[/tt] The best thing about the fact that the gym leaders were not type-based could be summed up in a few words. "Ville du Grand Pont Gym". Blaze had nightmares of those pools and the water Pokémon that could extinguish his fire Pokémon without any trouble. It had even given him the incentive to raise an electric pokemon, which is why Flash is such a crucial component in his team. With Flash gone, water Pokémon would be able to completely run him over.
Now, though... Blaze felt the victory in his grasps already. A grass meadow? This would be a lot easier than fighting on water. He would just have to be careful with the weaker members of his team that he still wanted to train. Wind would have to be on her feet and know when to back down. And if he needed to use his trump card, Ryuuku was always there for him.
"I would like to request a Gym Challenge," he announced loudly, walking onto the battlefield. Today was Tuesday. The Gym Leader should be available for battle.

With the open sun shining down on everyone in the Gym, things were feeling perfect and beautiful. Not strong enough for a Sunny Day’s effects, but it felt quite wonderous for the beauty that emerged from the field of flowers. All were real, and all were tended to daily. It was natural for them to get destroyed during battles, but that was fine with her. It gave her something to do when she wasn’t busy training with her Pokemon, or beating up crooks or thieves with only a bikini top on and a skirt.
Paris shared the old Gym Leader’s passion for swimming, but in many aspects, considered herself as a much better candidate for the Gym Leader position. Having themed Pokemon were so much more interesting than being restricted by type. She eyed the new trainer with a calculating gaze, one that seemed oddly cold despite her whorish flashy clothing. Suddenly she seemed bubbly, ditzy, and giggly, like a blonde. Something wasn’t to be trusted about this girl. ”Oh, hiya. Gym Battle, you said? Sure you aren’t here to just admire the view?” She asked, winking and giggling at Blaze. She had three Pokeballs decorating her waist, with the aid of a special Pokeball belt. Unclasping one of them, she grinned as she threw it out onto the field.
”Chad, smell the flowers if you wish. He might need some time deciding which Pokemon to use.” She giggled, watching the Flaaffy pick up a delicate blue flower and munch on it, totally ignoring the scary man dressed in black.

She seemed like an easy win, to him. The only problem he could foresee would be Ashes. She was a bit underleveled, but it was time the Pokémon lost a few battles. He was not going to tolerate her attitude for much longer. He released the quilava, who had been napping in her pokeball, clutching her lucky egg. The small object was attached to a chain around her neck so she wouldn't lose it.
Ashes was excited. A gym battle! How glorious! She could already see herself sweeping her opponents and showing Blaze, along with that stupid dragon of his, that she was the best. Why else would he have let her out first? The flame on her head and back burned strongly as she felt rather pumped for the match. Restless, the quilava seemed to hop from one feet to the other, getting ready to just start already. The Pokémon did take a moment to glance back toward Ryuuku, grinning at him in a 'haha, he chose me and not you' kind of look. The Charizard wasn't baited. He was just waiting for that little sheep of Paris' to beat the snotty quilava to the ground.
"Shall we start now?" he asked the Paris. Was she seriously the gym leader around here? Blaze wasn't impressed at all by her attitude. She was probably going to cry when he won against her, which would be rather unpleasant. As long as he got the badges again. He was determined to make it to the Pokémon league and officially claim the title as a Pokémon master. If Syl had done it, so could he.

- Paris had a calculating look as the Quilava was sent out, having recalled that they were a popular starter Pokemon in the Johto region. Another look at the trainer showed a powerful shiny Charizard; a Kanto starter, at its final stage nonetheless. A beast such as that had to be at least in the upper 30s, while with the second stage Pokemon? She wasn’t sure. It could have been a trick for all she knew, either being just as strong as that Charizard while being too stubborn to evolve, or it was in the proper level range for Chad to beat up. Letting out a chuckle as Chad raised a cute eyebrow at the excited Pokemon, having no idea why she was so happy, the lamb baa’d out a sigh.
- ”Get through it Chad, I think you can take out at least one of his Pokemon.” She giggled, faking blissful ignorance of what was to come. Her breasts jiggled with each bouncy step she took, which was known for causing quite the distraction against most male opponents. ”Ladies first. It’s a rule you know.” She stuck out her tongue playfully at Blaze, having the act down to a ‘T’.
- ”I’m in a good mood, so let’s take it easy at first.” She spoke mostly to Chad on this, but what she said was no secret. ”Flatter the dear, and then decorate the field with your Cotton Spores.” She chimed, recalling hearing some coordinators speak in such a manner. Though by no means was she attempting to recreate their dramatic tones. The Flaaffy bobbed a lazy head in agreement, and suddenly his tail began to glow a faint purple. Waving it back and forth in a hypnotic manner at the Quilava, he suddenly winked at her. If that worked, surely she would be confused, gaining a bit of special attack in the process. Ego boosts tended to do that sort of thing, no? Then with a lazy shake of his body, random puffy spores floated into the air. Not the most accurate of moves, but they still happily bobbed themselves near the Quilava. Hopefully no one was allergic.

