Kahlia looked around, wondering if she should just go on, or wait a few more days. She was getting anxious waiting for her postcard, but it never came. She was supposed to get it over a week ago, like her best friend had, but she didn't. Maybe she wasn't meant to be a trainer? Though she didn't know the answer to this, she hoped that she wouldn't get into trouble for just showing up at the lab.
Kahlia stood up from her house steps, hesitated a few seconds, then started walking. She wondered if Bella or Chad, her mother's helper Pokemon, had taken the postcard and done away with it. Whatever was the reason, she couldn't do anything about it now. She knew that the lab had once Growlithes as starter Pokemon, and she hoped there was at least one left. If not, she would just have to look. She knew she was going to get a fire type, but she had no idea what they would be.
When she reached the lab, she was again hesitant, and debated on knocking or returning home. She sighed, getting a little discouraged, then took her chances. Knocking a little bit softly three times, she glanced around nervously while she waited to be greeted.

Marissa was cleaning the floors, the swish of the broom and the music of her Ipod only made the knocking light and distant. Yet it was able to stop Marissa from her work, she turn of her 'pod. Then turned her eyes to her Shaymin and the Pichu on her shoulder, who happily nibbled on a carrot, "Hear that?" Both nodded.
Thats when Marissa opened the door, she was kicking again and not some dead zombie that wanted brains but didnt know how to move. "Oh, welcome to the Pokémon Lab," Marissa smiled and Volt, her Pichu, waved from her shoulder. "You're hear for a Pokemon, yes? Need a list?" Marissa reached into her pocket and pulled out a list, the Growlithe image and information with a large black 'X' and a note saying it was out-of-stock.
"See anything you like?"

Kahlia smiled when the woman answered the door. "Hi," she said. When she was given a list, she immediately directed her attention to the fire types, and saw that the Growlithe had been marked off. She sighed sadly, knowing that she would just havve to try to find one when she started her journey, if it was possible. Where did they hide, anyway? She saw the Torchic and Slugma, and debated on which one she should get. "Can I see the Torchic, please?" Kahlia asked. She offered the list back to Marissa, and smiled at the Pichu on her shoulder, then waited anxiously to see her prospective first pokemon.

Marissa watched as the prospective trainer's eyes flitted towards the Growlithe straight away, and visable disspointment was seen in her eyes. Marissa felt a pang of emotion towards the trainer. She had really been excited about that Growlithe.
They were great partners, and apparently everyone had heard that. So within days, all of their Growlithes were gone. Marissa was unsure if they were going to keep breeding them or introduce a new breed. The demand was quite high, so it all depended on if they could meet that demand.
Upon noticing the trainer's request, Marissa nodded happily, "Sure! Hold on a moment." she said, before heading into a backroom and grabbing a Torchic ball and heading back to the trainer. Pressing the small button on the front of the orb, the pokemon was unvealed in the flash of a red light.
"Torchic! Torch!" the pokemon chirped happily, pleased to be out from the ball. The small chick-like pokemon fluttered her tiny wings, and stared up at the trainer with curious eyes.

Kahlia tried to grin through her disappointment while Marissa went to get the Torchic. When she came back and let the fire bird out of its ball, Kahlia gasped at its beauty. She bent down to get a closer look at the Pokémon she might get, and introduced herself. "Hi, Torchic. I'm Kahlia. Want to come with me?" Kahlia smiled, forgetting her hopes of having a Growlithe as she grew more and more admired to the Torchic.

"Ah, Marissa. I see you've beaten me to the new trainer. That Torchic would be a good choice as a first Pokémon." An elderly voice crackled out of her wrinkled throat as her purple high heels clinked into the room. Her eyes were narrow, as if they squinted by nature, with a barely noticeable hint of blue among the patches of grey. She held her check list in her hands, marking off another potential Starter Pokémon in order to keep track of everything.
"Oh, it seems you're missing a Starter Pack." She frowned at the assistant's negligence, and walked right up to her personal desk, rummaging through the drawers, and pulling out a starter pack. It was a loose backpack, that could easily hold a lot more than one would think.
"Is Torchic your final choice? I have it's information right here." She grabbed a sticky note from the desk and slapped it on there as a reminder for the new trainer, handing it to Kahlia. She motioned to Marissa to hand her the Pokeball, and quickly gave it to Kahlia.
Starter Kit
A starter pack is handed to you, along with a flimsy piece of paper that is attatched to it's surface. On it, are the stats of the Torchic in a messy, hard to read handwriting. You'd be better looking every thing up on your Pokedex.
Level: 5 Ability: {Blaze} Attacks: Scratch, Growl, Agility
Pokéballs x3
Healing Potions x3
Pokédoll x1
Pokédex x1
Room Key for the Poké Center
Ribbon Case

"Yes, I'd like the Torchic. She's so beautiful." Kahlia smiled at the professor, and thanked her for the starter pack and the Pokemon. Throwing the back pack over her shoulder, she decided to let the Torchic walk, instead of being trapped inside the pokeball. "Come on, Torchic, let's go." She gestured to her new pokemon, then waved to the professor as she reached for the handle of the door to leave. "Bye, and thanks again!" Kahlia opened the door and let the Torchic walk out first, then shut the door behind her. Bending down on her knees, she patted the Torchic's head, and before setting off for her adventure, she commented, "We have to think of a name for you. Do you like Trina? Or Flare? Naming is harder than I thought. Oh! How about Carrie? I like that name, Carrie. Do you?" Torchic jumped and chirped, and Kahlia figured that Torchic also liked the name Carrie. "Alright, Carrie it is." Kahlia picked Carrie up and headed toward Route 1, where she was sure to meet lots of new pokemon and have many adventures. She couldn't wait!
