The poor girl was cold, shivering, covered in only a thin blanket strewn with holes. Her bright blue eyes peered up at the towering man, fearful, from her unsuccessful hiding place behind a bundle of barrels. Bedraggled red hair was strewn across her wiry shoulders, the messy locks framing the innocent, terrified freckled face almost perfectly. How could he force her to leave the ship? She clearly had nowhere to go. She said so herself. Besides, the bruises on her cheeks and arms… even if she had someplace to go, it wasn’t a very safe one. Who was he to make her return to such a life? And so, with a heard grown warm from helping out such a helpless young child, the captain of The Sally May allowed young Kenna passage on his vessel to the Cheyenne region. She only had a small bag in her possession, and the dirty clothes on her back. It was no problem at all.
Victory had almost been too easy.
For the first day at sea, Kenna had been tempted to stir things up. She decided against it; blowing up a ship in the middle of an ocean was a bad idea for all parties involved, herself included. And even if she just caused some trouble? Getting caught here was not exactly something she could easily wriggle out of. It would be fun, but… not this time. She wanted a clean slate upon arrival to Cheyenne. As such, the petit teenager spent the entire voyage as a young child would, singing and playing with the sailors, helping out with menial chores. It was all very boring. But she kept it up. At least the sailors had interesting tales to tell and games to play. Her vocabulary grew, too, in ways that would make her old nurses gasp and cry.
Kenna’s “saviors” and “friends” on the ship had generously provided her directions for reaching the Pokémon Lab of the region, though they weren’t certain if children her age were able to obtain a companion of their own. Kenna had merely smiled and cheerfully told them that she was a big girl, and would manage. They had smiled back, guffawed, patted her on the head, and bid her farewell upon reaching land. Her first stop was a café; she went into the bathroom, ripped off her ragged clothing worn on the cargo vessel, and replaced them with clean attire.
Her arrival to the Pokémon lab was filled with disappointment. None of the available starters met her standards. Not one! Her disapproval was clear, and she was directed to try the Ranger Station nearby. She had no choice there, but at least there was a chance of getting something that she liked? Kenna smiled brightly at the assistant and nodded with enthusiasm. Though the idea sickened her. A random Pokémon? It was better than this load of rubbish, at least. With a quick ”Thank you,” Kenna left the building and moved with purpose towards this so-called Ranger Station. Might as well get this over with. Maybe she could get what she wanted here? Manipulate the ranger?
Pondering ways to do such a thing, the eighteen-year-old girl made her way towards the tent. And yes, it was just a tent. A large tent, but a tent nonetheless, looking almost as ragged as the thing she had used as a blanket aboard the ship. She smirked, then covered it up with wide-eyed wonder. She was a young wannabe trainer. That was all. Nothing more, nothing less.
Standing hesitantly outside the tent flap, Kenna gave a small sound in between a cough and hiccup. ”He-hello?” she called, peeking through the crack in the tent. ”Is anyone there?”

::skitty::
Inside the tent sat a rather impatient male. What was he impatient one might ask? That's simple. Because no females seemed to know what the words RANGER TENT meant. Didn't they know that the sexy beast named Coby was waiting to get them their first pokemon and possibly something more? Growling out in slight frustration he watched Ranger Bruce lead another male out into the terrain behind the tent. He, of course, had pretended to have a sprained ankle as soon as he saw the male enter the tent.
Glancing over and out the open flap he suddenly sat up straight. Was that a beautiful red headed female or did his eyes deceive him from the distance. Standing up, he made his way to the flap and did a quick peak out for a better visual. Female. Chalk one up for Coby.
Behind him, lounging on a table top was a pink cat pokemon who stared daggers at the back of her trainer's head. She knew what was about to happen and she couldn't help but dread it, just like all the other times. Standing up and giving a quick stretch, she leaped off the table and stood by Coby's side until the girl reached the flap.
Extending a hand, Coby grinned down charmingly at Kenna. "And what, may I ask, do I have the pleasure of meeting such a charming lady such as yourself for?" Sure the girl before him look short and was rather flat if you got his drift but he could live with this. She wasn't too bad, not too bad.
Princess gave a rather loud hiss of warning to her trainer, her black eyes giving him 'the look'. If only her gaze could freeze him in his tracks. She could already see where this was going.

Sorry, was Kenna hoping for a pushover? A pushover she may have just found. The Skitty, however, was certainly an issue, bobbing about and attempting to be the voice of reason. She was certainly cute, but it seemed to be her job to keep her flirtatious companion in order. With her around, Kenna could hardly -- do what? She realized in an instant that flirting back would not be an easy task. This guy nearly looked twice her age. Even though he acted this way didn’t mean he really thought about her in such a manner.
Her mind worked at a furious rate as she outwardly smiled at the man who appeared before her. She placed her small hand in his and looked down, batting her eyelashes only slightly to show embarrassment. ”I was hoping that you could help me capture a Pokemon. If -- if you have the time?” Kenna looked up and met the Ranger’s eyes, her own bright blue ones hopeful, almost admiring.

