Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
How it Feels to Fly - Alicia KeysAppearance, Personality and Background
Soren Jinn wasn’t the kind of person that had girls falling for him left and right. He wasn’t the one that received love letters every other day and changed girlfriends as often as he changed his undergarments, nor was he the kind of person that really cared about those insignificant things too much. One wouldn’t describe him as normal either. He had this look that was a tad weird and not particularly sought out for, not to mention he was much shorter and looked much younger than anyone else his age. His hair was long and black, most of it tied up with a piece of cloth while bangs framed his face. His skin was slightly tanned, although not too much. Most of his slightly underweight body was hidden under a robe and cloak anyways. His eyes were red, a sign of his abnormality. It showed the world that he was neither a human nor a pokemorph, but something caught in between. Being only half human, he was always discriminated by both world and never accepted for who he was. Branded on his forehead by a mark by the people he used trusted, also red in color, it made everyone wary of him and constantly avoided him.
The attire he wore was rather dark, although it still looked rather appealing on him too. Dark blue robes, trimmed with gold, in a rather eastern design, covered a white shirt, poking out at the sleeves. A lighter blue sash was tied around his waist and a leather braided belt looping over it crookedly. A little pouch was hung to the leather belt containing the few belongings he had, including his deceased mother’s necklace and a bottle of her ashes. Soren also had a cape that fell down to float against his ankles, dark gray in color with a simple darker trim on it. The inside of the cape was a lighter, almost tan color and complemented with the gold nicely. For shoes, he opted to wear sandals. Not only did it go better with his attire, but it was also better than running shoes or sneakers. The straps offered extra support to his ankle and the thick sole prevented him from feeling every bump on the road. However, the leather constantly rubbed his skin to the point where they sometimes bled, causing the boy to constantly wear bandages on his feet.
Soren was quite the silent type. He never had too many people to talk to when he was younger, and still didn’t as he grew older, so he just never really bothered. He knew that conversing with others made when wary of him and so he just didn’t. If you did get him to talk though, you would find that he was rather open-minded, though and most people didn’t even know a talkative side existed. Most of the time, it was a pain to even get a single word out of him. Quite the tactician, he was able to quickly think on his two feet, never losing his cool, a skill he gained from the countless tactics he had to come up with while he was a war tactician. Coupled with his knowledge, he was a ruthless battler. Emotion rarely showed on his face, making him pretty unreadable. The part human was almost like a wall on the outside, built to protect him. However, once he does break, his emotions tend to overflow, letting out the pent-up feelings that are impossible to control.
On the other side of his mask hid a world of treasures. It showed the real him, emotions and all. Caring and lovable, only best friend and his mother ever saw that side of him. She was the one that gave him the human blood running though his vein. His father never really bothered, as he was ashamed of him. It was as if he expected him to be the full pokemorph, able to change just like his ancestors. The bitter and angry shell hid a sad and lonely boy, hoping to be recognized, to prove to the world that they were wrong in shunning him, that they were wrong in refusing his friendship, that they shouldn’t have pushed him into building that cold fortress around him.
The pokémon side of him did make him more in tune with the wind element and he had quickly found a companion with the birds. They were his best friends, his only friends, and a fierce, loyal bond was formed between him and the flying pokémon. He was also rather in tune with the shadows surrounding him, with the darkness that engulf the world when the sun sets. The strong and mighty thunders along with the unpredictable and fearsome flames are also appreciated by the boy. He also love pack creatures and admires the loyalty they have with their peers, something that he was never able to show. Humans were simply too selfish to be loyal.
History
Unable to take his life in his village, being accepted by neither his father's clan or any of the humans because of his nature, Soren left to find a life on his own. He joined the Greil Mercenaries and met a human named Ike who sheltered him and gave him a reason to stay, who showed him kindness no one else would. He was accepted and judged only on his actions as a tactician, where he learned the art of war. The mercenaries helped settle the feuds between the pokemorph clans amongst each other and against the humans. Though his father never agreed with Soren's decision, Ike was the best thing that ever happened to him. At the end of the war, the mercenaries were disbanded and Soren left to find another life for himself. Or at least, that is what he tells himself. Soren does his best to forget about the night he saw Ike with Ranulf, a vaporeon pokemorph, being intimate together. To this day, Soren still greatly dislikes the eevee family, despite not knowing much about them.
