l i l l i a n g r o v e s It didn't take long for Lillian to find the Route she was looking for; it was just a crossroad away from the Ranger Station, after all. By now it was almost noon, but today was a cloudy one, and she could feel a slight drizzle. To compensate for this, she put on a thick faux fur sweater over her shoulders and opened up the umbrella she packed. She knew it was a good idea to bring that.
Excitement welling up inside her, she pressed on, eager to see what surprises she would encounter on the route. Her ears picked up the beautiful sounds of droplets sliding off the bark and leaves of trees surrounding the beaten path. Scurrying pokemon on all sides, trying to escape the rain, could also be heard.
Was coming here really a good idea? She'd heard that many trainers had wandered in here and never came out. But she figured they were just not prepared enough. Who knows?

::natu:: M (4) Early Bird & Synchronize Attacks: Peck & Leer Personality: Likes riddles, rather intelligent but very egotistical too Posing a riddle to Lillian "Precipitation, precipitation, leave and return a second time after sunrise but before sunset." That's how the rhyme went right? Natu didn't give a hoothoot's ass. Bigger words made him sound more intelligent, and he didn't want anyone to mistake him for someone of average intelligence. He happily cooed, enjoying the rain on his feathers. He fluffed himself up and looked even more ball like as he did so, shaking drops off of his body and towards Lillian. He looked down from his perch in the tree and noticed her bright head of hair. So he took off from the perch in order to land on her shoulder like a pirate's parrot. "Tell me dearie... what becomes wetter the more it drys?" He asked her with a bit of superiority in his voice. "Tick tock, tick tock, no reason to delay!"

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian trudged through the sandy, muddy road with a begrudging look on her face. The weather made for a dull and boring beginning of her day - her journey, too. But it piqued her interest, at least. What kinds of Pokémon could she encounter only in the rain?
Well, she didn't expect a bird, that was for sure. As soon as she heard the little Natu's chirping she stopped, looking around for the little bird. Then a flap of his wings later he was suddenly on her shoulder. His feathers were sorta wet, but she was too preoccupied with the quaint bird to care. Then he posed a question - a riddle, more specifically. Oh man, I'm so bad at these. She thought to herself. She might've been school smart, but riddles were a whole 'nother story. Well, a candle's wax melts as the fire dries it out.. right? She thought quickly as the bird began tick tocking in her ear.
"Candle?" She proposed in a voice loud enough to hear. Her eyes were hopeful as she looked at the bird. Would she finally be able to guess a riddle correctly?

::natu:: Riddle me this
The natu tried to hold back a laugh. This girl was so silly. Really, a candle? <Negative!> he said, finally unable to hold back a little snicker in his tone. Riddles were just so amusing, especially when he was the only one with the answer. This was one of his easier ones, but he guessed he shouldn't assume everyone had the riddle-solving skills he did.
<I will gift you with another opportunity, if you so desire,> he continued, wondering what else the trainer could come up with. <Try again! Try again!> his wings flapped in time with his words, his beak coming almost uncomfortably close to her face. He seemed to stare at her for a few seconds before fluffing up his feathers once again to dry off as the light rain slid over his feathers.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Her face fell when the Natu discarded her answer as wrong. She was so sure she was right that time, too! Now deep in thought about the solution, she brought her hand up to her chin and began stroking it. The Natu was urging her to guess again anyway. She noticed that the bird was uncomfortably close to her face, but she was in the zone. She had to guess this or else she'd be really bothered by it later.
What became wetter as it dried? She considered first what things dried. Rain? No, obviously not. Grass? .. Towels? Yes, towels! It fit perfectly! "Towels!" She exclaimed, covering her mouth with both hands when she realized how loud she just sounded. (Even though to anyone else it would've just sounded like a squeak).

::natu:: LEVEL 4 | MALE [ Early Bird | Synchronize ] peck - leer { Likes riddles, rather intelligent but very egotistical too } Gives another riddle with the promise of a prize The natu gave a small frown, he didn't expect the trainer to answer the riddle ; his expression changed instantly and gave a wide grin when the trainer answered. "I say, you are certainly right. How about another riddle in exchange for a prize?" he said with a cocky smile. He had a very good one up his... beak now. He was certain that the trainer wouldn't get it if she agreed to his terms. To make himself more comfy, he flew over to a comfier looking perch and made sure his feathers were all fluffed out, before he tilted his head and waited for the trainer.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian was so stoked that she'd been able to answer the riddle correctly. Her face was cloaked in a wide grin as she silently congratulated herself for figuring that out. Getting something right using your own intelligence was always something to be happy about.
But now the Natu became serious, now proposing some sort of prize if she'd answer another riddle. Trainer was thoughtful for a moment; there was nothing to lose in this gamble, so even if she got it wrong, nothing would happen. That was enough to convince her. "Yes." She responded quietly, shifting her weight onto her other leg as she stared defiantly at the challenging bird. Maybe I'm on a winning streak right now. She thought, entwining her fingers together as she waited for him to propose the riddle.