A flaaffy. Electric type, first stage, and probably high enough level to give Ashes a challenge. Not that his Pokémon seemed to care. The quilava was having the time of her life, her flame burning brightly and excitedly waiting for a battle. The trainer did not care much for Paris' attitude. Was she seriously a gym leader? She certainly did not act like one.
The first attack came a bit unexpectedly. But Blaze should have known that gym leaders raised their Pokémon well and bred them for success. He could only watch as Ashes stared right into the pokemon's attack and, though her fire burned a bit brighter, she was utterly confused. Well damn.
The next attack that came was the cotton spore that covered the ground in patches, slowing down anything that touched it. With Ashes being both hyperactive and just a bit confused, she stepped right into the trap pit. Well this wasn't going well.
"Ember, and try aiming a bit before firing," Blaze told the Pokémon. There was a lot of spores on the field and he did not quite want to burn the gym down. Not yet, at least. Unfortunately, the fireballs that came out of Ashes' mouth were sporadic, random, and definitely not properly aimed. They were shot in the general direction, but stray balls of flame touched the cotton spores, setting them on fire as they came into contact.

As the flames came into contact with the spores, setting them alight, Paris frowned. "You know I'll have to pay for this place if it burns down, right?" She was a little concerned for her Gym, naturally. However, it turned out it was her Flaaffy she needed to worry about. The white afro on his head caught fire, and he dropped to the ground and rolled frantically to deprive the flames of oxygen. "Oh my gawd," gawked Paris, glaring at Blaze. "That was mean! Chad, show him your best Growl and an awesome Thundershock!" Paris fistpumped in shared enthusiasm for the battle. The Flaaffy let out a Growl, which wasn't all that intimidating but would lower attack. Blue static began to crackle around his singed head, before a thick bolt of sizzling electric blue electricity flew towards the Quilava. ::flaaffy:: Chad ued Growl and Thundershock.

It wasn't as if the power was going to go out, or anything. He did have a little smile on his face at the thought of setting fire, just to annoy that gym leader. But he had more to worry about. Ashes was confused -- not the best situation, but he should still be strong enough to at least deal a good amount of damage. Though the growl did not do much, as Blaze preferred using the ember attack anyways, the thunderbolt was quite deadly. It hit the quilava harder than it should have, which definitely calmed the pokemon down.
His opponent was strong -- there was no time for games. Time for the favoured combo, then. The quilava could help but be excited, but he still felt quite confused about the whole situation.
"Ashes, Smokescreen and Ember!" Blaze called out, and the command was just what Ashes was waiting for. First off came the smoke, which covered the quilava in a dark blanket, before a few specks of red flickered through from the ember attack, until it finally broke through the smoke, shooting toward the flaaffy.

Flaaffy Hit by Ember Uses Thunder Wave - Oh dear. Now there was a light smokescreen covering the area. She could somewhat see the Quilava's form through it, which was good enough for her. But if that gathered in enough layers, well, then it wouldn't be so good for Chad. "Dodge and Thunder Wave." She humphed, feeling a bit ashamed that her opponent was playing such nasty tricks on her.
- <Fine, fine, m'lady.> The Flaaffy rubbed some of the charred wool out of his eyes. Getting a good glimpse of where the brightly colored embers were aimed. He briskly stepped to the side, but somehow the edges of his fur were tainted with their hasty red glow. He winced, trying to avoid showing pain to their tough opponents. He had orders to complete!
- "Just watch and learn. Once Chad gets ya, he gets ya good." Paris giggled with glee, pleased as the Flaaffy let out a wild burst of static electricity. It danced across the field, shuffling around the flowers as it made contact with them. The electric sparks wouldn't actually cause damage, but they could play some nasty tricks with the nervous system.

