(OOC: This is a battle between Nathara and Soren. However, you can jump in if you want, and challenge one of us afterwards!)
Nathara walked into the lounge, and took in the scene before her. There was a group of chairs clustered together in one area, with a few people talking lazily. There were a few potted plants and other decorations to make the place feel more comfortable, and the air was a little cool. In front of her was a desk, behind which sat an assistant, probably there to control which trainers were in the battle rooms. Shyly, she walked up to the woman.
"Hello, may I rent a battle room, please?"
She had all of her Pokémon with her, healed and ready for battle. It was scary how strong Razel was getting, so maybe it would be best to train one of the others, like Vexant. Actually, Vexant needed experience the most right now.
"Of course, just wait in there."
The attendant pointed behind her at one of the open doorways. Nathara nodded.
"Thank you."
She walked into one of the rooms, and gave it a quick scan while she waited for an opponent. It was a white-washed room that was large enough to allow for a two on two battle, of one was desired. The whiteness was a little blinding, but eventually her eyes got used to it.
Now I wait, I guess.

Soren did not like the fact that he had to train his flock. He did not like the idea that strength was such an important component of a pokemon battle and an under leveled pokemon, no matter how skilled the trainer was, is not going to be sufficient. And so these anonymous battles it was, in those ugly, glaring, closed off rooms.
The trainer was led into the blinding white room as well. He barely took the time to acknowledge the other trainer and simply waited for the other one to release her pokemon. This was a room she had opened, so she had the right to choose what kind of battle this was going to be. Soren just hoped that it wasn't going to be too harsh, that her pokemon wasn't going to be too overlevelled. He needed to train his weaker ones and learn new moves for the contests, if he was ever going to be a decent coordinator. His fighters could hold their own and with a few more levels, succeed well, but Soren did now know how he was ever going to fare against a top coordinator.
Standing on the other side of the field, feet firmly planted on the ground, the avian trainer waited. His pokeballs were still in his pouch, but he would choose his combatants once his opponent revealed hers.

Nathara watched as an older trainer entered the room. He was a little strange looking, but she pushed down her uneasiness. One shouldn't judge others by their looks. The man's silence didn't help his cause, though.
"Um...hello. My name's Nathara. Would you mind a two on two battle?"
She spoke a little quieter than usual, not sure what sort of reaction she would get from the silent trainer. She reached into her bag and pulled out two pokeballs. Enlarging them both, she released their inhabitants.
Vexant the nincada looked around quickly, startled by his sudden entrance. Anima gazed quietly at the strange trainer before her, trying in vain to enter his mind. Her powers weren't developed enough yet to read someone so shielded.
"Ready for a battle, you two?"
Anima nodded cheerfully, while the nincada didn't answer. Vexant was staring at the male with a mixture of anger and fear. Nathara sighed.
"These are my two. You can have the first move."

Soren looked at the two Pokémon that was released, glancing down at his pokedex for information. This wasn't going to be extremely hard, he figured. He would have type advantage, if he played his cards right. From his pouch, two pokeballs were taken out. "Soren," he said, after the attendant glared at him for a few seconds for completely ignoring the girl on the other side of the articifial field. He released Leeta and Nayj, both Pokémon never having really fought together. That would be something this battle was going to show Soren -- did the two Pokémon have chemistry? Would he be able to use them in contests together?
Well, it was time to see how he wanted to do this. Leeta did not know a lot of moves, and Nayj knew some really strong ones. Yet he did not want the bug Pokémon to get overshadowed by the swablu. "Symphony, on Nincada," he said, letting his Pokémon decipher his commands. He had gone through some of them with his pokemon, but never in actual battle yet.
Leeta understood first and started to let out a high-pitched sound, aiming it at the opposing bug Pokémon. Nayj soon followed, using a growl to mingle her sound with the Ledyba's. They had it going for a little bit before their trainer's second command was called. "Attack, overwhelm," he said simply, and both Pokémon flew over to the Nincada, Nayj's beak suddenly growing a bit while Leeta closed her eyes, readying herself for the impact. Both were teaming up against what seemed to be the less agile of the two, hoping to quickly eliminate one to then be able to gang up on the psychic Pokémon as well.

