Alright, so I was snooping around Verona, and it's a pretty cool place to waste time and stuff like that, but like in any game, I feel that the good places for wasting time, should be rife with mini-games that are amusing, and can probably offer something prestigious if you manage to be the very best at them.Verona seems like the best place for this in my opinion. I'm pretty sure everyone would agree there, it's a central location that's not dependent on your advancement through the game.
My first thought, was that it would be cool to have an arcade in there with some little games that you could spend Pokedollars on, and it allows you get tickets and buy prizes. My basis idea for this was of course Chuck E Cheese, and to some degree, the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy VII.
Then, as I was musing it and coming up with a cogent proposal for you guys I actually picked up my DS, and turned on Soul Silver. Lo and behold, I was parked right outside of the Pokeathlon Dome. Then I really started musing hard on a way to make fun adaptations of the events there into games here on Cheyenne.
Hurdle Dash Ring Drop Snow Throw Lamp Jump Relay Run Block Smash Circle Push Disc Catch Pennant Capture Circle Roll
Above are the events which make up the Pokeathlon. And while I've encountered some problems logistically with doing an Olympic style tournament on Cheyenne, I really feel like this would give an interesting opportunity for players to roleplay as their chosen Pokémon without any interaction with the trainer themselves. I know there's nothing saying it can't be done already, but as I've seen it's a rare thing to see on the site.
The main problem I've encountered while thinking out the idea has to do with players of course, wanting to win. Everybody who competes will want to pull ahead and take the gold, so to speak. The way I think this problem can be countered is naturally with have 3-4 impartial staff members (i.e. they can't have competed in said event) post their final judgements on a scale of 1-10 on how well the Pokémon performed and then I was thinking that number would receive several modifiers to decide the winner.
I know we've shied away from Pokémon having stats in the past, but I was thinking that Pokémon entering the tournament would begin with "5 stat points" to distribute between the five stats associated with the Pokeathlon in the game. (I was thinking all stats would have a maximum of 5)
Speed Power Skill Stamina Jump
And a Pokémon would add the total of the stat that corresponds to the event to any score they receive as a modifier. Of course, this could be one of several multipliers if it's believed that certain missions should be completable during the event, in a similar manner to the Coordinator Battles.
My final thoughts, and the big pay-off I'm seeing would be that trainers receive medals (In a similar manner to the ribbons from Coordinator Battles) and then lastly, they would retain the modified number they receive from each event and convert that number to "Athletic Points" which will act as a currency that will let them buy items for other aspects of the game, and I was thinking "health shakes" that would increase a pokemon's Pokeathlon stats by one point in a certain area, depending on which shake is purchased.
:Note- The pokemon's stats would have no bearing in any other game terms beyond the Pokeathlon Dome.
TL;DR version - Let's make a bunch of mini games so that we can win prizes for lulz!

I don't exactly know how that would work out with all of the other stuff we have to deal with, but I like the idea as far as that's concerned. Just putting it into motion might be the tougher part since lots of us are busy, because it probably wouldn't be a fast-paced thread. Although, I do understand why you wanted to get the idea off your chest.
Just my thoughts, I'm sure you'll get more comments on this.

