Mercury Nagumo -- Tap, scuff, squish, tap, squelch
The only sounds to be heard throughout the graveyard - the eerie noise of a girl's shoes gently tapping against the earth and cobblestone in the dead of night. It was a hollow noise, ominous and lonely. Darkness consumed the area, blanketing the graveyard in baleful quiet.
There was a musty scent to the dense air that seemed to press up against the ashen skin of the girl and cloak her in inconspicuous fear. The dirt below her feet was damp, and stuck fast to the soles of her moss-green shoes. Inky black eyes scanned the scene before her, but even with her sharp vision, the girl couldn't make out much more than the relative figure of objects around her. Branches twisted and turned menacingly around each other, and headstones were just waiting to trip her up.
The 'morph was little more than twelve years of age, so one might wonder why she would be out so late, in such a frightening place. Mercury was a new trainer, but she knew exactly what she wanted. A dark or ghost type - exactly what one might expect to find in a graveyard such as the one she happened to be groping around in at the moment. There was one pokemon she was looking for in particular, but she knew very well that the chances of finding such a creature were extremely rare. A Spiritomb was what the girl was after.
The shedinja 'morph scratched at the end of one of her leathery wings and scanned the area for the umpteenth time. It was rather hopeless, really; not a single thing could be seen clearly, and Mercury couldn't sense the presence of anything truly alive. Of course, ghosts weren't alive, but that didn't really matter because Mercury couldn't really sense a presence of any sort at all.
In her hand, Mercury grasped a pokeball, it's luminious metal covering seemingly dull on the starless night. Inside it was a Charmander, Kohaku; the trainer's first pokemon. Adrenaline pulsed like fire through her veins, and she clenched the sphere even harder until her already pale knuckles were white.
It will be mine.

An eerie silence filled the Graveyard. If there were any Pokémon here, then they must have been watching Mercury. Silently spying on the girl from their shadow covered hiding places. The only thing that stood out from all of the gray and gloom was a tiny bird that was perched upon one of the tombstones. Its short and wild green feathers was an indication that it was a real Natu. For it was so motionless upon the rock, that if it was gray then it would look like stone itself. The eyes it held were almond shaped, and tiny wings rested upon its sides. The stare it held on the Pokemorph was focused, and unwilling to move away. With every movement the girl made, its eyes trailed the path she walked. A velvet red feather stood out on the top of its forehead, psychic energy radiated off of this feather as it kept its guard up. Though it was too young to know any Psychic attacks, there was nothing wrong with practicing its ability. Just getting a feel for those types of moves was hard enough as it is. ((Mercury obviously doesn't want a Spiritomb anyways. Its not on her Dream Team. Obviously. ))

THWAK.
The 'morph toppled over into a clumsy heap at the base of a large headstone, one taller than herself. She rubbed her head, irritated; how had she not seen that? Warm blood oozed onto her fingers, and she clutched her skull tightly. Sounds immediately became louder as the sound of Mercury's walking fell silent. Things moving around, closer and closer until she couldn't stand it any longer. The girl let out a small cry, feverishly scanning the area with her murky gray eyes.
During her fall, the pokeball she'd been grasping so tightly went flying out of her hands, crashing to the ground and releasing it's contents in a blur of bright red light. The sphere flew back to Mercury's side, and in it's place stood a charmander, Kohaku. It was an eerie sight to be sure, for it's tail and eyes gave off the only light to be found in the whole graveyard. The fire-type gave a low growl, bounding to it's new trainer's side.
+ You idiot, + he hissed, wiping a small drop of blood from Mercury's wrist.
In that moment, they both sensed something. A presence; both whipped their heads around to confirm the thoughts. Before them stood a natu, purple light eminating from it's head feather. Mercury's eyes narrowed, a smirk forming on her lips. Kohaku flashed a sly grin in the bird's direction. They both waited in unison to see what the small psychic-type had in store for the duo. The small flame at the end of his tail crackled softly, his eyes ablaze.
ooc || It's not for her Dream Team. :3 It's for something else. Not for Gyms or anything. Just something else.