Vexant cowered under the combined sound of both pokemon's first moves. The Supersonic rang oddly, and the terrified bug soon forgot which direction was up and which was down. He barely felt the pain of the combined attacks through the wall of his own fear, but the damage was still done.
Anima frowned, and looked over at the small pokemon. It was only the first round, and already her partner was barely conscious. This wasn't at all like battling with Razel.
Nathara felt exasperation eating at her mind, but again she forced the feeling away. Vexant was low-leveled, so she couldn't blame him for not being able to take hits well. This round hadn't gone well, but at least she knew her opponent's name now.
"Vexant, use Harden and Scratch on the ledyba. Anima, Growl and Confusion, same target."
The nincada barely heard his trainer's command. All he did was tremble pitifully. Anima frowned again, but didn't hesitate for too long. She growled cutely, then directed one of her psychic waves at the ledyba. Her partner may not be willing to fight, but she was.

Soren watched carefully at the opposing pokemon's reactions. The nincada was not listening to its trainer, and Soren was definitely going to take advantage of its inexperience. "Leeta, counter! Nayj, finish," he commanded, deciding to now separate his attacks. Nayj was the stronger of the two and would not have trouble against the useless little green bug.
The ledyba's counter was a bit delayed as she had braced herself for the confusion attack, the ripple of psychic energy running through her body uncomfortably, painfully. Undeterred, she let out her own wave, using a supersonic attack. She quickly followed up by fluttering her wings as quickly as possible to fly toward the ralts, wanting to tackle the psychic Pokémon. She was not flying as fast as she could, though, as the cute growl made her second guess herself a little bit, not wanting to hurt the pokemon too much. In the meantime, Nayj was having it easy as she did circled her prey, almost like a vulture circling a nive juicy roadkill. She did not stall for long as the swablu then swooped down for another peck attack on the vulnerable nincada.

Anima tried to block out the unnerving sound of the Supersonic, but it was difficult to escape the noise. Fortunately, her mind wasn't scrambled by the move like Vexant's had. Recovering quickly, she took advantage of the ledyba's hesitation and ran out of the way of her opponent's second attack.
Vexant screeched as another strong attack landed. He was only conscious long enough to think about how unfair this was.
Nathara shook her head as the bug collapsed, feeling more pity than anger. It hadn't been wise to send Vexant out into a battle she knew he couldn't fare well in. All she could hope was that her pokemon would still be willing to fight once this battle was behind them. She called the nincada back into his pokeball, and placed it gently back into her bag.
"Anima, use Growl and Confusion again."
The ralts nodded, not feeling very confident about her chances. How was she suppose to win against two opponents? Not one to go against orders, however, she decided to continue as best as she could. Anima gave another light growl, which sounded remarkably like a purr. After the sound had died down, she concentrated her mind, and released more psychic energy in the ledyba's direction.

Soren watched as the nincada fell, falling on its back and tucking those legs in before the pokeball's light reached it to return it. That was one down, and another one to go. The trainer ordered a quick dodge as he thought about the attack possibilities and how he was going to proceed. Unfortunately, that caused him to be a bit distracted and Soren was almost surprised when Leeta fell at his feet. The poor ledyba had taken the confusion attack rather badly and was feeling pretty bad. She tried to get up to fly a bit, but seeing her wings flutter pitifully, Soren returned her to her pokeball, declaring her unfit for battle. He would have liked to double team the psychic pokemon, but Leeta would have been a liability.
Nayj was flying higher up, circling the battlefield while trying not to fly too close to the walls. Her wings fluttered a bit when she heard the command, "Shock," and geared herself for the attack. Dipping down, she dived toward the ralts and let out a horrifying screech in an attempt to scare the Pokémon before hitting it with an astonish.

Anima cheered silently as the opposing bug pokemon was returned to it's pokeball. Maybe she had a chance after all! It would be an even, one-on-one fight with this bird.
Her excitement turned to surprise as the circling pokemon suddenly whooshed down at her with a terrifying cry. What was this attack? Why did this bird scream at her so? Anima's shock and confusion stopped her from being able to dodge the ghost attack. Pain ran through her, and the young ralts trembled.
Nathara almost gasped herself as the swablu gave a frightening screech, before diving down onto her pokemon. Anima was quaking from the shock and pain of the unexpected attack.
"Anima, Growl and Confusion!"
The ralts tried to comply with Nathara's order, but her body shook and flinched with such force that she could barely stand, let alone move her arms or focus her mind enough to send the attacks. All she could do was stand helplessly and wait for this terrible experience to end.

