It had been a long walk from the Ranger Station; Quinn walked along her first route, quite tired. It was a mild day... nothing special. It was hot enough for Quinn to wear her canvas shorts and floral tank top, with her trusty "trekking boots". They were big and clunky and made satisfying "thud" sounds on the path. Helix, her starter and new friend, hovered all over the place, inspecting each leaf, each stone, each blade of grass in excitement. Quinn hadn't the faintest idea what he was so excited about - battling for the first time? Being with a trainer? Or was he just a generally excited Pokemon? "Can we stop for a bit, Helix? I'm tired." Quinn collapsed into a heap on the side of the path, ripping off her backpack and letting it hit the floor. It was heavy, and was an awful strain on her back, the stupid thing. I wish it could shrink like Pokeballs... Once her thought turned to Pokeballs, Quinn glanced down at her belt. Her six Pokeballs (one was Helix's, the rest were empty) were clipped in a row on her belt. Admiring their shiny red and white patterns, she grabbed the water bottle hanging from the other end of her belt and took a long glug as Helix hovered impatiently. Where was he so desperate to go?! Jerking her head at him, Quinn stopped drinking and wiped her mouth, clipping the bottle back to her belt and rummaging in her tough backpack for some nutrition bars. Finding some raspberry-flavoured ones, she devoured two hungrily, her mouth full of food, eyeing the Shuppet who was now travelling in lazy circles in the air.

Sniff Sniff. A creature's nose twitched a few times, the sweet scent of raspberry still lingering in the air. It spotted the trainer and Shuppet, and then the bag next to her. With a sly grin painted across it's face, it slowly crept up from behind. Upon reaching the bag, it tried to reach inside to find more of those delicious-smelling treats the girl was devouring.
It's grubby paws instead found something crinkly that made noise, and it froze. Busted!

Quinn was lying on her back, looking up at the sky, completely unaware of her surroundings. The clouds were fluffy, the sky was blue, the sun pierced through her vision, the air smelt sweet... this was what she had become a Pokemon trainer for. This was the sort of experience she craved. Helix suddenly zoomed into sight, flying in mad circles annoyingly. "What, Helix?" Quinn said grouchily, covering her eyes to stop herself going dizzy from the sight of her Shuppet. But he wouldn't tire; he kept whizzing and hitting her hands, wanting her attention desperately. Irritably, Quinn propped herself up on her arms, annoyed. "What?!" A rustle cut through the scenario. Whipping her head towards the source of the noise, Quinn's eyes landed on a furry-looking Pokemon rummaging through her rucksack. A Pokemon. Rummaging through her rucksack. "Excuse me!" Quinn exploded, the fiery temper seizing her once again. She threw herself up and stamped towards the rucksack. "What on earth do you think you're doing?!?!" She had half a mind to go crazy right there, but then she noticed Helix at her shoulder. Now was the perfect time to battle. "Helix, Screech and Shadow Sneak!" Almost immediately, the obedient Shuppet let out a piercing wail; being a low-levelled Pokemon, it wasn't enough to split Quinn's eardrum, but it did make it throb uncomfortably. Quinn watched as the Ghost Pokemon extended his shadow and whirled around, intending to strike the Sentret from behind.

The hair on Sentret's back stood up as the deafening screech echoed through it's skull. Floppy ears pressed flat against it's head, trying to drown out the sound. Abandoning the bag for now, it tried to focus on keeping it's composure.
After the sound had finally faded, it's beady black eyes popped open. It focused on the Shuppet floating in front of it, identifying it with Foresight. Sentret now knew it was dealing with a Ghost type, the one type it's normal-moves couldn't hit under ordinary circumstances.
It brushed off the Shadow Sneak unharmed - ghost attacks were completely ineffective against it. With a squeak, it thanked it's parents for it's normal-typing.

Quinn's jaw dropped, before she slapped her forehead with the palm of her hand. Of course! In the midst of her anger, she'd forgotten that Normal types were immune to Ghost ones, and vice versa. Well, now they were in trouble... using Foresight, the Sentret had tipped the balance in it's favour. There was now little hope of winning this battle. But, hey. If they were going to lose, they'd go down with a fight. But it seemed hopeless - Helix's Shadow Sneak attack had barely touched the furry opponent. Clenching her fists, Quinn tossed her head so her fringe moved away from her eyes, and glared at the Sentret. "Same combo, Helix." What else could she do? The only other move Helix knew was Knock Off, which would be utterly useless in this situation. So, raising her eyebrows in anticipated disappointment, Quinn watched as her Shuppet started to produce the same combination of moves.

