Age: 18 July 17th, 1992
Appearance: James is slightly below average height at five feet, five inches. He makes up for his lack of height in the size of his smile. Often found grinning, even in the oddest and most inappropriate of times, James’ smile is bright and welcoming. Dark brown hair falls over his eyes, but is kept shaggy enough to allow James to see. James’ glasses are thin, rectangular and stylish, with a white filigree on the frames. Behind the lenses are bright crystal blue eyes that seems to burn with a passion for learning and meeting new people. The black undershirt he wears has the silver logo of one of his favorite bands. The versatile black and grey flannel button up shirt he wears offers protection from the wind and rain. The well worn pair black jeans that James wears have been repaired and hemmed and lengthened many times to fit his growing body. His shoes a simple pair of comfortable black tennis shoes.
Background: When James was born, he was surrounded by a loving family. Not only his mother, father, and two older sisters, but all their pokemon as well. From his mother’s warm hearted fire pokemon, to his father’s graceful water pokemon. Even his siters’ protective fighting types and empathetic psychic types, James was literally surrounded by pokemon. His favorite however was his oldest sister’s Ralts. James and Ralts were born on the same day ten years apart. On his 10th birthday, ralts hatched from it’s egg. Like brothers, the two bonded instantly. From that point on, James’ sister was often bothered to release ralts from his pokeball so often, that she finally stopped recalling him.
As the years went on, James’s family began to experience some difficulties. His father had lost his job and his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Needless to say, his sisters were often gone from the house battling in order to help keep a flow of money in the house. His father traveled to a distant city for a new job and his mother was sent to a live-in hospital. James was nearly on his own, save for his pal ralts, which he nicknamed Ize, with his sister’s permission of course. During his time alone at home, Ize and James grew ever closer.
As the years passed and his mother’s condition seemed to fluctuate as much as a slack flag in the wind and his father worked away from home, James sometimes felt completely alone. Ize was his only friend at times. During storms when his family was away trying to fight to survive and help their matriarch, James would cling to Ize in a hope that all would be well again.
More years passed and still his mother’s cancer seemed to both grow and shrink with a mind of it’s own. The doctors were unable to decide whether or not to operate because of complicated circumstances. James, now 18, had decided that it was well beyond time to begin his own pilgrimage to the gyms of foreign cities. His oldest sister, home from her latest outing heard of this and thought of no other gift but to allow Ize to accompany James on the road. After all, the two had been closer than blood ever since Ize was hatched.
So with his best friend riding on his shoulder, and a fiery determination, James set out on his own.
Personality: James is determined and wise to say the least. He has been through much in his short life and knows how to deal with situations in which most people would crack. His mother’s illness has given him the ferocious tenacity to never give up despite the cost. His father’s dedication to his family has taught him to always strive for what is best for those closest to him. With the strength of his sisters to live up too, James has a goal in which he plans on beating. He is caring and compassionate, but also somewhat mysterious. His mouth almost never seems to stop talking, but a lot of it is a distraction from the silence. His dislike of awkward pauses causes him to constantly fill the space with his own words.
