Wade was doing as he was so often doing, sitting within the Trainer's Lounge resting area with his Pokemon. The dark haired expat of Staunchriver, Seven River's Region stood within the lounge with a yawn, looking over his Pokedex one more time as he watched his two Shinx giggle and pounce two and fro in front of him, full of energy and sending little shocks towards him playfully as well. Her and his quite angry looking Magikarp, which was giving him the stink eye even as it swam two and fro in the shallow waters within the 'pond' in the middle of this lounge room. “That's a good girl, Freya~ You're quite a good catch!” and to Magikarp, he raised an eyebrow. “You however- you're just a derphead. I save you from the Articuno's Vision's wake and you give me the stink eye anyway. Is that your only expression- because if it is I'm hesitant to evolve you. There's enough psychopathic Gyrados out there buddy boy. I don't need you being another one of them.”[ooc; Get it get it? Red+Orange? Scarlette+Mahogany? I'm super funny I know. " these yours, i presume? " she asked lightly, slightly in annoyance as well.
she knelt down slightly, watching them all. they were adorable, honestly. but she just stood back up, dusted herself and glanced back at the magikarp. " sure doesn't like you. " she said, indicating the fish. she smiled faintly, almost in amusement. or at least a pretty mean sarcasm, anyway. she just winked and waited for the boy to answer. some inkling in the back of her mind suggested she didn't even know why she was here. tagged // warr || notes // fail post is fail. The eight teen year old male grinned playfully at his Shinx as the feline like Pokémon pounced to and fro and batted at his hand, which he batted back at her with. The broad shouldered young man wasn't particularly concerned with his Magikarp, the fish could act up all it wanted- in the end he did not have to use it at all. The young man didn't even notice Scarlette coming up he wasn't on his guard about those sort've things right now. And when she did, he simply smiled at her words. There were worse things he could have done, but smiled none the less- not even responding facially to the wink, as if the sarcasm or whatever it was made him ignore the cute redhead's cuteness. “Yeah, they're mine all right. Freya is a good little Shinx, despite her being surprised I caught her- but the Magikarp there, he just hates on everyone and everything it seems. Even gives me the stink eye when I feed him, and I saved him from dying by being pulled in the rudder of the Articuno's Vision last time it was here.” He nodded gently, before grabbing the Magikarp's Pokeball and returning it to the orb, the young man then patting his chest and soon being pounced by the Shinx, which worked it's way to his head, and he stood up straight and at his full height, Shinx as hat and all, to look at his fellow trainer. "Wade Mahogany, and you are?"[ooc; Terribly sorry about the time between replies, my stomach's been hurting all day and I took a little bit of a break. ]

" interesting story, there wade. " she smiled faintly, corners of her lips curling upward. her hair floated around her face and her hand reached back to pull it out of her eyes. her gaze was swept away again by the playful shinx, and she watched it. even as wade was standing.
in fact, she stepped back a little sheepishly when he rose to his full height. " sit back down. i feel.. like a child under your gaze. " she complained, a slight pout irritating her face. but she just glanced at him, shifting rather uncomfortably under his tall stature. " scarlette hawke. " she responded evenly, before looking at the magikarp again. mostly because she didn't want to have to feel short looking all the way up wade's torso. and, she wasn't that type of girl. he might think she was checking him out, when really she was interested in watching the shinx. tagged // warr || notes // lolol. he's making her get nervous.

He smiled gently, rolling his shoulder as he listened to her- trying to be as polite as he could, but the static from his Shinx... tickled up and down his body as it had clambered up him- and as it perched upon his head a few strands of his hair stood up as if defying gravity- thanks to the static electricity. The young man simply shook his head and dropped into a crouch so that by bending his knees and squatting a bit the young man was about even height with her and his Shinx and the boy were both glaring directly into her eyes. “Nice to meet you Scarlette.” As soon as the words came out like a barrage, his hand shot out in front of him, waiting for her to take the hint as it hung in the handshaking posture. The icy blue eyes of the young man shined with friendliness beneath his slowly levitating bangs and his wide and generous smile. "So what's your business in the trainer's lounge today...?"Oh yes, polite or not he was all business when it came to girls like her- ones he didn't know and who he had not yet began to understand. He forgot to tell her yes he saved Magikarp from the wake of Articuno's Vision- but he had done it after threatening a very mean girl with... death for threatening his Totodile. The same sort've death that Magikarp there was about to be dealt, if Wade hadn't thrown a Pokeball and rescued it. [ooc; He is really making her nervous, just from being taller...? XD ]