The little Sentret winced as the Screech ragged at it's sensitive ears, lowering it's defense before the Shadow Sneak attack came again. Sentret almost tittered. The attack still wasn't going to touch it. Oh how wonderful it was to be a normal type when facing a ghost pokémon.
He curled his small, furry body into a ball, using Defense Curl to reverse a minute part of the lowered defense the Screech had caused before a sharp-clawed paw slashed out at the Ghost type in a Scratch attack.
Sentret knew it was as an advantage here and it wasn't going to waste it. After all, it wasn't every day that a wild pokémon was the one in control, was it?

Quinn let out a cry of exasperation as Helix's attack was, once again, harmless. The Sentret almost seemed to be mocking[ her... taking it's time, being relaxed. The cocky little thing - she felt like strangling it with her bare hands. The Scratch hit Helix straight on. The Shuppet moaned as it hit the ground, the sharp claws razing at his semi-transparent body. A small dust cloud rose from where he had fallen, and he lay in pain - it was his first ever battle, and he sure as hell didn't expect anything like this. "Can you do the same combo, Helix?" Quinn asked, knowing it was useless. The Shuppet picked itself up, wavering in the air, before letting out a weak Screech, followed by a slow-moving Shadow Sneak, knowing he was going to fail.

Though the Screech served to yet again lower Sentret's defenses, it really didn't matter. While his defenses were now lowered considerably, the attack still passed through him like it had merely been air. The Sentret even had the cheek to laugh as the Shuppet merely passed through, actually sticking out his tongue at the Ghost-type. <Haha! Nice try, ghostie!> he taunted cruelly, narrowing his eyes in a sneer. <Can't touch this!> He hopped about in a sort of a dancing motion, clearly having the time of his life knowing that he was untouchable. And thanks to the Foresight attack, he could now beat the crap out of the trainer's Pokemon. That's what they got for attacking him!
Still sneering confidently, the Sentret slowly flashed it's claws, as if bragging that they could do damage to the ghost-type, and that there was nothing the trainer nor her Pokemon could do about it. Unfortunately, what he didn't realize was that this gave the Pokemon ample time to realize what move was to be used before he rushed forward and lashed out.

Quinn cursed as the Sentret taunted the duo; once again, the attack slid through the Sentret without causing any harm. Helix, thoroughly depressed by now, was losing the will to fight; watching the Sentret dance smugly was torture. Quinn stamped her foot on the ground, clutching her new Pokémon egg in arms, tightening around it with frustration. The egg's shell felt warm and smooth - it was a good soother for anger, and she was careful not to let her anger tighten her grip, otherwise the egg could easily crack. "Dodge the Scratch!" But, because of the combination of fatigue, disappointment and apprehensiveness, Helix failed to dodge the Sentret's razor-sharp claws, wailing once again as he hit the ground, racked with pain. "Get up, Helix! We can win this!" Quinn lied, biting her lip and tossing her fringe away from her eyes, rocking the Pokémon egg in frustration. She wished she could go out there herself and beat the crap out of the Sentret with her bare fists - but no, that was totally unfair. Pokémon should never be the victims of physical cruelty from humans... Helix moaned, but didn't get up from the ground. Quinn knew it was over; she threw in the metaphorical towel as Helix lay on the ground, rushing to the Shuppet to examine him. With the Shuppet in one arm, and the egg in the other, she surveyed the little ghost. He was covered with cuts and bruises, and had fainted whilst she was rushing to him; her emotions were now a mixture of concern and sadness. They'd lost their first ever battle... how unfair. Helix has fainted! Quinn looked up, stroking the top of the Shuppet's head gently with her thumb to try and rouse him. "I hope you're happy." She frowned at the Sentret, shooting it a glare before setting down the Egg, snatching her rucksack away with her free hand, and scooping up the Egg again, keeping it warm with her body heat. "Now don't even think about stealing another thing, or I'll literally beat you up with my bare hands. Shoo!" After dismissing the Sentret, she turned back to Helix, rocking him gently before setting him down, sitting in a cross-legged position, sticking the Egg onto her lap and digging out a Potion. When Helix came to, she'd feed it to him immediately; he couldn't continue this journey with that little energy. "I really need a carrier for this thing." Quinn pondered as she stared down at her speckled Egg, wondering how she could fashion an Egg-belt with her limited resources.
{OOC: I hope you don't mind me just writing the Egg in like that. :3 I can give it a proper introduction if need be!}

