Name: Kazashi Go (“Kaz”) Gender: F Date of birth [Age]: 19
Appearance:
Build: Kaz is built like a runner, lean, tall, and muscular - the result of an active, adventurous childhood.
Hair: Kazashi does not believe in long hair. The young lady is a tomboy that really doesn't want to bother, but her mother wanted her to be at least a bit feminine while she was at home, so a compromise was struck. When free, her locks fall to just below her shoulderblades; you'll rarely see that. Usually she'll clip the back up into a punky, freeform bun with a couple of hair decs to keep it out of her way. There is a reason for the unusual shade of pink, other than her desperate desire to drive her mother upthewall insane every morning she came down for breakfast starting at around fifteen, and it is...the fact that it is a godawful mouseblond/brown hue in its natural state. Of course, Dr. Suzume wonders how pink is better, but there's nothing she can do about it now.
Eyes: Aqua-blue and wide. Polite folks would refer to them as 'owlish'. The glasses don't help matters much, either, but hey, it makes her look even more science-y. YAY!
Clothes: Kaz dresses for comfort, first and foremost. On the road she's kitted out in jogging suits, cargo pants, simple tees, and some tough sneakers. You'll never catch her in a skirt.
History:
Kazashi was born on the outskirts of Castelia City in the region of Unova, the daughter of a research scientist, Dr. Suzume Go, who worked in Passerby Analytics, and her father Katsutoshi Go, a writer for the local newspaper.
As both her parents were well off and secure in their careers she and her younger brother Minoru lacked for nothing. However, there was one inescapable rule growing up: No Pokémon allowed in the house. The first time Kazashi recalls coming up against this rule was on her 5th birthday, when her beloved uncle Goro traveled from his home in the Cheyenne region bringing her a Pokémon egg from his ranch as a present for her. He was firmly told by Suzume that they would not be accepting it. Her daughter would not be allowed to keep Pokémon as pets. Whatever she did after she gained her majority was her business, but while she lived under Dr. Suzume's roof the edict held.
Why did Dr. Suzume have such an antipathy for Pokemon, even though she works in a company focused on Pokémon research and development? Kazashi doesn't know the truth of it, and deities know she's asked. Dr. Suzume certainly has no plan on sharing, nor do her husband or her brother, both who do know, and quite clearly. However, on reading between the lines and hearing muttered rumors, Kazashi thinks it might have been due to a former suitor of hers choosing to go on a Pokémon journey and become a Master rather than stay with her. The petty stupidity of such a grudge would make sense given the irrationality of her mother's dislike. Suzume's brother Goro having been a successful Pokémon breeder and rancher for decades probably didn't help matters much, either.
Anyway, Kazashi had a childhood that was pretty normal – friends, school, and driving her younger brother nuts. Outside of the Pokémon rule, she was fairly free to do pretty much anything she wanted, as long as she studied and didn't disappoint her parents that way. And the mailed fist of parental expectation wasn't too hard to live under; Kazashi was a bright kid who loved to learn anyway, and she beat herself up more than her parents did if she brought anything less than an A home. She did meet the Pokémon of her classmates, from time to time. Kazashi was also something of a tomboy growing up, and that plus her inquisitiveness led her to encounter a fair number of wild Pokemon, albeit at a distance. And wild Pokémon are very good at running away...
At a very early age, her opinions on Pokémon were pretty much NOT shared by her mother. However, as long as she didn't bring any home, everything was fine.
It was about at the age of 13 that two things hit the Go household: puberty, and a class project. That year her history teacher decided to be hands-on, and gave an assignment to the class – a year long assignment where the students would research their family history. Of course, Kazashi threw herself into it with a will, and with the help of her father, traced back several generations.
It was then that she found she'd had quite a few trainers and Coordinators in her family. Not all of them went anywhere, but there'd been at least one Master around the time of her great-great grandfather. So her uncle Goro, whom her mother described as a hopeless maverick, was keeping up a family tradition with his Pokémon breeding. Yay!
This only served to further Kazashi's love of Pokemon, and soon books about them were appearing everywhere in the house, and posters of regional gym leaders and masters started going up on the girl's wall. Dr. Suzume weathered her daughter's enthusiasm about her discoveries with frosty nods and lots of chamomile tea in the quiet safety of her library. It was only Katsutoshi quietly reminding his wife that this search for identity was normal in adolescence (yes, even Suzume did at one time, you cannot deny this!) that kept the situation from coming to a head.
The phase didn't go away, though. Honestly, did anyone expect it to (besides her mother?) It wasn't like her mother could keep her from seeing Pokémon every day and wanting to learn more about them. And now that she knew family history tied them to her, Kazashi started making Plans ™ for her future.
In about her sixteenth year, she laid it out for her uncle during a visit. She'd quit school, she said, move to Cheyenne with him and become the most awesome rancher ever. To his credit, Goro took his niece's proposal with the gravitas she so desperately wanted from him, but then said “I appreciate your enthusiasm, and would welcome you on my ranch at any time...but seriously, Kazashi, a life with Pokémon is not just about reconnecting with old family traditions and spiting your mother – it's about you and your relationship with them. So, think long, and think hard. What kind of future do you really want? If it involves Pokemon, it's fine, but is ranching really what you want to do for the rest of your life?”
When she thought it over, she realized he was right. A life of ranching really wasn't for her. However, learning about them was. So her plans changed. Just a tad.
