The levels of arrogance that Helix was now experiencing were now dangerously high. He seemed to saunter in the air as the Wingull reeled backwards from his hit, bobbing in the air tauntingly. "Dodge it!" Quinn said sharply, watching as the first drops of water were shot out of the Wingull's beak; however, Helix was way too cocky, not noticing the onslaught; the Water Gun hit him square in the chest, causing his to career back, almost knocking into his trainer. Quinn whirled the egg away from harm, turning it away from the direction Helix was coming from. The Shuppet almost landed on the ground, sopping wet; instead, at the last moment, he pushed himself upwards, spinning in a vertical line up towards the clouds, shaking off the water as he went; drops spattered back down onto Quinn, who was tapping her foot on the ground in concentration. The blonde tossed her hair aside, uncomfortable from the slight dampness, shouting upwards so her Starter could hear her; "HELIX! SCREECH THAT THING AND SHADOW SNEAK AGAIN!" She mentally cursed whoever it was who only gave the Shuppet one offensive move, but he followed orders. From way up in the air, a mere blob above her, the Shuppet let out another piercing cry, beginning to fly towards the Wingull, the shriek getting louder with every metre. Quinn once again, dug her shoulders into her ears to avoid any pain, before watching as the Shuppet once again, performed the Shadow Sneak.

Oh, the poor Wingull's ears. The screech was awful, then, being hit by the Shadow Sneak was nothing better either. He was sent backwards. Staying there for a second, resting his little body, got up again, sending a sharp Growl at the ghost. Then shooting a Water Gun at the ghost.
He wasn't going to let himself get beaten by a ghost! He had too much pride and a reputation to uphold!

Quinn was proud of her little Shuppet as he hit be Wingull once again. He looked proud too, revolving rapidly in excitement, spinning away from his opponent to put some distance between them. After he awful experience with the Sentrent, Helix felt he had a duty to make it up to his trainer in the best way he could. The Wingull used Growl again - it affected Helix once more, making him shudder as his defence was lowered. As he shook, the Wingull shot a jet of water towards him; Quinn watched the water escape the Wingull's beak, her arms tightening around her precious Pokémon Egg with tension. "Dodge the Water Gun, Helix!" The Shuppet only regained himself at the last moment; when the water was a mere few metres away, he spun himself frantically into a random direction, whirling around in a frenzy to avoid the attack. Not the traditional way of dodging - but it ensured that the Water Gun shot past him, barely centimetres away from his misty body. "Good! Now get in there with a full blown Shadow Sneak!" Quinn said with gritted teeth, hoping the Wingull was still immersed in the aftermath of attacking her Shuppet. Helix darted forwards towards the bird, extending his shadow before darting off behind the Wingull again.

☼ Hit by Shadow Sneak (Defense -4) ☼ Wingull has fainted. Shuppet gains a level.
- The Wingull cawed in amazement when her Water Gun was dodged in such a spectacular manner. Seeing the Shuppet get all twirled about from that dodge, her eyes tracked its every movement, even feeling a bit dizzy herself as she imagined preforming that kind of dodge. Ugh, the thought gave her motion sickness.
- <You're sneaky.> She commented, possibly the most 'un-food' related thing she said thus far. The Shadow Sneak continued to be fast and unpredictable, sneaking at her from above where the Shuppet made it's strike. With an incredibly low defense, the ghost type move was more than enough to knock her right to the ground.
- <Oof!> She exclaimed, eyes wincing in pain as her feathers became ruffled from the mix of mud and dead leaves. Her head stretched itself to get a good look up at the ghost, before finally letting her head down in defeat.

