Nathara gave the other trainer a grateful smile, before following him into the empty room. While she wasn't a very social person, having a pokemon battle with someone whom you had exchanged pleasantries with first was more enjoyable that fighting with a complete stranger. Anima followed, walking close to Daichi. The psychic had taken a liking to the sandshrew. Then again, Anima took a liking to almost everyone she encountered. Vexant, being his fearful, paranoid self, lagged behind.
"A double battle sounds nice. Anima and Vexant just finished convincing me to let them fight again."
Well, Vexant hadn't really wanted to fight in the first place, but that was beside the point. She needed to improve this bug's confidence if he was going to become a proficient battler.
Anima, noticing that the nincada was sulking in the doorway, walked over and began to coax him into a position in the middle of the room. It was a difficult process, but in a few minute's time the two pokemon were standing in battle ready positions.

One their way over to the battle room, Susumu gave Nathara a weird look, as if surprised that she had to be 'convinced' to train her Pokemon. Walking through the doorway, he turned curiously to see what the commotion was and saw that the Nincada hadn't been all that eager to fight. He was never one to catch a Pokemon that didn't want to fight, so he wondered what her reasons were for training such a creature. "Ah, I should pick my second one, huh?" He mused to himself, playing with two Pokeballs in his right hand. Which one, which one? Daichi was his weakest, level wise, so he should use a stronger one to back him up a little. He finally decided on the Chinchou, after giving a thoughtful last second scan of his Pokedex on the two Pokemon. The Chinchou appeared rather quietly next to the fired up Sandshrew, both appearing eager for some activity. <Vexant! Anima~! We're ready, ya hear?> Daichi called, waving his arms energetically at the two. He was surprised that he remembered their names, but he heard them said out loud more than once. Repetition made things easier to know, he supposed. "Michi, Daichi. Time to show them what you can do. Captivate and Scratch." He commanded, thinking that it would have been ok to make the first move. She had both of her Pokemon out, after all. The Chinchou started to glow with pretty pink and purple colors, one that could make any Pokemon of the opposite gender stop and stare. Daichi could care less about something so frivolous, and went for a Scratch attack on Vexant. ::sandshrew:: |Level 5| Uses Scratch on Vexant

Anima focused on the blue pokemon named Michi as the attacks were ordered. Her Trace ability proved itself useful for the first time, as it managed to copy her opponent's Volt Absorb. She didn't linger on this for long, however, because at that moment the chinchou started to glow prettily. The colors were so attractive! Usually she didn't care what a pokemon looked like outwardly, but he was fascinating! How could she injure something so handsome?
Vexant went wide-eyed as the other pokemon ran towards him, claw raised to attack. He was about to flee when he realized something.
<Hey, we're the same size! I'm the same size of both of them! There's no monstrously huge bug flying around.>
Not having enough time to doge, he fell into a defensive position before the attack landed, deflecting a small amount of the damage. He might be able to do this!
Nathara nodded slowly, observing the battle as the first turn played out. Nothing too serious yet.
"Vexant, use Harden and then Leech Life on Daichi. Anima, use Growl and Confusion, also on Daichi."
Anima was the first to jump into action, growling cutely at the sandshrew before gathering up a wave of psychic energy. It was pitifully weakened, due to the Captivate attack, but it was there none the less. Vexant followed his partner's lead, stiffening his muscles to improve his defense against physical damage. Once the ralts' energy had cleared the air, he ran towards Daichi, small mouth opened in preparation for the blood-draining move.

