I warned you What could happen if you should decide To live your life from 9 to 5 And I mourn you For the detail that is left unsaid Is a reminder of the time you bled
A light rain fell from the overcast skies, silently tapping on to the ground before exuding into the soil - it was the only sound to be heard, other than the light, hollow tap of a male's shoes on the now muddy ground. There was a slight breeze, carrying the scent of the musty grasslands and sweet spring blossoms. On the ground, the trainer could make out delicate pink petals that had been blown from their stalks, that now lay muddled with the slushy mire. Deep forest green hair was plastered to the boy's face and neck, reflecting only what was left of the sun's warming rays. A long, gray trench-like vest clung to his back, and his steel-blue jeans hugged wiry legs. Damien had been out in the rain for a little over an hour now; it was only natural that he was soaked to the bone. Mud splashed around him with every step, splattering chocolate brown all over his once white sneakers. Damien's vivid violet eyes seemed to be blended with a dull ash gray. Beside him, a Shinx padded slowly, his own pelt drenched until it was glossy. Katsu was it's name, literally meaning 'victorious' in Japanese. The Electric-type's trainer had once studied the language, but only on a whim - he never got very into it. Katsu was what Damien would call his 'feigned starter', only because it wasn't actually his first pokemon. He'd recieved a Shroomish from one of his old friends, along with a beautiful Jade Vulpix and Dratini from an adoption center. So really, it was his fourth; but already Damien could see it was the most loyal. At this point in his one-hour journey, Damien had two thoughts. One, this was a lot harder than he thought it was, or two, he picked a crappy day to start. Either way, it was too late to turn back now. Turning back and heading home would be shameful. Damien figured he'd had a better start than most others, minus the weather, however. But training was in order. This trainer was not one to get cocky. So he searched for the majority of the morning, until tall grass somehow finding it's way up the cuffs of his jeans and tickling his calfs, and his socks and shoes were swamped in mud and water. Katsu urged him on, so Damien wouldn't quit until he found some sort of battle. After all, it was really the pokemon that would be training, right? Damien didn't really know. All he knew right now is that a hot cocoa might be nice. The male was more determined than that, though. If he couldn't make it for one hour in the rain on Route 1, then he'd never become a Pokemon Master.[/size]

The rain was getting much messier than before, at first seeming to be a constant drizzle that was now turned into giant, messy raindrops. A single drop was enough to send shivers down ones body from how cold it was. Many Pokémon had found shelter in their dens, or less safe shelter in the tree's. As long as there was no lightning, then they would all be safe. Some Pokémon weren't as fortunate from the weather, for right in Damien's view was a Nidoran. From its color, you could assume that it was the female kind, smooth blue skin with short horns. Dark blue spots went across her shaking body as she hid under a tiny leaf for shelter, walking slowly around giant puddles for any kind of haven to stay in. At least until this rain stopped, then she would gladly leave. She let out a tiny sniffle, while cursing in her mind that she was going to get sick now. Ah well, what could one cold do?

The rain was roaring down now, striking the ground with small splashes, continuing to ammount to large puddles. Katsu had to climb atop Damien's shoulders to keep from submerging under the thick mud. Damien himself was up to his mid-calfs in the sludgy soil.
That was when he spotted it. A Nidoran, female by the looks of it - indigo spots and all. How did he know? Again, the books. The male quickly snagged the Pokedex from his poket after fumbling around in the grass and flipped it open. The monotone began.
Number 29, Nidoran female. While it does not prefer to fight, even one drop of the poison it secretes from barbs can be fatal.
The small device beeped once, showing that the data had been properly recorded. The trainer smiled, a determined look turning his face from doubtful to ready. The electric type had already bounded from his shoulder, however, ready to battle. Damien supressed a laugh.
"We don't want to scare her too bad - she just looks like she wants some warmth."
The shinx shrugged in reply. It was poison versus electric - an even matchup; and on top of that, it could be Katsu's first battle. Katsu sprang forward, landing gently on the muddy earth with a 'splat', right before the nidoran.
"Katsu, let it go first," Damien began, trying to be rational. "You don't know if she wants to battle yet. We could score us an easy pokemon if she doesn't."