The last strike was enough; a blow from above knocked the Wingull into the ground, and the Shuppet floated away from the bird in a relaxed manner, a vibe of happiness emanating from him as the Wingull failed to get up. A tiny spark of joy ignited deep within Helix's trainer, spreading like ripples in a pond until it coursed through every nerve in Quinn's body. This was their first win - and she knew she wouldn't forget it for the rest of her life. Staring at the fluffy lump that was the Wingull, she almost almost almost threw the Pokemon Egg high above her her; her limbs regained rationality at the last moment, tightening her arm muscles so the warm Egg was kept in her grip and not flung upwards. Helix wasn't that advanced that he could save the Egg... it she dropped it, it would splatter all over the ground in two seconds. Rewarding Helix with one of her raspberry bars (which were decreasing rapidly), she sat cross-legged on the ground, relaxing all her muscles and plonking the Egg down into her lap, where it was secure. Helix hovered slightly above from the ground, regaining his energy from the fight. "I'm gonna make a holder for this Egg." Quinn explained, as she opened her bag. "Now, what do I have to work with?" She'd never expected to be the mother of an Egg, and so never prepared accordingly with the tiny space she had in the rucksack. "You rest here, love. Protect the Egg." She mumbled to her Shuppet as she pulled out some emergency tracksuit bottoms. They were for emergencies... who'd wear that willingly? Not her. And this was an emergency... sort of... She set the Egg in front of her Shuppet, before walking off the path into the trees, looking for some sort of material she could use to tie around herself - maybe a supple branch she could tear down into a strip, or a few vines, maybe? Ah! No supple branches, unfortunately, but a couple of thick, tough-looking vines dangled from a tree nearby. Wading through vegetation, brushing her bare legs against different varieties of plants; some could be stinging nettles, for all she knew. Grabbing the vine she had set her sights on, she grabbed it and tugged; it wouldn't budge. More tugging.... using all her strength, the blonde leaned back, digging her heels into the moist earth and pulling with all her might. Still, no success! She couldn't call for Helix... he was protecting her Egg, along with her other possessions. And she needed to get this vine, otherwise she'd have to resort to ripping up her emergency clothes, which probably wouldn't work as well anyway. Why was this vine so damn tough?! It just refused to get ripped away from the tree...!

"What are you doing?" A curious seedling poked her head out of a hole in a hollow tree where she had made a makeshift den. Nobody could say Sunkerns weren't malleable.Agog at the Trainer's odd behavior, she had emerged from hernest despite the rapidly cooling weather. These were the months when the Grass types did as little as possible to survive, but minding her own business had never been this Sunkern's strong point, and so here she was, balanced adorably on a tree branch with her big black eyes wide and curious. ::sunkern::

Quinn had almost definitely brushed against some stinging nettles a few minutes ago - dammit! Angry red splotches with tiny, itchy bumps were now appearing in jagged stripes around her knees - resisting the crazy urge to scratch them, Quinn satisfied herself with the thought of cooling cream in her first-aid kit. The teen spotted a splodge of yellow amongst the green foliage that surrounded her, lingering on the boundaries of her eyesight; stopping her efforts and quickly wiping the thin layer of sweat on her forehead, she gazed upwards to see what it was. A little seed-like Pokemon; an adorable little thing, balancing on a branch, stripy with cute little leaves sticking out of it's head. It made Quinn's heart melt slightly; it was so cute! Then the motherly instinct cut through - would this thing be a threat to her Egg? She sized them up in her mind; Helix, the fresh-from-the-battle Shuppet, standing by her cute little speckled egg that she fawned over so much, against this tiny thing. Easy; Helix would win. Her muscles relaxed, her shoulders lowered, the body shifted into a relaxed standing position. "Oh hey there, little guy." She said sweetly, flashing a smile towards it. "I'm trying to get this vine off the tree. I sort of need it, I need to make some sort of pouch thing to carry my Egg around so I don't harm it. Do you think you could help me?"

Sunkern tilted her head to one side. "I could... try to headbutt it?" she suggested uncertainly, and hopped down from the branch onto the leafy ground, which cushioned her fall somewhat. Looking at the tree, she seemed to scrutinize its size and shape with one eye closed so that the other would see better, making the streak of brown running down her body seem uninterrupted. Then she reached her inevitable conclusion. With a high pitched, yet unnecessary battle cry, she charged at the tree, banged the top of her head on the hard trunk, fell back, and promptly fell into a state of unconsciousness. ::sunkern:: Sunkern has fainted.Tree gains a level.

