front of him. Still, he wasn't going to argue at the moment. Instead, he shot out towards the cactus, ready to strike at lightning speed.
Used Quick Attack.

<Hey! Now just wait a ACK!> The Cacnea was thrown into a tree. Getting up dizzy headed he shook himself. <What was that for? Did I say something wrong?> He said. He held up his arms and they started to glow purple, then she shot a Poison Sting towards the Pokemon. <Take this!> He said, he was protecting himself no matter what.

Kenna smiled at the Cacnea, but said nothing. This was just a game, seeing how her new Pokémon performed. No need for more words than necessary.
The Zangoose, on the other hand, was a bit more embarrassed about his orders. <Sorry,> he murmured to the creature as it lunged at him. He was not keen on being poisoned, however, and he managed to push the attack to the side, protected from the spikes by his thick fur.
"Leer, then another Quick Attack, Zangoose."
Glowering at the Cacnea, he shot out at the spiky creature yet again.
Used Leer, then Quick Attack.

<EHH!> The Leer surely scared Cacnea before he was hit again. He tumbled backwards and groaned. This wasn't his day now was it? Being attacked for no reaso, how rude! He got up and shook himself. The Tainer refused to say anything which made things worse. <Taaaaake this!> He yelled, shooting another barrage of spikes at the Pokemon. He wasn't going to be a push-over like normal.

Unfortunately for the as-of-yet unnamed Zangoose, this next attack struck him squarely in the chest. He felt the poison from the spines seep into the shallow wound, and he grimaced as it began to course through his blood. The pain was not enough to weaken him severely, not yet, but it was incredibly uncomfortable. Batting the creature away, he used his claws in an attempt to scratch it, uncaring for the moment that his trainer had given no verbal command. This thing had poisoned him. He did not want to battle, but... it had hurt him more than necessary.
Kenna frowned as the creature attacked without being given a command, but did not dwell on the matter. It was hurt, now. Its staggering form indicated poison, as well. That was not good. Did she even have an antidote, for after the battle's end? She swung her bag around, ready to check.

Well the Posion Sting did its job. Then, the claws came into this skin. The pain making him yell he backed up. He shook his head. That was a stong Pokemon for sure, he wasnt going to be beaten to easily! He wasn't going down without a fight! He shot another barrage of spikes at the Zagoose.

This attack struck, for sure, but the poison did not sink in enough to add to that already coursing through the Zangoose's veins. Honestly, he hardly felt this attack. The white creature looked to his trainer, sheepish expression clear even through the pained look in his eyes. He had acted without orders. Was that bad? Not seeing any anger in the human's bright blue eyes, however, he relaxed slightly.
Kenna was, indeed, slightly angry beneath her calm exterior. The only healing items she had were those from her beginner's kit from the Ranger Station. Two potions. No antidotes. She'd have to hurry this battle up, then get to a Pokemon Center as soon as possible to heal him up. The Zangoose was not nearly as cute as her Rio or Asteria, but his cool speed and strength, mingled with the creature's apparent modesty, appealed to the young woman. Having the Pokemon faint was not good. "Keep glaring, then go in for another Scratch," Kenna called out, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
Nodding, he turned to the Cacnea and narrowed his eyes before going in for another scratch. Hopefully its lowered defense would help him win this battle.

Cacnea (Defense -2) Dodges Scratch Uses Leer + Poison Sting ooc: Probably a bad time to say this, but Immunity is a reference to Zangoose's rivalry with Seviper. It's immune to poison.
<Tut tut. If you want to battle properly, you need to use tricks. Like this!> The Cacnea waggled his arm in the air like a finger, as if scolding the Zangoose for being so bold and straight forward with him. He was a self-trained Pokemon, a tough guy, even if this freaking beast was probably stronger than him, he was new with teamwork with his trainer. It was easy to see by the way they interacted.
The Cacnea twirled on his one leg, spinning around the Scratch attack with a snicker. Then, if the Zangoose wanted to take the time for a swift retaliation, he had a Leer waiting for him. The Cacnea glared, his entire inside starting glow glow an eerie orange, much like a Jack-O-Lanturn.
<Play dirty!> He cried, then shooting off random poisonous stingers in random directions. He teasingly sent a few off in Kenna's direction, but made absolutely sure that they missed. He was dirty, but he at least was kind.

Well, this battle was certainly not going very well for the poor Zangoose. First a critical hit that stung as much as being poisoned actually would have, and now he was being taunted by a cactus. He was not made for such treatment, but he still wanted to show his worth to his new trainer. Spinning around to try another scratch as the Cactnea spun around him, he was intimidated by the Leer and could not retaliate in time to avoid the barrage of Poison Stings.
Kenna squeaked and hopped to the side as the darts flew in her direction. They weren't accurate, but nothing did that to her. "Don't worry, Zangoose. Give it a Leer of your own, then Quick Attack. Try not to hit it straight on."
Grunting assent, the mongoose-Pokemon reared up to his full height and glared at the Cacnea. Then, he darted to the side and towards the spiky creature, claws at the ready.