The Nidoran looked up in surprise, but wasn't threatened by the precense of a Shinx. They tended to be docile until they evolved, at least. Something about this one gave her the impression that he wanted a battle.
The conditions were a bit off, she thought as she kept the leaf above her head. What was there to lose? She saw a trainer nearby, not to far off from where the Shinx came out of. It wouldn't be too bad, plus the excersize would do her some good. To much Winter flab made a girl unattractive...
Using her stubby tail, she wagged it a couple of times to appear much cuter than before. Harmless, or faking to be, with her Tail Whip so that the Shinx's defenses would be lowered. She gave an innocent look his direction, but wasn't going to do much else until Katsu made his move.

The shinx groaned, feeling some of it's precious defenses fade away into nothingness. He whipped his head back to Damien to see what he said about it. The trainer, however, merely shrugged. He obviously didn't think that the status attack did much. Katsu sighed - those books didn't teach much, did they?
Damien, a few yards away, racked his brain for an imaginative move or devastating attack. It was raining outside. That meant everything was soaked in water. Water was a conductor, right? With that single thought, everything snapped into place.
"Katsu," he cried firmly. "Spark, now!"
He assumed that because the opposer was drenched, Katsu wouldn't have to hit right on; the electricity would travel through the water to the body. If that theory failed, Damien knew that if it hit, it would deliver a strong shock to it's whole dripping body.
Katsu obliged willingly, the same idea in mind. With a not-so menacing snarl, it one again lept forward and sent out a bright yellow wave of electricity towards the poison-type.

The Sparks from the psysical part of the attack did no good, for the Nidoran dodged until she landed in a puddle of water and mud. Mixed together, and making her brain scream about the situation she was in. An electric attack with all of this water, however, something had to happen. Sure enough, several of those sparks crept into the pool she fell in, and began shocking her, until she shook it off.
<Ugh....This better be worth it.> She muttered as she climbed out of her pit, water dripping off her body faster than ever as she charged after the Shinx with a bold Tackle.

Damien smirked victioriously, but the look was soon wiped from his face as he watched Katsu narrowly avoid the tackle. The shinx hit the ground with yet another splash, sending mud flying. The electric type rubbed at it's eyes angerly, trying to get the dirt out of it's face, the rain just turning the soil to almost a liquid state, allowing it to run all over his body and into his nose and mouth.
Meanwhile, the boy was standing a few yards back, crouching down in the grass. He cheered on his comrade in vain, watching as Katsu twirled through the dirt, paws flailing wildly at the mud that was caking onto it's sheek black and blue fur.
+Dangit,+ the pokemon muttered, finally able to stagger to it's feet. Katsu pounced with the grace of a cat towards the Nidoran, teeth bared and throat rumbling with a small cry. Damien watched in horror as Katsu began to use Bite, knowing that the Nidoran's Poison Body could easily poison his starter without wasting a turn. Damien readied a pokeball in his hands, clutching the slippery metal sphere so hard his knuckles turned white. Could he catch the Nidoran yet? Probably not, but it was good to be prepared.

The Nidoran smiled and laughed at the Shinx. <Stupid!> she said though her laughter. She wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes and looked at her enemy again, seeing him come in for a Bite attack. She turned around and smacked her butt, taughing him to come and get some poison. She was hit by the attack, and used Scratch as the Shinx attacked her.

Katsu winced, turning circles in the air as he flew back from the Nidoran, a smirk on his face. The Scratch had bore a gash from his right shoulder to the knee, but it wasn't deep; not much damage at all.
+ You seem to be all talk, miss + the shinx commented slyly.
Damien was simply watching in dumbfounded astonishment. The pokemon knew more than he did... wasn't the trainer supposed to do the commanding? At this point, the boy couldn't be sure. Again, he squeazed the steel sphere in his hand, for no apparent reason other than it was out of nervous habit. Weakly, he called out, "Katsu! Use Spark, quick!"
In reply, the shinx nodded firmly. He knew that this opposer was quick on the counterattack, but if he could just get to her underbelly - that seemed to be a critical point in most pokemon. Katsu bounded forward, surrounded in wild sparks, zig-zagging towards the Nidoran.