Nayj felt accomplished that her attack was a success and took advantage of the situation. She was already readying herself to react to her trainer's next set of orders which were sure to come in soon. Indeed, Soren, noticing the Ralts had flinched, did not waste any time. Who knew when the ralts would use that damned confusion attack again? The trainer quickly weighed his option, and then went with what he knew best.
"Attack!" he said, and his pokemon did less than a second later, as she attuned to her trainer's thought patterns and read his actions before he even declared it. Her beak started to grow a bit, making it a much deadlier weapon, as she went in for a peck attack, aiming it on the more vulnerable underside of the tiny pokemon.

Anima felt relief wash over her as the muscles in her body finally started to stop shaking. Flinching had been such a terrible experience that she was hesitant to continue fighting. What if it happened again? The ralts realized what she was considering, and reprimanded herself. How could she possibly think about giving up? It went against the deep loyalty that the ralts evolution line had to their trainers. The very fact that she had considered quitting shocked her more than her opponent's attack had. She was too engrossed in this line of thought to see the Peck coming.
The sharp beak dug into her belly as the move landed, and the young psychic squeaked in agony. She stumbled a few steps back, but somehow remained on her feet. The wound that her underbelly now sported was sapping her strength, and it was all she could do to stay conscious.
Nathara cursed under her breath, something she had never done before. This battle wasn't going well at all. Poor Anima was struggling to stay in the fight, while Soren's swablu was completely healthy. It wasn't fair to her pokemon to give up now, though. There was still a small chance of success. It was a very small hope, but she clung to it.
"Anima, lets try this again. Growl and Confusion!"
Anima nodded weakly, and pushed a quiet growl through her throat. It was a pitiful attempt, but better than nothing. Next, she tried to focus her mind enough to send a psychic wave in the bird's direction. Sluggishly, it responded, and the ralts managed to control it long enough to send a feeble Confusion attack forward. The effort strained her battered body further, and darkness started to eat at the edges of her vision.

The Ralt's attack came in rather sluggish and Soren could tell that the pokemon was weakening. It was obvious to everyone. And with Nayj still at full health, the avian trainer knew that he was in a good position. Just a little bit more, he figured. "Lower and attack, fly through," he commanded after thinking about it for a bit. The confusion was surely going to hit no matter what, so he had to react fast and just ride the attack through. Well, Nayj did.
The swablu felt a little bad for the psychic pokemon when she heard the weak, pityful growl. Her flight pattern skipped a beat before she saw it concentrate on the next attack. At that moment, her trainer also gave out his own orders. Steeling herself to fly through the confusion, Nayj allowed her downy feathers to ruffle just a bit before flying over to Anima, going straight through the purple energy waves.
The flying pokemon let out a cute growl, but it was interrupted when her body was overwhelmed by the confusion attack rippling through her veins, turning the cute sound into something not as much. Nayj did not give up, though, and kept her trajectory steady, her beak enlarging, going in for another peck.

Anima watched blearily as the swablu flew towards her. It had been a good fight, but even she knew that she wasn't lasting this attack. The ralts prepared herself for the impact.
When the attack landed this time, she didn't cry out. The pain wasn't too bad compared to what was already searing in her stomach. The force knocked her to the ground, and Anima finally released her hold on consciousness.
Nathara gave a sad smile. This ralts was going to become a fine battler one day. Her determination and loyalty already showed that much. Deep in her mind, the trainer wondered if she was doing the right thing, making such an innocent pokemon fight. She was taking something fragile and beautiful, and exposing it needlessly to pain and difficulty. Anima seemed happy...
She shook her head, and pulled her mind back to the finished battle. Taking out the young psychic's pokeball, she called Anima back into it's dark safety, before turning to the other trainer.
"That was a good game, thank you."
The day was still young. Maybe she should heal her two fainted pokemon, and then wait for another opponent. She might not have Anima fight, but she could be out of her pokeball during the next battle, and they could talk. Nathara wanted to make sure that the ralts was happy fighting like this.

