They had met at Verona in the Battle Rooms. It wasn't long before they exchanged numbers and had heard of the vast opportunities of mining here. If nothing else, Ice would be able to get training for her claws. Obtaining a mining pick was easy enough as well as the box involved.
Nora checked her supplies while Black Ice checked the rope and the backpack as the two of them waited for Abi to show up. While the two of them had distinctly different personalities, they had the same drive to succeed. Nora pondered if the Pidgey would be involved with this one as she tried to think of more strategies to get the most out of mining.
"Hmmm... I wonder if we'd run into any Pokemon down there."
It was more a rhetorical question, as only one Pokemon was allowed by the rules. If the mine collapsed, people would be in serious trouble with multiple Pokemon taking up space. Still, meeting a powerful thing down there could mean trouble. The exercise would be good for Black Ice, and hopefully profitable.

Abi grabbed a shovel from a stand nearby and a box too, just in case she found something worth keeping. She'd been meaning to go down to the ruins for ages and now that she'd met Lenora the circumstances couldn't have been more perfect. Taking note of the rules, Abi released only one of her pokemon, the chosen one being her onix, Lohi. Hopefully the caverns would be large enough for him! And if not? Well he'd just make his own!
Lohi weaved his large head about as he surveyed the area. His tail flicked with anticipation. Looking down at Abi he asked what Lenora looked like and once he had her description he found she was easy to spot. Abi deftly jumped up onto his back and settled herself on his neck as he slithered over to Lenora and Black Ice. She waved to them both, "Hi there," she said, slipping down onto the ground, "This is Lohi, I thought he might come in handy in case we get stuck or tired. He could carry us all!" She grinned, her own excitement now peaking.

Seeing the massive Pokemon, it was her turn to stare in envy. Nodding in respect to the larger Pokemon, she looked over to her new ally and began to ponder strategy in her mind. Black Ice just stared at the large Pokemon and whistled, putting her clawed hands behind her head. Nora returned the wave and actually managed a smile. This would be a lot easier with this creature around. "I have no idea what we'll find around here, but Ice has some sharp eyes even in the dark. I have a couple of flashlights with batteries and several gallons of water with rations should the... unfortunate happen. With that Goliath leading the way, it will just be a matter of sorting. Ice's precision can cut around jewels and veins to make certain we're getting the most out of what we can carry out." Ice smirked and gave a thumbs up to the other two as Nora heaved the pick in her hands on her shoulder. "I suggest we start burrowing a small tunnel, then checking the rocks about every ten feet. If we start from the outside, we can use the daylight instead of the flashlights to save the battery life for a couple of runs. We can also check to see how sturdy the rock is around so that we don't fall into a pit on accident with our picks and shovels. Should your friend be burrowing, however, I'm sure we'll know about a cave in on the floor in a hurry." Black Ice ::sneasel:: Level 4 Inner Focus - Keen Eye Scratch||Leer||Taunt Starting a new cave was ambitious, but it might yield way to rocks and veins which had not been discovered by the less ambitious. If they were careful, they could take things inch by inch to discover a thing or two.

Lohi chuckled deep in his throat at the sight of the little sneasel whistling. He was big, yes, but he didn't feel any more special for that fact. He just liked getting out and doing things! And today he was being given that opportunity. He was very excited!
"Excellent, it'll be good to have some keen eyes and sharp claws on our team. Lohi can be the bulk and Ice can be the precision!" she laughed, hoping that the unfortunate of course wouldn't happen, but she was sure that if they just followed her onix they'd be fine. Looking around, Abi pointed out the entrance to the ruins. "Do you want to make our own tunnel from there then, yeah? That would be cool, we'd find more stuff than regular people starting out." She hoisted her own equipment and headed towards the ruins, readying her shovel. Lohi followed her, though his eyes lingered on the sneasel. He hoped to get to know her better, she looked fierce.

"Considering we have his massive size on our side, we might as well use it. Ice, if you could scout ahead?"
Ice nodded and Nora gave her an end of a rope tied to her belt to prevent getting separated. Looking through the first expanse from the light on the outside, there appeared to be an incline going down in to the deeper parts of the cave. Nora realized that the light outside didn't give as much light as she had once thought and turned on the flashlight early.
"Hmmm... people have tunneled here a lot it seems. Looks like we weren't the only ones with that plan."
Ice wasn't much familiar with caves, as she was a bred Pokemon and with Nora all her life. Climbing over a few areas, she tugged on the rope a little bit. Nora followed the tug and shone her flashlight in that direction.
It appeared there were a few previously dug tunnels of Pokemon of similar size, mostly with horn marks, but there didn't appear to be much else.
"Interesting those tunnels don't look too deep. I wonder what they hit over there that they couldn't burrow through."

Abi followed the pair and Lohi slithered behind her. Luckily the tunnel was large enough to accommodate him, but how long would that last for? Abi had a feeling that very soon Lohi would have to lead the way by breaking through walls or widening smaller tunnels. She ran this theory past Lenora, wondering what she thought.
Keeping quite low to the ground, the large onix felt his breathing relax as they made there way into the tunnel. This was where he belonged, safe underground. If he could've he would have purred with delight. Instead he settled for nudging Abi playfully as she walked ahead of him. Grinning at her rock snake, Abi held onto one of two flashlights she'd brought with her. She scanned the ground in front of her periodically to make sure she didn't trip over anything.
"Well whatever they hit they clearly didn't have an onix with them!" Abi said, grinning. Lohi moved up beside her and examined the rock face. He could do it. Raising his head he said, <Taking cover right about now would be a good idea. Feel free to use my tail>, before smashing through a shallow tunnel. The rocks around the rim crumbled and he slithered forwards to repeat the motion. Abi beckoned Lenora and Ice to follow under the protection of Lohi's tail.

Ice and Lenny were all too enthusiastic to get out of the Onix's way and hid under the sanctuary of his tail. Keeping the flashlight steady, the crumbling rocks which started to fall around them were at least worth studying to see if they were worth anything. One came around Nora's feet as her face winced from the loud digging sound.
"See anything in this?"
Ice peered at the single rock for a moment and let out a puff of disgusted air, tossing the rock behind her, but her ears perked for a moment as she found another piece of rock which landed by the tail. This one, she seemed to have interest in.
After showing it to Lenora for a few moments, she brought the flashlight up. Apparently it was starting to show why this area was given up on by the opposing party.
"Looks like some sort of a quartz deposit. Get a load of the crystals on this one. Normal horn wouldn't be able to get through this stuff. I'm not a geologist, so I don't know what kind of stone this is, but it's shining enough to get my attention. I hear diamond is pretty chalky when it's first unearthed, so I don't think we're that lucky..."