The two were much closer than the Natu had wanted them to be. Normally it was fine with such things, but the sight of blood made it queasy. Being a timid Pokemon by nature, and because it was common for their species, it couldn't help but jump off of its perch.
Landing with a soft thud onto a pile of dry dirt, sending dust flying everywhere. The Natu released the energy that it had been preparing earlier, though it wasn't with Psychic energy. Night Shade, a Ghost type move was released at the Charmander upon impulse.

The bird pokemon was obviously scared, and the charmander saw this as an advantage. Quickly, the fire-type braced itself for impact, knowing evasion was useless against the 100% accuracy attack. The dark energy rammed into the pokemon, throwing it back slightly. However, it's power was not very intense, for the natu's level was not much higher than his own.
"C'mon, Kohaku, Scratch," the trainer commanded sharply, the fear of things unseen now forced to the back of her mind.
Kohaku nodded swiftly, running forward with it's claws outstretched, smirking at the timid psychic-type.

Remaining silent through the battle, the Natu's feathers bristled with agitation now that the Charmander was running to attack it. It didn't expect to make a fight out of the whole thing, but it was too late now to try and talk the Fire type out of it. All it could do was endure the sharp claws that hit its body.
They were near the same level, thank goodness. Though the claws hurt, it could tell that Kohaku wasn't well trained. The points felt slightly dull against its body, not able to draw blood from the first strike. That proved that it had a decent chance of getting out of this, maybe even win.
Using its intimidating eyes to try and scare off the fire lizard one last time, its almond eyes started to radiate a golden orange color. Using Leer to lower the Charmander's defenses, weaken it without directly attacking it. If this didn't work, then by all means it would go all out.
(( Night Shade can be dodged. Just not as likely as other attacks. ^^'
I have a theory about it, but I'd bore you. I mean, if Ash's Pikachu on the TV show can dodge a Swift attack... >.< ))

Kohaku shrugged off the Leer, his's cerulean blue eyes just as bright and luminescent as it's opponent's amber ones. His tail lashed back and forth, sending small embers flying. His trainer raised an ashen hand to protect her eyes, the other still fastened to her forehead, blood beginning to dry onto her fingers.
+ C'mon now, play like you mean it. + The charmander's menacing hiss sliced through the chilling midnight air like a hot knife through butter. A gust rocked the fire-type's body with cold, and a haunting snarl ripped through it's mouth.
The 'morph was slightly shocked at her starter's intimidating behavior. Never before had she seen anyone's pokemon act so terrifyingly.... terrifying. She would not show her alarm at her pokemon's conduct, however.
"Kohaku, Scratch again," she called bitterly, inwardly wanting nothing more than to catch the pokemon and leave the haunted graveyard.
ooc || *shrug* I guess you're right.

Appearing as motionless as before, the Natu only stood still until the coloring in its eyes faded away to a blank white. The pupils standing perfectly still as it secretly felt annoyed at the Charmander's comments.
That was the only gift that the Natu enjoyed possessing right now, the ability to not reveal its emotions. Except that it already showed its fear by becoming startled in the first place. It was still sore about that, but it would have to move on. Despite its looks, the tiny bird was a very good 'hopper'. With its tiny wings, it wasn't able to fly. It could hop away, while using the wings to help support its light weight.
Using that ability, it was able to dodge the Charmander's claws with ease. It was time to get serious, and it was going to start acting serious, despite all of the Fire type's taunts. Turning around, a cloud of dust floated behind it from its sudden movement. Now it was charging forward with its golden beak in front. Preparing to attack Kohaku with its Peck, and hopefully make it know just how formidable of an opponent it could be.

