Nick was alarmed at the incoming razor sharp leaves lauched from the massive Tropius. With little time to think his instict came to play and he quickly concocted a plan. "Pow use Flame Wheel and burn those leaves and then use Mach Punch on Tropius." A wierd plan some would think. Why use a fire attack to overcome an attack, but not use the fire attack that would do double the damage on the Pokemon. Interesting eh...lets see.
Pow nodded and hoped into the air and did a 360 while mid-air. Soon he was enveloped in a burning flame and rotating. The leaves were all burned and fell to the ground. Monferno then was back to normal and landing softly on the ground. His fist then glowed with a white light and in an instant he was off to punch the intimidating Tropius.

Tropius seemed indignant. Mach Punch connected with it's left side, leaving little more than a nasty bruise where the fist had hit it. It glared daggers at the Monferno, flapping it's wings and lifting into the sky.
What the... Did somebody teach this Tropius Fly?

"Holy Balls..." Nick stated in sight of a flying Tropius. "Who knew...this Tropius is a very formidable Pokemon, especially when I know it knows Fly. Now I want this guy..." Nick snickered becasue he really enjoyed the thrill of battle. "Pow climb the tree and when you get to the top try and hit this Tropius with a Flame Wheel!!!" Nick ordered his Monferno.
Pow was a Monferno, so naturally it could rapidly climb trees with relative ease. In a quick second it was at the top. Pow then walked out on a long branch and once he neared the end he leaped. In mid-air he was engulfed in flames and began to rotate quickly in Tropius' direction.

Scowling at Monferno, it simply flew to the side, dodging the vicious flame attack. However, it also meant it couldn't attack with it's aerial strike. Annoyed, it alighted on the ground gracefully, waiting for Monferno to follow.

"Grab a branch!" Nick called out to his Pokemon. Pow stretched out the flames dissipated. With his legs he grabbed a branch and lifted himself up. "Quick, jump and use Flame Wheel!" Nick had a plan once again this time he was going to use Flame Wheel but increase its power with the use of gravity.
If Moferno jumps off the tree and use Flame Wheel, his rotation will pick up and will cause the Flames to enlarge and he'll slam into the ground with a powerful slam. If it connects with Tropius some major damage will be done, if not Pow will at least be closer and I can act faster. I do need to be careful seeing I'm in a forest and if this place catches fire, it'll be hell putting it out. I need to get me a Water Pokemon soon.
Pow swiftly hoped off the branch and began to rotate and was engulfed by the flames once again. As he descended the flames grew and his rotation picked up substantially. He was like a falling meteor and was about to touchdown.

The sun's rays shined down on Tropius. It's wings began to glow, boosting it's special attack. Attack was pulled off in the knick of time, as Monferno's fiery form slammed into it's side. Letting out a roar of pain, it flapped it's wings frantically, trying to extinguish the flames.

Monferno rose rather dazed from the crash, but he saw his plan had succedded. Nick stood on the sidelines and watched the Tropius attempt to put out the flame. Nick continued to watch and gave no orders. Pow was rather happy becasue this gave the little monkey time to recooperate and gather himself.

Finally, the last of the flames flickered out. With a triumphant smile, Tropius lifted into the air once more, circling both trainer and pokemon menacingly. It's massive form was almost enough to block out the sunlight.

Zero would be better fit for this battle, but that's of no matter at this point. I'm going to stick it out with Pow, we haven't battle alone in awhile, so we need to connect too. That thing is back in the air, I need to get it grounded and keep him that way. For now...I'll buy time.
Nick and Pow were shaded from the sun, seeing the Tropius was high and blocking the few rays. The tail of Pow had a flame and that provided a bit of light luckily. "Okay Pow use Leer and follow up with a Taunt!" Useless moves so it seemed, but it did do a bit.
Pow glanced at the Tropius a spark in his eye. That attack lowered the Tropius' attack a bit, which would suffice for now. To ensure nothing other than attacks would be used Pow began to Taunt the Tropius as well.

Enraged, Tropius' movements became frenzied. It circled Monferno swifly, dipping down to try an aerial tackle.

Okay, Pow fire an Ember directly at Tropius. Nick gave Pow simple orders and he swiftly executed them. Seeing Tropius come down for a Tackle Pow fired an Ember right in his direction.

One fire once again, Tropius ceased the attack at the last possible moment, focusing instead on extinguishing the flames that threatened to consume it. It spun in circles, before finally dropping to the ground and rolling. It had observed a trainer do that once...

Smart one, eh? This guy has been in many battles and has endured a lot. I really want this guy now. I need to get closer. "Pow use Fury Swipes and then try to get closer with Mach Punch!" Nick looked at this battle as a game of Chess, and was anticipating the Tropius' moves and tactics.
I know if I start with Mach Punch he'll get hit, but dodge the follow-up. So a Fast Attack, followed by a slow, mid-speed attack is no good. But, if I start with a mid-speed attack and follow up with a fast one Pow will be close and the chances of my next attack hitting will be greater. I'm really hoping the Tropius will dodge the Fury Swipes though.

Staggering to it's feet, Tropius' wings were both charred and crumpled, from the fire and the rolling. They were almost completely useless.
Seething, it waited for Monferno to move closer with Fury Swipes. As it neared, Tropius charged, trying to trample the fire-monkey with Stomp.

Pow was shocked and trampeled by the Stomp attack. He layed flat on the ground, stomp marks and bruises all over him. Nick gritted his teeth and was now a little heated, apparently the Tropius still had more fight. Nick was definitely impressed by the powerful Tropius and his will to beat it was even higher than before.
"Pow use Leer and Flame Wheel!" Hoping up on its feet the Monferno shot a sparkling stare the Tropius way and then rolled its way wrapped in flames.

Frozen in it's tracks Tropius shook as the leer took effect. It was helpless to take the flamewheel headon. On the ground it struggled to get to it's feet, no avail. It hit the ground in one last thud. You've beaten Tropius! You can attempt to capture it by throwing a pokeball, or move on.
Monferno gains half a level for it's efforts.

Nick had really wanted the Tropius, especially after the long, tactical battle between Tropius and Pow. Nick reached into his pocket and pulled out a Great Ball, to hopefully ensure capture. He then threw the ball forward at the Tropius hoping the catch would be successful.
Meanwhile Pow stood a few steps away from the fallen Tropius and watched as Nick went to capture it.

Orb shook several times. Just when it appeared to have stopped, it flashed a bright white. It popped open, the clasp on the back shattering completely, leaving both wasted halves lying uselessly in the tall grass.
Try again?

"Bull!!" Nick yelled. He was shocked that the first capture attempt was unsuccessful, but shrugged. Do I need to weaken it more? No! I thought he was for the most part...defeated. One more Great Ball...I don't have enough to waste like that, so hopefully this will work. Nick reached into his pocket and pulled out another Great Ball. "Capture!" He exclaimed throwing the ball in the Tropius' direction.

The Pokeball was shaking an incredibly large amount, obviously meaning that Tropius was trying to fight back. However, the red light in the centre of the device eventually faded, signifying a successful capture.
