Erin walked down the path, her tail curled up under her coat. If what I've heard about this place is true...bah, I'd rather get an annoying little Zubat than step foot in a lab... she thought to herself, grimacing slightly. She didn't really pay attention to what was in front of her as she walked, kicking a small rock along the path. It wasn't until she heard the loud roar of something that seemed to be right on top of her that she looked up. Her hair bristled up slightly, but then she calmed down as she saw what it was. On a plateau not too far away was a herd of Tauros and two bulls facing each other and preparing to charge. Intriguing...wait, I didn't make a wrong turn somewhere, did I? She thought for a split second that it could be some kind of safari zone--she'd heard of those kind of places. She glanced around, then sighed with relief when she saw the words "Ranger Station Cheyenne" printed on a sign, a tiny walk way, then a larger path for trucks and off road vehicles.
She shook her hair, smoothing it down slightly, before taking the skinnier path. On her way to the door she took off her large jacket; she had gotten quite hot, and the temperature was only rising. She folded it over her arms, her tail straight down. She was always nervous when meeting new people, now was no different.

Rangers were hustling and bustling around the open tent, getting their work done. Some of them hardly bothered to look up to check if anyone was visiting. One woman managed to see the girl standing there - but not only that. She noticed Erin's.. fuzzy appendage. Was that really her tail trailing behind her? The rookie ranger hadn't seen such phenomena before in her short career.
Standing, she walked briskly over to the pokemorph, smiling politely. "Hi! Are you here for a pokemon?" She questioned, watching the girl carefully. Surprise flickered for a second over her face when she realized that Erin bore odd markings and a grey skintone as well, but she stifled her curiosity. It was rude to question the appearances of guests.

Erin just saw the other woman a second or two before she greeted her and asked her if she was here about pokemon. Her tail shot up in greeting; she couldn't help it sometimes. "Hello.." She smiled, blushing a little bit. The tip of her black tail twitched out of nervousness, but she tried to pay it no mind. "If it isn't too much of a hassle. Everyone seems awfully busy." She laughed a little nervously, then cleared her throat and met the girl's gaze evenly.
Sadly, she couldn't hold it for long. Her eyes shot away shyly; she could tell that this stranger woman was looking at her tail and her markings and...well...her. Her small blush grew, only slightly, and her tail went back down to being almost between her legs. "U-um..." She said shakily, forcing herself to look back at the ranger.

The Ranger's mouth immediately opened in a gasp as she realized that she was making her guest nervous. "O-oh, I'm sorry." She said, looking to the side before looking back at Erin and smiling. "Pay it no mind. We're always this busy, and guiding new trainers to their pokemon is one of our duties." She explained dutifully.
"Well then, my name is Tessa and I'll be your guide today." Said Tessa, her short hair bobbing as she tilted her head to the side in a friendly way. Then, grabbing the single pokeball on her belt, she inflated it and allowed her trusted partner pokemon to step out into the daylight. It was a tall Noctowl that looked sleepy from being woken from his slumber. He yawned, which sounded like a hoot, and surveyed the girl who was to be their guest.
"Ah! How silly of me." Tessa blurted out, realizing that her eyes had been fixed on her Noctowl as soon as the magnificent bird appeared. She quickly turned and began walking toward the gate with a quick step, gesturing back at the girl to follow her. "I'll lead you to the enclosure. When we get there I'll explain how it works." She said. Her owl dutifully followed next to her.

Erin waved her off, and remained taciturn for the next few minutes. She smiled and nodded her head courtly, watching with patient eyes as Tessa called forth her Noctowl. Her eyes grew wide with intrigue and she stepped a little closer to look at the magnificent Pokémon. Her tail wagged slowly, and she smiled at the Pokémon as he looked her over. Her head shot up from gazing at the Noctowl to Tessa as she started to speak. She grinned at her when she said how silly she had been being, and subtly shook her head and stood at her normal height.
She hesitantly followed after her, until she beckoned her to follow. She nodded, "Okay.." and caught up with the ranger and her pokemon, tail wagging slowly in a casual manner. The enclosure...I wonder what sort of Pokémon I'm going to end up getting... she thought passively, following close behind the two.

Tessa finally arrived at the entrance into the enclosure and retrieved the keys from her belt, shoving the metallic item into the socket of the gate. Once opened, the ranger continued inside, looking back once to see if Erin was still following behind her. Noctowl trudged along much like a penguin, following next to his trainer with a serious expression.
They arrived in what seemed like nowhere, where Tessa finally stopped and looked around. She recognized that there were possibly pokemon nearby; in ranger school she'd been taught to know the signs. Turning to her trusted partner, she sent him off. "Do your thing!" She commanded. Nodding, the Noctowl flapped off deeper to find a pokemon to bring back. Tessa stood, crossing her arms and fidgeting as they waited for Noctowl to come back.
Finally he did - dragging a strange specimen with him. It was a Jynx, chattering in an angry tone as she was tugged along. Finally the injured pokemon was shoved in front of Tessa and Erin, held down by the superior Noctowl's beak. Tessa looked down at the subdued pokemon with an odd expression, then turned and tossed Erin a pokeball. "Well, this one's yours to catch." She said.

