Nolan glanced warily from side to side at the bushes and trees that outlined the path that led through Route 1, though his vision was obscured by the purple hood that was pulled over his head. His hands were stuffed deep into the pockets of his deep blue jeans, curled into loose fists in an attempt to stay warm. The winter wind cut like a knife though his clothing, but it really didn't help that Nolan didn't dress in layers like most did.
Exactly two feet behind Nolan followed a Swinub, quietly trotting over the worn path behind his Trainer. Neither of them said anything, which was odd since new Trainers usually introduced themselves to their Pokemon before beginning on their journey. Nolan had skipped the formal part of it all and simply granted the Swinub it's name, Izotz.
"Shit," The Arbok Morph thought as a sudden gust of wind caught his hood and blew it back, revealing hair as purple as the hood that was covering it. Nolan's long, muscular tail flicked once, as if it was going to pull the hood back over the boy's head, but made no motion after that. Instead, the Morph tilted his head back and peered at the gray winter sky, where the clouds were so thick that it was surprising the world wasn't covered in darkness right now. "This is the stupidest time of the year to be starting on a journey. How the hell did I get stuck doing this on a day like today?" Nolan though longingly of the Room Key in his pocket, one that granted him a two nights stay in a nice, warm Poke Center.
He couldn't wait to get out off this route.

The chilly winter air blew lightly across the snow covered plains of route 1. There wouldn't be many Pokémon out. Most would probably be hibernating right about now. Only a few of the cold blooded Pokémon would be out. And of course the warm blooded Pokémon that were ether traveling south for the winter or were still gathering food would be out to. Well, this little fella was that case of still needing food for the winter. A black furred dog like Pokémon was out forging for food after the snow had already fallen. It didn't even notice the Arbok morph that was right in front of him. Has appeared!

Nolan nearly stumbled over the Poochyena that had suddenly from the underbrush. Surprisingly the boy hadn't seen the canine-Pokemon sooner, especially since it's fur contrasted sharply with the snow. With a flick of his tail Nolan put his hood back over his face, with the wind catching the fabric it resembled an Arbok with it's hood up, signaling danger. But he didn't mean any harm to the Poochyena, he just wanted to catch it, maybe battle.
Izotz stopped by his Trainer's feet and the fur along his spine bristled, it seemed that he was itching for his first battle. However, he didn't attack yet, he would wait for a signal from his Trainer before doing anything. And it wasn't long before the signal came. Nolan touched Izotz lightly on the back with the tip of his tail, giving him the order to attack.
The Swinub nodded mutely before charging forward at the seemingly oblivious Poochyena with a Tackle attack.

The Poochyena turned just in time to see a brown mass of fur charging right at it. It side stepped and dodged the tackle just barely, its nosed had rubbed against the pokemons fur. The Poochyena, seeing that it was a trainer that commanded the attack it meant it was in a battle. The Poochyena crouched down and ran straight at the Brown blob of fur with a tackle attack.

Nolan didn't like to speak, and hence he didn't give his Pokemon commands unless they were of the utmost importance. He trained his Pokemon in a different way, he let them think for themselves and develop their own techniques. Nolan was fine with this, and so were his Pokemon, it was a win-win situation.
Izotz made a sliding stop, bracing his feet in the slippery snow and hoping for purchase on the surface. Fortunately he received it and abruptly turned around to charge at the Poochyena with another Tackle. Unfortunately it meant that he was taking his opponent head on, and he took a fair amount of damage from the other's attack.

Poochyena met the brown fuzz-blob head on, and tumbled back as they collided, growlinga nd yelping all at once. Stubborn as always, the pooch jumped back up and threw it's head up for a little howl of might that summoned up more strength for himself. Once done, it backed away, and prepared for yet another tackle, hardly even thinking about the other pokemon attack back yet again.

Izotz was also stubborn, but he was more of a strategist than this Poochyena was, obviously. But the heat of the battle was getting to him, and he was pretty sure that the other abilities he had wouldn't help him much in this instance. So, once again, he charged at the wild Pokemon with a tackle, ignoring the fact that the Howl had boosted Poochyena's strength. It didn't really matter though, Izotz was fairly certain that Nolan would want to capture the Pokemon, and it didn't seem fair to capture it when it was fainted.

The attacks from both parties stalemated. This battle was definitely somewhere. The Poocheyena noticed that its Tackle wasn't enough to completely finish the Swinub, so it lowered its head and flashed its many teeth. From the stomach it let out a powerful, attack raising Howl, once again. Hopefully the attack would raise its strenght enough levels to increase Tackle's strenght.

