Ariadne sighed happily, still carrying the red and white orb in her hands. She stared into its reflective surface in an almost lovesick manner, paying no attention to where she was going.
“So, you’re a little male Electrike, aren’t you? I bet you’re a cutie. I wonder what I’ll name you.” She cooed at the Pokémon inside the ball, smiling softly. She stopped abruptly as a thought entered her mind. She should probably see the Pokémon before naming it. That was customary, right? She let out a muted moan; not even five minutes into her journey, and she had already made a mistake. “C’mon on out, mister.” She called, tossing the poke ball.
In a flash of red light, the lightning Pokémon materialized, blinking slightly as it glanced around its surroundings. Ari had to bite her lip in order to hold back her squeal. It was so cute! And her favorite color, too.
“Hello, little dear.” She cooed, kneeling down. “My name is Ari, and I’ll be your trainer from now on!” She smiled brightly. She faltered. “Er… Is it normal to be talking to a Pokémon like this?” She paused a moment, seeming to be seriously contemplating this.
The small green Pokémon could only stare hopelessly at the girl before him. Had the Professor seriously stuck him with such a ditz of a girl? And such a childish one, too! Not to mention, she was already calling herself a trainer, and she hadn’t even caught a single Pokémon! Hell, she hadn’t even named him yet. He growled lowly, effectively cutting off her thought process.
Ari blinked, not expecting to be interrupted. She smiled at the irate Pokémon. “That’s right! We need a name for you, little one.” She unhesitatingly brought her hand above the Pokémon’s head to scratch behind its ear, receiving a nip in the process. She frowned. “Feisty, aren’t you? Well, I suppose that’s to be expected.” She stared at the pokemon, the little creature staring right back.
“I don’t suppose you’d take kindly to the name Spike, would you?” She finally said, getting a sharp ‘yip’ and a glare for her joke. “I know, I know.” She sighed. “Well, what kind of name do you want?” The Electrike immediately started yipping; apparently believing the teenager could understand him.
‘…And make sure it sounds fierce! Like Killer, or Crusher! And don’t you dare nickname me something “cutesy,” you stupid girl, or I will attack you until you faint, and you will be my pet, you hear me? Another thing- I refuse to be called something related to my color or size! No, it is not clever. It is not cute. It is just ridiculous. Furthermore…’ The Electrike was cut short in his ranting by a single finger placed in front of his mouth and a sigh.
“This isn’t gonna work.” Ari muttered, ignoring the look the little Pokémon was giving her. “Look, let’s just name you… Thor or something.” She finally snapped, previous good mood vanishing. “That’s apparently some God of Lightning or something.” The small Pokémon gave her a look. ‘More original, please.’ He said, rolling his eyes. This time, Ari got the message. “How about Bronte, then?” She suggested. The small Pokémon deliberated. He let out a small sigh and a grudging nod. ‘Crusher would have been more fitting, but I guess I must take what I can get.’ He conceded. Ari smiled at him.
“Since we finally got that settled, can I pet you now?” She asked hopefully. Bronte gave her a withering glare. Ari deflated. “Guess not…”

::starly::
Harmless as a Butterfree, a black crested Starly gazed at the peaceful morning. The gentle mist from the preceding morning's rain had settled in with the grass and the leaves quite nicely, making them sparkle like little crystals on each branch. His twisted claws wrapped themselves around his perch as if they were snakes, his content sigh seemed to wash away his reluctance to face the new day with a bright smile.
<Ahhhh...Feel that fresh air! It might be too fresh, actually. Kinda cold.> He shivered, ruffling up his feathers to make himself look ungroomed and unkempt, but it kept him warm. He tilted his head when he noticed a trainer and her Electrike, debating over some trivial thing. With a curious expression plastered on his face, an idea quickly popped right into his head.
<Hello there! Would you two care for a battle? A little excersize to start the day never hurt anyone.> He called from his branch, waving a wing to catch the girl's attention.

