YES AND NO, BUT ANNIE, WOULD I LIE TO YOU?
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
APPEARANCE; They say she looks like an absolute mess.
From her head to her toe, her whole body just screams 'unkept!' Rutherford can be considered an absolute mess; hell, maybe even 'pretty' is someone had certain kinds of tastes. The first thing someone will probably notice about Rutherford is her height. She stand at 5"4', so she is very small compared to her peers. She's not that heavy; she has a few extra pound packed in her belly and sides, which most certainly does not make her lanky. She has a semi-fair build, but has the strength and muscles of a day old Chihuahua, and never bothers to exercise.
Another thing that one might notice about her is her skin; unlike many people, her skin is actually extremely pale from spending hours each day indoors playing video games. It looks out-of-place on her, but can be considered by many people as beautiful. It all depends on the person's like for smooth, pale skin or not. However, even if her skin is of a beautiful complexion, her face and chest are covered in freckles and the occasional mole, and her eyes always have dark circles underneath them. The overly pale skin fails to hide any imperfections such as scars or one or two red spots that appear on her face as a result of being a teenager.
Other than skin, another distinct feature about this manly girl would be her dark crimson hair with brown highlights. It clashes vivdly with her skin and if she had an exotic look before, her hair only enhances it by two hundred percent. One would think that lighter skin would call for lighter hair, but Rutherford most obviously proves this wrong. Her hair is of medium length, falling to her neck in the back and flopping past her shoulders in the front. Her hair is, in no way, the same length either. She has some unever bangs that fall in random directions and make her look feral. She also have an unever fringe that sometimes covers her right eye.
Rutherford's hair rests on an extremely pale face, due to the hours she spends alone in dark rooms perfectly content with her video games. Her cheeks are a rosy red, always flushed with perverted thoughts. Her head is easily classified as a round shape, so she often straightens her hair to balance it out and make her face appear longer. Her cheeks are slightly chubby, like that of a baby's, and her eyes, a dark amber chocolate swirl, always have a glazed look as if she's drugged.
One of Rutherford's favorite features are her shoulders. They are nice and round, tiny, and set apart fairly from her skinny neck. On her chest, which is rather small with even smaller breasts, she also has the same freckles that dot her face. Her bellybutton is set high on her abdomen, where she is extremely ticklish, and her butt is rather plump. It smooths out to her thighs, about the size of her upper arms, and then down to long, slender legs, and small feet.
Her arms are of medium length; not to stubby, and not freakishly long. Although she usually has her nails painted some sort of neon color, she keeps her fingernails well-kept and trimmed so they reach just slightly past her fingers for self-defense when necessary. Her clothing style is rather... well, unique. Her favorite accessory is a shark tooth that she stole from a shark dissection in her biology class which she always wears around her neck from a loose string. Her favorite shirts are usually quirky, graphic tees with bright colors, but she always wears a black pullover with a rainbow on it and large white print that reads, "WHAT DOES IT MEAN?" She usually finds comfort in baggy blue jeans and black high-top shoes with white laces.[/blockquote]
PERSONALITY; Rutherford is highly religious and she always has a hope in Arceus with her, praying at night and when she wakes up. She truly believes that Arceus is allmighty and she does everything to follow his teachings. One should never speak badly about Arceus in her presence or else they'll get a long, drawn out lecture about his greatness. It is normal to see Rutherford praying when she feels nervous or needs hope for something. Being almost blind, she has been forced to become more synchronized with her other senses, such as tact, paladar, and mostly her hearing. She has heightened her senses and can listen and feel much more deeply than others - that is why she loves video games. It makes her feel as if there's another world out there, a world of multiple shapes and colors, and sound. She loves playing them and when she is not busy she will quite often be seen with a game boy in her hands. She mostly plays RPG games.
Upon first seeing her, one would get the impression that she's a very gentle, withdrawn person - and they are right. Rutherford treats everything with the utmost care, from the most fragile of flowers to the toughest of Onix. If you didn't know, Rutherford actually likes nature and everything in it; she just doesn't show it. She is a very immature individual, and does not know how things world outside of video games and how to deal with them. She makes conflicts without even meaning to, and becomes overwhelmed when face with more than one problem at a time. She loves and gets along best with those who are childish, due to the fact that she is herself. Having passed by an easy life, she grew up far too late and is now struggling with catching up after living under a rock for so long.
Even being as gentle as she is, Rutherford also has a sadistic side to her. Because of the things that have happened to her she likes to see others suffer - and give them pain if they deserve it. Sometimes she has weird and wicked thoughts, almost to the point of sexual arousal, in which she hurts someone emotionally or physically. She isn't always like this, but these perverted thoughts tend to pop up when she's very bored. She likes the noise around her and speaks a lot, prefering to participate in conversations rather than keep to herself. Because of this, people have labeled her as obnoxious, which is far from the truth. She can be quite secretive when she wants to.
This girl doesn't like to be touched. At all. She might turn violent on whoever dares touch her. This happens when fellow humans touch her - she doesn't mind if Pokémon do, but she will kick someone's ass if they touch even one of her hairs. She might make a few exceptions if she learns to heavily trust someone, but other than that... stay away. She loves to read and know as much as she can, but since she is going blind, she will only buy books with braille instead of written letters. If someone asks her a random question, she will most likely be happy to answer correctly, if she can. Aside from reading, she has learned a lot from life itself and not all of it has been pleasent.[/blockquote]
HISTORY; The Midas family was quite known arounc Celestic Town, even though almost no one knew what happened inside said family. No one knew of their origins or traditions since they were very secretive to the outside world. Only a Midas knows about the information of the Midas family and whoever leaks information was considered a traitor and is shunned from the family. These were the simply rules every family member had to follow - in order to tell Rutherford's history, one must know of her family. The first rule was, of course, to never tell an outsider about the secrets in the family. The second rules was to always respect elders, who ruled the family. The third rule was that no one could marry outside of the family so the blood would not be diluted. Of course, there were others, but the major ones had the most severe punishment for disobeying. The old family had a lot of traditions that carried on from generation to generation without being changed - changing the traditions would be like heresy to the family.