The wave of electrical sparks hit her and she felt her whole body tense up, unable to move them. She let out a cry of surprise and distress, never having felt something like this before.
Blaze was one to know when to just cut his losses. With Ashes still confused, and now paralyzed by the Flaaffy's electrical attack, it was time to start being serious. "Ashes, return for now," he told the pokemon, the only warning she got before he returned her to her pokeball. At least after a bit of a rest, she wouldn't be confused anymore.
"Hell, time to burn this place down," he said, releasing a much larger pokemon. The legendary beast stood proud, and though he was a tad smaller than most other enteis (or at least that's what Blaze could find out through his past research), it was still a strong creature. "Start off with an Ember."
Hell hadn't battled singles in quite a while, and this was a rather new experience for him. Usually he was paired up with his caring Arcanine partner, but since his trainer wanted him to go all out on what seemed to be a cuddly, flammable sheep, that is what he was going to do. The ember he spat out of his mouth was a lot larger than Ashes' the fireballs larger in size and shooting out faster than the quilava could ever hope for.

Paris blinked in shock as she saw the Entei emerge from it Pokeball. What the hell? He had a legendary Pokémon... and he just seemed so nonchalant about it, simply saying: "Start off with an Ember." The man's attitude shocked Paris. "Duuude... is that an Entei?" asked Paris, needing clarification from the Trainer himself about just what she was fighting. But even before she finished with the query, the burst of fire from the Entei's mouth engulfing Chad and setting several more cottonspores drifting lazily through the Gym ablaze without a sound. Chad cried out in pain as the fire ignited the fluffy white parts of his body that remained from his time as a Mareep. He stopped, dropped and rolled until the flames were out, then got to his feet again, breathing heavily, his body painfully singed. Paris contemplated the move for a moment, biting her bottom lip concernedly. Chad was clearly out of his league here, but they shared a lifelong friendship, and she knew he hated being recalled early, even if he was injured. Still, this was a complicated situation. She was dealing with a legendary here, for Arceus' sake! Bring out her Pokeball, she recalled Chad with a baa of protest. Taking out a new Pokeball, she sent out her strongest Pokemon, a Sableye by the name of Mia, whom she'd had the pelasure of knowing almost her whole life. Mia was already in battle position when she emerged from her Pokeball. "Fake Out!" commanded Mia, a more serious expression on her face as she looked at the Entei, who seemed so calm and collected. Just like its Trainer... Mia nodded and stared at the Entei, before raising her hands slowly. Surely. And clapping them together. A shockwave spread out from the point of contact, extinguishing the blazing cottonweeds in its unstoppable rush towards the Entei, while Mia simply smiled confidently in front of her Trainer. ::flaaffy:: Weakened. Returned.

This was the power of a legendary pokemon, and he enjoyed it quite a bit. Sometimes, though, he did wish to switch his team up a bit. Though it was intimidating and to be feared, it set him apart, mad him so much different, and oftentimes his victories were attributed to his pokemon, rather than his training and skill.
Just as he had switched, it seemed Paris had also changed her attacking pokemon. The electric type was returned in exchange for a sableye. He looked at the pokemon, trying to remember what he knew about them. Not a lot, frankly. He specialized in fire types and really slacked off on the types that were unrelated. However, he did remember that this particular pokemon was quite interesting as it had no weaknesses. In that case, brute force would be the only thing necessary.
"Fire," he commanded, and the entei was readying an attack, flames burning in his maw, when the sableye attacked. The pokemon came in out of nowhere, completely catching him off guard. Hell was hit, making him flinch and unable to execute the attack. The trainer had a sour look on his face as he realized what attack this was. Well, next turn, it would be time for him to destroy this place. In fact, Hell already had flames building back at the back of his throat, readying for the next attack.

Paris + Mia
{ Mia } Level 26 Flatter + Astonish
"I-I see you must be an impressive trainer, because no legendary would allow themselves to be possessed by someone less than capable." Paris tried to make some kind of conversation with the guy, especially now that he caught her interest with yet another rare Pokemon. She figured that the Quilava was just a starter from Johto, but an Entei was something else entirely. To say in the very least, they weren't the kind to run loose in your backyard.
Inwardly she was relieved that the Fake Out had worked on such a beast-- but it was hardly injured. Normally Fake Out was strong against its opponents, but this one must've been at a higher level than Mia. Shame. They were going to have to try things the long way if they ever stood a chance.
"Flatter the dear with love, then strike with Astonish." She giggled, while the Sableye's mouth widened into one giant grin. The creepy ghost's eyes glittered with some kind of mystical power as her voice spoke in a hypnotic tone.
<What a fine mane you have there, why, how warm you must be in this terrible Winter. Not many Pokemon can boast of such comforts, but I'm sure you're very hospital, oh yes. Keeping your trainer warm must bring such pleasure to you.> She chuckled a little, saying anything that sounded remotely kind the moment she thought of it. If the Flatter didn't do its job, then it was time to go into action. Speedy like a giant ant with big legs that scuttled everywhere, and twice as creepy, the Sableye quickly ran across the grass on all fours until she was just close enough to strike. Out of no where she let out a loud scream as her claws made a quick Scratch at the Entei's paw, if Hell didn't move.

