Okay, a mechanic that we don't really have is a way to reproduce berries. The only way we get them is from achievements and from random drops. Solution? We have the Sol Ranch, so why not a Berry Farm?
Mechanics:
There would be different classifications of berries, like common and uncommon. We have bulbapedia for that. This determines how long it takes for a berry to grow and produce berries.
You can only plant one berry at a time. This is to prevent spam/monopolization. It will cost an amount for the farm to grow your berry (1.5k?).
After the cooldown time determined by the berry, the user can claim their berries. The yields are on bulbapedia.
There will be a sold key item for 20k or so called the Wailmer Pail, it increases berry yield and shortens time for the berry to be planted.
This way, berries can be a part of the economy and berries aren't so finicky/unreliable in how you get them.

Sounds very mature and acceptable and totally not abusable by me and my insane desire for pinkan berries -cough-Seriously though I don't think it's not too bad an idea...though I think if it were done perhaps we could evil and make is seasonal? :'D Since you know, winter and fall aren't really prime times for berry picking / growing. and super massive greenhouses able to supply an entire region with berries totally don't exist... xD Probably various costs for the berries would be best as well imo. That way the more useful / uncommon ones don't flood the market and people with retarded ideas like mine could never easily obtain an army of pink pokemon ;-;. And now that i've add extra confusingness to your idea I will vanish again~ -poof-

Seasonal is a bad idea, since it goes by real time the seasons stay for too long and it'll cause high bubbles of collapse. The varying cost idea sounds nice, but I wouldn't make it stupidly expensive.

I like this idea. However, I'd make the limit of planting berries 1 every two days. The cost of planting should stay, of course. :3

I like it, but I'd be inclined to say 2 plantings per week, and no guarantee of success.

I'm not that inclined to add berry farms because first of all, the usage of berries is rather finicky, and really, you get enough of the berries you really need. There is no real use for them, so I wouldn't bother. It's too much trouble for something not enough people are going to use.
If it is used, i would keep it seasonal, maybe have it as a special event during the summer months to try it out. Because really, what do you use berries for, and how often? With now you are kind of allowed to 'generate' food from your bag to feed your pokemon to heal them. If the berries were added, I would be inclined to just get rid of that healing option because 'hey, you can plant your own, herpderp'.
tldr;; I'm against it.

I'm against not 100% success rate, you could then lose a rare berry. You're ALREADY paying money and waiting for the berry to be cultivated...just to lose it and your benefits. That's not very fair.
I agree with the two plantings per week.
Some people will develop/need the berries for strategies. You don't get that many berries when pokemon automatically eat them as held items. Some berries function as strategy keys such as rest + chesto. There are other uses for them besides "lol food".

It's a nice idea, Jubjub, but do we really even use berries? o-o; I never used one, once, ever. XD Maybe if like there was more uses for berries then maybe it would go through but the only thing berries are good for is to say 'oh yeah, I has a Pecha berrie, yay me! noob' XD
the idea it self is great though :3 nice thinking if we used berries XDD

I thought of a simpler solution.
Have a shop in the deluxe pokemart that sells all berries for a reasonable price. that way, we don't have to have a whole new system for "useless" berries. Which, by the way, some people do rely on berries for moves. I don't want any arguments saying.
"Well, you're the only one who uses/cares about berries."
What about the pokemon sold in shops that no one wants? Or the items no one buys? Should they be removed too? Some people DO rely on berries, so they should be in stores or have some reliable method of getting them. Selling them in the forest city wouldn't be bad.

I'm not saying that you should lose the Berry you have. By all means, dig it up and shove it back in your inventory if the plant fails to sprout. But 1500 is a bit cheap when it can be earned back in less than 20 posts, and are already available as dropped items or Mystery Pic prizes.

You need a 100% success rate if your going to pay and I'm against paying. I don't really understand why you would have to pay to plant a berry. In that game you don't, so why here? It wouldn't really make sense. So here is my solution.
Planting berries is free to do and the success rate is 100% but you need two things. One, the berry and two the wailmer thing which is 20,000. Without the wailmer thingy you cannot plant berries.
Planting berries comes with a time wait. The time waiting depends on the berry itself and the amount you roleplayed planting the berry. Common = 1 days. Uncommon = 2 days (-1 Day for every 500 words you post) Rare = 3 days (-1 Day for every 1000 words you post) So basically you are bringing in the roleplay vibe into you. You can make your pokemon help you bury the damn berries and such.
Now, Arionne was saying all you would use the berries for is to feed your pokemon and stuff like that. Here is a solution. You could have a shop that trades you stuff for the berries you grow. They could look for a certain type of berry (maybe three oran berries for example) for a certain item or pokemon, or they could look for a certain amount of berries from the same or different rarity (three rare and five uncommon berries). This would cheer you on to plant berries and such.
tldr (what does that even mean?); im for this as long as you don't have to pay, have a success rate that is 100%.

But....you'll end up paying for the wailmer pail anyways. Which means you'll be paying. I don't care how, we just need a good and consistent way of getting berries past maybe mystery picture and achievements.
P.S. Tl;dr means Too Long; Didn't Read. It's a short version of something so people can get the point.
The trade the berry thing in for items was in the games, I'd approve that. Though, a simpler solution would be to just make them purchasable in the shop if the admins don't want to implement a new system for "unimportant berries" when some people use them and find them important.

If you basically want cheap berries that can be earned by simply putting em in the ground for a few posts and paying a cheap enough price. Even 20K can be earned back with a day of spam or a lot of RPing. I'm OK with 60 or 70% chance of germination, but the fact is that wanting berries cheap and with 100% growth rate just seems a little greedy. Breeding has drawbacks and the possibility of failure, so why shouldn't this.
tl;dr: I like it but it seems too easy. I'd like some risk.

Actually, i am a tiny bit against the % germination rate and all that, as it makes it harder to keep track. Maybe we could add a berry shop, and not bother with the plantation. We are very behind in a bunch of the items, even from gen4.
We've been thinking of adding the newer items in the future anyways, so maybe just add a berry shop, and everyone's happy?

Agreed, I propose we add a shop for berries then. The rarity determines the price.

Yay for berry shop solution~! r.i.p. horde of pinkan berries. You would have been missed.
Sounds like a solid idea to me. =D Especially since this way I wont feel like a jerk for ignoring the move natural power. Just a cheapskate instead for refusing to buy berries. XP

Natural Gift*, it's 1/2 of the reason that inspired me to suggest this. I got it as a TM for the contest, but realized there's no consistent way to keep berries .

...I can imagine the berry shop keeper haggling over the price of berries for some reason.
The berries wouldn't be that expensive, considering the one time use, but a shop would be good. Third City would actually suit it too, considering all of the plant life around it.
Basically Spirit approves.

Berry shop added to third city. Price ranges from 300 to 500, and cheaper if you go for random berries.
Enjoy.
