How long has it been since he had been training here in the Cheyenne Region? Almost a full year now? Susumu looked out of the window of the trainer's lounge, a sweat rag wrapped right around his neck as he walked out of the gym. Hey, even he felt like he needed to train himself every now and then. Hitting the showers seemed like a good idea, but they looked rather crowded at the moment. This was a pretty popular place for both trainers and Pokémon alike, even his Geodude, Ken, had been with him lifting weights.
It wasn't enough to make the new Pokémon go up any levels, but it would help to build character. At least that's what he told himself, as he looked down at the Geodude that hopped by his feet, threatening to flatten Susumu's toes each time he hopped. Out of paranoia, he kept glancing down at the content Geodude, only to make sure that his toes were completely unharmed.
"Ken. Think we should sign up for a Pokémon Battle?" Susumu asked, a bit out of the blue. They had been training here for a while now, and he was finally feeling bold enough for a challenge. The Geodude looked up at his super tall human, thinking it over.
<I'm ready. First battle, how cool is that?!> Ken asked excitedly, starting to spin around in circles at the idea of battling another trainer. Susumu chuckled a little, leading his Geodude to the front desk where they applied for a battle field. A three on three battle? Sounded like fun, actually. No prizes other than levels for his Pokémon. As he walked to the outdoor battle arena, he couldn't help but feel that win or lose, it would be a good experience.

<<ftop>> Swinging his hips from side to side, Syl made a point of making sure he looked damn good as he walked into the trainer lounge. After all, he wasn't sure exactly who would be there to watch him, but he was sure someone would take notice. How could they not?
Head held high, nose in the air, Syl locked eyes with Susumu and let out a snort. "Is that your pokemon?" he motioned to the Geodude and snickered. "How quaint. How's that working out for you darling? Winning a lot of b-battles?" red-head managed to choke out the last words between his giggles.
Syl strode up to the desk confidently, flashing the female attendant a bright white smile. She wasn't particularly attractive, but she still politely smiled back.
"Put me down for Syl + 1, gorgeous," the man purred, making a point of looking back at Susumu.
She giggled. "Um, the sign-up sheet is right there, sir," she said.
"Oh."

I'M A SOLDIER THESE SHOULDERS HOLD UP SO MUCH THEY WON'T BUDGE {- I'LL NEVER FALL OR FOLD UP -} _______________________________________________ A trainer's lounge. Huh. Joshua didn't like people. By rule of thumb, his friends were Pokemon, and the rest of the world could suck it. It was hardly a kind outlook on life, but it was the one he'd had drilled into him by the way he'd been treated. Friends stabbed you in the back. Enemies were out for your blood. Everyone else would fall into either of the categories, and so in the end, hardly anyone could be trusted. That was how he saw things. "Eh. I'm bored, anyways," Joshua decided, shrugging slightly. "I mean, just 'cause we go in there, it doesn't mean that we have to talk to anyone." Eris, on his shoulder as usual, gave a noncommittal nod. She'd go where he went, the gesture said. So, deciding that he really had nothing better to do, he stepped inside. However, upon hearing that there was some sort of battle arena, he found himself outside again (after signing up of course). Maybe it would be fun to fight someone else. Someone was already there, with a Geodude. There was also a trainer with a Torchic. He gave them a nod, but didn't speak. Eris jumped down from his shoulder, ready for when the battle began. Susumu flinched when he saw an extravagant man with pink hair strut into the battle arena, suddenly feeling a disgusting chill roll down the back of his side. The man was a lot older than him, from what he could tell. Ken perked up once he realized that he was being mentioned, although he quickly caught on to the distaste in Syl's voice. Feeling pissed already, the Geodude started hopping up and down in a tantrum.
<Hey hey hey. Hold your tongue, you little sour puss!> The Geodude barked, waving his fist at Syl as if he was drunk in a case of road rage. Susumu looked at his Geodude, a bit annoyed, and started nudging the rock type with his foot. The first time it was a tap, and Ken didn't notice it at all. Then Susumu kicked the Pokemon, nearly breaking his foot in the process.
< *grumble grumble* It's my first battle. Give a guy a break.> The Geodude finally sputtered out, crossing his arms like a defiant child. Susumu sighed, feeling like he asked for too much today already. He tried his best to ignore the pink haired mans constant glances, but he found himself looking over at him. He was such a distraction, really.
"...alright. Three on Three battle. I'm Shamu, and this is my Geodude, Ken. I've never actually done this before, so whoever wants to make the first move..." Susumu trailed off, not really much of a leader. His Geodude moved closer to the middle of the battle arena, showing that he was actually ready to take on the Torchic and Glameow. If not ready, then stupid and willing.