" but you seem to be out of place.. what are you here for? not battling, i wouldn't think that. " her eyebrow raised, executing a quizzical, curious look. most people thought scarlette hawke was some sort of child. but she wasn't. she was an eighteen year old woman with dignity. and proving that day after day. she'd been here many times. battled many people. lost some, won some. it didn't matter. as long as she came out with more wisdom and strength for the next time, that's what counted. the redhead tilted her head, trying to prod out the answer to her question. The son of the Gym Leader of the Staunchriver Gym in the Seven River's region [yes, the figure I reference is Wade, I get creative sometimes with the nouns] nodded gently as he listened to her wordseven now- her responses and otherwise. He wasn't the standard sort of person- but she didn't know that. She didn't know that the kid had traveled all the way from his home last time he was here, and he had traveled all that way with only a Weedle a newborn Weedle at that, as his partner Pokémon. Battling was as much about strategy as strength or skill of the pokemon, and a Pokémon learned just as much- if not more, by losing a battle sometimes. It kind of showed in the fact that his smile stayed just as wild as the Shinx snuggled into his hair and it continued to defy gravity here and there thanks to static. The young man's smile actually widened for a moment as she laughed, the young man eyeing her in some way like you might a creature you've never seen before- and in someways like a predator to prey. It was a natural thing, the young man analyzed other trainers just as much as he analyzed Pokemon- because how were you going to win if you couldn't pick up things about other trainers. “I'm just relaxing with my Pokemon, doing a little bit of training- all of that stuff.” he cut in- before nodding to her gently and tilting his head. "Well, sometimes we surprise you."[/b] yes, it was a modest response- not the arrogant 'I'm not most men' that he could have responded with. "As I was always taught, sometimes battles are more about the experience they give us than the experience they give our Pokémon. Every Magikarp hides a Gyrados, and within every person there's the chance of a great trainer with the right stimuli."Oh yes, he talked a lot and was a bit self-important, but he wasn't trying to be, simply responding with what he thought was the stuff most important to say in response to the crimson haired, crimson eyed lass. For a moment, his eyes narrowed and the icy blue gems that they were seemed to soften as he thought of the last Scarlette he had known... the girl he had given the first Pokémon he ever gave away to- Kei the Pichu. He wondered how she was doing, and then it came to him. There was a chance this girl was over here because she was eyeing his Shinx. The Magikarp stuff was just banter- but he did not push it, at least not yet. [ooc; Oh, but short enough to be worried about it? XD ]

" training? you don't seem to really be doing anything.. " she spoke softly, trying to tone her growing frustration. she wasn't really mad.. just kind of irked that he was saying these things, and proving little point to them. because of this, she found her gaze sliding to the magikarp. " seeing as the magikarp resents you so outwardly. i don't think you could actually get a gyarados out of him. i'd honestly be worried if you did.. " she said, a faint challenge in her voice.
though most of it was honestly blunt statements. she would be worried if he managed to make this magikarp a gyarados. because it'd just as easily be capable of wreaking havoc and vengeance on wade for whatever he'd done. for saving him? no doubt. scarlette just smirked, tilting her gaze to watch the shinx. " interesting pokemon there, though. full of energy. " she smiled though her eyes didn't really. they seemed cold, hard. not easy to get through. she was masking her emotions, wasn't entirely good at it. she was a faker, one who was fairly good at hiding and mocking other emotions than the one she actually held. scarlette felt herself lower her eyes to wade's trying to find out just what kind of trainer he was.