During her senior year, she started applying to college early. She was accepted to all the schools she applied for, with a middling-to-okay range of scholarship offers...except for the one that was her first choice. The letter from the university regretted that she'd not been accepted into their Pokémon research college; due to the number of students applying for entry reaching an all time high, they'd had to be extremely selective. The criteria had included taking into account any experience with Pokémon...and aside from meeting the companions of classmates, Kazashi had none. However, they would be more than happy to keep her in mind for next year's class as her grades had been excellent, and her passion for the area of study quite clear. The letter also suggested that the year would give her plenty of time to get some work with Pokémon in her history.
"Like going on a Pokémon trainer's journey?" she asked her high school counselor, as they reviewed the letter. "Why, yes. If you'd done that, I'm sure that would have counted. However, that *would* have interfered with your schooling...which would put you in the same situation but for different reasons."
It was then Kazashi knew what she must do.
After graduation, she followed her heart and told her mother she was taking a gap year to relax and get some last-minute studying in. Her mother was displeased when she found out her daughter was taking a year off instead of going straight to school, but was grudgingly willing to allow it as long as Kazashi was spending her time getting in some experience for her future studies... then she practically hit the roof when Kazashi announced her intentions of 1) learning to be a trainer, and 2) entering the field of Pokémon research. Dr. Suzume let Kazashi know in no uncertain terms that she was *not* going to pay for her daughter's education if she entered that field of study so she'd better hope the university threw some excellent scholarships her way.
On her father's advice, Kazashi did take her uncle up on his offer and moved out to his ranch for the summer, both to start getting some hands-on experience with Pokémon handling, and to get some desperately needed space between mother and daughter. She applied for and received her trainer's badge that fall, and is now off on her own Pokémon journey in Cheyenne.
While Dr. Suzume is taking her own sweet time to warm up to her daughter's choice of career and their communications are few and far between, her father and brother never broke contact. Minoru still calls and sends letters to keep apprised of how she's doing (he's actually showing interest in Pokémon breeding, something they'll never share with their mom) and occasionally her father will wire a few bucks to her bank account to keep her going.
Interactions with Pokemon:
Much to her dismay, most of Kazashi's info about Pokémon before very recently was restricted to text and pictures.
Kazashi hasn't ever had the opportunity to have any Pokémon companions of her own. Her mother regards them as bothersome tools with fur or scales or whatever, and didn't allow them in the house. When she was very young, her mother's opinions colored Kazashi's own.
And then she went to school. Kindergarten was probably where Kazashi started forming her own opinions about them, thanks to meeting the Pokémon of her classmates. Mind, these were patently short meetings (“Kazashi, this is my Growlithe, Bitey”) but she did get to encounter a lot of nice Pokémon that way. It did drive her into the library to learn more, since conversations about them were not the most popular subject at home.
Her time on her uncle Goro's ranch in Cheyenne has been nothing but positive regarding her perceptions of Pokémon. She quickly learned that a lot of what she learned in books does not really apply in real life with the living, breathing creature in front of you, though. It's also firmed up her belief that yes, this IS what she wants to do with her life; while she has no desire to spend the rest of her days in a lab, she wouldn't say no to tramping the roads for SCIENCE.
Personality:
- Scholarly
If there's one thing Kazashi is, she's a thinker. At her heart, she likes the world to make sense. And most of the time, it does. A follows B follows C. (She also has some moments when she likes to fold, spindle, and mutilate logic to achieve her own ends. Some moments.)
However, she has come up hard against the indelible fact that Pokemon, sadly, do NOT follow logic.
“How is the flying squirrel shooting bolts of electricity?” “It just...does, Kazashi.” “THAT IS NOT AN ANSWER!”
That, however, makes them all the more fascinating, and why she really wants to spend her life learning about them. She is going to go through so many diaries on this journey, noting down every last thing about her Pokémon companions, as well as the ones they meet.
Kazashi usually always thinks before she acts....
- Impulsive
...except for the times when she DOESN'T. See the “I'm going to quit school and move in with my uncle!” phase. Sometimes after traveling through points A and B, Kazashi will leap right over the all-important point C and try to move on straight to D. This usually only occurs when something is so emotionally overwhelming at that moment that logic be damned.
Sometimes Kazashi has to be reminded about restraint. Picking up that flame-covered Cyndaquil is probably not the best idea – even though it is extremely cute and probably wouldn't intend on hurting her.
- Adventurous
To Kazashi, the world is just awesome. Boom-de-yada, boom-de yada. Unlike her mother, who is quite happy exploring the world from the safe confines of a lab, Kazashi really has the need to be out in it to learn about it. Thankfully, she usually has a plan in mind before she goes haring off on an adventure...even thought that plan might not be thought out enough for the comfort of some.
Pre-starter information:
Kazashi doesn't have a pre-starter. She is of the firm opinion that in order to get all the experience she needs to have, she needs to start completely fresh with a newly captured Pokémon. That way, the bonds can develop naturally from the get-go, and she can learn (and record, of course) all she can about those bonds and behavior as time goes by.
Goals in Cheyenne: Hopefully, Kazashi will develop into a Pokémon scholar in the field; she'll have so much fun on her journey that the final destination will elude her for a lot longer than she expected. “What do you mean my gap year's up???”

Hiya! Welcome to the forum! You might've missed the mass pm, but I would check the July Updates link in the cbox to find some helpful urls. There's a July Promo that's almost ending, and a few games/events like the Lottery/Caption Contest that could use some participation! Lesse, other than that your app is super flavorful! I love it. She'll be perfect for Cheyenne <3
The Lab is closed for plot reasons, so you'll have to go onto the Ranger Station for a random starter. Have fun with a gamble~