{I have nothing against it, unless the admins do.}
Seeing the anger, Sentret had reeled back. He felt like he was slapped. Hard. Scurrying away quickly, he retreated into the bushes.
Apparently, noise attracted other creatures. A small Wingull landed, sniffing around, poking the ground with her beak. She saw the Shuppet and trainer, and moved closer, tilting her head.
Many things could be expected from the bird, but she raised a wing and said, <Food?>

As the Sentret left, Helix had woken up; his eyelids shifted open slowly, before he gave a little mumble. "Here's a Potion." Quinn said gently, expertly picking up the potion with the Egg balanced in her lap, positioned close to her stomach to keep it warm. She fed the Potion to the Shuppet like a mother would feed milk to her baby; and, becoming so suddenly full of health, Helix shot up like a rocket and revolved in the air, performing elaborate moves in the air, ecstatic that he had now been topped up to full health. Energy coursed through his veins, the feeling so different to what he had been experiencing mere moments ago. As Quinn watched, she noticed a Wingull being... quite polite, actually. It obviously had more manners that the Sentret, as it just raised it's wing and asked. In a good mood since the Shuppet had healed, the blonde smiled and rummaged around in her rucksack - she had no Pokefood, unfortunately, and the only remotely suitable food for the Pokémon were those raspberry bars. Fishing one out and ripping off the packaging, Quinn tossed the now-naked raspberry bar at the bird, before closing her bag and sliding an arm around her Pokémon egg protectively, reassured by it's warmth.

Pleased that her request had been responded to so quickly, the Wingull hopped forward to investigate the offered food. Pecking it tentatively a few times, then deeming it quite edible, the bird tossed the remaining bit in the air and caught it, swallowing it with hardly a thought of chewing. With a happy cooing sound, the Wingull hopped forward, getting closer to Quinn. Examining the girl, the Shuppet, and the egg held in the Trainer's lap, she tilted her head this way to that. Hop hop, a bit closer. Her beady eyes were on the Pokémon Egg. <Food?> she asked again, still staring at the egg.

Quinn followed the direction of the Wingull’s eyes, landing on the speckled egg in her lap. “Oh, no! Definitely not food.” She said sharply, sliding her arms around the egg and hugging it to her chest. Helix, who had been momentarily distracted by a leaf blowing past, sensed his trainer’s uneasiness and hovered close to her casually, so he’d be able to fly forward if the Wingull tried anything. He kept one eye on the stranger and tilted away from the scene, trying to act like he wasn’t poised to attack. Slowly, Quinn dug out another raspberry bar, tore off the packaging once again, and threw it at the Wingull, keeping the egg close. No more raspberry bars for that Pokemon; her stock was limited as it is. She waved her arm again, motioning to the Wingull to go away. “Shoo! There’s nothing here for you anymore, and you can’t have this. Go!” She frowned and flicked her fringe away from her eyes, keeping them dead set on the Pokemon in front of her. No way was this thing getting her egg.

::wingull:: Pokemon encounter ! The bird, having been staring at the egg with a watering mouth, jumped at the trainer's sudden rebuff and scrambled a little bit away, shocked at this sudden refusal. And now the ghost wandered in front of the trainer, as if guarding something. What had she done to anger them?
However, the fear was momentarily reduced as the girl tossed out another raspberry bar towards her. She crept forward slowly, fearful of the human's sharp gaze, then took the bar and flapped her wings to propel herself backwards with the treat. Grabbing it up in her beak, she prepared to launch herself away from the human and ghost, but she couldn't help but feel tremendous guilt for whatever she did. Why were they so angry at her?
<Why mad?> She questioned around the bar in her mouth.