The young man smiled gently at her- and his eyes mimicked his expression, the icy blue orbs showing the light of compassion but the young man caught the glance off after several seconds- this girl had no reason to be analyzing him, especially if she was attempting to insult his skill as a Pokemon trainer. The young man rolled his broad shoulders gently, eyeing her face and her eyes, analyzing her expression gently as he considered her words. "Yeah, they are." he replied, a bit of arrogance showing- or perhaps just returning her expression with his own masked emotions. To her magikarp question, and her continuing to eye it upon his Pokemon belt, the young man simply tilted his head. "Never judge a book by its cover they say, no? How can you train a Pokemon if you don't spend time with it- really...? That's what I'm doing. By increasing our connection I'm increasing our ability to work together as a team- and my ability to train them into a formidable fighting force."[/b] He didn't say the next thing, but as Scarlette continued to eye him, Magikarp gave her the stink-eye too. The Shinx however, she purred at the girl and after a moment shouted an audible Shinx equivalent to a meow, and pounced at Scarlette, assuming that she must be her trainer's mate; as young as Freya was she didn't understand human social rituals yet. "And you- what would you do with such Pokemon? Would you use them as they are tools?" if he wasn't testing her in return- he might have mentioned 'or would you use them as they were meant to be' but he withheld that, not entirely sure why the girl was giving him the stink eye [of sorts] and yet had not left. Was she eyeing his Shinx and his Magikarp? [ooc; He's totally not even strong. Not even the top twenty strongest trainers. XD ]

" indeed. pokemon are strong, no matter the field they are placed in. " she said evenly, before lowering her gaze to the adorable lion pokemon. she smiled at it, completely oblivious to the fact she was getting a stink-eye from the magikarp. though the next words he spoke struck a cord in scarlette, and immediately she took a more furious tone. pokemon weren't used for tools, weren't meant to be. they were living, breathing things just as humans are. they have the ability to fight, yes, but the redheads actions with them were obviously not favorable for fighting. she was a coordinator.
" using pokemon for tools is not something i do. nor anyone should do. pokemon deserve to be loved, nurtured and forgiven for the mistakes made, just like we should. i am honestly not a fan of sending my pokemon out to faint anothers. i've chosen to be a coordinator because of this. The more experience and older trainer [by a few months is still older ;3] placed a proverbial mask of neutrality upon his face as he watched the pretty redhead and listened to her words. The dark haired young man didn't make a word until she was done- even watching her posture and the movement of her hand into her bag, before nodding gently. "Welcome to the winning team then, miss. Pokémon aren't tools, they're like family..." he tilted his head "But sometimes we have to fight- them and you, for survival or against villainy what then? Is it just as bad to faint a spearow attacking a bunch of caterpies as it is to specifically brutalize Pokémon simply for the battle experience it gives your own, and the training it allows them...?"Yes, yes he was being a extremely haughty speaker right now, and a bit of a know-it-all simply from his tone, but his posture was gentle as he said the words, trying to match eyes with her to get her truest answer. The way she reacted to things... he could tell she was eyeing his Pokémon for sure. But what would a Coordinator really be able to do with a Gyrados?

" why are you asking these questions? " was her first answer. she looked unnerved, annoyed. somewhat peeved. " i fight when i need to. i've been coming here to help people. i may not agree with what i do, but sometimes it's necessary. my pokemon are not angry with me, thus the reason i still stand within this building. " of course, she wasn't really sure she'd answered the question. she really didn't know how. " villainy acts are some things you have to be wary about. like you said. but it's not the same, stopping a spearow from terrorizing caterpies, not if you're trying to save someone else. in this case, you'd be saving many lives, one of which would be the spearows. " she paused, taking a breath, before looking directly at wade.
" because you're stopping the spearow from overeating. this is far different than sending pokemon into the arena to battle. maybe i'm a hypocrite, as i am doing this. but i can't change what i've done. i can't warp what i am. i'm scarlette hawke. thats who my pokemon know me as. their friend and trainer. " she said, narrowing her eyes. " but my pokemon do not resent me. they know when they need to stop. they understand my means. in fact, they've stopped me. they know the limits, wade. and i trust them. " it was probably rambling, what she said. but she was trying to get the point across that her pokemon didn't hate her. they fought by her side, grew stronger by the bond they had. they did this because it was needed. in order to protect, you had to fight for your rights. but scarlette's way of fighting didn't always end in the unconscious body of a pokemon. not always. tagged // warr || notes // <3