I'M A SOLDIER THESE SHOULDERS HOLD UP SO MUCH THEY WON'T BUDGE {- I'LL NEVER FALL OR FOLD UP -} _______________________________________________ One of his opponents looked relatively average. The other was... well, to say the least, he seemed very odd. Josh coughed slightly under his breath to resist the urge to point this out. It was supposed to be a battle between their Pokemon, not the trainers themselves, and if he said even half the things he was often thinking... well, Joshua would certainly have much more enemies than he already did. Now, with that in mind. He didn't even bother giving them his name. Heck, they didn't need it to battle. All they needed was their Pokemon, and that would be enough. He certainly wasn't going to treat them any different than he treated everyone else. "I'll go first."He said the words with relative bluntness, his tone unreadable. It was clear he wasn't the most social guy, by far. "Eris, use Fake Out on the Geodude." His navy-furred companion, already raring to go for the fight, did not hesitate to rush toward the enemy. She made it appear that she was going to attack from above, then changed tactics last minute and swerved to the side to strike him. Eris used Fake Out on Ken!

Both trainer and Pokemon stood alert for whoever was about to make the first move. Susumu figured that it could be either the obnoxious guy to his right, or the normal looking one to his left. He held in an exasperated sight, hating this sense of not fully knowing what to expect or do. Trainer battles were known to be a lot different than Pokemon battles, and, well, he hadn't encountered that many Wild Pokemon. Ken was the only one he had to fight to get.
"Fake Out...?" Susumu whispered mostly to himself as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. There was something about that move that was special, but he couldn't remember what it did. Something...tricky.
<Ow! What in tarnation?!> The Geodude cried, expecting the attack from another direction and was fully prepared to dodge. However, seeing that it came from above, he was struck anyways and was sent into a fearful flinch.
"...oh. so that's what it does." Susumu said, a little dumbstruck about how that just happened. It was fast alright, and he sure hoped that Ken would be fast enough to keep dodging the rest, if they chose to use it again.

I'M A SOLDIER THESE SHOULDERS HOLD UP SO MUCH THEY WON'T BUDGE {- I'LL NEVER FALL OR FOLD UP -} _______________________________________________ The slightest hint of a smirk played on his thin lips as Eris' attack hit it's mark. He gave her a slight nod of approval, but didn't say anything. He didn't like to show his softer side around people, they always assumed it meant that he was weak. He prepared for the third participant of their battle to land a move on either of the Pokemon, fully ready to retaliate if need be. But when the older man cut himself off mid-sentence, Joshua cast a quick glance in their direction. Oh. Well. The Torchic had fallen asleep. It's trainer bumped the Chick Pokemon with his foot, which only caused it to run into the wall and knock itself out. Joshua blinked slightly in surprise. That was a bit too easy, he thought, smirking slightly at the words the red-haired man spoke. Out, and neither Eris nor the Geodude had played a part in it. Well. Turning his attention back to the battle, Joshua's expression hardened with concentration once again. What level was their opponent? He really wasn't sure. It had flinched, anyways, giving Eris more than enough time to attack again. Damn rock types and their sturdiness! A move like Scratch wasn't going to do much. "Growl, then Assurance," he told his navy-furred companion, who didn't even so much acknowledge the command with a nod before she let out a sickeningly sweet Growl, then lunged toward her opponent with the Dark-type move. Eris used Growl and Assurance on Ken!