Izotz knew that the wild Pokemon was getting stronger with each howl, but he was going to battle until one of them was finished. With any luck, he would win, and gain a few levels in return. But, the battle wasn't going to get finished if the Swinub just stood there and stared down his opponent. However, before Izotz could make a move, Nolan did.
The Arbok Morph dug into his pocket and gently tossed a regular PokeBall at the Pokemon, intending to capture it.

The pokeball sucked the Pooch into it. It rumbled for a few moments before the pokeball opened up and out materialized the Poochyena, the pokeball that was used was thrown aside wide open and unable to be used again. The catch was a failure. Using this as an advantage the Pooch rushed forward at the Swinub with a fierce tackle attack.

Nolan shrugged off the failed catch, though he was slightly annoyed that it failed. His tail flicked as he watched the Poochyena dash forward with another Tackle, immediately resuming the battle.
Izotz took the attack, skidding backwards on the snow. With a low, throaty growl the Swinub charged forward again, his feet barely able to grip the slippery ground, but he managed. He was beginning to get a little tired now, hopefully this battle would be over soon.

The pooch was hit by the attack and knocked it back. It shook its head and panted a little. It to was battle. It growled once more. "Poochyena!" It barked toward the Swinub. <"This next attack shall decide the battle!"> And with that the Poochyena began to run straight at the Swinub. Its head down, its legs moving as fast as they could take them. It was using the last of its energy to try and take the Cute Brown Ball Of Fur down. The last attack, Tackle!

Izotz began preparing for another Tackle, ready to take the Poochyena head on if he had to, but a tap on the back from Nolan said otherwise.
"Dodge it," The boy ordered, noting that the Poochyena was also at the end of his strength. He was certain that if his Swinub took this attack, he would faint, and the Morph wasn't going to take that chance.
The Swinub nodded and tensed himself, ready to dodge the on coming attack. But the Poochyena was fast, and he clipped Izotz as he passed. Fortunately there wasn't too much damage done, but the Swinub probably wouldn't make it much further.

The Poochyena panted harder as it jumped back. It was on the brink of Knock Out. One more attack and it would be down for the count. The Pooch made a few steps forward before it fell over. Swirls in its eyes as it laid there on the cold snow, waiting for capture if the trainer so chose to catch it.

"Good job," Nolan said as Izotz returned to his side, panting with fatigue. He crouched down and sprayed him with a Potion, knowing that he would need the Swinub to be healthy if they were going to make it through the rest of this Route. As the Morph straightened he cast a glance to the Poochyena, there was no way he was going to leave it laying there on the path, espeically after he'd already wasted one PokeBall because of it. Nolan dug another PokeBall out of his bag, noting that he would need to get more supplies soon, and threw the red and white ball at the Poochyena.

The ball sucked the pooch up into it. It rattled a little but in the end the pooch gave up and let itself be captured.

"Good riddance," Nolan muttered, picking up the PokeBall and clipping it onto his belt alongside Izotz's empty one. "Well, that was definatly interresting." The Morph thought to himself, glancing around the snow that had been trampled in the battle. But Nolan didn't really care that the scenery had been ruined and walked through it to the freshly fallen snow several feet away to begin his walk once again. The newly refreshed Itzotz followed, of course, once again leaping happily through the now.

The air soon filled with the battle cry of a Zangoose and Seviper. The two eternal rivals. The Snake bit into the mongoose like pokemon on the arm while the Zangoose swiped at the snake with its large claws. Though they were eternal rivals they still fought fairly. That meant that the Seviper didn't use any of the poison is it had when killing its actual pray. Interfere with the rivals fights. Or just watch and wait for one to fall and catch the one that wins the fight.

Nolan paused, hearing the grunts of the fighting Pokemon before they actually came into view. The Morph continued walking until they were within his eysight and watched them for a moment, lost in thought. But after a moment he had his choice and bent down to issue his orders to Izotz.
"Tackle the Seviper, I want to catch that Zangoose." Though Nolan was part-snake he didn't really feel obliged to catch the Seviper, the Zangoose would probably more useful to him anyway, and chances were that he could always hunt down another snake if he wanted one.
The Swinub nodded once and charged forward, eager to get into another fight now that he was revived.

At that moment the Zangoose had charged at the Seviper with its claws out. The Seviper moved out of the way of the attack, but that meant Swinub was now in its attacking path. Unable to stop itself in time, the Zangoose just proceeded to charge forward with its claws drawn. It would destroy this Seviper even if it meant hurting a few other Pokemon in the process.