ooc// Um. One thing I never understood is that in some of the posts, the trainers could understand their Pokémon...? I didn't really get that. D: Is it true?
bic;/
The Starly's cheery call and wave caught the dark-haired girl's attention. "Hey, Bronte, look!" She said excitedly to her pokemon, pointing to the flying type. "Hey there, fella!" She said with a grin. Bronte sighed irritably.
'Girl, listen to me, for I will only say this once. That is a Pokémon. You are a trainer. When a trainer sees a wild pokemon, they often battle said Pokémon with their own. Get it?' Bronte snapped at his mistress, only for the rant to have no effect on the girl.
"Hey, I know! Let's have a battle!" Bronte wanted to scream at that point, but he settled for a sharp nip on Ari's heels. She frowned and straightened up, trying to be serious. "Okay Bronte, let's do it!" The small Pokémon rolled his eyes, assuming an offensive position. 'Finally...'

OOC: Actually. They shouldn't. I don't really understand why so many Trainers can magically understand their Pokemon all of a sudden...But it shouldn't be like that. XP I don't even agree with Pokemorphs understanding Pokemon. Because srsly. If your African, that doesn't mean you automatically speak an African language. blah. [/endrant]
BIC:
The Starly was pleased with the trainer’s reply. Her opinion mattered more than that silly Electrike’s of hers. He could care less of whatever he said or did. She couldn’t even understand them for pete’s sake. Actually, he wasn’t quite sure how he was able to understand human speak. No one ever explained the mystery to him. It was something worth finding out later on. <Glad to hear the affirmative. I hope this isn’t your first battle.> He gave an ever so sly grin down at the two of them his eyes glistening with a playful spark. He actually had experience battling, making him quite the tough opponent.
<Get ready, friends!> He cried as he dived down from the branch like a plane about to nosedive into the ground, it was a simple Tackle attack. But the trick was catching them off guard with an attack that came out of nowhere.

ooc// Oh, okay. Thanks. c: And I fully agree, just so you know.
bic;/
Ari was startled by the attack- man, this Starly was fast! "Dodge it, quick!" She cried, biting her lip in nervousness. Bronte moved to the side a second too late, the tackle hitting his side. He dug his paws into the ground to keep from being pushed over. "Now quick, Thunder Wave!" Bronte complied, beginning the attack even as she spoke. He had actually thought of the idea as well, and was slightly annoyed that both he and his idiot trainer thought of the same thing. Nonetheless, he released the attack.
'Not bad for once, girl.' He thought to himself, gritting his teeth a bit as his side throbbed, but the pain was already beginning to fade into a tingle.

The higher leveled Starly gave a little chirp upon impact with the Electrikes’s body, bits of electricity had attempted to cling onto him, but with a furious beat of his wings, it was shaken off. That Static ability wasn’t something you wanted to mess with.
<You think that was bad? He cooed, ready to turn around to face the Thunder Wave with a surprising amount of boldness. He must’ve had a trick up his sleeve. <Watch this!> His eyes seemed to sparkle with his following tactic: using a Quick Attack to speed himself up and narrowly dodge the Thunder Wave. With the lightning bolt barely tickling his body, he looped around so he appearing to be flying upside down, eager to beat the Electrike with his furious speed attacks.
Starly received no damage this turn.

The Electrike narrowed his eyes and growled as the attack missed. 'Damn it!' It wasn't until he heard his trainer call, "Bronte, look out!" that he even noticed there was an attack coming straight towards him. He tried to dodge to the side, but it only served to injure his side further. He yipped at the attack. "Bronte! Use Swift!" Ari called out, hoping this would work.
Bronte let loose a flurry of stars towards the Starly.