Quinn felt sorry for the Wingull, but her overprotectiveness of her Pokemon Egg outweighed it. She hugged it to her, letting all her warmth flow into its fragile shell. It felt like it would crack if she tightened her grip any more; loosening slightly, she let it loll in her arms. Quinn jerked her head for Helix to communicate with the Pokemon, still keeping an eye on it as it chewed her raspberry bar. Greedy thing. <You're not to go anywhere near our Egg.

Wingull blinked her beady eyes, confused by the request. Leave? But she had only just gotten here!
<More food!> swallowing the last bits of raspberry-flavored goodness, Wingull greedily pecked at the ground, hoping to find some crumbs. When there weren't any, she flapped her wings a few times to get the trainer's attention. <Food! Food!>
She could be just as rude as the trainer and shuppet if she wanted to. Catching a glimpse of the egg still safely in the girl's arms, she felt her beak start to water. <Food~> she chirped happily, taking to the sky and preparing to divebomb.

"No!" Quinn yelled stubbornly at the bird. "No more food!" Couldn't this thing just go away? She had no interest in annoying, rude birds that just guzzled up her food. She got up, still holding the egg close. She wouldn't want it to break or get cold any time soon. The Wingull was flying close - too close for her liking. She shielded the Egg with her bare arms, tossing her hair away from her face and tapping her left foot on the ground in agitation. "Helix, just Screech and Shadow Sneak that thing." She spat, glaring at the Wingull with extreme disgust. The Shuppet floated upwards in a spiral, before opening his mouth and letting out another high-pitched wail; Quinn pressed her chin into her chest, pushing her shoulders against her ears to block out the painful noise. She looked up just as Helix had darted towards his opponent, extending his shadow, aiming to attack the Wingull from behind.

☼ Hit by Screech and Shadow Sneak (Defense -2) ☼ Uses Growl (Possible -1 Attack for Shuppet)
- The Wingull flinched at the girl's harsh, rejecting words. When she covered that egg up in her arms, why, her heart felt like breaking when she realized that nothing else would be shared willingly with her. She stared at the ground, dejected with herself until something rather unexpected caught her off guard.
- What was that sound?! That awful screaming that made her want to cut her ears off?! The Wingull jumped upright, meeting the scary gaze of the Shuppet as the Screech greatly lowered her defense. She was so scared, that she could hardly move. Then he approached, looking ominous as he mysteriously went out of her eyesight. The speedy attack was made before she could react, and soon she was experiencing a great pain in her backside, pushing her beak down into the dirt.
- <Attack! Attack!> She cried, letting out a threatening Growl at the ghost type. If he thought about going any closer to her, then she was going to dish out the pain! Her wings flapped harshly against the ground, lifting her up into the air as she stared at the ghost, just daring him to try that again.

Quinn and Helix experienced a boost of confidence as the annoying Wingull was struck, landing face-first in the dirt. She felt more relaxed, now; her grip on the Egg loosened slightly, but it was still tight in an overprotective, motherly way. Once again, she tried to pour all her warmth into it - inside, a little baby Pokémon was develop, and it needed warmth to live and grow. She was determined to become a mother - in Pokémon terms, of course. She couldn't wait until the day when the shell would crack open naturally, and a perfectly formed but tiny Pokémon crawled out, ready for nurturing. The Wingull responded quite pathetically, in her opinion - it just Growled. What would that do? Helix shivered. Ooh... apparently, a Growl could do a lot. The Shuppet shuddered before shaking himself back into battle mode, having a hover-off with the Wingull a few feet up in the air. It glared at the misty Ghost Pokemon, as if daring it to attack again... "Go straight in with a Shadow Sneak, Lix. No need for a distraction." Quinn ordered; the instructions sank into the Shuppet, before he darted towards the Wingull, extending his shadow; then, quick as a whip, her Starter darted off to the side, intending once again to whirl around and strike the damn Wingull up the backside.

Oh, no, he wasn’t falling for that a second time in a row! The Wingull was ready for the Shadow Sneak this time. Pity that he wasn’t ready enough; the attack was a lot faster than he had expected and he was hit smack in the face just as he turned around. Sufficiently annoyed, and in quite a hefty amount of pain, the bird did the first thing that came to mind: firing a stream of water directly in front of him towards Helix. Maybe dowsing the mean ghost-type with a load of water would make him stop attacking and shrieking at him. His ears were ringing like mad, still.
Wingull used Water Gun.