There was something strange about the Ralts as soon as Michi was let out; something he couldn't quite figure out. 'I'm probably just imagining it.' He thought, directing his attention to the things that stood out to him. Such as, the battling that was going on between the two ground types. Nathara was smart to have the bug use Harden, but it would've been better if he used it before Daichi's scratch hit it. "You're quicker than some bug, Daichi. Defense Curl before it hits." He commanded, taking things one at a time. That Confusion wouldn't be fazed by the physical defensive move, but Leech Life would gradually do nothing. If they kept using it. The Sandshrew was naturally tough against physical moves in the first place, his body resembling thick armor that hardly let the bug's sharp teeth penetrate through. In his Defense Curl, he felt a sting as some pain was sucked out of him. His ears perked up at the Growl, as well as Michi, seeing that this was a double battle. The two felt their attack lower a tad from the adorable sounding growl, to Susumu's dismay. The Confusion sent Daichi into a panic as he was spun around, quickly getting out of his defense curl with the urge to hurl. He wasn't confused...but felt sick. ugh. "Don't let it phase ya. Scratch on Anima. Michi. Go for Bubble on Vexant." Susumu responded, never liking to reveal their strongest moves at the very beginning of a fight. Actually, some status moves would've given them a good deal of protection, but it was too late to really worry about that. Daichi took some wobbly steps closer to the Ralts, then quickly covered his mouth, holding in the urge to retch. Once it was kept down, he made a mad dash to the psychic type with claws ready to strike. Michi took the lazy turn, seeing that he was completely safe after that first turn. A loose stream of Bubbles was sent at the ground type, trying to lower its speed. ::chinchou:: |Level 8| Uses Bubble on Vexant

Vexant let out a content sigh as a very small portion of his health was healed, but returned to his usual cowering self as a vicious stream of bubbles was shot towards him, his small spark of courage gone. Water! How horrible! The part ground type absolutely loathed the stuff. In a desperate attempt to get away, his legs slipped on the smooth floor, and his body fell a couple inches to the ground. It didn't hurt at all, but there was no way to escape the attack now. The bubbles impacted lightly on his shell, splashing water all over his body. The moisture stung with the pain of a tackle.
Anima didn't have any time to focus on the bug, because she had her own opponent to deal with. Despite her higher level the sandshrew wasn't any slower than herself. Her loose, robe-like legs did nothing to help, and the pokemon's claws hit their mark. She repositioned herself to remove some weight from her now injured leg, and took the damage silently.
"Good job, guys. Lets do a repeat."
There was no reason to switch from the move combination that they had used earlier. If they could down that sandshrew early on, then they could both team up on Michi.
Both pokemon acknowledged the command, and fell into the same motions that they did before. Anima started with an endearing growl, as Vexant continued to boost his defense. Then the psychic gathered together another weak Confusion attack, focusing it at Daichi. This was followed by Vexant charging forward again, his mouth open greedily.
::ralts:: Anima uses Growl and Confusion on Daichi.
::nincada:: Vexant uses Harden and Leech Life.

The Captivate helped to weaken the Ralt's confusion a lot. It was most likely the only thing that was keeping Daichi in the game at this point, taking both attacks with a weak growl, trying to resist the urge to throw up once more. Confusion itself had not settled over the ground type's mind, as it was after all, only a rare side effect from the move. He struggled to his feet, weak eyes scanning both of his opponents. <Michi, you're slacking.> He huffed, not pleased with the Chinchou lounging about like he was. The Sandshrew did not appreciate what the water type did in the first few turns, but only because he hadn't noticed. Michi scoffed at this comment, bulbs brimming with electricity to prove his worth to the Sandshrew. "Easy, easy guys. Scratch and Captivate on Anima." He commanded, having yet another basic strategy in his mind. Michi glowed yet another distracting color, hopefully lowering the Ralt's special attack while Daichi went in for the Scratch. As a stupid, stupid afterthought, he decided to try and paralyze the creature as well. "Thunderwave on Anima, Michi." Susumu looked at the Ralts again, aware that the move would have no effect at all on Vexant. So why not try using it on the psychic type, the one that looked the strongest? Michi agreed with the move selection, creating a weak dose of electricity and shot it out at the Ralts.