Erin followed diligently, looking around at the enclosure. She stopped beside Tessa, and turned her head to look at her. She followed her gaze down to the Noctowl, and watched him fly away to find a Pokémon. Oh...I thought it would be different.. she thought, she had imagined herself walking around with a guide such as Tessa and encountering a Pokémon on her own. Oh well, we'll just have to see what Noctowl brings back... She closed her eyes and listened around, occasionally hearing a Pokémon cry out, though for whatever reason she couldn't place.
After a little bit she sat down on the ground and crossed her legs Indian style, her eyes still closed in a form of meditation. Her hair stood up slightly in alarm, and she opened her red eyes, looking around. She also stood, her arms at her sides. At first it looked like the Owl Pokémon was dragging along a short, stout blond woman, which seriously confused the girl. She tilted her head to the side, blinking. "What...is that? I think I might look more like a Pokémon than that does..." Her tail had fluffed up as well as her hair, though her hair wasn't as obvious.
She caught the pokeball, and looked at the beat up blond Pokémon in front of her, tilting her head again. What a strange 'mon.. She thought, then knelt down and tapped the Jynx on the crown of her head, standing up and loosely holding the wiggling pokeball.

Tessa stared silently at the Jynx for a little while longer before responding to Erin's question. "... I guess you'll see later." She said, shuddering. The rookie had never seen a pokemon like that herself, either.
The Jynx allowed the pokeball to tap her head, being swallowed into the red and white sphere without resistance. The ball quivered a little, before allowing the pokeball to contain it without much of a problem.
Tessa took a bag off of her belt and tossed it toward Erin, grinning slightly. "Well, grats on your first pokemon catch! And here's some items for the road!"

Erin smiled triumphantly, and caught the bagged items the ranger tossed at her. "Thanks a bunch!~" she grinned, glancing through the items in the bag. "Oh," She looked up at Tessa, "Is there somewhere that my...pokemon can rest? I feel like I should conserve these potions if I can." She smiled sheepishly, spinning the pokeball containing Jynx around in her fingers.
She must have pressed a button though, because a bright red light flashed out of the pokeball and the still wounded Jynx appeared, looking a great deal annoyed at her newbie trainer. "Oops..sorry." An idea hit her, and she rummaged through her bag until she found the pokedex. She opened it up, turning it on, and it said in it's computer simulated voice: "Jynx, the Human Shape Pokémon. This Pokémon has some very unusual powers. Its special attack is the Lovely Kiss, which puts its opponent into a deep sleep. Jynx is known for expressing its many and varied feelings by dancing around in graceful and rhythmical motions." "Huh..." Erin said simply, not wanting to offend the Jynx, trying for a good first impression. "Well then Jynx, I think I shall call you Desiree from now on, if that is quite all right with you?" She said to the pokemon, smiling toothily.

Tessa nodded. "Yes. There's a healing center right in the tent, if you'll follow me." She advised, stepping back toward the Ranger tent. She'd gotten used to the girl's odd personage, and hadn't batted an eye once she looked at the girl again. It was a good way to heighten her professionalism. Her Noctowl trudged next to her, expression generally uncaring.
They arrived at the tent, at which Tessa lifted one of the flaps and stepped inside, holding it open for Erin. She also pointed out where the healing center was - a machine with six openings to place pokeballs. It was a pretty fast model, healing pokemon in just about five seconds.

"Okay" Erin smiled, following a few paces behind Tessa. She looked down to see if Desiree was following. She was, but quite far away for how much they had walked. "Oops...Sorry Desiree, return." She held up the pokeball, the worn out pokemon not complaining about going back into the ball. She then about faced and jogged up to be a few paces behind Tessa once more, not wanting to invade her personal bubble.
Erin had to duck to go into the tent, but found it was quite adequate enough for her to actually stand in. "Thank you." She thanked Tessa for holding the flap open for her, and walked over to the machine the other girl had pointed to. As she tinkered with the machine, she said, "So, what made you decide to become a ranger?" and finally figured out how to shrink the ball to put it into the socket. She searched for a button, the obvious 'start' catching her eye soon enough. She smirked at herself, and pressed the button, watching the machine hum to life.
It finished the healing or whatever it had been doing much sooner than Erin would have guessed, and she took Desiree's pokeball out of the socket, calling her forth again. The annoyed Jynx appeared from out of the red light, blinking a couple of times then smiled appreciatively. "Jynx~" Erin smiled back at her pokemon, glad that she was in a better mood.

Looking towards her trusted companion, the Ranger slowly stroked the top feathers on her Noctowl as they watched the new trainer bond with the newly caught Jynx. It looked to be a good first impression; much better than the one she had with this particular Pokemon when she first caught it. From ignorant and lazy to wise and diligent, she realized just how far she came with her Noctowl.
"Why did I choose to be a Ranger? Well, this isn't the only part of the job. I like going out on the field and being able to help people." She thought about the question a little more as she slowly began to leave the Ranger Tent, motioning for the pokemorph to follow her.
"I started as a Trainer though, and got my Pokemon at the lab. The one near here, to be specific. It was a good experience, I think you'll like it." She gave another glance back to her Noctowl, who cracked his beak open so it parted to resemble a fond smile. Yes, they knew what it was like to just start out. Hopefully this girl would have it a lot easier then they did.