{{ooc. Before I continue; you have just served me IMMENSE lols.}}
Quinn watched in a slightly stunned state as the Sunkern proceeded to let out a useless and high-pitched battle cry, before knocking straight into the trunk of the tree. Examining the spot where the seed-like Pokémon had struck, Quinn noticed no sign of any damage, not even a dent among the ridged bark. Sighing, she looked down at the tiny, fainted Pokémon. Well, she couldn't just leave it there... granted, it wasn't a Pokémon she'd normally go for, but... it was just lying there... and it had tried to help... Quinn knew she'd kick herself later for this, but right now, her emotions got the better of her. Unclipping a Pokeball from her belt, she enlarged it - "OW!" Quinn let out a surprise squeal of pain and shock as the Pokeball crackled fiercely in her hand, letting out thin fingers of electricity that sparked with intensity. What the hell was wrong with it? Was it a defective Pokeball? Picking it up, the blonde examined it tentatively; it sparked again, but because she was prepared for it, she absorbed the slight electric shock and stared at it. Hmm... defective. Dropping it to the forest floor, she unclipped another one, enlarged it - a primitive hiss escaped her mouth as the same thing happened. What the hell? Was this connected to her Pokedex's blank, dark screen? She slipped it out of her pocket, flipping it open; still blank. She pressed the buttons vigorously, shook it; nothing. It wouldn't even turn on - she couldn't see anything. Incredibly confused, Quinn pushed the Pokedex back into the pocket of her canvas shorts and picked up her two discarded Pokeballs, minimising one and throwing the other as if it were a hot potato, so it wouldn't spark all over her hand again. The throw went into the direction of the Sunkern, revolving in an arc towards the tiny, striped Pokémon.

Clearly, the bark of the tree had not been a malleable substance in the least - or maybe it was just because the little kernel was so weak. But while she wasn't very strong, she certainly hadn't been weakened by battle before the Pokeball was thrown, and so she was thrown immediately into consciousness when the sparking thing enveloped her.
<It's trying to eat me! The freaking tree is trying to eat me!> Not having remembered fainting, she was certain that the tree had swallowed her, and she could now feel painful sparks flashing through her system. Oh, dear goodness, this tree was mean! She'd never met a tree as cold and cruel as this one! Of course, she'd never before met a tree (unless that polite little Bonsly had counted?) but even still!
The Pokeball rocked heavily for a moment before breaking apart, expelling her in a bright, shocking flash. She landed with a small 'oof!' obviously dazed and confused.

Quinn raised an eyebrow as the Pokeball swallowed up the Sunkern, before cracking open again, releasing the Pokemon in a flash of red light and sparks. Had the Sunkern fought to get out, or was this the result of the Pokeball being defective? She glanced down at her belt; she hadn't noticed the tiny little sparks before, but they were happening quite often. Then she stepped towards the Sunkern, which was lying on the floor, looking quite pitiful. The blonde pushed her hair away from her shoulders to cascade down her back, towering over the little striped Pokemon, looking slightly amused, concerned and weirded out. "So... umm... you wanna tag along with me, or what? I have raspberry bars." She quizzed, her blue eyes boring into the Pokemon mercilessly, inspecting every inch of it. She didn't particularly have an interest in it, but it was cute, and it would be a chirpy little tagalong. Helix could use a friend, anyways; they only had each other right now, and although it was lovely, she felt Helix needed another outlet into which he could pour his energy.

The Sunkern hadn't really been expecting the tree to spit her out, but she was relieved when it did. Panting from the weight of her fear, she nodded vigorously at the trainer's question. <Oh, yes, please,> she begged. <You see, that tree just tried to eat me, and then it shocked me, and... and...> She shook her head, obviously too horrified by the monster tree to be of much use explaining. But yes, she'd love to accompany the trainer. She wanted a friend.

