Quinn Delessin, after poring over a list of Lab Pokémon she'd bartered from a homeless man, had come to the conclusion that she didn't feel strongly attracted to any of them. The Bulbasaur seemed quite appealing... but why go for a bog-standard Pokémon when a much more exciting chance was out there? With a random Pokemon, she could literally get anything. So, she could at least get something different from the Lab Pokemon, something that few other people would have as their starter. Although saying that, she'd had to look at the disadvantages for a fleeting second. She could get something awful, like... like... like something totally useless. But of course, once she'd made up her mind, nothing could deter her, as usual. Being November, the weather was icy and cold. Gusts of wind frequently flew past at a blinding pace; it shook the strands of hair that dangled down from Quinn's funny, twisty bun she liked to call the "French bun", because she'd seen it in a magazine featuring French models. It was convenient for her Pokémon journey; it kept her hair out of her face in the angry wind, so she could let it tumble down in neat curls when she was inside. She was wearing a floral blouse and tight black skinny jeans, with her favourite sturdy "trekking boots", wrapped up in a thick, muted orange coat with shiny buttonts all the way up to her throat. Snuggling deeper inside her coat, Quinn spotted her destination; a large, open tent. This was where the Rangers could be found, according to the ton of locals she'd confirmed with before setting off. Quinn approached the tent, turning her head to survey the setting. There was no sign of human life, yet. "Hello? Is anyone here?" She called into nowhere, hoping for a reply.

A girl with blond hair and blue eyes sat at a table in the Ranger's Tent with a soft smile on her face. Her gaze was settled on her Pokémon Vince, the Venusaur. He currently was trying to rid the tent of a Rattata that had managed it's way in. He wasn't doing so well however, even with the drastic level difference of the two it seemed the purple rat was winning. Why? Because Vince was much larger and couldn't use many of his attacks of risk destroying the tent itself. At the sound of a voice however, both of them looked up letting the rat Pokémon make a quick departure.
Standing up, Emmy waved her grass Pokémon to follow her to the front flap. Her blue eyes landed on the female before her and a smile appeared on her face. ""Hello. Welcome to the Ranger Station. I'm Emmy and I'll be your Ranger for this adventure. My Venusaur, Vince, will be assisting."

Relieved that there was some friendly human life nearby, Quinn made her way towards the Ranger as she spoke, eyeing the handsome Venusaur as she did so, admiring it. It looked strong and healthy, making her wonder... maybe, months or years after this, she might have a team of Pokemon like that. They would be her best friends. She might even be a Ranger... Quinn wrapped her coat tighter around herself as the wind pushed through a particularly strong gust of wind, letting the loose strands of hair flutter over her face in an annoying fashion. She pushed it away from her vision and smiled back at the Ranger, blue eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Uh, hi, Emmy. And um, hi, Vince. Thank you. A lot." Being slightly ineloquent, Quinn hoped she had given the right impression.

As the wind kicked up, Emmy's hair also blew into her face but the ranger let it be, smile still on her face. "Sorry for all the wind, let's go inside."
She took a few steps back inside the tent for the shelter from the wind and sighed in relief. The wind was really blowing today. Raising a hand, the blond pushed her hair from her face before turning and heading over to a few boxes in the corner. "Let me get you a starter pack and then we can go ahead and head out for your starter alright?" Rummaging through the boxes, she pulled out a few items and placed them into a paper bag. Turning back to Quinn, she walked over and held out the bag. "Here you are. One starter pack. That should have all that you need to start out on your journey. Do you know how to use a pokeball? Thought I might as well ask now before we head into the wind again." x 5 x 3 x1

Quinn automatically warmed to this Ranger. she seemed friendly and outgoing, exactly the type of person Quinn loved. She stood awkwardly as the Ranger dug through some boxes before emerging with a "starter pack". The immediate shelter of the tent from the wind was priceless; Quinn let out a small sigh of pleasure as her hair settled into a solid shape. She nodded as the Ranger talked and then accepted the bag when the Ranger held it out. "Umm... sort of? I know the theory, but I've never done it in practice. I just throw it at the Pokemon, right?" It was excruciating for Quinn to sound like such a newbie, but she was terrified of getting it wrong... what if she hit the Pokemon in the face and it got angry? What if she just threw it and nothing happened? Was there a certain arm technique, a certain angle for the ball to travel in? A gazillion frets and worries whizzed through Quinn's mind in a matter of seconds, and she nervously gripped the paper bag tighter, smiling nervously at the Ranger.