Nidoran stuck her tounge out at Katsu and said <Whatever, Sparky.> She used Growl at the Pokemon, narrowing her eyes at him. She jumped into the air and onto Katsu's head, taking damage from the attack and jumping off. She then looked back at him to see if he was poisoned yet.

Katsu snarled, and Damien gasped, wondering if the poison type had taken any considerable damage yet - it sure didn't look like it. The ran hadn't yet let up, it struck his face mercilessly, even harder than before now that the wind had picked up.
Poison rocked the shinx's body, but he refused to let anyone see his pain.
+ That was a decent move, the electric type commented. + But it will take more than sass to bring my trainer and I down. +
Damien's eyes narrowed, wishing more than anything he could understand what the two pokemon were saying. Chills radiated through his body, and the boy wrapped his arms tightly around his torso, pokeball in hand. He began to see how this pokemon fought - all he needed was for the shinx to be cooperative. Katsu had the advantage of speed from his nature, and Intimidate should've taken away some of the opposer's attack stat.
Damien could see through Katsu's efforts to conceal his poisoning, noting that he probably couldn't take a lot more. True, Katsu hadn't taken much other damage, but the venom would take him out in a fair ammount of turns. On the other hand, his shinx's Spark attack had around a 30% chance of inflicting paralysis. If they could manage to paralyze the Nidoran, it'd be all over.
"Spark, again," Damien roared over the sound of the rain.

The Shinx was turning out to be more of a hassle than the Nidoran thought he would be, funny how he wasn't poisoned yet. Unless he was just bluffing through it, she thought with narrow eyes. The Pokémon she was thinking about was already coming in with another of his Spark attacks, looking more than ready to knock her out of the battle. Katsu and his Spark attack hit her, the electric sensations painfully covering her body before they went away with the Shinx.
'Hah! I'd never go down that easily.' She thought, with a hint of stubbornness as she let out a loud Growl. Though one wouldn't be able to guess that she was making any sound over the pounding of the rain. Then, feeling much more daring, she ran after the Electric type with her claws barred for a nasty Scratch.

Katsu swayed back and forth, the poison pulsing through his veins like liquid fire. The shinx almost didn't see the Nidoran bounding towards himself until her muted cry reached his royal blue ears. The electric type cringed at the sound, blindly jumping up, the poison-type's claws grazing it's underbelly.
Damien sighed, shaking his head. It wasn't that he was disappointed, he just felt a bit idiotic. He wasn't even sure who was winning; Nidoran had taken more damage, but Katsu was poisoned. Spark was his strongest attack, but they'd been using it so much - it didn't seem right to use it over and over like this. But, they had to go for that paralysis. A 30% chance was better than a 0% chance that came with all the rest of Katsu's techniques. So once again, Damien called out for the pokemon to use Spark, and once again it complied.
However, this time, Damien was to use it as a decoy move. The Nidoran knew now how to dodge the attack, the male knew. So he commanded that Katsu recoil with a Bite.

Of course, the Nidoran managed to jump away from the Spark attack. While thinking that this battle was going to be over, very very soon. Well, when she realized that she fell into a trap she began to panic. The Bite attack reaching at neck very very quickly, leaving her to get dragged into the mud.
Squirming around a bit to try and break free of Katsu's grip, the poison type was finding it to be harder and harder. She began to claw at the mud to get a stronger grip and try to pull away, but that wasn't getting her anywhere. Instead she tried to let out a Growl at close range, to lessen the damage.