When Kenna placed her hands in his he couldn't help but grin ear to ear. Gripping hers tightly, Coby didn't miss her hesitancy and batting eyelashes. "Now now, for you I have all the time in the world." He gave a wink and started tugging her hands softly to lead her into the tent. "Let's get you out of the wind and into the tent. I'll set you up with a starter pack and then we can go find you a pretty starter to rival your eyes." He flirted shamelessly.
Once inside the tent he dropped her hands, though by his expression it looked like he was pained by doing so, and headed over to a few boxes, pulling out this and that. Stuffing the items into a bag he held it out for her to take. "I can't promise anything but what type of Pokémon would this fine Lady before me like to have?"
Immediately after his comment a weight hit his leg. Looking down he saw Princess, his Skitty, tail at the ready to beat him again. She didn't seem to please with his flirting and if he knew anything about his pink cat Pokémon it was that the hit he just received was a warning, a very light warning to what she could do too. He inwardly shuddered at the thought of what his Pokémon might do but was it worth it to flirt and get a chance at the female before him? Yes, yes it was.

Allowing herself to be led inside the tent, Kenna looked around with interest. It appeared as though a lot of people were crammed in this place, normally, though the number of beds was difficult to make out at a glance. Apparently not many Rangers felt the need to carefully make their cots in the morning; they all blended together in a mass of blankets and pillows.
Kenna laughed at Coby’s words, but said nothing as she watched the Ranger gather together various items. Taking the proffered bag filled with goods, she looked inside and took a quick inventory. Five simple Pokeballs. Not the best, but she’d manage to find better ones soon enough. Three potions -- good enough for keeping the weak, low-leveled Pokémon she received from dying on her. And… a Pokedex? Kenna took it out of the bag, holding it in her hands. She had seen trainers in Kanto, and across the few regions she’d traveled, with one of these mechanisms, though she’d never held one. The idea of taking it apart, seeing how it worked… how she could alter it… she shivered with excitement.
Still holding the Pokedex in her small hands, Kenna looked up and smiled widely at Coby, slowly dropping her shy demeanor. ”I’d really like something cute. Cute and strong!” And rare, she added inwardly, that she could possibly sell for a bucket of cash should it not please her. ”Maybe like your Skitty?” Kenna continued, reaching down to pet the cat-like Pokémon. In all seriousness, this action was genuine. She found the Skitty incredibly adorable, and would like nothing more than to give it a snuggle. Plus, if she buttered it up, maybe it would be kind to her in what Pokémon it received?

As his Skitty bounded off to get the girl her Starter Pokemon, Coby ignored her warnings and continued to flirt with the first time Trainer. " "A cute Pokemon, huh? How about a cute Ranger to go with it?" he asked the girl with a daring wink. He soon ceased his flirting when Princess returned with a green, struggling shape which soon gave up the fight, falling asleep with a small sigh and a series of earth-shaking snores. Coby gave Kenna another Pokeball with the same smile. "Just throw that at the Pokémon to capture it. So then, ms, can I have your phone numb- AGGGGGH!"His flirting was brought to an abrupt end as Princess' Double Slap sent him into the tent with a loud crash and what sounded like cutlery shattering. "...Good luck on your journey..." he mumbled from inside the tent, his feet sticking out from the flap in a pretty unattractive way. The skitty also had a glare for the new trainer. had she heard the suggestion? Level: 5 Gender: You choose Name: You choose Ability: Overgrow Moves: Tackle. Withdraw. Growth Personality: You choose

The frown on Kenna’s face was one hundred percent authentic. What was that monstrosity? It certainly wasn’t cute. It wasn’t ugly, necessarily, but it was… not right. At all. She pointed the Pokedex at it. Turtwig, huh? It was rare, at least. That was something. Was it worth it to even bother trying for something else?
She opened her mouth, about to complain, then paused. Kenna had been told at the lab that what you got was it. End of story. Even this flirtatious Ranger must know that, and wouldn’t change the rules for anything. Unless she slept with him, which was not something she was willing to do. Therefore, she submitted to what she was given, tossing the Pokeball at the creature. She watched it, heartily disappointed, disappear inside the sphere in a blast of red light. Maybe she’d find a trainer who would be willing to trade? Such honest tactics were not something she was opposed to, especially if it got her something she wanted. Or just sell the thing. Or toss it in a fire. The grass type would combust quite well, she mused, picking up the Pokeball and putting it in her bag. Whatever she did, it would have to be fast in order to sooth her displeasure.
Her game was not starting well.