Vexant jumped aside as both opponents focused their attention on the ralts, glad for the short break. He could sit idly until their attacks were over, and conserve some energy for his next attack. A small seed of guilt nestled into his mind, but he shook it away. Anima was strong, she could handle it.
The psychic braced herself for Daichi's Scratch, because once again she didn't have enough time or speed to dodge. The claws cut into the green area on her head, but the cuts weren't deep enough to cause any severe damage. Being a higher level than your opponent had it's advantages. After the sandshrew had finished his attack, she turned to Michi. The chinchou was glowing those beautiful colors again! So lovely...
A part of her mind screamed that this would only drop her power further, but there was no way to escape the effect. She shook her head to clear some of the fuzz that had accumulated once the glow had ended, and waited as the electric type powered up whatever he was going to throw at her. His orb-like growths grew brighter, and a wave of electricity was thrown at her. She wondered if she should get out of the way, but the same part of her mind that had spoken earlier suggested that she stay. The crackling wave of energy flew threw the air then was absorbed into her body.
It was as if she had just taken a weak potion. The two scratch wounds were instantly a little less painful, and some of the energy she had expended with her own attacks was restored. So that's the ability she had absorbed from Michi!
Nathara stared at the ralts for a moment, utterly confused. What just happened? The attack had healed her? She took her pokedex out, and scanned Anima. She scrolled down the page of information until it came to abilities.
Trace - Special Ability becomes the same as opponent.
She smiled, the mystery becoming a little clearer. Obviously the chinchou, who was an electric type, not only had an immunity to electric moves, but was healed by them. Anima had copied that ability.
"Vexant, use Scratch on Daichi. Anima, Growl and Confusion."
That small bonus had boosted both of their spirits, and they launched into their counterattack with a little more energy than before. Vexant took a break from his weaker Leech Life, and simply ran over to the fellow ground type with one of his clawed legs raised to attack. Anima growled sweetly, but felt that her throat was getting a little sore from using the move so many times in a row. It was difficult to gather together enough psychic energy to attack, because the two Captivates had seriously lowered her special attack. The one she managed to scrape together barely had enough power to shoot towards it's target.

Susumu also looked at his Pokedex curiously, pretty much at the same time Nathara did to figure out what the heck just happened. Ralts weren't supposed to get healed from moves like that. Only his Chinchou could, because of that ability of his. Turns out that the Psychic type was sneaky and managed to pick the best one of his two Pokemon. Figures. "Daichi. Dodge!" He cried a bit too slow, as the Sandshrew was pummeled from both attacks. The Ralt's Confusion was very, very weak, but Vexant's Scratch attack was enough to do him in. Plus, he felt sick. Very, very sick from that spinning business. Susumu sighed as he watched the Sandshrew go down, and silently returned him to his Pokeball. "Good try. Now Michi, let's see if we can fix this." He looked nervously at the Chinchou, not worried about losing, but concerned about Michi's emotional welfare. He wouldn't chicken out, right? Not when they were this far. They even had a type advantage on their side, and from what he could see, that ground type had no ground type attacks. "Supersonic on Anima. Then, focus your Bubbles on Vexant. And please, for the love of God, don't make a repeat of Route One." He said with an exasperated sigh, recalling the little issue they had involving a Bubble and Supersonic. Except these two moves would be in two different directions, so that worked out. The Chinchou yodeled out some high pitched sounds at the Ralts, trying to get her confused so he could focus on the Nincada. Then, forcing himself to turn around, the fish shot out a weak spray of bubbles at the bug. ::sandshrew:: Has fainted. {Daichi gains a level. Anima and Vexant gain a level.}

Nathara silently congratulated her two pokemon as Daichi fell unconscious. One down, one to go. Michi was going to be harder, if only due to the chinchou's higher level. It also had a type advantage against Vexant. If the bug was knocked out too early, Anima might not be able to finish off Michi with her severely weakened Confusion attack.
Anima grimaced as the familiar sound wave passed through her, the disorientating sound entering her ears. Memories of the previous battle momentarily flooded her mind, threatening to break her concentration on the battle. What if they lost?
No, they couldn't lose! It was two against one! To lose now would be absolutely humiliating.
The world around her started to spin oddly, and lights of different colors blinked in her vision. Where was she? Where was the chinchou that she had been fighting? There was a blue blob over there...
Vexant stared at his partner. What was wrong with her? The ralts was spinning around on the spot she was standing, arms stretched out like she was blindly searching for something.
Nathara sighed, recognizing the signs of confusion. She had never witnessed it before, but she knew what to look for. The stream of bubbles stole their attention from the confused psychic, however.
It was too late for Vexant to dodge, and he was bombarded by the dreaded water, eyes squeezed shut in fear. The painful liquid splashed onto his shell, and his muscles burned.
"C'mon you two, stay focused. Use Leech Life, Vexant. Anima, use Confusion."
Growl and Harden would both be useless, considering that they dealt with physical damage. Right now, it was best that they centered their efforts on dealing as much damage as possible. Vexant hesitated a second, glancing uncertainly at Anima before running at the chinchou. If he managed to hit the water type, a small amount of his health would be restored, lengthening the time he could continue battling. Anima, no matter how hard she tried, could not relocate the blue blob she assumed was her target. Giving up on that, she just fired a weak confusion wave in a random direction.
::ralts:: Anima is confused. Uses Confusion.
::nincada:: Vexant uses Scratch.