Alright, so I had another idea, and this one doesn't seem quite as hard to implement as the Pokeathlon, though I really do think that sounds fun. This would essentially be the Pokegear as seen in Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Now, finding something that would actually make a Pokegear useful would be hard, but I think it'd be a cool idea to have something that would be similar to a fishing rod, but for on land. This would allow that as well in a similar way to how the Hoenn Sound and Sinnoh Sound radio station were incorporated in the newest release of Gold and Silver. The costs and stuff were just my attempt to pull something feasible together, if you like the idea they can be changed as seen fit.
Pokegear 5,000 PD Description: One of most useful pieces of equipment that can be owned by an aspiring Pokemon Master, the Poketch was developed by the Johto branch of the Silph Company. It functions as a dual cell-phone and radio. The cell phone allows its owner to get into contact with their friends and allies who also have a Pokegear even from Routes away. The radio function requires a small subscription fee to gain the full benefits, but also comes with a core program listing that allows the proud owner to listen to important news broadcasts and talk shows.
Cell Phone ~ Allows trainers to call other trainers who own Pokegears, and interact with them in threads that both trainers are not in.
Core Radio Package ~ Essentially a role playing device that allows players to keep up with the current events going on in Cheyenne via the news sources, and talk shows.
Basic Program Package - 1,000 PD This program package adds several new shows and listings on the Pokegears Radio, but most importantly comes with a station that plays a tune that helps the thrifty Pokemon Trainer catch less common Pokemon. (Attracts a Common - Uncommon pokemon/3 Time use)
Premium Program Package - 5,000 PD This program package adds several new shows and listings on the Pokegears Radio, but most importantly comes with a station that plays a subtle tune that helps the thrifty Pokemon Trainer attract less commonly seen Pokemon. (Attracts a Common - Rare pokemon/3 Time use)
Gold Program Package - 15,000 PD This program package adds several new shows and listings on the Pokegears Radio, but most importantly comes with the holy grail of pokemon attracting radio stations (Attracts a Uncommon - Rare pokemon/3 Time use)

1. Olympics Event
We have an idea similar to this in staff, just minus the stats. It's also planned to be something similar to the boat, where it's only open for the season. Either that or a TGW event. Your idea is interesting, but we prefer the way Air is handling things in what he has planned. :'D
2. Random Uncommon/Rare Pokemon Grabber
The fishing rod's purpose is to grant access to seeing water types in Cheyenne Falls, as well as the rares on Route 2. To have a land version of that would mean restricting the kinds of Pokemon you can see unless you use this item. Mods do have access to items similar to this that are much much easier to understand. It's what we pay them in. :'D It would be weird having all members gain access to something like this, even if it could be any uncommon/rare Pokemon.
It seems like it's a heavily IC thing, but it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense IC because of the common/uncommon/rare thing.
I think it's something that would be nice in concept, but it ruins the fun of the RP where the character actually goes out of their way to find the one Pokemon they really want. Mods aren't always trolly. <3 Sometimes they really will open the path and give you something you want if you just show effort instead of using an item and getting out of there.

1; Okay, the pokeathlon idea was a quick example of what I wanted, but you kind of skipped over what I was hoping for. Verona has some cool stuff in it, but what about like a Game Corner in there or something where members can gamble and things of that nature, and the winnings can be accumulated and spent on certain items and pokemon.
2; The way I type out my examples, and how I phrase things should not be a guiding reason on your decisions. I'm used to doing things on a site where the systems were complicated and I'm of a naturally analytical mind. I'm simply offering an idea that can be changed to fit the systems as the staff sees fit. I was merely expressing that, not every member wants to slog through 10 pages of pokemon that they're just going to ignore every time they go through a Travel thread.
I thought that it would impact the fun-o-meter in a positive way rather than a negative way as it would attract pokemon that are more rarely seen. I mean, the idea could even be modified, and the radio stations rather than attracting a certain rarity of pokemon would attract a pokemon from a different route.

1. IC Verona Promo Game Area
That's mostly because Verona is more of an interaction area that should not require mods/admins looking over it. Game Corners are a bit iffy, but can be talked about. Also I know I skipped over it, because I'm trying to get the general points across. Keep it simple~ we also have to keep an eye on how much is actually given out. We do have a Lottery, after all. That ought to satisfy some gambling needs? Otherwise if it's for the sake of RP, you're more than free to RP a Game Corner being there and derping around in there whenever you want.
Instead of a permanent area, we're looking more into general events. That way things aren't so chaotic and difficult to manage. Basically for things like that, you're just going to have to be patient and wait for things to come and go. Maybe build more into the event itself instead of simply having a general area that seems as if it would be rather high maintenance. The idea is to make things easy for members to understand, not have a bunch of prizes available all of the time (to keep what economy we have sort of balanced), and to not overwork the staff. We do want things to run smoothly, after all.
2. Easy Uncommon/Rare Pokemon Grabber
I smell a little less productivity from you and more of an actual lecture in your post. It's not going to get you anywhere, you silly frankfurter.