Quinn was torn between laughing at the pitiful Sunkern and dropping a sarcastic comment towards it. In the end, she settled for a small chuckle, jerking her head to push her massive fringe away from her azure eyes. "Righty ho. Well, looks like we're gonna have to ditch that vine." She shot the hated vine a last, lingering look; she'd have to settle with ripping apart her trackies instead. "Let's go back to the trail, you can meet Helix, I'm sure you'll get along great... and I suppose we can try the Pokeball again when we get there." With an authoritative nod of the head, the feisty blonde beckoned for the Sunkern to follow her as she violently made her way through the brush back to the battered trail where she left Helix with the Egg.

Again?
What'd she mean, try the Pokeball again? If the Sunkern was only a little more suspicious and bright, she might have realized that it had not been a tree trying to eat her at all, but a Pokeball trying to capture her. But she'd never been credited for being very intelligent, and so she simply nodded in contentment and hopped after the trainer, little kernel humming in excitement at the prospect of meeting a new friend. Helix, and what an interesting name that was! Even more pumped now, she increased her pace until she was matching with the trainer.
Not liking it to stay too silent for long, the kernel queried, <So what sort of Pokemon is Helix?> Sometimes, she saw trainers that had started their journey in this very route, and thus their Pokemon reflected only those seen here. But sometimes they had rare Pokemon she'd never seen before, and she normally shied out of their way. Some of them were quiet scary. But the trainer had told her she'd likely get along great with Helix, and so she wasn't scared in the least. Oh, naivety.

Quinn smiled to herself as the Sunkern chattered away, snapping little wisps of branches and pushing foliage out of her way as she continued to battle her way through; she stopped when the little seed Pokemon posed her question. "He's a Shuppet." She explained tentatively. "But I have to warn you - I'm sure he'll like you, but he's a bit... mischievous. He likes pranks and that sort, he takes advantage of the fact that he can fly, he's a ghost and he can wail. Don't let him freak you out, he doesn't mean any of it." This came out messily; Quinn couldn't quite prepare the Sunkern for her naughty little Starter. Well, it would definitely learn from a face-to-face experience, anyway. She hoped it wouldn't faint or anything; it seemed like a frail little thing. She commenced pushing her way, slightly more violently, through the overgrown forest; and finally, escape! The breeze of wind that greeted her as she returned to the beaten track was refreshing, blowing away a few leaves that had stuck into her hair. The Egg was sitting happily on the ground, with Helix revolving around it like a planet orbits the Sun, looking quite content. "Helix! I have a friend for you! But be good. Don't you dare scare it!" Quinn warned, shooting Helix a warning look. The Shuppet grinned and floated towards the Sunkern; Quinn moved her attention to the Egg, walking over and picking it up; it felt warmer than ever before, actually. She rested a hand against the top of the shell, testing the temperature; what was happening to it? <BOO.> Quinn whirled around, shooting her Shuppet a look of contempt. He'd obviously just crept behind the Sunkern and shouted "boo" into it's ear. "Helix! What did I just tell you -" Quinn began in an exasperated fashion, before a loud crack interrupted her sentence. Startled, Quinn snapped her head back and forth in search of the noise, before realising it had come from her own arms - looking down in shock and surprise, she saw that the top of the shell had a massive crack running through it. More cracks followed; pieces of the speckled egg fell to the floor, and the top half of it was slowly destroyed by the Pokemon within. Shaking with excitement, Quinn watched as the last piece of the top half were broken, and out came a -

The Sunkern paused, eyes going wide as she heard a certain G-word that startled her quite a bit. <G-G-Ghost?> she echoed, bounding after the trainer again to make up for the distance she'd lost when she'd paused in her shock. <He won't try to h-haunt me or anything... w-will he?> She was afraid of ghosts because of the stories her mother'd told her when she was little, to keep her from wandering too far in the dark. Ghosts were evil and scary and they ate little sunkerns for breakfast! She didn't want to be eaten for breakfast... or for lunch... or any other meal for that matter!
But then again, the trainer had complete faith in her Pokemon. A little prank once and a while couldn't be too bad, right? Her brother - before he'd been eaten by a Pidgey - had played little harmless tricks on her all the time. But would a ghosts tricks be worse? So many questions, so little answers! The little kernel's head was filled with worry by the time they broke through the forest and into the safety of the path, and then-
<AIEEEEE!>
Right, so she'd been expecting it, technically. But when the Shuppet actually came toward her and tried to scare her, it worked. Perhaps a little too well. The kernel was unable to stand the level of fright she'd just recieved, and she'd fainted. Just like that. Boom, out cold. Well... at least she'd be easier to catch, now?

