As the SS Marie moored in the harbor of the little town, Leon couldn't help but smile as he saw the Laboratory of Professor Winter on the hill ahead. He couldn't help but feel like a teenager again as he set his feet once again on solid ground. That was better; he'd been sick all through the journey.
Checking his watch, it was not yet noon. His appointment to pick up his new pokemon was in an hour, so he had time to get lunch.
So Leon turned to the little town and strolled through it. There were plenty of new trainers here, just having picked up their first pokemon and were busy running around, battling each other or turning bricks upside down in hopes of finding hidden bug pokemon. He rubbed his nose, figuring he'd soon be like that too. In less than an hour, even. Now that he looked around, he could see young coordinators training their starter pokemon to twirl, dance or (to most efforts, dreadful) sing.
He spotted a quiet terrace that played smooth jazz music and found himself immediately at home. Ordering something to drink and a sandwich, he sat down and read a folder he had picked up on the boat. It gave a detailed explanation of the area around here, in particular Route 01. That seemed to be the place to go. Also described were Professor Winters laboratory and the Ranger Station.
After finishing his lunch, Leon payed and thanked the waitress, getting up and making his way to the laboratory. He thought back about the letter he had send, and the one he had received back. How he had explained about his position, his desire to travel the world, learning about poison and pollution and also his age. After sending the letter, he'd been in a fit for weeks, waiting for the reply. He'd been convinced he'd be denied; told he was too old, or it was a silly thing to do. But the reply had been exceptionally kind and understanding. Professor Winter had invited him over to pick up a starter of his liking.
He arrived at the laboratory and went inside through the inviting open doors. "Hello, Professor?" He called out, impressed by the fine state of the laboratory. They could investigate everything about pokemon here. "It's Leon, I have an appointment for my first pokemon." He added, fiddling with his glasses higher on his nose.
Looking at the colorful images of the available pokemon on the wall, the choice was easy for him. A poison type, of course. OOC: Sorry for the title name. It would make a good shounen-ai anime name, wouldn't it? <3

Professor Winter
Before Leon entered the lab, all Professor Winter was content with was staring up at the clock idly as he took a brief break from his studies. There was always so much to catch up on in the Pokémon world, that his mind was constantly exhausted. He could hardly have the time to read Pokemon Science Weekly, a well established journal from multiple research organizations across the globe. All his mind wanted to focus on was the repetitive simpleness of the 'tick-tock-tick' from the old grandfather clock by his bookshelf.
"Leon? Leon..." Professor Winter mumbled, trying to put a person to that name. Then he finally recalled its vagueness, through the haze of knowledge that hovered about in his mind. He got up and entered the main lobby, where all of the posters were held. First room to walk into, really.
"Have you decided on a Pokémon yet, Leon?" He asked, temporarily forgetting his last name. He assumed that formalities could be pushed aside for now, at least. Either way, he wasn't looking forward to using his first name, so any attempt to find out would be ignored.

Unfortunately for the Professor, Leon White was a type who cared a little too much about formalities. "You must be Professor Wint, a pleasure to meet you." He said, holding out his hand to shake the others. He pushed a few strands of greasy black hair from his forehead and offered the other a gentle smile. "Thank you for the reply on my letter." He added with a gentle nod of his head.
"Well, I have given it some thought. A poison type would fit me best. And I read.." He took out a pocket encyclopedia on poison type pokemon- "That you carry both of these?" He inquired, showing the professor the image of a Bulbasaur first, and then the one of an Oddish. or

"Winter," corrected Professor Winter, but then got down to business, deciding to explain the differences between the two grass Types. "Well, with Bulbasaur, you get a very simple, but powerful Pokémon. It learns Vine Whip, Solar-beam, Leech Seed and Razor Leaf, among others. However, Oddish has a lot more variety, as once it becomes a Gloom, you can evolve it into either a Vileplume or a Bellossom, giving you more to work with. Professor Winter pulled out a few pictures as he spoke.