The dark haired young man who had never refused to catch a Pokemon he ran into that attacked his team or needed help, he was quite perturbed by her response. He wasn't lecturing her or talking down to her- simply reading her intentions and doing the same thing any Pokemon trainer would do. Because she could call herself what she did, but even Coordinators had to fight when it came to traveling or stronger trainers assailing them. His icy blue eyes actually broke contact with her entirely- as if he had lost interest in talking to her or more likely had chosen to stop talking so that he could think on things, and then he nodded gently, smiling. "Why else would I be asking you these questions? A trainer fresh out of an academy- hell a freshman within any of the trainer schools, they would be able to pick up that you were eyeing my Pokemon. So given the fact I've talked to you as I have, why would you think otherwise?" The young man's broad shoulders contracted, making a sort of 'w' movement when it came to his shoulder's rising in between his neck, a faux sign of hostility or defensiveness, as the young man waited for her response. He could be just as blunt as her- if not more blunt, and he also wasn't here to play games with other trainers, he was here to spend time with his Pokemon and try to train them. "And before I even considered selling Pokemon to you I'd have to find out how morally upright you were- and also find out your views. Test you before I even consider letting Pokemon which are my responsibility possibly be handed over to an irresponsible person, or a reckless person, or a sociopath... do you understand, Scarlette...?"

" well you see, i don't know these 'signals.' but yes i am indeed interested in your pokemon. they are strong, and perfectly capable of bringing out their showy side. even the magikarp, i could use his stink-eye to my advantage. " she laughed, waving her hand slightly. but he just kept talking, so it was her turn to shut up. her eyes hardened, intentionally giving wade a withering look. she shook her head, letting her vibrant hair move around her face. she noticed the way he raised his shoulders, held a more defiant look. pinned her speech with his own version of blunt aspects. she felt her hands clench. " i don't let my pokemon down. i trust them more than i do a human being. i trust them more than myself. but you don't seem to understand that. my pokemon are my family, even if i don't show my love for them outwardly. " she said, her voice slowly growing more and more serious.
she took a step back. " i stand by what my pokemon believe, not what some human thinks. yes, i am human. no, i don't fully understand the feelings a pokemon has. but my pokemon are leading me. " she said, then let out a sigh. she shook her head and looked away. however she turned her chin up, and looked at wade. " i can be all of those things, wade. i can be irresponsible. i can be reckless. i can lose my temper and act like a horrible person. i became a trainer because i wanted to learn. i'd never gotten the chance as a child. " she smiled then, an actual, open smile. her hand slipped into her bag, bringing out a pokeball. she allowed her thumb to brush against the button, press it into the sphere. it popped open, a red light pooling out onto the floor and forming into the shape of a riolu.
it stood beside her, a look of slight disinterest on his face. he glanced up at his trainer, taking a moment to place his paw on her thigh. he glanced at the trainer in front of her, a bit quizzically, and a bit threateningly. but he didn't move. just stood there, before dropping his gaze and looking away. < he doesn't seem.. happy with you, scarlette. you were getting annoyed again? > |
[/i] he spoke through touch, therefore only his trainer could hear his voice. she glanced down at him, her expression softening. she let out a cough and sighed. Wade couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at the redhead when she said all those words- the dark haired youth listening to her every word with narrowed eyes- the icy blue eyes truly glacial for a moment as she spoke, the young man listening and listening until his semi-neutral expression disappeared. A complex emotion was displayed upon his face- part disgust and part concern. The young man's eyes widened gently to look over her and her Riolu, considering again and again- despite his lips etched in a true and deep frown. The self-named young man nodded gently to her and then turned to walk away, grabbing his Shinx's Pokeball and returning the electric lion cub back to the orb. "Well, I'd be doing nothing but endangering you if I handed you more Pokémon when you can't even decide things for yourself. Letting Pokémon lead you can lead you to dark places, you've got to work as a team."He did not wait for a response, his words had been quick and decisive as he began to walk off, the dark haired young man's posture relaxed despite the fact that the little fighting type had just tried to threaten him with physical violence, or at least implied it was going to. His hands dangled well away from his pokeball belt, even.