Susumu hissed in annoyance as the 'random Confusion' was sent in his direction. He made a comical jolt as he ducked over the psychic blast, looking up nervously as the colored energy almost grazed him. This only proved that confusion on long distance opponents was not the best of ideas. But it kept Michi from getting attacked, right? Not right. Michi was still hit by the Leech Life, and having a peculiar weakness to physical strikes, he couldn't help but cry out as the bug bit him. Was it trying to eat him or something? Sure enough, it felt as if something inside of him was being eaten up, and it was the most uncomfortable feeling he had ever felt. <Personal space...bud.> He grumbled, shaking rapidly in an attempt to loosen the Nincada's hold on him. "Supersonic on Vexant. Then Use Bubble on him." He commanded, not sure what the risks were with this Pokémon. Was there a chance of the two confused Pokémon attacking each other? Now that would have been funny. Ish. Michi not so humbly obeyed the commands, shouting out high frequency sounds as soon as he heard the command, not knowing if the Nincada was shaken off before or after the move was used. If that wasn't enough, it was about to get another dose of Bubble anyways. He shot out another weak dose of bubbles, still a bit upset that he couldn't use Shock Wave anymore. Vexant felt the flow of health as he drained some of the chinchou's blood. Michi must have had a weakness to physical attacks, because this was much more effective than when it was used on Daichi. When he heard the beginnings of a Supersonic attack, he hastily released his grip. This allowed him to narrowly avoid the dangerous move. He wasn't so lucky with the stream of bubbles.
Why did he agree to this battle? Why did he agree to go up against a water type? The dreaded water softened his shell, and entered the small cracks on his surface, searing the soft tissue underneath. At least Leech Life had granted him a little health, which was probably the only reason he was still conscious.
Anima gazed around blearily, still not able to make heads or tails of her surroundings. When she didn't feel the pain of an attack, she assumed that the target was now Vexant.
Nathara gave a relieved sigh as the other trainer managed to dodge the weak Confusion attack. It probably wouldn't have hurt too badly, but it might have confused him. A confused trainer wasn't much help to his pokemon during battles.
"Sorry! Um, Vexant, use Leech Life. Anima, Confusion."
Vexant took advantage of his close proximity to Michi, and ran forward to drain some more health. Anima, still confused, not only missed her target completely, but somehow hit herself in the leg. The weakened energy, powered down still further by her natural resistance, meant that she barely felt the damage. It still stung, though.

More health was sucked away and Michi could not help but feel desperate when he saw the Nincada sink his fangs into his flesh. He yelped at the stinging sensation, thrashing about in uncomfortable silence as his energy was slowly sucked out of him. He needed this parasite, no offense to Vexant, off of him as soon as possible! "Bubble it. You're tough, remember?" Susumu encouraged, his eyes sparking with a sudden intensity as the battle became one of stamina, the two Pokemon trying to stay in the game as long as possible. Anima was of course derping around, but he didn't pay much attention to her. Her Confusions would have been pretty harmless by now, that is, if Michi could keep his health. <Off! Please!> The Chinchou shouted, his voice turning distorted as bubbles flew out of his mouth. He shot the steady stream at the Nincada, wondering if their brief one on one would ever end. ::chinchou:: Hit by Leech Life Uses Bubble on Vexant