It was true that the Glameow had gotten in the first move, and yes it was also true that the Assurance had struck against Ken pretty darn good. There was also the fact that this Glameow was twice his level, which he easily discovered after being easily knocked back wards like a toy ball. However, he was a rock. Rocks were very defensive, heavy, and sturdy. He growled as he got back up, straightening out his body on the ground so he was at least right side up.
"...Yikes. I wouldn't be surprised if that was your starter." Susumu commented, knowing it was better to hold his tongue so that there wouldn't be any hard feelings after the battle. Nothing to worry about if he lost; it only meant that Ken had to train harder.
"Let's see if you can hit it, Ken. Mega Punch." Susumu replied a bit optimistically, though not sounding over-cheerful because hey, the other guy lost without a single move being used on it, and he was the only one left. He was sort of hoping to tag team against the obviously stronger opponent but yeah, that wasn't going to happen.
Ken grunted in annoyance, trying hard to act tough and cool like his trainer, but only looking like a miffed little kid. The Geodude charged forward valiantly with a dense fist aimed at the elusive Glameow. Being growled against by her wasn't helping his power all that much though.

I'M A SOLDIER THESE SHOULDERS HOLD UP SO MUCH THEY WON'T BUDGE {- I'LL NEVER FALL OR FOLD UP -} _______________________________________________ Joshua smirked slightly. Well, the other trainer had hit the nail right on the head, hadn't he? Although Susumu was indeed correct, Josh gave him no confirmation of such except for the formation his lips took, a rather chilly air to the expression. 'Unfriendly' was an obvious character trait. He wasn't too fond of people, especially people whom he battled with first, then talked to later. Eris had managed to successfully hit her opponent, however, and his smirk grew more prominent. "Good work," the expression said wordlessly. He would speak to her only in battles with other Pokemon. The voice could hint at qualities, and so he felt that he should chat only when the battle was over. If he even stayed that long. Was it likely? Not really, to be honest. Shit, Mega Punch. He knew that Eris would not be able to dodge in time, and he also knew that it was her weakness. Hang in there, Eris! he thought, aching to say something. He didn't, however, and the navy-furred feline squared her shoulders, taking the hit bravely and only letting out a slight hiss of pain. It had hurt a lot more than she'd expected, but thanks to her dulling of his attack, it hadn't done as much damage as it could have. Still, she'd have to be careful. She hadn't really been expecting this. Cocky as the femme was, she'd sort of misjudged her opponent to be weaker than he was. On with the battle. "Assurance, again," Joshua commanded sharply. The cat Pokemon growled - though not in attack, merely in challenge - and lunged toward the rock-type with the commanded move. Eris used Assurance on Ken!

A little miffed that the other guy hadn't responded, Susumu gave the other trainer a questioning look as a strange expression crossed the other male's face. It was quite odd not knowing this guy's name, though he would've been better off never even meeting the pink haired guy, but here they were. Fighting. Training if you wanted to be more precise. The teenager grunted as he pretended to shrug the reaction off, as if he wasn't even phased.
'He's dedicated to the battle, that much I know for sure.' He thought to himself, knowing that he should be doing the same. Focusing on Ken instead of his social life, he heard the other trainer's next command. A second Assurance? The first one hadn't been all that pleasant, and he was positive that this one wouldn't be either. "Ken, block it with Defense Curl." He bit his tongue on this one, nervously waiting to see if the move would help Ken in the slightest.
A bit nervous at seeing the speedy feline dashing ever so gracefully towards him, the Geodude instinctively tucked his head in his arms to boost his defenses. Indeed, a thin layer of rock had formed over his body as if to prove that the move had worked. As he was struck, he was still tossed around like a soccer ball. Less damage, yes, but very painful nonetheless. The Geodude groaned as he slowly uncurled from his position, and feeling weak, merely went back down.
::geodude:: |Has Fainted.|
Ken and Jace gain a level. Eris gains two levels.
"Ah. You must've had a lot of time to train." Susumu commented, a bit upset at his loss, but still impressed with this other trainer's strength. There was a lot of catching up to do if he was ever going to get better than this guy. Taking out Ken's Pokeball, he returned the Geodude in silence, looking at the Pokeball with an affectionate stare. "Well. Later." He nodded towards both of the guys before leaving, since he obviously had no other purpose here.