Leon listened carefully as the other explained it. He noticed Winter was quite some years younger than he was, but still educated well. Good. He liked that in people. Adjusting his glasses, he glanced over each type.
"I believe that the Oddish' evolution line has the most diversity in poison, while the Bulbasaur's line is the more potent?" He knew both pokemon could handle using the strongest type; Toxic, very well.
Then Leon noticed Professor Winter had the latest edition of Pokemon Science Weekly with him. His eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise. "Is that the latest issue?" He asked with the eager excitement that only meant he wanted to browse through it. OOC: Durr Leons name is White. Nevermind that mistake, entirely mine xD

Prof. Winter sighed. "They're both great Starters. It's up to you to decide, even if I tell you more about them it's up to you and what you want." He said. Walking away for a minute he went in the back to get the Pokeballs. Awaiting the kids choice he waited before he unlocked the door to hear what he wanted. Hearing the question he smiled and said, "Yes it is."

Leon took some time considering each type. It seemed Professor Winter wasn't as enthusiastic about pokemon as he had thought. A little odd, as he knew the man had published a lot of works about them.
As he was offered the issue of Pokemon Science Weekly, he browsed through it and smiled. "Heh...my article." He mused, rubbing his chin. After being lost in thought a moment, he showed it to the other. "Sorry." He added a sheepish smile. There was an article there on the effects of Toxics on marshes. By Leon White. He would have liked to ask the professor about the article he had written last year on the effects of poison types when inbreeding different species. But as Winter frowned, he simply rubbed his nose, blushing a little.
"Right, well. I think I'll go for the Bulbasaur. Their pretty outgoing and brave pokemon, or so I hear. Something that will fit a held-back person as me well, I would assume." He mused, looking at two pokeballs Professor Winter was holding.
OOC: Sorry I took some loyalties on this post, because I didn't have much to work with and we wanted this finished quickly... Also; Leon is 32, Professor Winter is in his twenties. He can hardly call him a 'kid'. Leon asked a serious question about poison types. If I were to rp my characters personality out right now, he won't leave until he gets an answer. Why? Because he's a scientist and prefers logical choices. But alas, I'll go with it. I sure hope this doesn't happen too often though...

Professor Winter ! Winter stood and held the door to the back open with his body, considering the man's musings. "You're quite right about that. Bulbasaurs, with their stout, strong bodies, are more confident in defending other pokemon than Oddish, who are more frail. But this is probably elementary to you." He explained, smiling with embarrassment; he was a far younger scientist than Leon, yet he was speaking to him as if his opinion mattered.
Knowing that that answer was probably not sufficient enough, he continued: "A held back person, you say? I'd definitely recommend Bulbasaur in that case. They grow into massive beasts, holding more physical strength than Vileplume or Bellossom. However, if you were more interested in speed and long range, the latter would be your best bet. You seem to me more like the sort who would enjoy Venusaur's brawn."
Professor White was unused to explaining so much of this verbally, since trainers practically never thought so logically about the pokemon they chose, and so felt his tongue dry up as he was speaking. He'd have to take a long drink of water after this.
Aiming a friendly smile toward Leon, he awaited the scientist's choice.

Leon listened carefully to the professor's explanation and nodded. He smiled at the other, thankful he was given this logical conclusion.
"Yes, I think a bulbasaur would fit me well." He concluded, taking out a notebook and scribbling down what the other had said. Always eager to learn, it seemed.

Professor Winter
Professor Winter gave a relieved smile when he heard the trainer's decision, glad to hear that he made up his mind. Appointments were usually small here, and at the max, lasted up to 10 minutes. Already, there was someone knocking at the door. He gave a look to Leon as if to say 'wait here' while he went to the back cupboard, taking out a Starter Pack with a chibi Bulbasaur face on the front. It was simple, but cute.
He fluffed it out a bit before taking out the Pokeball from it, only to make sure it was the correct Pokemon. Peering through the red at the top, he saw the shape of a Bulbasaur through the sphere. Once content, he carried the entire bag properly over to Leon, extending it out for his greedy hands to claim.
"I've always enjoyed this Pokemon myself, honestly." He said with a laugh, always taking a second to admire the breeder's Venasaur whenever they came over to drop off new Starter Pokemon. It was a nice set up within the pack, pretty much everything a trainer needed in the first route.

Leon couldn't have been more grateful. He smiled broadly as he took the bag and the pokeball. He too looked inside the ball, the little bulbasaur looking back at him sternly. Then Leon smiled and shook the Professors hand. "Thank you, mister Winter. I'll keep you updated on the little guys progress." He promised before carefully putting away both items and pokemon and turning to the door.
With a last glance back at the professor, he left the laboratory.