{{ooc. I'm gonna pretend the egg hatching didn't happen, and then when an admin PMs me back with the Pokemon I'll work it back in. :3 }}
Quinn sighed, glaring at Helix with a mixture of defeat and anger. "I just told you not to scare her!" Quinn scolded; Helix let the telling-off wash right over him, spinning just out of reach of his trainer, acting just like a naughty child. "Well then. I'll just ignore you until you say sorry! We'll see how you like that." The blonde mumbled angrily to herself; Helix always hated the silent treatment, and that was what she would give him. She whirled around, hair flying, to look at the tiny Sunkern, fainted on the floor. Dammit, Helix. Oh well, might as well try to capture her now. The Pokeball crackled and sparked as she enlarged it - turning her anger on it, she threw it in a disgusted manner at the Sunkern - what was wrong with all her electronic stuff?!

When the Pokeball hit her, Sunkern was immediately pulled back into awareness. For a moment, she thought it was the damn cannibalistic tree again, trying to gobble her up. But after a moment, she calmed down enough to realize that it was probably just the trainer trying to capture her. Oh, well that was alright then! That was exciting, even. Provided the Shuppet didn't try to scare her half to death again.
The shocks were painful, but she tried to ignore them, hoping that the trainer would let her back out of the ball afterward so that the pain would stop. She really didn't like it, it was quite uncomfortable. However, thanks to her cooperation, the capture did not take very long, and the ball soon emitted a quiet noise of success.

Quinn smiled as the Pokeball swallowed up the Sunkern; a moment passed. Two moments. The little seed hadn't been spat out; the Pokeball made a dim noise to show that it had successfully captured the Pokemon. The blonde bent down and picked up the vessel; it was crackling furiously like never before. It looked quite painful, actually; pressing the center button quickly so she wouldn't catch any sparks on her fingers, Quinn released the newly-captured Sunkern into the air, where it hovered beside her head. "Sorry about Helix. You'll get used to him in time, and hopefully, now that I've told him off, he'll stop... well, maybe not." Changing tack, Quinn picked up her newly hatched Pokemon - the Smoochum, Birthday. She had been sitting in a pink lump on the floor, playing with a stone; the sudden feeling of being lifted into the air caused her to gasp, but when she realised it was her "Mummy", she snuggled into the teen's warm arms. "This is Birthday. She's new too, so you can be friends." The Pokemon seemed to like each other; Birthday, who was a bit of a snob, managed to approve of the newly-named Shro, and they chitter chattered excitedly between each other. Now not needing an Egg-carrier anymore, Quinn abandoned her task, shoving the tracksuit bottoms back into the recesses of her bag; Birthday jumped in at the last minute. She liked being carried on Quinn's back like that, with only the upper half of her body visible. Quinn slung the backpack onto her shoulders, alerted Helix that they were going back on the move, and started to walk. "I won't put you back in your Pokeball until they get fixed." She informed the Sunkern. "It'd be unfair on you." Shro was content with that; she followed Helix around like a lost sheep as they trekked down the trail.

Starly had caught sigt of the Sunkern and had intended to eat it, but a Trainer had captured it first. How irritating. And who would want such a weak little creature when they could have him? A magnificent Starly with ebautiful plumage. Like white and black marble that could be seen in the homes of the rich. Nestling on a ow hanging branch of a nearby tree, Starly flapped his wings loud and wide to draw attention to his beautiful plumage before folding his wings back into his feathery body. "Hey, you! You took my meal." Starly glared at the Trainer to display his displeasure to her. ::starly:: Mood: Annoyed.
