The night was beginning to fall upon Route one as a young cloaked girl made her way onward towards the Electric City. She wore a long dark purple dress, loose enough that she could run if needed, and a long black cloak that helped to protect her from the weather. Clipped to a black belt around her waist were her pokeballs, and as of right now, only one was filled. It held her Krabby, Carl. She had yet to spend any time with it, and silently she knew it would be a good idea to do so, but she just wanted to get far away from the ranger station and home. Now that it was getting dark she was feeling a little more alone, and so she needed someone. Her face was hidden in her heavy black hood, and she let that drop back before she reached to her hip and unclipped the pokeball. She looked at it for a moment and stepped off to the side of the route before setting Krabby free out of it's confinement.
The Krabby looked around for a moment, looking confused at it's dark surroundings. Last time it had been out it had been the light of day, and with a strange batman character watching him. He turned slowly and paused, examining the young girl. It's bright orange looked like more of a dull brown orange because of the pale moonlight shining down through the trees. "Hi There...." Cheryl mumbled before crouching down in front of the crab Pokémon. She smiled at him kindly, "I'm Cheryl. And I don't know what everyone used to call you where you came from, but I'll call you Carl..." The water Pokémon looked at her for a moment before blinking slowly then 'cackling' at her. "Kr-abby krab!" <Alright. Hi!> She smiled and stood back up. "Alright new friend. Lets get a move on." The Krabby clicked at her before stepping into pace beside her. It seemed like they were off to a good start, she just hoped that it really liked her like it seemed it did and wasn't just being nice.

The sun was starting to fade, and it made one Bellsprout very unhappy. She loved the sun, in all it's warmth and glory. But now she'd have to head back home and dig her roots into the ground until the sun rose the next morning, welcoming her back to the daylight like an old friend. She'd went through most of her life without real friends, and so the sun was her constant companion... until darkness, of course. Truth be told, this plant Pokemon was a little afraid of the dark. Not the thing itself, but rather the creatures that lurked in it. A Zubat had attacked her once, and she'd never quite gotten over the trauma of that experience.
She passed several other Pokemon, but didn't say a word to any of them. A couple of Bidoof were playing over by the creek, obviously not caring that the precious sun was dying away. No one cared like she did. With a slightly indignant sniff, she passed them by. When you were a plant, you couldn't exactly run, or even walk, as fast as a lot of the other Pokemon. Her progress was slow as she picked over a particularly rough patch of ground, littered with painful stones, a couple of rotten berries, and some human item that was crumpled up. Hmph. Trainers didn't seem to realize that, by tossing their trash onto the roots, Pokemon like this Bellsprout would absorb the pollution right into their routes. It could kill. She'd seen it happen.
Now, this didn't make her hate all trainers. Bellsprout was a kind soul, because as not many extended the same courtesy to her, she knew how awful it could be, to be looked down upon. But almost all of them were scary at night. She was just picking her way across the path when the crunch of footsteps made her freeze. Terrified and uncertain, the plant Pokemon went deathly still. Maybe if she just didn't move, they wouldn't see her...

The group, that is Cheryl and Carl, were a rather peaceful group, that was how Cheryl was raised, to love and care for others. Her father had been a pokemon handler, and her mother a small time daycare runner. Therefore Cheryl would rather talk her way through a fight than blatantly send her pokemon into a battle. As she and Carl walked down the darkening trail it seemed that the Krabby noticed something off to the side, she looked at him as he skittered to a stop and stared at something yellow. She squinted her eyes at it and realized that it was a pokemon she was familiar with, a Bellsprout. She smiled a friendly smile and nodded to Carl who looked up. "Go on." The Krabby turned and, with his pincers down as to not look aggressive, approached the wild pokemon. Kr-krabby-ab-kra <Hey there! Sorry if we scared you.> The Krabby looked at the Bellsprout kindly, actually sorry if he and his trainer scared the little Bellsprout.