This gym leader obviously did not know who he really was, unlike the one in the first gym. Figures. A woman like that, ditzy and probably just plain stupid, wouldn't know anything about the legacy of the area. His name had been associated with fire as he was professor. How did they forget so easily? It was obvious that even the legendary hound of fire would obey him.
"You speak as if you even considered a victory in this battle," he answered Paris. "Hell, finish it. Fireblast." If this didn't burn the field of flowers, nothing would.
Though the entei did his best not to really listen to what the sableye had to say, he couldn't help but feel flattered, his ego raising with his special attack. However, the words had another affect on him -- confusion. His head started to fog a bit and the astonish attack startled him, making him recoil a bit from the scratch. Immediately, he tried to focus and sent a fire blast from his maw, the flames strong enough to scorch anything in touched, the temperature of the gym raising by a few degrees.

Paris gasped at the Fire Blast as it scorched her spores and flora, leaving incinerated petals and blackened fluff trailing through the air. Bug, Grass and Normal Type Pokemon who had been frolicking and playing outside of the battlefield fled the scene, squealing as the fire got close to them. Luckily they were all herded into a nearby room by the Gym assistants before any could be hurt. "My babies!" shrieked Paris, panicking a little for the first time, eyes wild as she watched her Gym burning around her. "How could you?!" she demanded. And then the Fire Blast hit her Sableye. Mia was sent flying back into the blaze, and tried to force herself up, but the heat from the burning battlefield brought her down once again, the gems in her eyes dulling as she surrendered to the encroaching darkness and fainted. "Return!" demanded Paris, fumbling with Mia's Pokeball. >Return!< she shrieked frantically, the red light finally returning the burning Sableye to her Pokeball. Glaring with hate and fear at Blaze while the immolated spores and singed pink petals blew around her head, she sent out Chad again. She wanted to save Arianna as a last resort, and she may as well do some damage with Chad while he was standing. "Thundershock!" she ordered, and the weakening Flaaffy obeyed, sending out a blue bolt of electricity at the Entei. ::sableye:: Mia has fainted. Hell gains a level.

Though Blaze wasn't too happy with the fact Hell was confused, and thus every move he asked from the beast could potentially result in him attacking himself, there was also the fact that Hell wasn't that much stronger than the pokemon he was facing. The attacks were starting to take a toll on the proud beast, and even though the canine would never show it outright, Blaze could tell that he seemed to be favouring one of his paws.
At least he had the satisfaction of burning down the gym. The Sableye had gone down, and now it was time for the flaaffy to go down. "Shadow Ball," commanded Blaze, hoping to just get this done quickly. If his pokemon did not move, hopefully the confusion wouldn't get to him. He would be a sitting duck, an easy target, but this was the best he could come up with. The thundershock had hit, bringing Hell's health down even further.
The entei tried to ready a counter, a dark ball already forming in his mouth, but the combination of the thundershock and the inability to control his body properly made one of his legs give away, the shadow ball flying way off course while Hell could only grunt in pain as he awkwardly fell, his limbs getting tangled. Blaze could only curse internally while showing a confident facade as he thought about his next move.

{ Chad } Level 20 WeakThunderwave & Thundershock
"Well this...is hardly a fair match." Paris bit her lip, hard, in order to keep her composure but her face was flushed with an angry red. Things seemed hopeless now, but seeing that the Entei was confused and doing damage to itself, there seemed to be a slight chance. Regardless of whether she won or lost, she had a duty as a Gym Leader to fight as noble as she could. To the bitter end. Perhaps it was her stubbornness that led her through so many hard battles like these, but she usually prevailed. Not many trainers made it to la Foret Magique, after all.
"Alright." She sighed, not knowing what else to do except her usual strategy of confusing and paralyzing. "Thunder Wave and Thundershock. Combine it." Her eyes narrowed dangerously at the command, knowing that even if the attack was weak, preventing the Entei from attacking was top priority (yeah, sorry Ari).
Chad huffed as a funky blue electricity began to dance around his body, the weak Thunderwave, and then the yellow Thundershock was added into the mix. The colors combined and formed a lime green electricity, and with an angry stare at the confused legendary Pokemon, he shot it in one blast towards the Entei. It was no stronger than a normal Thundershock, but it would guarantee paralysis if it hit. If. A very powerful word.

