(OOC: Anyone can respond, it doesn't have to be massive like this either. Eri is passing through, on her way to the Ranger Station - I just wanted her to react to this whole plot thing!)
[/i] There was a knock at the door, and Eri instantly tensed. Her decorated wrist lifted and she found herself shutting off the television - spooked by the sudden appearance of a person at her door. "Eri, are you studying? Eri, what are you doing in there - I heard voices." The stern voice of her father emanated through the solid oak of the door, as she brushed off her skirt and got to her feet. Idly, she began to play with her locket again. "Just a minute!" She called, her own voice bright, if a bit quiet. As she approached the door, her father continued his chiding; "What do you do up here all day, watch tv? I knew I shouldn't have gotten one for you. Rot your brain, that's what it'll do-"
She opened the door and found her father, Shou, leaning against the bannister. Eri's room was on the second floor, and was dangerously close to the staircase itself. He didn't seem to notice her, so she approached and placed her arms around the limb he happened to be leaning on - which in turn, spooked him. "Oh! There you are." The man canted his head to one side, and strained his neck, while trying to look in to her room. Without the flickering light of the television screen, it was too dark and dreary to see anything. "Eh? Sitting in the dark?" Shou commented, with a quirk of one bushy eyebrow. Eri just shrugged back, finding no reason to make a response.
"Well, you need to get outside more. Your mother needs some things from the store, so-"
"Can I go?" Eri all but shouted, her voice squeaking out of her with far more fervor than either person was accustomed to. With a sheepish look upon her face, she motioned as if to cover her mouth - and looked away. However, the jolt of sound seemed to rouse Shou. "Yes, well, that was the point. I need to pick up some groceries," he said it as if the act of shopping was truly beneath him, and Eri let it slide. She couldn't control her father's old-fashioned mindset, and didn't bother trying. "-and while your mother prepares dinner, you ah. You need to pick up.. Well." Oddly enough, the serious-faced Shou had begun turning pink. His cheeks swelled with color, and the young woman thought perhaps, that her father had been drinking. It was then that she noticed something in Shou's hand - a letter? A note? Oh, a list.
While her father struggled with speech, Eri became animated. She turned around and ducked her head in to her room, reaching with one arm at the light switch - filling the black hole with a sudden wave of florescence - and then she flicked it off and turned around again. "It's the end of the month." She monotonously stated, and her father once again quirked his brow at her. "It's the end of the month and mother is out of tampons. I'll fetch them for her, of course. If she's already out then that must mean she's got a heavy flow this time, and we'll need the ultra-maximum thick brand-"
"Yes, yes, alright! Okay!" The man began to flail, turning a deep purple shade - like a beet. He ushered Eri towards the stairs, and then followed after her as she began to descend. "You deal with that and I'll deal with the groceries and," while speaking he shoved the list towards her, and then began to straighten his tie; he had to look respectable after all, he was the son of The Great Izanagi! While the two of them fled the house, Eri felt a tiny smile tug at the corners of her mouth - and then they were off, towards the retail core of the city.
While driving, there was an odd lack of pedestrians upon the streets. The vehicles were limited as well, which was odd. But the girl wasn't accustomed to being outside very often, so she thought, perhaps, that it was normal. When the car finally turned and was faced with a crowded area, Eri was surprised. She instinctively grabbed on to the door lock and pushed it down with her fingers, hearing a satisfying thunk that told her, they were locked in together. Cars were lined up before them, congesting the road, while various people were shouting things over one another - something about saving Pokemon from humans, and then something else about equality or something. Eri wanted to roll down her window, but a sudden wave of anxiety prevented her from moving. She could see a man with a giant camera on his shoulder - and the woman in front of him, she was layered in vibrant pink. Even with the growing crowd, she could pick out the reporter.
"Dad." She all but whispered, while her eyes were trained upon the woman; she was beaming a great big fake smile at the camera man, while around them, Pokemon began to sprout from beams of light and begin assaulting one another. "Dad! I have to go!" And with that, Eri tried to open her door. Shou was surprised by her sudden outburst, and turned to glare daggers at her. "What are you doing, Eri Izanagi. Can you not see that there is a riot going on?" It felt good to point out something that his daughter had obviously missed - it rarely happened. Eri could hear a layer of smug satisfaction underneath the stern warning in his voice. After that, the girl seemed to pause. She took one look at the glow within his dark eyes, flicked the locking mechanism above the door, and slid out.
"Wait-" Shou spoke, losing all of the luster in his voice; Eri was disobeying him? That.. That never happened. What was he supposed to do? "Wait, Eri!" He shouted, but it was too late - the girl had slipped in to the crowd and faded away. The older man let out a sigh and slumped in his seat, spotting the list in the corner of his eye.
Tampons.
"Aw, crap."

Silhouetted, the girl's head cast a fuzzy shadow across the ceiling. The curtains were drawn across the spherical window at the far end of the room, trying to contain the dark - and resist the sunlight of the afternoon - so that she could at least watch the news without any painful glare. Eri's amber eyes were like tiny televisions themselves; glowing with the occasional green, sparking with borrowed images that left her wide-eyed and wondering. Something important was happening today, and the woman on the news kept flitting - from person to person - asking questions, short, quick, and filled with an indecent amount of false enthusiasm. It had all started so calmly, or so she suspected - and then as soon as things got ugly (re: interesting), the news crew rolled out and set up their equipment. Eri had been studying alongside her radio at the time, but as soon as she heard the choppy script that the reporter was using, she felt compelled to pause her studying. Eri had turned on the television just as the woman - swathed in an outrageous outfit that made her initially think of A Study in Pink - began to read off the names of the various Pokemon that the laboratory owner had in his posession. Eri was impatient; she watched the garishly dressed woman while her nimble little fingers grasped at her own wrist - at the locket she wore there, pressing against it's soothing metal clasp with her fingertips. The Pokemon did not interest her at all. Not at first, anyways. One foot began to tap against the ground, concocting a dull beat that was answered moments later by a voice; "Eri! Stop that banging! What are you doing up there?!" She stopped thusly, falling forwards from her seated position in order to sit upon her knees before the screen. The camera passed over a pair of ordinary looking boys (one with obscenely long hair which she found fascinating), who began to bellow like a pair of irritated Kangaskhan. "We are protecting the pokemon's interests. Pokémon should not be handed out to children who do not know how to even hold a pokeball, but Professor Winters does not understand-" |