<If I don't move, they can't see me... If I don't move...> The poor, paranoid plant was thinking hard, trying to convince herself that there was no danger of being seen by the two that were wandering down the path. She didn't see very well in the dark, and she hadn't been able to tell whether they were friendly or not. In desperation, she closed her eyes and even stopped breathing. With any luck, they'd just walk right on by-
<AIEEEEE!>
The sprout Pokemon shrieked in horror, her eyes snapping open, when she heard a voice close to her. <You nearly gave me a heart attack!> she said accusingly, fluttering her leaves to fan her face. After calming down, however, she realized that she could remember what the Krabby had said to her. They were sorry if they'd scared her. Sorry? <How can I be sure that I can trust you?> she asked doubtfully, frowning slightly. <But... but if you really mean no harm...> After all, she liked to believe the best in people. <What are you doing out so late? The sun will be gone until morning soon...>

Cheryl stepped away from the Krabby and the Bellsprout, she didn't want to stress them out. Most trainers would have probably jumped at the opportunity to attack the little pokemon and try to catch it, but not her. She left her hood down and silently fiddled wit her necklace as Carl chatted with the Bellsprout. The Krabby watched as the Bellsprout fanned herself, he looked sorry for giving her such a fright. Why were they out so late? He smiled at the Bellsprout, <Well we are trying to find a nice place to stop. Rather than in the middle of the path.> He pointed back towards his trainer Cheryl, <She's a new trainer and doesn't much care for fighting others so she chose to travel later in the evening to avoid such.> His bright eyes flicked over the Bellsprout. He looked a bit worried, <Aren't you supposed to be with other Bellsprouts? It's almost night after all>

Knowing that she didn't have any true friends to call her own, the Bellsprout's bright yellow head bowed shamefully at the question. It wasn't something that she was proud to admit, but the only true companion that she had ever enjoyed was the sun. What better place to greet that friend than by going home? She figured that with this in mind, it was a good basis for explaining her situation.
<I'm on my way home, actually. I had some errands to run, and I ended up staying out longer than I planned.> She answered truthfully, trying to dodge the friend question as best as she could. Thinking over the Krabby's other statement though, she tried to think of a suitable place for the human to stay. There was one place, but she wouldn't dare go in there alone. What an awful place that was at night for Pokemon like her!
<T-there is an abandoned human hut farther along. I-I could take you to it, if you like.> She offered, bending back and forth to keep her weight off of her roots so they wouldn't absorb the polluted soil.

Krabby watched the Bellsprout answered his question, at first he thought she answered it in full, then realized she avoided the friendship part of the question. He blinked at her sadly before taking a step back as she moved. <T-there is an abandoned human hut farther along. I-I could take you to it, if you like.> He smiled at her, <That would be great! Thank you!> He glanced over to Cheryl who was silently watching them and raised a claw as if to tell her to follow. He looked to Bellsprout again, watching as she took higher than normal steps to avoid the tainted ground. Cheryl stepped into pace behind them, more behind Carl than the Bellsprout. <You know.> Carl started <If you traveled with us we could get you away from this...polluted ground.> His tone was kind and soft, honestly worried about the polluted ground and her roots.

The Bellsprout nodded her bright yellow head when the human thanked her. <It would be no trouble,> she said, already turning in the direction of the human-hut she'd been talking about. She'd stumbled across it one day while she was heading home one night, but she hadn't been brave enough to go inside. It had been another Pokemon, a Hoothoot that nested in the tree just outside, that had told her what it was used for. What a daft thought, sleeping inside! Then you wouldn't feel the sun warm your leaves when you woke!
Well, humans didn't have leaves.
But still!
Surprised by the offer, she momentarily paused in the shifting of her roots to glance at the trainer, wondering whether to trust the offer. They certainly hadn't seemed harmful, though. And it would be nice, not having to worry about the dirty, polluted soil she was standing in all the time.
Then again... would she have to give up her precious and faithful companion, the sun, in order to accept this new partnership? A troubled expression crossed her face as this came to mind. <It's this way,> she said, heading toward the human-hut as she thought about the offer. Eventually, the Bellsprout just decided to ask. <Would I still be able to spend time in the sun each day? I get terribly lonely without it's company...>

Carl walked along behind the Bellsprount as she slowly made the way to the abandoned human house. He looked back at Cheryl as the Bellsprout did, in enough time to see her kindly smile at the grass pokemon leading the way. <Go outside and see sun? Of course!> He smiled at her and picked up his pace a bit to keep with the basically tiptoeing Bellsprout. <She would most likely let you out every day, unless it is dark and no sun or extremely hot, something uncomfortable> He was nodding as he stared at the trail ahead of them, wondering what this place would be like. He was tired, but his trainer had been out longer than him and he was sure she was exhausted. Cheryl however just trudged along silently, hands in pockets as her heavy dark clothing kept her warm.