Now that had done it. The Starly had started to get a little bit cocky with himself, not expecting to take any damage for a while, until it came up like a snake and stung him in the butt. The shooting stars that came out from the Electrike’s mouth were an unstoppable force, they wouldn’t stop coming! Making them impossible to evade, even with multiple ‘Quick Attacks’ or loops, he could never dodge this. The attack had forced him to the ground, down to the Electrike’s level, where he could easily be attacked.
There was a good enough amount of fight in him to get himself back up, and try and start another attack with this beast of an electric type. That Swift attack had hurt, but the higher level advantage he had saved him from anything too serious. Plus, he could afford to waste health now. It was only the first damage dealing attack against him. The Starly used a Growl attack, puffing out his feathery chest like a balloon, as this loud, annoying screech-like sound emerged from his mouth. It made sense. If you ever saw birds at the pet store, oh boy, they sound pretty darn loud. It’s not always ‘cooing’ and ‘chirping’.
<Okay. Get ready…> He panted, not even sure if he was talking to himself, or his opponent. It didn’t matter; there was no time to think! He got himself back into the air, starting another straight forward Tackle on the Electrike.

Bronte allowed himself a smirk as he watched his attack hit dead-on. Ari grinned victoriously as well, but sobered quickly. It was just one attack, after all- they haven't won yet. She noticed the tackle, calling out "Dodge it!" just as the Electrike moved to the side. His natural speed got him out of the way; 'Third time's the charm, I guess.' Ari thought privately. "Alright, Bronte, let's try Thunder Wave, one more time!"
Bronte let loose the weak electric shock, aimed at the Starly.

The Starly gasped when he realized that his target had disappeared right before him, that was the natural speed that one had to expect from one with four legs. He barely had any time to look behind him at all when the Thunder Wave had constricted itself around his wings and legs, sending him crashing into the ground with a quick spray of dirt and mud. The landing hurt. The Thunder Wave was uncomfortable, and now the glossy sheen of his feathers was long gone.
He was successfully paralyzed and trapped on the ground. The effects of the attacks were still too fresh and new to be shaken off so easily. And even if he could move, his speed was drastically lowered. His Quick Attack might not be as quick as it used to be, but it was the best move he had at this point.

Ari let loose a quick cry of triumph as the Starly fell. "All right, Bronte, he's all yours! Tackle!" She called out to her pokmon. Bronte allowed himself a smirk, racing towards the unfortunate Starly.

Finally in a position in which his opponent could easily attack him, the Starly kept trying to get up to avoid the Tackle attack. All he could do was barely stand up, and get knocked right back down from the attack. He was at a much higher level than this confident electric type, but he was getting attacked. Hard.
It was too much. Level difference of not, swirls appeared in his eyes as his reptile like claws twitched in the air. This avian was down and out.
Bronte gains a level.

Ariadne felt a flutter go through her chest as she saw the Starly faint. 'I wonder if it makes me a horrible person, feeling this good as another pokemon gets hurt.' She wondered, vaguely guilty. However, her happiness at winning her very first battle soon overcame the less powerful feeling. "Bronte! We did it!" She yelled with glee, running over to hug her pokemon. Bronte sniffed and turned up his nose at the overly enthusiastic girl. She faltered, remembering her previous problem. 'Damn...'
She turned her attention back to the Starly, considering. 'Well, maybe I should catch it...' She mused. She reached down into her bag, taking out one of the small orbs and fingering it contemplatively. She pressed the button in the center, expanding the device. She tossed it at the still form of the fainted pokemon, not daring to hope just yet.

The metalic orb skintillated in the sunlight high in the sky, and glided through the air to land lightly on the still figure of the flying-type. The Pokémon let out a faint shudder as the cool metal snapped open and with a flash of red light sucked the Starly within the depth of the orb.
With a reluctant sigh, the bird Pokémon didn't bother putting up a fight as he settled down into the orb. His limbs were so heavy, he couldn't stay awake any longer. The Starley quickly feel into a deep slumber, light snores heard from the ball as it clapped shut with a faint ding.
Congrats! You have captured a Starly!
Name: you choose Gender: Level: 7 Ability: {Keen Eye} Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Quick Attack
<SSSSLLOOOOOWWWW...> a fleshy pink blob droned, as it hung from a tree branch by it's tail. <PPPPOOOOOKKKEEE.> The slowpoke was indeed slow, physically, mentally it was very clever. The reputation these creatures had were simply false.
The blank stare, droning, emotionless voice did not do much to help prove this theory though. The Slowpoke caught sight of the trainer and the Electrike as they tossed a ball towards the fainted Pokémon.
Hn. Strange, she hadn't noticed them until now. <SSSSLLOW!> he began droning agian, before cutting herself short as her tail began to lose the grip she had on the branch. The slowpoke began to worry, it was a long way to the ground and if she landed on her head, she was sure the end result would not be good.
<SLOW! POKE! SLOW!> she began yelling. <Help someone! Help me!>