The Natu cooed with pleasure as the girl volunteered to try another riddle, and with a wink in her general direction he recalled one that he heard once. Oh yes, now this one was sure to stump her. <Giant tail of fire, able to shoot water, never a big liar, known for such a totter.> He hummed as he considered the answer to this riddle. It had a rhythm and everything, so he said it with ease. As he hopped on each of his feet to carry him ahead, he looked up at Lillian with amusement. Now what would she think of this one?
<What Pokemon am I?> Oh this was going to be a good one. His eyes twinkled in amusement as he looked at her expectantly. Hopefully she wouldn't get TOO stumped over it, but it was a good one in his opinion.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian smiled at the bird's wink, regarding it as a silent challenge to her. But she was confident that she'd get this... well, until she heard it. Giant tail of fire; wouldn't that be a Ninetails or something? But able to shoot water, never a big liar - now she had hardly a clue at all. Her brain felt like it was throbbing when she thought about it. What a dilemma.
A deep sigh left her lips as she lingered on the riddle, considering all the Pokémon that popped into her head. She'd memorized almost all of the Pokémon up to the new generation that'd been discovered. But it was obvious that'd take too long. No, despite the Natu's best wishes, she was stumped on this one.
Biting her lip, she suggested, "Gyarados..?" It was completely wrong, she knew, but she was hoping that the Natu would reveal a clue or something that'd help her. Ugh, nothing like riddles to make you feel dumb.

Natu frowned at her first answer to the next, and hopefully last riddle. Fluffing up the down on his chest, he shook his head and shifted on the ground idly. “Incorrect,” chirped the Natu. This riddle was particularly difficult, so it was understandable how she’d got it wrong. “Have another try.” The Natu took a deep breath and repeated the riddle.
“Giant tail of fire, able to shoot water, never a big liar, known for such a totter.” However, since this riddle was quite difficult, he decided to throw in some free advice. “Perhaps the types are not what you seek. Try thinking of something perhaps somewhat meek.” Perhaps somewhat meek? What on earth did that mean, I wonder. The Natu smiled again, almost too cheerily. It seemed to imply that maybe the answer was staring the trainer in the face, but would she notice?

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian wasn't surprised that she'd gotten that one wrong. There were so many choices to choose from in the range that that riddle offered, unless she was forgetting something. She listened intently as he repeated the riddle, adding a treasure of a clue afterwards. A meek pokemon, without types in mind? She thought for a while, staring down at the Natu with interest as he smiled up at her.
A long silence went past as she patiently considered the possible answers. Absolutely no creature she'd encountered before in school had a long orange or flaming tail that was able to shoot water. Nor did honesty factor into the equation; that was personality dependent. She focused back on the Natu again. Was he a liar? She couldn't tell; she hadn't known him for long enough. And what was a totter, anyway?
But he certainly wasn't meek, nor able to shoot water, nor had he a long tail. "Not you, for certain." She sighed, continuing to think hard about the riddle. Little did she know that she'd possibly said the answer.

“Giant tail of fire, able to shoot water, never a big liar, known for such a totter.”
That was the difficult riddle that Lillian was trying to discover the answer to. As time pased by, the Natu started to rock from side to side on his tiny feet, reacting to a melody that he was recalling in his mind. At least three songs echoed in his tricky mind as he thought about how long it would take for Lillian to figure it out - if at all!
"Not you, for certain."
Natu snapped out of his thoughts and smiled widely, about to comment when he recalled the words. She said 'not him' and she was certain of that truth, too. She hadn't figured it out, and if she'd noticed his reaction, she'd know the answer. His eyes darted up to hers to see if she'd seen his reaction, and his mouth clamped shut defensively. Had she seen...?

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian had looked back down to the ground, but it was seconds before she looked back up at the Natu. His face looked different from before; was that a glint of recognition in his eyes? It was then that she realized what she'd just said. Not you? Nat yew...? Natu! She'd just said the answer; it was clear as day! "I got it right, didn't I?" She blurted out. Surprised she'd actually said a full sentence, she fell silent, her eyes wide. Although she was sure that she was right, it was the Natu's call in the end. Geez, this bird had her in his little wing. Though she wouldn't admit it, Lillian was a geek and a sucker for brain teasers.