::Venusaur::
Emmy couldn't help but smile at Quinn's hesitance. Pulling an empty pokeball off her belt, one that they would probably use later to catch the girl's actual starter, she held it out in front of her. "It fine. That shouldn't happen but if it does don't feel too bad. Vince makes sure the pokemon is completely unconscious before he brings it back to that if things go wrong the pokemon won't escape or try to harm either of us."
Her blue eyes looked down at the sphere in her hands before beaming back up at the soon to be new trainer. "It's very simple. There are two main ways to do it, some like to say that one works better then the other but I have yet to see it. First is the simple toss into the air, the pokeball automatically registers already captured pokemon (don't ask me the science behind it). The second is to hold the center button before releasing it. Doesn't really matter either way." Placing the ball back on her pouch she glanced to the back flap. "Well guess we're off. Unless you'd prefer to stay here and just have Vince go. It's beautiful out there, but with the wind I thought I'd ask." Her blonde hair shifted slightly into her face as she turned her head back to Quinn. She however didn't bother to move it this time around. If they went outside it would just move back anyways.

Quinn felt extremely reassured. This Ranger had a sense of quiet authority and understanding; she obviously knew what she was talking about, and probably had quite a lot of achievements racked up for herself. But one thing was for sure; Quinn felt pretty safe right now. Safe and excited. Exhilarated. As the Ranger spoke, Quinn listened whilst fiddling with one of the five Pokeballs in the paper bag. Pressing it, revolving it in her hand, waving her arm in a throwing motion... When faced with a choice, the blonde teenager took a quick glance outside. It was still windy; the gusts of wind made whooping noises as it continued to push restlessly. But hey, she didn't want to stand there like a lazy lemon whilst the Venusaur went out by itself just for her sake. "Let's go outside, it'd be more interesting." Quinn chirped, walking straight out of the tent for the Ranger to follow, her confidence built up to a dangerously arrogant level now. She swung the paper bag as she walked, before stopping outside in the wind, wrapping her coat tighter around herself and waiting for the Ranger to appear.

Ranger Emmy beamed when the girl decided to go outside, and look, she was even leading. How nice. Usually she lead, how nice of her to subconsciously mix it up for her. Waving Vince to follow her, the duo trailed after Quinn out the back flap. The wind was picking up and blew hard against her side but she ignored it as Vince maneuvered his way to the side the wind was blowing from. Much like a shield of sorts.
Rubbing his head, she spoke to her partner though what she said exactly was hard to hear over the whooping wind. The Venusaur must have understood though for he walked away from the two girls and off the path between a few trees.
Emmy turned her attention back to the new trainer and shouted over the wind so she could hear clearly. "I told Vince to meet us over at High Ridge, I'll lead the way. It should block most the wind for us."
She waved the girl to follow and she herself stalked down one of the right paths that diverged from the back flap of the tent. Down the path, not far at all, was a rock face that stood fairly high in height. As they drew closer one could already feel the wind being blocked and the hearing level much more acceptable. It would be a few more minutes before a large shape emerged from the brush. Vince came up to the two females, a fainted Pokémon on it's back. Once he stopped in front of Em, he leaned, letting the unconscious form of a Shuppet land on the ground. "Oh my. Didn't expect that. Well, take this pokeball and off you go, just like I told you earlier." Once more, Ranger Emmy pulled out the pokeball but this time held it out for Quinn to take. ::Shuppet::

Quinn waited as the Ranger spoke to her Venusaur, the wind whipping her words out of earshot. The Venusaur trundled off, and with a final lingering, admiring glance, Quinn turned away from him and followed the Ranger naively. She had no idea where she was going; just walking as fast as she could behind the girl, working their way through the vegetation. When they got to a rock face, they stopped. The wind finally stopped whipping Quinn's face with blonde strands of hair; the rock face blocked it nicely. As they waited, the teen untied her hair to let it all tumble down, and then tied it back up again, collecting up all the loose strands and then finishing it off neatly. Conveniently, as her hands left her hair the Venusaur emerged again, and Quinn took a look at her first Pokemon. Some sort of ghost-thing... a Shuttit? A Shuckett? A Shuppet! It was a Shuppet! It was ghostly, and a little bit creepy... in a cute way. Oddly, Quinn liked it. After the words of advice from the Ranger, Quinn accepted the Pokeball gratefully, took a breath and swung her arm, the Pokeball soaring through the air towards the Pokemon.

::Venusaur::
The pokeball flew into the air, opening in a blaze of red color and sucked the poor unconscious pokemon into it's belly. Landing with a soft thud on the ground, the ball shook for a moment, as if the Shuppet inside was fighting to escape captivity before it stopped rocking. The button glowed a soft red and a distant pinging noise.
Emmy smiled as she bent down and help the pokeball out for the girl to take. "Here you are."
