Full Name: Leila Nowell
Gender: Female
Age: Eighteen, born January 12th.
Face: Azusa Nakano, K-ON!
Appearance: Nothing particularly out of the ordinary. Leila’s hair is black and falls almost to her waist, but she usually keeps it tied up in a ponytail. She has short bangs across her forehead with longer ones framing the sides of her face. Her eyes are brown, a slightly lighter shade of it than one might think of when they imagine typical brown eyes. She stands about 5’9”, and is usually only seen wearing a plain shirt and jeans if the weather is nice. Leila cares much more about going about her life than she does about how she looks.
Background: The daughter of Nathan Nowell, wealthy entrepreneur and CEO of Saffron City’s Nowell Construction Co., Leila could have gotten anything she wanted, any time she wanted it.
Well, almost everything.
With her father constantly busy at his job and her mother gone—she left her husband when it became clear that he loved his company more than his wife—Leila was often left with a babysitter as a child. It was from this woman who was charged with her supervision that Leila learned about Pokemon training. She was told about the legendary Champions of the world’s regions, who had bested even the Elite Four and all of their competition. Her babysitter, a former trainer herself, explained that trainers would visit Professor Oak and obtain a Pokemon of their very own when they turned ten years old. Leila wanted nothing more for her tenth birthday than to start her very own journey.
Her father, however, had other plans. Absolutely not, he told her; it was vital that she continue her tutoring and eventually go on to inherit his company. There was no time for Pokemon training, wandering around the region aimlessly in hopes of achieving a lofty dream. Leila was heartbroken. She spent the next eight years studying Pokemon in secret, learning about all the different types and marveling at their diversity.
On her eighteenth birthday, Leila declared that she’d had enough. She was an adult now, and could make her own decisions; the decision she had made was to become the greatest Pokemon trainer the region—no, the world, had ever known. She left her father’s mansion on that day, against his will, with this goal in mind, and traveled to Vermilion City to catch the first ship she could find that would take her somewhere where her father couldn’t find her.
Personality: Her father used to describe her with the “three S’s”: spoiled, stubborn, and sassy. Coming from an incredibly wealthy family, Leila usually expects to get what she wants; it will be a challenge for her to realize that the world doesn’t always work that way. Nonetheless, she will keep trying until she gets a favorable result, and sometimes comes off rude to others because she is so persistent. This is also reflected in her attitude; it is not uncommon for Leila to have a “holier-than-thou” view of herself and she may seem a bit selfish. Deep down, though, the only reason she acts this way is because she honestly doesn’t know any better; she has been essentially sheltered for most of her life and is only used to being the daughter of a business tycoon.