Soren watched his pokemon attack and got ready to command her to continue the attack, just in case he battle wasn't over yet. Anima got hit, and just crumbled, allowing Soren to relax. The battle was over, and he had come out the victor. The battle had not been the most fair, considering his opponent's nincada had not done anything and allowed him to swing forward in victory. At any case, it was a success. Both his pokemon became stronger as a result of the fight and Soren was feeling rather good about it. He extended an arm, allowing Nayj to rest upon it, fingers passing through her feathers gently before returning her to her pokeball.
That was a good game, thank you. At those words, Soren looked at the other trainer. He gave a nod, returning those words silently, out of politeness, out of custom. He then left the room, letting himself out to escape the white confines of the battlefield. Maybe he would heal his pokemon up and let them fly a bit in the open air.

Nathara watched as Soren silently exited the room. What a strange guy...he was even less-social than herself, but a good battler. Then again, it wasn't hard to be a better trainer than her. Now that she thought about it, she had never really won a battle against another person. The fight with the bug trainer didn't count, considering that his butterfree hadn't been defeated. She sighed, and left the room after her opponent.
Outside and to the right, she spotted a small station where trainers could heal their pokemon. Walking up to the device, she inserted the two pokeballs that housed Anima and Vexant. It glowed for a moment, then made a pleasant sound like a bell. Nathara didn't return them to her bag, however. She carried them in her hands back to the battle room they had previously fought in, then opened the capsules. Anima looked around curiously, just as fresh as she had been this morning. Vexant was searching the air fearfully.
"Hello you two. Don't worry, there isn't a battle. I...just wanted to talk."
Both pokemon turned their attention to her. Anima was the first to speak up in her telepathic voice.
<I'm sorry we didn't win the battle.>
The small voice was filled with so much apology that Nathara's heart clenched.
"No, no, you were wonderful. Actually, I wanted to say that I am sorry."
Vexant looked in confusion between the ralts and his trainer. He was only hearing half of the conversation.
<What's going on?>
Anima ignored the bug, instead staring intently at Nathara.
<Why are you sorry?>
"Well, I sent you both into a battle you weren't ready for."
Anger sparked for a second through the weak link between her mind and Anima's. It was gone as quickly as it appeared.
<Nathara, we were perfectly ready! Vexant got confused by that one move, so he couldn't attack. If we try again, I'm sure we'll both do better.>
<I'm still here, you know.>
Vexant was looking annoyed now, and he scratched sulkily at the ground. Again, the nincada was ignored. Both Anima and Nathara were too deep into the conversation to hear him.
"Are you sure? Do you like battling?"
<Of course! I enjoy fighting for you. Already, I'm stronger than I was as a wild pokemon.>
Nathara smiled, and an inexplicable lightness swelled through her chest. Anima enjoyed fighting for her! The ralts smiled as well, obviously feeling the effects of her trainer's happiness.
"Thank you."
Anima nodded.
<Could we battle again, Vexant and I? I want to show you that we can be strong competitors.>
"Alright, I'll let you have another go. I was going to let Comis have a shot, but that can wait a battle or two."
<Hello?>
Vexant's voice was much louder this time, and the two looked at him.
"What?"
The bug looked surprised at the sudden attention.
<What was that about?>
The trainer suddenly realized that Anima had been talking telepathically, and that poor Vexant had only heard one side of the conversation.
"I'm sorry, Vexant. Are you okay with another battle?"
The bug narrowed his eyes as much as a nincada could.
<Another battle? Wasn't one enough?>
"Vexant, don't you want to become stronger?"
<Um...>
They both waited patiently for his answer.
<Er, okay, but just one more.>
Nathara smiled again.
"Great! Looks like we have to wait some more for the next trainer."
The human started to gaze at the white walls, thinking about the conversation with Anima. The ralts twirled excitedly, and Vexant crouched where he was, still sulking.