The Natu was about to deny everything when Lillian sussed out the answer after his little reaction. If he had gums and teeth, he’d be gnawing on them, racking his brains trying to find another explanation for the riddle. But alas, poor Erick, it was not to be. The Natu sighed with defeat and nodded, having had his riddles figured out, and looked back up at Lillian.
“Well done,” cooed the small bird, flapping his wings to perch upon Lillian’s back. Don’t worry; he wasn’t going to take a shit on her shoulder. At least not yet. “You figured out my riddles, and as I promised, you can have a prize.” But what was that prize to be? The most difficult riddle had been figured out, so that obviously meant he needed to learn from this... Riddle wizard. “You may capture me if you wish.” Decided the Natu.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian beamed widely when Natu confirmed her answer correct, clapping her hands together to affirm her success. When he perched on her shoulder again, she felt a bit uncomfortable with it, but it was the sort of thing you get used to over time. And it seemed that she'd have the choice to get used to it, too! - Natu had congratulated her and now was offering to join her meager team. She instantly jumped at this chance; Natu, she vaguely remembered, was a dual type with psychic capabilities. With him, she'd be able to learn pokespeak more clearly. Not only that, but Natu were strong assets to any team.
Flashing a smile at the inquisitive bird, she reached into her satchel and pulled out a pokeball, hesitantly tapping it against the Natu's forehead. It was the gentlest of touches she could muster.

The Natu inwardly sighed as the Trainer started clapping at herself in a reward for her own victory. Weirdo. Well anyway, the Natu was sucked into the Pokéball, which glowed three times before it settled. The Natu had been captured, and now was his time to think about more riddles to confuse the Trainer with. He would not be defeated this way! He refused!
So now the path split out into three distinct directions: The right path seemed to lead into a darker part of the forest, and it seemed as though there was a battle raging over there. A fearful cry for help echoed from that direction also. The middle path led through more sunny territory, and it seemed quiet apart from the chirping of birds in the distance. The left path led to the sound of rushing water.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian was quite satisfied with herself for capturing that Natu. She'd needed only the power of her mind to catch her very first wild pokemon! It was a little disappointing that Trickle didn't get the experience he needed from a potential fight, but oh well. There was more gain than loss in the transaction.
As she looked ahead of them, she noticed that the path then branched off into three. All of them had footsteps, but the sunny one and water-sounding one had way more than the dark forest part. Her curiosity was piqued not only by the darkness of the forested area but also the cry for help that she heard. Her skills were clearly needed. This decision was a no brainer; she advanced towards the cry for help in the right path, walking fast so that she would make it in time to help.

<N-No! I didn't mean what I said! I take it back! Your mother has a very fine and round figure!> A Foongus squealed as a Sunkern tried to tackle into her--just barely missing as the Sunkern slipped and slid against the moist grass. That gave the Foongus a bit more of a head start as she kept running with her furious cries for help. She didn't know how she could possibly mediate the situation by this point; it was too much for her to endure at this point.
<You're a terrible Pokemon! Why would you say such a thing? I'm not letting you get away with that! Someone needs to teach you a lesson once and for all!> The Sunkern squealed, to angry to listen to reason as she scrambled off of the ground and hopped after the Foongus. Gosh, it was a bit darker around this area. She was more used to being around the sun, she really hoped that she wouldn't lose her foe in this environment.
The Foongus was much more adapted to this area, but the Sunkern was quick and strong. Better than she was at least, as she glanced back to see the Sunkern regaining lost ground and the gap between the two Pokemon began to close. <Help!> The Foongus squeaked, not wanting to deal with this.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian was baffled, to say the least, when she stumbled upon the sight of two plants fighting each other tooth and nail; well, not quite, actually. It was one sided, she realized; the Sunkern was chasing a Foongus. It was surprising to her, as Sunkern were usually regarded as carefree and gentle. They couldn't really afford to be vicious without arms and legs. But this situation clearly proved that hypothesis wrong. That hapless mushroom looked as though he was in need of help. Feeling sorry for the fungus, she loosed her starter - a Horsea - just in case she needed some firepower.
<What's going on?> The sea horse trilled before glancing at the scene before them. <Oh.> He blinked with realization. Lillian curled her lip in amusement at her pokemon's reaction, but became serious again and stepped forward. "Smokescreen." Her goal was to disorient them. Then she would strike.
Quickly reacting to his trainer's command, Trickle emitted a blast of pure smoke from his nose. It felt good. Having too much of that stuff in you was rather uncomfortable at times.
The rain continued to fall weakly. It seemed like it was going to end soon, Lillian realized as she saw the clouds drifting in some direction. She appreciated the temporary speed boost it gave Trickle, at least.

The Sunkern had just managed to curl his head leaf around the Foongus’s forehead (just below the mushroom fyi) and was preparing to yank hard on him when a plume of smoke tackled him. His eyes stung and he growled an ‘argh!’ before releasing his catch and jumping out of the smokescreen. His eyes opened just a fraction, but then he closed them again with a hiss of pain. Damn, that stung!
The Foongus, now that he was free, rushed over to the trainer and clung to her leg, tears spilling from his eyes. “Th- Thank you!” He clung desperately to the trainer’s leg and trembled as the Sunkern prepared to launch another attack. But the grass type stopped there and glared furiously at the strange Pokémorph. “What are you doing!?” Sunkern howled, “Let me at him! He insulted my mother!”