Ari stumbled towards the orbs lying on the ground, feeling more than slightly overwhelmed. She gingerly picked it up, staring at it in awe. 'My first captured Pokémon...' She thought to herself. Even Bronte seemed impressed, actually looking directly at her without (too much) malice. Her reverence was interrupted, however, by a loud wail somewhere to the side. She looked over, noticing the poor Slowpoke.
"Oh no!" She cried, running over. Not a Slowpoke! She loved the poor little things, they were so cute! Not to mention, a water type. She loved water types, as a general rule. She eyes the situation worriedly. 'Uh-oh. I'm not sure I could pick her up, let alone catch her.' She thought anxiously. But, the poor dear was in danger! Nodding with resolve, she positioned herself underneath the pink Pokémon.
"I'll catch you, okay?" She called to the water type, holding out her arms. She looked up, trying to make sure she was directly under, so she wouldn't miss.

The Slowpoke hadn’t been certain that she was going to be able to surivive this fall, even if she fell into the safety of this human’s arms. What if she missed? What if a strong gust of wind blew her away? What if this branch broke while she was asking herself so many questions?! With a gulp, she decided that she had no other choice than to put her trust in this human and let herself fall.
Fall.
Falling.
She fell.
Like an overweight cat being thrown onto a bed, her entire body jiggled because of all of her body fat. With a pathetic whimper from landing into something uncomfortable, she began to squirm about, attempting to get back onto solid ground.

With a loud "Oof," the girl was promptly squashed by the weight of the pink Pokémon. Her knees buckling beneath her, she crashed to the ground, breaking the fall of the other being with her body. Her arms bent at a weird angle, and if it wasn't for the lack of extreme pain she would have guessed it was broken.
She winced as a sharp pain shot through her arm. 'Well, it isn't broken, but damn, if it doesn't hurt!' Ari thought to herself, bitterly optimistic. Somewhere to her side, she was certain she heard Bronte snickering at her. She scowled at the thought, but hearing the whimper of the water type above her she schooled her features into a worried face.
Slowly pushing herself up, Ari simultaneously twisted so the Pokémon fell in her lap as she sat up straight. "Are you alright, dear?" She asked worriedly, placing a hand on top of the pokemon's head.

OOC: Wolfie~ I'm sorry for not replying sooner. I thought a Mod would do it.
Bic:
Physically incapable of making a fast reply, the Slowpoke's head turned around as if just noticing the human girl speak five seconds after she actually spoke. Her eyes had sparked at the sound of her hero, still being held in her arms, squishy body and all. She felt pretty darn safe and secure in the humans grip, and she didn't quite want to leave.
<Miss, I understand that you coach Pokemon in the art of battles. Would I help you if I battled you? I feel that I must do something.> She looked down, realizing that she may not be understood. But in her eyes, one could easily see that she wanted to do something to return her kind gesture.

It's perfectly alright, Spirit. Things happen. (:

Ariadne's brow furrowed as she tried to decipher the meaning behind the pokemon's slow speech. She saw a somewhat pleading glance in the Slowpoke's eyes, however, and guessed. "It's okay." She smiled at the pokemon, but was promptly distracted by Bronte pawing at the gound to her side. She looked over to him in surprise, seeing him trying to get into an offensive stance.
"A... battle?" She asked, confused. "But, Bronte... You just fought!" She said, frowning a bit. She didn't want to overwork her pokemon, and the Starly she had caught had fainted- thus, in a worse condition than Bronte. Bronte shook his head, and pawed the ground again. It seemed he had decided to stop trying to speak to the silly girl, in favor of using actions to communicate with his master.
Bronte stared hard at the Slowpoke, as if prompting her to do something. 'If you stand up and face me, we can battle.' He informed her, the air charging with tension.