Vexant felt a portion of his lessening health return to him, but his relief was short-lived. Another stream of bubbles knocked him onto his back, where he strugguled for only a moment before blacking out. He had fought much harder than he had intended to, but he was simply too weak to fight this stronger opponent.
The battle wasn't over yet, however, because just then Anima snapped out of her confusion. The world came back into focus, and she found herself once again facing the chinchou.
<That wasn't a pleasant experience!>
The thought, while not intended to reach anyone else, traveled through the weak connection between her and Nathara's minds. The human laughed silently at the exclamation, glad that the ralts was finally thinking straight again.
"Confusion, Anima!"
Determined to make up for the lost turns, the psychic focused her energy and sent a faint wave at Michi. It was frustrating how much Captivate had effected her power, but there was no alternative move available to her.

ooc: I think I might have derped on the levels earlier. Instead of Anima and Vexant gaining +1 levels from beating Daichi, they gain +2 for winning the battle. So just snap an extra level on them. >.> Sorry, I was trying to do what Ari did. I'm used to adding them after the battle is done. Nevermind I was right the first time. They split the 2 for ganging up on Daichi. bic: Once Vexant was out of the picture, it became an even one on one battle between the Special Attack lowered Ralts, and the weakened Chinchou. He could see it; Michi had taken some good hits from that Nincada, which had proved to be a good fighter against a water type. Now all that was left was to see which Pokémon had the most stamina-- his Chinchou, or Nathara's Ralts? The thought occurred to him that her Pokémon could have higher levels, but Captivate was even better at evening the playing field. Michi also seemed pretty tough against Special Attacks without Captivate on his side, from his experience with the Pokémon. As the Confusion twirled around to Michi, he ended up getting caught in it. Hey, fish out of water. He's not likely to be going places. He took the move like a champ, grunting in acknowledgment of the attack. It had hurt, yes, but he felt as if he could last a bit longer. Holding in his breath, he finally exhaled a Bubble attack at the Ralts. Hey, not like there was anything else he could do at this point. Anima was hit by the bubble, which didn't do nearly as much damage as it had done to Vexant, but it still hurt. She braced herself for the order that she knew would come.
Nathara knew that this would be a test of endurance. Anima was slightly healthier than Michi at this point, but her attack was pitifully low on power. There was nothing for it, they would just have to exchange moves until one or the other finally gave in. She was just about to call out the only command available to her when the lights fluttered then went out.
What the...?
She looked towards the other trainer.
"Let's just call this a tie, alright? I'm not sure how long this blackout will last, but we won't be able to heal our pokemon. We should just wait until the lights come back on."

When the lights went out, Michi instantly stopped his attack and looked around nervously, wondering whether this was supposed to happen or not. He never had a battle in here when the lights went out in such a fashion. Concerned, the Chinchou turned to Susumu for further instruction, figuring that he would have a better idea than he would. Something about the shockwave made the electric type feel funny, as if his main source of power had weakened slightly. It made him feel nauseous, actually. Susumu seemed to be feeling the same effects, looking a bit dizzy and confused when the power went out. "A tie...um, right. I'm fine with that. You need me to walk you out or something?" He asked, noticing that it was pretty dark in here. So much, that Michi had instinctively used his Illuminate ability to bring a bit of light into the room.

Nathara watched the trainer and his pokemon with some concern as they both displayed signs of dizziness and disorientation. Michi's reaction was understandable, considering that he was part electric type, but the human's was confusing.
It isn't important.
She went to call Anima back into her ball, but noted with surprise that the device was emitting sparks. Was it safe to use? The ralts wasn't seriously injured, so she could stay outside of her pokeball until this situation was rectified.
"No, no, I think I'll be able to find my way."
With that, the two exited the battle room. Anima, still shaking off the effects of confusion, stayed close to her trainer. This blackout seemed wrong, somehow, as if something more important than an energy failure had happened. This foreboding was shared silently between human and psychic as they made their way outside.
(OOC: I think I'll have Nathara exit the thread now. Feel free to finish it up.)