They were small and Paris might not be able to see it from afar, but inside were five little metallic badges.
"This is just a warm up for me, on the way back to the top. Hell, stand strong and finish it. Shadow Ball!"
The paralysis from the thunderbolt and thunderwave combination unnerved him a bit. Blaze still did not want his Entei to move from that position, to minimize the effects of confusion, but that only meant that the thunderbolt attack him dead on. Sparks around the legend's body told Blaze that he was paralyzed. Blaze just hoped this attack would work.
Hell was not too pleased with his current situation. The confusion and paralysis combination did quite a bit to his body, and his trainer's commands to simply stay put was allowing every single attack to hit. He was not sure how much longer he could take this, but his limit was soon approaching. He just hoped to crush the flaaffy first. It was his will to power through both confusion and paralysis, though he had to admit that the lack of movement did help him out, and quickly sent a shadow ball hurling toward the pink pokemon. Minimalistic movements, but the power behind the attack was what Hell was counting on.

Paris stood still as formerly white, fluffy spores descended around her, disintegrating into dying embers, literally raining fire before touching on the grass and flowers, creating new, smaller infernos which spread to surround Chad. Paris chewed her lips so hard they drew blood, ruining her purple lipstick as the shadow ball hurtled towards the Flaaffy at a breakneck pace, and he could go nowhere without being immolated by the encroaching inferno. A bleat of agonised pain escaped the ram's mouth as the ball struck him right in the stomach, knocking his breath away. The breeze generated from the point of contact as the large sphere burst was enough to put out the flames, and a good thing too, because the momentum from the attack sent the light sheep airborne, flipping several times before coming to rest in a stack of ashes from the incinerated meadow. A concerned Paris returned the Pokemon to his Pokeball and withdrew her last one. Surely she could do something. That Pokemon was a legendary but it wasn't invincible. Arianna didn't have quite the power of Mia but she was at least stronger than Chad, and her last hope to boot. Throwing the Pokeball, a Lopunny formed from the shapeless white light of emergence and stood calmly amidst the flames, waiting for her order, elegant and graceful in her composure as she waited for her Trainer to speak. "Alright Arianna, Jump Kick!" demanded Paris shakily. She was just a warm up huh? Well she would show him just what a warm up could do to his overconfidence. As Arianna ran through the flames, close to all but touched by none, before leaping up into the sky, one leg outstretched in an attempt to plant its blunt, deceptively powerful foot into the Entei's face, the other at her side for balance, Paris watched nervously. Getting into close quarters with a legendary was a risky manoeuvre, but one that would greatly profit if done right. She could only hope Arianna would make contact now. ::flaaffy:: Chad has fainted. Ashes and Hell each gain half a level.
::lopunny:: Arianna uses Jump Kick.

The paralysis and confusion did not help him either and Blaze saw that it was the end of this pokemon in battle. Hell had served him well, but he had all but fainted and it was time for his mate to finish things up.
"Return," he called out, holding a couple of pokeballs in his hand. While one of them retrieved the Entei from the battlefield, swapping him with Hades. The new canine was even larger than the Entei, her fur thick and radiating the heat from her body. The Arcanine stared the buneary down as she waited for her command.
"Agility, Fire Fang," Blaze said, his eyes surveying the scene. Hell's previous attack had made quite a mess already, charring the gym and the meadow-like field. She let out a bark, powerful and majestic, before she attacking. Strength filler her legs, allowing her to go faster, leaping side to side before her jaw opened, revealing fiery fangs, aimed right at the buneary.

Paris breathed a sigh of relief as the Entei was reconfined, but her breather was short lived as an even larger Pokemon was called forth. Another Fire Type. Arcanine. Paris had never wished for Cheyenne Gyms to stick to their element of choice so much in her entire career. She wanted water Pokemon more than anything now. Arianna cried out in anguish as the blindingly fast Arcanine's teeth sank into her fluffy flesh, staining her cream coloured ruffs a rusty scarlet. For a moment there was only pain, but then there was heat, flooding through the wound, boiling her blood and dealing significant internal damage to add insult to injury. "Quick attack!" yelled Paris, and Arianna tore herself free, bleeding from her side before rushing in for a rapidly fast attack, her body blurring in anticipation of contact. ::lopunny:: Used Quick Attack.