The Bellsprout considered their offer as she trudged along diligently, trying to avoid the ugly spots of soil as best as she could with her limited night vision. The way he worded his answer surprised her though, not exactly fond of his choice of words. A lot of times, when there was room for doubt, the unlikely possibility was magically likely to happen.
<Most likely, huh?> She commented lightly, pretending that she hadn't been all that bothered by the phrase. She finally managed to lead them right to the human hut, which looked like a run down wooden cabin that had been abandoned for years. The door was closed, but it looked like something that could easily be opened.
She didn't particularly want to go in, since it looked even darker in there than it did outside. What she didn't know was that right in the windowsill, one could see electric lamps hanging around the room, only turned off. Maybe the place had electricity?

Carl looked to Bellsprout as she repeated part of what he said, <Of course she would let you out in the sun...and the rain if you wanted, but if it was night she wouldn't.> He scuttled forward and stared at the abandoned cabin, he blinked at it slowly, unsure. <She wouldn't make you go out in weather you didn't like.> He turned and looked to Cheryl, before turning back to the cabin. Cheryl looked between the two pokemon, then the shack. She stepped forward and around the Krabby she stepped up to the cabin and knocked before pushing the door open slowly. She peered inside, "Hello?" She glanced back at the two pokemon before pushing her way into the cabin, it was a bit warmer than the cooling outdoors and gave good shelter. She saw a lamp and gently tried turning it on.

Immediately when the woman turned on the lamp, a loud flapping was sounded. A huge number of zubats beat their wings and beat their way out the door past Cheryl, hissing annoyedly. One particularly small zubat, however, lingered on the ceiling and stared at Cheryl and her Pokémon with a curious gaze.
There was no answer from the Bellsprout, and if one listened they would have believed that the little plant had fled in terror - very likely, supposedly. However, the plant was standing deathly still behind Cheryl's legs, daring not to move an inch. The grass-type even started to resemble a mysterious other plant - minus the eyeballs, of course.
What was flashing through the plant's mind was that of terror, of the time she'd gotten attacked by a zubat one time and had been scarred for long after. The flock of bats that exited the home had ignited that memory.

Cheryl flinched as the zubat all flew away from the light, through the door and out into the night. Her eyes had flinched shut and she kept them that way for a moment, worried that if she opened her eyes she would see that not all of them left, and the one or few left would decide to attack her, something she dreaded if it was to happen. She swallowed nervously and slowly started opening her purple eyes, the flaps of the fleshy wings fading into the night. She looked around, and for a moment she was glad, she didn't see anything. Then she herd something, the breaking of something living. It frightened her, then she realized it was herself near hysteria. She took a deep breath to calm herself then looked up, eyes meeting one last lonely zubat.
Carl shifted slightly and stepped into the room with a 'click click'. His eyes flicked up to the zubat and narrowed. <You there. Why didn't you flee with your friends?> He glanced at bellsprout and stepped in front of her, using his claw as a shield to block any attacks from the zubat from hitting the grass pokemon. Cheryl shifted to put herself between the Bellsprout and the lingering Zubat.

::bellsprout:: ::zubat:: Pkmn encounter ! Bellsprout was still shaking until the crab stepped in front of her and shielded her with a protective claw. It was so valiant of the Krabby that she felt her heart skip a beat. She then saw the woman stand in front of her as well, and her fears slowly melted away. Perhaps these two weren't so frightening after all.
The Zubat lingering on her perch continued to stay there, simply staring (if such a feat was possible of a blind bat) as the crab questioned her. Her head tilted in bewilderment. <What are you?> Questioned the bat, too young and innocent to ever have seen a human nor a crab in her life. She didn't know why her friends and family had just left her, but it was sure getting cold where she was sitting.