Laughter; taunting laughter. It came as easily from the charmander's jaw as it's earlier jeers, but underneath it all the fire-type knew it was no time to fool around. This natu was probably a lot stronger than itself, but Kohaku refused to let that be seen.
After the Leer, the charmander knew the bird's Peck attack wouldn't be nothing to worry about. With every last ounce of speed it could possibly muster at any given moment, Kohaku bounded out of the way of it's fierce beak; or at least, as far away as he could manage. The natu's beak collided with the fire-type's left foot, opening up a large gash. Blood trickled down it's toes onto the psychic-type's head, and Kohaku landed on the damp, musty ground with a small crash.
Mercury sighed. "Walk it off, Kohaku." She knew inside that with such a small move pool that attack variety would be impossible; her charmander only knew two moves. It was slightly infuriating. "Growl, like you mean it!"
The fire-type was happy to comply, and a maniacal roar escaped it's orange jaws. In Mercury's arms, an egg rocked back and forth. Her dull steely eyes widened, and she wrapped her arms tighter around the spotted shell.

At the sight of blood, the Natu flinched for several moments. Stopping in its agressive Peck attacks to stare at the Charmander's injured foot. Blood, blood, the thing was injured. It had caused such an injury, was it an evil Pokemon? It didn't mean to hurt it so badlym and now it was angry. At least, that's how the Natu took it as the Charmander used a vicious sounding Growl attack.
Its own Attack power significantly lowered, and it shuddered at its loss of strength. Thinking of using an attack that didn't rely on attacking one's psychical body, it used Night Shade. Sending a ghastly energy over to Kohaku, using its own level to hurt the Fire type.

A malicious look lit up the chamander's azure eyes as it dodged the ghastly energy, watching in pleasure as the natu writhed in fear. Upon landing, however, Kohaku again crashed to the earth, wincing in pain. Battle would be difficult, but it would not stop his firey spirit.
+ Are you scared now? + The charmander's voice was low and dangerous in spite of his position on the ground. Slowly, he rose, all weight on his right foot.
The 'morph's eyes narrowed in concentration, hugging the egg tighter to her chest. Kohaku was obviously slowing down, and his last dodge was completely lucky; it probably wouldn't happen again. This natu needed to come down now.
"Kohaku, scratch; all out," Mercury cried.
Bright orange claws streaked through the air as Kohaku made his way towards the Natu. He ran through the pain, knowing full well that a counterattack would be almost impossible to dodge in his condition. The fire-type's claws were flung back behind him, then forward with all the force he could seize at the psychic-type.

Sensing more weakness from its opponent, the Natu felt more confident than before. Its own troubles over the sight of blood has been temporarily lost as its competetive spirit began to take over. It wasn't a life or death situation, for it knew how to control its attacks. The ones it knew, anyway.
Various claw marks began to form on the Natu's body, on the sides, and a nasty gash came on its right wing. It was clearly out of desperation, it didn't need to be a Psychic type to figure that out. Due to the close contact of the Scratch attack, the Natu made a bold hop forward to get even closer to Kohaku for one giant Peck attack.

The vicious beak jabbed into the charmander's stomach, forcing a cry of rage from his throat. Blood flew from both the point of impact and his maw, but it would not stop a smirk from forming on Kohaku's mouth. Forget about the fire-type's condition for a moment and you would see that the psychic wasn't doing very well either. Scrapes and lesions covered it's small body, and the last of it's fear was still visible in the natu's eyes.
+ Do not get cocky, Kohaku warned, malevolence and hatred ablaze in his cerulean eyes.
The egg in Mercury's lap shuddered once more, but no noise could be heard from inside over the sound of the battle. Mercury frowned, observing and noting the damage both pokemon had taken. If Kohaku couldn't pull ahead soon, a potion might be called for.
The gash on the charmander's foot was beginning to scab over, stopping the flow of blood. It's tang wafted through the air, filling the pokemon's nostrils as it began to pant.
+ Do not take me lightly, he jeered coldly, rushing forward for another Scratch upon his trainer's command.