The trainer almost lept for joy at how wonderfully the combo worked. Instead, he laughed, narrowing his eyes and quickly thinking of what to do next.
Katsu hung on the Nidoran with it's teeth like a leech, it's claws raking at it's arms and chest, life points slowly fading away from both. A loud growl once again rang out through the grassy area, and the venom blazed through the electric-types veins. Katsu cringed away, a fierce snarl ripping through it's maw.
Damien saw this as his chance. With all his strength, the boy chucked the gleaming red and white metallic sphere towards the Nidoran. He watched in a sort of awe as it twirled through the air, zoning in on the poison-type like a bullet from a gun. His shinx lept back to his trainer's side to watch in suspense whether or not he'd caught his very first Pokémon in the fields of Route 1.

Though not knocked out, the Nidoran was certainly weak enough to have trouble finding its way out of the red and white shpere. Absorbed and forced into a place of darkness, the poison type meekly examined her surroundings. Would she choose to stay in a place like this? If she did, she only hoped that the Shinx wouldn't hate her for attacking him the way she did. Well, she supposed it could be a forgive and forget situation, so with a sigh she allowed Damien the pleasure of catching his first Pokemon. Katsu gains a level, and you have caught a Nidoran! Yay~

{ Aw, I'm sorry. D: I guess we could have another or something. *shrug* You be da modness.
Do you have a character at or around Damien's level? If so, then maybeeeee. I dunno. :3 }
The pokeball flew back to Damien's hand, narrowly avoiding hitting him square in the nose. He paused for a second, wide eyed and shocked. After a moment or two, the trainer cryed for joy, leaping up through the mud with a sucking sound and splashing dirt all over.
I caught my own pokemon~
His rejoicing continued until a muffled whine escaped Katu's lips. He was still poisoned. The boy rushed to his side, panicing and fumbling around for a potion or something of the sort. However, it just struck him that a potion wouldn't cure Katsu's poisoning, so he gave up groping around in his pockets and took the shinx in his arms. The boy looked down at Katsu, who gave nothing more than a small nod of thanks. It broke his heart to see his pokemon so hurt on their first battle, but Damien was to be strong. He stood up, shinx in arms, and tossed another pokeball into the air. From it materialized a crystalline blue serpentine creature, whose scales gleamed faintly even in the rain.

ooc: Nah, don't worry about it. It doesn't matter now. =3 Soaked feathers shown from behind one of the nearby Pine tree's, the branches making a ncie shelter for the many birds that sheltered them from the rain. The only problem for this one in particular was that it wasn't the best camoflague, and that the needles poked it in its sleep. The bird looked aggrivated, and tired from the lack of it. How long would this storm last, and when would it be able to fly out to a nicer tree? Another side to this blue flying type's nature told it firmly that it could move out now, and not have to wait. "Taillow...Ta ta." <Well, worth a shot.> He grumbled, shaking the drops of water off of his slim body. The Taillow shot out of the tree, like a mini jet as it flew out. The rain got into its eyes and at one point it found it impossible to keep its eyes open from the stinging water, and crashed into Damien.

"What the-"
Damien yelped, falling to the mud with yet another splash, Katsu flying from his arms. Kasis, on the other hand, watched in amusement, before slithering to the electric-type's side to comfort the poisoned shinx.
The taillow was then thrown from his chest, and Damien leaped up, wiping mire from his shirt and trench vest. He resisted the urge to curse as he bolted back towards the dratini and shinx, scooping the latter up into his arms, and the former following in suit as he walked back towards the flying-type.
The trainer frowned at the bird, and nothing more. Katsu sighed in pain, and Kasis did nothing but stare blankly. Then Damien looked down at the dragon-type hopefully.
"Show me what you can do, my dragon," he said softly. "Thunder Wave, now!"
Kasis nodded obediently, and sprang forward towards the taillow like a viper, it's long body enveloped in small static sparks.

The Tailow winced in pain as he was hit by the attack. He tried to attack, but his body froze and he stood in place. <YOU SHALL PAY YOU VILE DRAGON!> Tailow said, trying to move. He eventually was able to move and used Peck on Kasis angerly.