Having just finished yet another unsuccessful trainer battle, Susumu looked at the healing machine in the corner restlessly. His Geodude had gotten beat up pretty bad by some punk's Lotad-- knocked out in one attack. How about that? It was only a one on one battle, so it ended up being super fast. His Geodude probably didn't even gain any experience from it, fainting too quickly for anything to count. Finally one of the machines was available and he slid his way through the crowd of trainers, all 'wanting to be the very best', no doubt. He sighed as he put his group of Pokeballs within the machine, watching with little interest as colorful lights danced over them. It was supposed to heal them somehow, with some strange new technology. Not that he cared about that techno-wiz stuff; just not the 17 year old's thing. Once it was finished working its magic, he took out the Pokeballs, examining them. Out beside him, nibbling on a sugar cookie Susumu gave him, was a small Sandshrew. The ground type hadn't battled at all, and was really out looking at the battles. Susumu's way of preparing him for the training lifestyle, he supposed. There was a cute Ralts over in the corner, and he couldn't help but dash right over to her, of course, under Susumu's watchful eye. Stopping before he slid into the wall, it was waxed pretty well, he grinned at the psychic type. How did he know that she was a psychic? He was pretty psychic himself! <Oh, hi. Are you fighters? Have you battled lots?> He asked, tail wiggling like a puppy. |Level 5| [/font]

After a few minutes of uneventful waiting, Anima began to grow bored. How long would this take? She didn't want to stand here for the rest of the day, staring idly at the wall. Vexant didn't have that problem, because he was too nervous to be bored.
The silence was broken by a cheerful sandshrew bursting into the room, and almost running into the wall with his excitement.
<Oh, hi. Are you fighters? Have you battled lots?>
Anima smiled at the slightly larder pokemon, glad to have someone to talk to now. She spoke telepathically, only to the ground type's mind.
<Hello! Yes, we're fighters. In fact, we're looking for a battle right now.>
Nathara looked down at the shrew curiously. Whose pokemon was this? It couldn't be a stray, a pokemon of this size wouldn't have been able to sneak in. Glancing out of the open doorway, she spotted a male trainer watching them.
It must be his.

<Mind talk, huh? Now that's cool.> The Sandshrew replied with bug eyes, showing his fascination at her abilities. In a way, he thought it was a little lazy and rude of her not to include her companion that looked like a nervous wreck, because he didn't seem to notice her talk at all. He scratched at the side of his arm, a bit of a bad habit, and grinned in a friendly manner. <Looking for a battle, then? My trainer is too. This works out for both of us then.> The Sandshrew replied cheerfully, sticking two fingers in his mouth and letting out a weak whistling sound. Then a spitting sound. Ok, so he needed to practice his whistling skills. Seeing that he caught Susumu's attention, he beckoned his trainer over, even though he seemed to want to shy away from the girl. "Hi. I guess you're looking for a battle?" He asked Nathara, making a habit of giving his Sandshrew a confused glance every now and then. He really didn't know what else the ground type would call him for, unless there was something else he could do. ::sandshrew:: |Level 5|

Anima hid a giggle at the sandshrew's commendable attempt at a whistle. It seemed to catch the trainer's attention, though, because soon a man walked into the battle room.
<Ooh, that's great! I can't wait to get started!>
Vexant gave the new trainer a suspicious look, before edging closer to Nathara. He didn't much like the girl, but at least he knew she was friendly. Nathara knelt down and stroked the bug's shell soothingly, contact that Vexant found highly uncomfortable, but at least he didn't shy away. After that, the human stood up again to face the man.
"Yes, I'm looking for a battle, if you'd like one. My name's Nathara, and these two are Vexant and Anima."

Susumu didn't really get to see much of Vexant's body language, not knowing much about bug types, and it was pretty low to the ground. He was more interested in arranging some kind of battle with the girl, which would have given Daichi a chance to become stronger. At least it would prove that he was being a fair trainer to all of his Pokemon. This Nathara girl couldn't be too much younger than he was, though when she stood up, he was clearly taller. Thank god, he hated being short. "I'm Susumu." He replied, but it really sounded like he said 'I'm Shamu'. Especially when it was a foreign name that you never heard of. "This kid is Daichi. I guess we can just go into a room or something." He scratched his head in thought, ignoring Daichi's annoyed pulls at his pant legs, not liking being called 'a kid'. "Double Battles are pretty popular in here. Would you mind if we had one?" He asked, starting to walk towards one of the training rooms. There appeared to be one available, and it didn't really matter if they signed in properly for it or not. If they were there first, they were there first. ::sandshrew:: |Level 5|