<You talk too much.> The Natu finally hissed to the Charmander, trying to turn off these insults, these vows about how 'good' he was. Everything was beginning yo annoy the Natu, patient Psychic type or not there was a limit to everything.
This Scratch seemed to hurt a little less than the previous one, but it couldn't tell in the battered state that it was reduced to. The force of impact swept it away to the side, grunting as it got up. A tired look existed in its eyes, meaning that it probably wouldn't use a Peck attack in a while. Repeating its actions from the beginning of the battle, it used another Night Shade on Kohaku.

+ Do I now? + Kohaku laughed at this. Mercury rolled her eyes, loosening her grip on the egg when it began to shake once more.
The battle would be over soon, and the charmander knew he would probably lose. He also knew that this was a fight to the death; or rather, faint. It wasn't over until it was over. Kohaku dropped to the ground, the ghastly Night Shade's energy missing him narrowly. The fire-type staggered to get up, swaying back and forth as he rushed forward with another Scratch.
Meanwhile, the 'morph withdrew an empty pokeball, it's metal shell cold in her hands. She would need it for the capture, but that wasn't until a little later.

Patient Natu had been ready for the impact of Charmander's razor-sharp claws. What it hadn't counted on was the ferocity with which Charmander would attack. It could feel them sinking in deeper than normal, narrowly missing the psychic bird's beating heart. Droplets of blood seeped out of the fresh wound, both exciting and exhausting Natu.
<Unexpected victories are often the most meaningless... You're not as strong as you think you are...> It's final words were clear through the eerie silence of the graveyard. It staggered backwards a few paces, and fell on it's side.
Natu has fainted! Charmander has gained 1 level! To attempt a capture, toss a pokeball! Or move on and leave it behind.

+ But this was not unexpected. And you, my friend, lay fainted at my feet. +
Kohaku smirked, wiping droplets of the natu's blood out of his eyes. He felt stronger already, but the psychic-type's words haunted him. They wouldn't leave his mind, leaving the charmander torn inside. The fire-type sat down, clutching his left foot in hand. The wound he had recieved would surely scar.
Mercury threw the pokeball forward with all her might towards the natu, and raced over to her charmader's side, egg thrust under arm.
"You did very well," she said, little emotion in her voice. The 'morph wasn't ever big on huge compliments, and the charmander understood. Together they watched anxiously to see if they had made their first catch of the journey. In the meantime, however, Mercury withdrew a Rare Candy and handed it to her starter, who in turn ate it quickly.
"One more level would put you at level 7," she mused to herself, "Meaning you'd learn Ember - a useful fire attack."

The red and white orb shook violently. Natu, even in it's fainted state, did not want to be owned by anybody. However the power of the pokeball prevailed over Natu's will, and after several agonizing minutes, lay still next to a broken tomb stone.

Mercury grabbed the pokeball with a smirk and stood up, surveying her surroundings. It was still as dark as ever, and now the heavy scent of blood poisoned the air. The 'morph slipped her egg into her bag and began to walk forward; much more alert now after running into a tombstone.
Spiritomb, spiritomb. Where are you....
Kohaku was so energetic no one would have believed he had just fought a battle. The charmander was zig-zagging around in front of his trainer, searching feverishly for another pokemon. He knew very well that Mercury was looking for a Spiritomb and wouldn't leave until she found one, so the fire-type got to work.
+ We will find you... +

The Graveyard went into a still phase, unlike a few minutes ago when the wind was blowing clouds of dust everywhere. Now it was completely still, except for the sounds of Mercury and Kohaku searching for a Spiritomb. Of course, there had to be Pokémon living here. Or else no trainers would dare travel in this particular area.
A transparent ball of gas began to rise up from the ground. Looking as it it came out of nowhere, and the ghostly aura that began to color its gaseous body. A pair of white and black eyes formed, and then a mouth with two fangs striking out. Staying in its half invisible form, only the silhouette shown and the shadows on the ground, it floated near the Charmander.
<Your looking for someone?> It asked in a deep voice, male from what a Pokémon could tell. For a human it would be difficult, but for a Pokemorph...Possibly. Though its intentions were good, it could be perceived as anything.