One of the reasons the Midas family kept such secrecy was because of the many things practiced inside of the family; many were illegal, such as arranged marriages. Those born within the Midas family were arranged to marry another member of the Midas family from their day of birth. Of course, this also brung many problems. Family members were often born with diseases or mutations, and it sometimes reached a point where new blood was welcomed, which was the only time they made acceptions to the marriage rule.
"Airmid, you're so lucky to have been arranged to marry Gwydion! He'll make a wonderful husband and father!"
Airmid had been born into the Midas family twenty years ago, being promised to a man as soon as she came to be. Gwydion, said man, had been born on the exact same day as Airmid and both had been given the names of two Celtic Gods. This had not been a sad arranged marriage like others had been. Airmid had always been Gwydion's best friend and vice-versa; as they grew up together, they also grew up to love each other deeply and their parents were very proud of them.
Airmid herself was a very meek lady, always doing her best to please her parents and her family and getting ordered around like it was an honor. Gwydion was exactly the opposite, but he had always respected Airmid and loved her, so he was okay with this marriage. And thus, the happy couple got married and gave birth to a beautiful daughter, who they originally thought would be male, thus birthing her with the name Rutherford. The girl grew up with the Midas traditions and principles: Honor, Honesty & Pride. However, she wasn't completely healthy. She had been born almost blind and his eyesight would worsen until one day he'd turn blind for good. There was nothing that could be done to fix that problem, but his parents loved him nonetheless.
Airmid and Gwydion had a wonderful marriage up until he was four years old and he had, by that time, been given a younger brother called Bragi, the name of the Norse God of poets. Bragi was two years younger than the older child and he was a very happy toddler, always wanting to play with Rutherford. Of course, Rutherford and his brother were bethroned to two other children, a male and female, of about the same age as them; Eir and Aphrodite.
The couple's happiness didn't last for long, though. It would have been a nice ending to it all, wouldn't it? But alas, this wasn't a fairytale and people were not going to live happily ever after...
Rutherford awoke one morning with a start; she heard screaming outside. She had been only four by that time and completely clueless as to why the ever peaceful atmosphere inside his family's house was filled with tension. The four year old hadn't known what tension was at that time, so she had dismissed it as a bad feeling. She had wondered why the Elders hadn't stopped this commotion already and Rutherford peeked from her room.
When she saw the terrible scene right in front of the door, her heart almost fell. She could have had a very poor eyesight, but she could see the shape of Bragi being led out of the household along with his mother. Both of them were crying intensely and Rutherford had been paralyzed with fear as she saw that no one was helping them. What was it with these people? Gaining the movement of her legs again, she ran over to her mother and younger brother, screaming their names until his throat was raw and in pain. Tears were streaming down his face and some rested upon his chapped lips. His face had turned into an expression of desperation and suffering.
"Mommy... Bragi..." She whispered, her body going numb as the exhaustion took over and she fell into a dreamless sleep. Before her eyes closed she turned around to see who had stopped her from going after her mother; she was not surprised when he met the face of her father. Bitterness and a deep sadness had been in the man's eyes.
"Mommy!" The eight year old screamed, gasping as she felt yet another headache coming. She had been having that dream a lot lately, the dream in which her family had shunned her mother and brother away. Her father hadn't explained her then, but he now knew of the truth; Bragi hadn't been Rutherford's brother, but her half-brother instead. Airmid, Rutherford's mother, had fallen in love with an outsider and had bared his son, Bragi, disguising him as Gwydion's son to keep him and herself within the Midas family where they would be given protection and privileges. However, that day a stranger had knocked on the Midas' family household and had demanded to see Airmid. Turns out he was the real father of Bragi as Airmid confessed later on what she had done. Needless to say, the marriage was shattered and Airmid and her bastard son were shunned from the family. Rutherford had cared then, but as time passed by and he got to understand what had really happened, he started to hate his mother and his younger brother for such a betrayal.
At eight years old, Rutherford had slightly matured from her four year old self. She had grown considerably and had acquired a love for video games. However, her eyesight had worsened and she had to wear thick glasses that framed her eyes not so nicely. Still, even wearing those, her eyesight worsened day by day and now she could only see shapes, faded colors and shadows. For the next six years, Rutherford devoted her entire life to video games, rarely even meeting with the young man she was supposed to be wed with. Four years later, when she finally struggled with herself, she found out that she was a lesbian; she always loved staring at girls and thinking perverted thoughts, and loved getting kisses on the cheek from her friends. There was no doubt in her mind that she could never hold a serious relationship with a man.
Upon telling her family, they knew that she was eighteen and could legally live on her own, and shunned her from the house.
For the next two months she wandered aimlessly, posing as a Pokémon trainer so that the police wouldn't send her to jail. She worked on several places to gain money, but never more than one week each. After continously failing, she decided to become a real Pokémon trainer. That way she could travel around, have fun and gain money from it. She knew the Midas clan was divided throughout the whole four regions... except one. Her destiny was decided from then on.[/blockquote]