Cheryl stood there silently, feeling the panic slowly start to disappear in her as she stood there facing the bat pokemon. Carl lifted his head to get a better view of the bat pokemon, his eyes flicking over it as he realized that it was small in size because it was young, not weak. He offered a kind Krabby smile and spoke. <We were just seeking shelter for the night. This is my trainer, Cheryl and I'm Carl, a Krabby.> He calmly gestured to the Bellsprout <And this here is our Bellsprout friend.> He took a small step forward. <...err...how are you?>

<Ch...ch...> The Zubat gave a feeble attempt at pronouncing these strange foreign names, but whenever she tried to say them, her tongue went limp. It was as if it refused to say such strange sounding words. <Charl?> She tried again, except mixing up the two names into one, strange name. She flicked her ears at the strange sound, knowing that something wasn't right about what she said, but not knowing why.
<U-um...I d-don't know if I'll be comfortable staying here with a Zubat. I mean, what if the others come back?> The Bellsprout whispered over to Carl, her leafy arm gently brushing against his side to get his attention. She glanced back out the door with a nervous look, as if they would come pouring back into the shack at any minute. The only problem with this was that it was a bit too dangerous for her kind to be out here at this time of night.
It was just an ugly situation for her to be in, and she most certainly did not like it. The Zubat tilted her head curiously, then dove down from her upside down position on the ceiling, swerving over Cheryl's head and perching down on a nearby wooden chair. The Bellsprout squeaked in fear, ducking her head under her two leafy arms, but feeling no pain, she slowly looked back up. Oh... <Uh...I'm really cold now. I don't know why, but its warmer here.> The Zubat motioned over to a nearby electric powered lamp.

Carl watched as the young Zubat tried to say his, and Cheryl's, names. After he spoke Carl smiled and gave a small nodd < Close! > He scuttled forward a hair when Bellsprout spoke, he looked back at her sadly. <It'll be okay.> Just as he said that Cheryl shifted slightly and shut the door on the old cabin like building. The moonlight from outside was immediately shut out, only a sliver shining through the closed window. She looked at the Zubat as it flew towards the light. Slowly Cheryl walked over to the window and peered out, watching as a swath of zubats flew across the sky, disappearing back over the forest. Carl put himself between the zubat and bellsprout again. <You aren't going to try attack us are you?> The zubat spoke about the light, causing Carl to smile, <They are warm aren't they? Like a small..sun ...or fire.>

The Zubat thought about the question, wondering whether she should attack both the trainer and her companions. She felt no ill feelings towards them, and they were keeping her happy. It seemed quite silly to just go out and attack them for no reason like that. Why would such a question be brought up anyways?
<Why, not I. Though I heard once that moving around can keep you warmer. If you're cold, I could have a battle with you.> The Zubat suggested, using her echolocation to get a good look at the three. Out of all of them, the Bellsprout looked the coldest. Maybe a battle with her?
<I'm not interested in battles.> The Bellsprout huffed, but took special consideration into what the Krabby said. Was the light really that warm? She crawled onto a nearby wooden chair, then onto the desk in front of it to feel the warmth of the lamp. Ah, now that had felt nice. She gave a nervous glance at the Zubat, who was also basking in the lamp's heat. A little close for comfort, but she could tolerate it.
Accept Battle Invitation?

Carl listened to the Zubats offer and he glanced up at Cheryl, who was still gazing out the window at the sky. He wasn't cold, but he certainly was bored. He looked at the Zubat for a moment then spoke <If you want to we can, I'm sure she won't mind> He nodded towards his trainer and then looked to the Bellsprout <You can go ahead and get closer to the light if you want, I don't think Zubat is going to do anything...> At that moment Cheryl turned from the window and walked over she lookeda t the zubat for a moment before Carl looked at her and pointed towards it, he knew she couldn't understand him, but maybe she could guess. <Hey, Zubat offered a battle. What do you think?> She looked up to the zubat, not entirely sure what the situation was, but she nodded, accepting the battle. Carl looked to the Zubat. <Outside?> He motioned towards the door Cheryl was opening.

Agreeing to the conditions, the young Zubat eagerly flew outside while enjoying the crisp, fresh air. It felt nice to be out in such calming surroundings; clearly the night time was when she was at her best. Knowing that the Krabby was going to follow behind her, she occasionally let out soft clicking noises in order to pinpoint the water type's location. She was able to sense him somewhat inside, but she was simply too quick for him to keep up. Then again, she did kind of rush out.
<You start. You start.> She repeated quite happily, flying around in circles to show her excitement. She was quite confident that she would win, though she didn't have any reason for it. She just was, like all youth that believed they could do anything.
<Ah. Have fun?> The Bellsprout said, a bit unsure if that was the right thing to say. Fighting always seemed a bit cruel to her, since Pokemon got so passionate over winning. She wasn't about to risk hurting herself over something as silly as pride.