" endanger me? really? is that the best you can come up with. are you that obnoxious as to think i can't handle myself? i never said i couldn't make decisions on my own. i never said i couldn't lead my own life. " she said, her voice steadily rising. her pokemon merely looked at her, a faintly uneasy look in his eyes. but he merely let her go, stepping back a bit.
she just shook her head. " whatever floats your boat. " her voice shook with frustration, turning on her heel. she didn't want to deal with someone like him. she'd never met a trainer who picked a person apart. nowadays, people sold their pokemon to complete strangers just for the extra money in their pockets. she wasn't stereotypical, but she was getting awfully pissed off with the bombarding questions he had for her. her life was her life. she wasn't some stupid, blind girl who couldn't take control of her life. Wade had strode quickly away from the scene, the young man's pace enough to make his hair flick to and fro against the artificial current that the quick steps and his body cutting through the air caused. The dark haired boy strode at least a third of the room away, before turning with military precision to face her. His boots hit the ground hard, and the young man tilted his head at her, narrowing his icy blue eyes. "Are you really listening to what I say, kiddo...? Look, and I'd think you'd understand this if the words you said were true- my Pokemon aren't tools to me, and they're not things to just be sold off to the highest bidder. When I catch them I make a commitment to myself and to them to make sure they get the best treatment they can and their potential is fully met. But more than that- I care about them, so I'm going to find out anything and everything I can about someone who's trying to buy them, period end of sentence. And maybe if you weren't so busy trying to be defensive-" yes, the young man had read her posture enough to understand how she was being, "You'd see that I'm also trying to look out what's best for you. I ask these questions and am trying to know more about you for one reason, really- Pokemon are dangerous. The same Magikarp you think you'd be able to train, but hates me so much that he'd be a menace? I could deal with him, break his hate and make him a true contender. And if he ever did go on a rampage..." he reached down to his belt and grabbed the second Pokeball there, throwing it up and summoning the pokemon he had gained as a starter when coming to Cheyenne, his Magnemite, Scrapheap. "He'd easily be able to handle him.... How about you? Would you be able to bare making your own Pokemon be in pain if it meant others were safe thanks to it...? These are questions we have to ask ourselves when dealing with these creatures, each and every Pokemon is a force of nature onto itself." He nodded, smirking gently and waiting for her response, which given her reaction to other stimuli, he could only assume would be rageball fit.

even after he stopped talking she didn't speak. not a word. instead she just kind of stared at him, confused. uneasy. a bit testy. though, she normally would have started a ragefit, getting mad and channeling her anger into words. this time she didn't. instead she just felt the bubble of emotions sitting on it's brim. " fine. keep me safe. it's not like you'd honestly care. you say that you try and protect all trainers. but do you really? i don't have to fling money away for pokemon. i can find companions who could be more loyal and forgiving of me than the two pokemon you have there. " she said stiffly, looking away from him, directly to the ground. riolu turned to her, taking her hand and watching wade. he was testing her, and apparently breaking her down. she didn't like to be questioned. maybe it was good for her. all the riolu knew was that she couldn't answer his question.
could she handle a gyarados? he looked at her, perhaps with worry implanted in his face. but he didn't say anything either. so it wasn't entirely valid. tagged // warr || notes // derp.

Wade could read between the lines too, and the fact he had spent the entire time so far that he had been watching her doing exactly that- trying to find out more about her and to test her character and strength of will- and he could tell she had the latter, even if she covered up her character as fast as a nun [and not the kind that Syl hung around]. The broad shouldered young man ran a hand through his hair, listening to her words and then answering her not with words but with actions. Wade had been taught by experiences that actions spoke more than words sometimes, and striding forward- storming forward even. His boots hit the ground with twice the speed they had hit when he was walking away from her, and within no time at all he had closed the distance with her. As the young man in an orange jacket stopped right in front of her, he did not wait for her to respond, gently cupping her chin and attempting to pull her into a kiss. The young man's icy blue eyes were narrowed with fiery, severe emotion- though exactly which emotions they really were was something probably left up to debate within the end of things- the softened though, not having the anger from the moments before.

" woah. first you're lecturing me on what i do, and now you've decided it's okay to kiss me? " she said, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. whereas, it seemed her riolu had other plans.
though he didn't really move. he just stood there, shaking furiously. his hands were balled into fists and he looked utterly outraged. had he just kissed his trainer? he had, right in front of him! the riolu seemed to channel his unhappy thoughts a little bit forcefully, because scarlette suddenly let out a shocked gasp and raised a hand quickly to her head, perhaps unintentionally swatting underneath wade's chin in the process. she shook her head slightly, looking across at riolu. her eyes widened and she blinked. her words in her mind were stern, a very straightforward 'no.' he complied, but expressively didn't appear happy about it. tagged // warr || notes // LOL.