Cacnea (Defense -3) Hit by Quick Attack Weakening. Capture/Battle?Uses Poison Sting on Zangoose
<Wow. Fast. Fast. > The Cacnea complimented right after the glowing Leer settled into him, lowering his defense once more. Now this giant beast with the nasty claws was going to do even more damage to him than before, which was not exactly needed when he was weakening so much.
The Quick Attack was something he tried to dodge, but because the Zangoose hadn't tried to harm him directly, it ended up being slightly weaker than normal. No matter, the plant didn't have the best defense to begin with anyways. He hissed from the damage, one arm clutching his belly as the other shot out a Poison Sting at the Zangoose's lower back.

Using the momentum from his quick attack, the Zangoose managed to dart away from this new Poison Sting attack, spinning around so that he was directly behind the Cacnea. Kenna couldn’t help but smile, impressed with her new Pokemon’s skill. It would be a valuable partner, at least until she acquired those that appealed to her more. ”Leer if it turns around, but scratch it before it can,” she instructed.
Hopefully before the Cacnea could react, the Zangoose lashed out, his eyes glowing as he prepared a leer should his opponent meet his gaze.

<ACK!> The Cacnea tumbled backwards and fell face first into the ground. Giving out a groan he got up, but stumbled like he was dizzy. Tottering left and right he groaned. <T-t-t-that's all folks!> Then fell face first into the ground defeated.

Kenna smiled brightly at her Zangoose, who looked back at his trainer, a shy smile of his own on his muzzle. "You're awesome. I really think you need a name, huh?" The mongoose Pokemon felt his face heat up in embarrassment. Such praise coming from the human! He'd never had a nickname before. His former trainers hadn't deemed it worthwhile enough. To be part of a team... he looked away, unsure of how to respond, but he hoped that Kenna could see his pleasure from the wagging of his tail.
"Dagger. Because of your claws," Kenna said, giving the newly named Zangoose a pat on the head. Still not saying a word, Dagger nodded once to show his approval. Kenna grinned, then returned the Pokemon to his Pokeball and continued on her way.
---
It was dark, now, and she could see absolutely nothing. Were the electricity on, she would see the lights of the city just up ahead, but as it was? Almost pitch black. Rio was padding along at Kenna's side, using her superior eye sight to keep them on the path. "We should almost be there," Kenna murmured, straining her eyes in vain. A proper bed would be lovely, but apparently it would have to wait.
<It's okay. Just so long as I get a bath once we reach civilization, I can wait.>

Darn mushrooms, always sending that poor little Paras across the route for sap and it was dark. What if she was stepped on by a nasty stalker trainer like Sierra. Oh nonono. Couldn't have that. Eyes darting like crazy in the pitch black of the route, the Paras scuttled slowly, ever so slowly, across the dirt path, hoping to hear anyone coming since her sight was useless for the most part.
Then the paranoid pokemon heard the comings. A trainer! Oh no, forgetting caution and tossing it to the wind the pokemon turned too quickly to dart back into the tall grass and face planted. Oh no, it was the end surely if the trainer stepped on her now. ::Paras:: Paras|

Kenna did not need Rio's meow to alert her of the presence of another Pokemon, though the cat was quite helpful in leading the nearly blind human towards the source of the sound. Still, Kenna couldn't see enough to even know what this Pokemon was. "Could you ask it how far town is??" Kenna asked her Meowth.
Not even taking the time to reply, Rio bounced off towards the Paras, ready to drag it over to Kenna should it refuse to answer her question. Until it proved to be difficult, however, the feline approached with a smile. <Do you know how far it is to town from here?>

Rather than stepped on, the paranoid crustacean was approached instead, by a cat, no less. Cats ate things, didn't they? Scuttling backward, she clicked her claws at the animal, not wanting it to get too close. <S-Stay back!> the Paras insisted, eyes wide as saucers as she took in the appearance of her opponent. She was, truthfully, more terrified of trainers, but this was scary in itself. Trainers were merely worse because of that girl who'd stalked her all the way to her home, and then sent that awful beast to come and beat her up. Well, she'd showed him! And she'd show this cat, too, if she had to.
Hoping to avoid a fight regardless, in case it alerted the trainer, Paras backed into the bushes as far as she could, out of reach, before shaking her head. <Haven't got a clue! Now go away! Go!> Her mushrooms were protestant to her lack of sap-gathering, but she did her best to shut them out.
<Oh, shut up, shut up! Just leave me alone!> she begged the insistent attachments, when they refused to leave her alone.
