Cleon couldn't believe how well he was doing at this point. The Poliwag had barely gotten a hit in edgewise. A small voice in the back of his mind protested the unfairness of such a thing, but he remembered the words of his grandmother as they made their way to the Ranger Station: "Pokemon, generally, of course, enjoy fighting. Playful fighting, at least. Don't be ashamed of beating them into the dirt. For fun, of course." Cleon took his mind out of the battle for just a moment to grin at her words. Such a sweet old lady, most people thought. Maybe he'd end up like her, tough when it came to Pokemon? Maybe.
Seeing the Poliwag appear to regain its senses, Cleon scowled. He'd hoped it would be confused for longer than that. Ah, well. "Try and give it a bite before it can completely snap out of it," he told his Zubat, who squeaked assent and darted forward in an attempt to drain the energy out of his foe.

Poliwag screeched as his energy flew from himself to the Zubat. >Oh my! Oh no! Oh no oh no oh no!< he cried, and shook his head. This was rather rude of them, stealing his energy like that, and he felt like he had to repay them in kind... but he knew no health absorbing techniques. Alas, a spray of bubbles would have to do. Opening his mouth, the Poliwag sucked in air until his stomach puffed out and his cheeks inflated, before blowing out no less than six bubbles, drifting towards the Zubat. He had specifically aimed them towards the annoying blue bat's eyes. ::poliwag:: Poliwag used Bubble.

Fortunately for Prometheus, Zubats happen to lack eyes. As such, the spray of bubbles did not blind him as the Poliwag must have been hoping. Still, the Bubble attack did hit the fluttering bat straight on, knocking him backwards a few feet in shock.
Cleon was, in actuality, quite proud of the little Poliwag's aim. Apparently focusing on a moving target was good for the little guy. He couldn't help but shout out support for both battling Pokemon. "Nice shot, Poliwag! Prometheus! Swing around for another Zen Headbutt!" He waved his arm around in a circle, hoping his friend would catch its meaning and try and hit the Poliwag from behind. Prometheus did attempt to do so, zipping forward and trying to dart behind the Poliwag before attempting to smash into it.

The Poliwag blushed bashfully from the surprise compliment from the trainer, thinking that it was kind of nice to hear that kind of support from time to time. Indeed, his bubbles were on target that time. He felt a big difference in his training from when he started, especially when he was challenging himself like this. He hopped up and down in excitement, pleased with his progress. The Poliwag's eyes snapped wide open once he heard the sound of flapping wings fast approaching, and looking about in a hurry, saw the Zubat charging in right behind him.
Raising his weak tail up to try and bat the Zubat away, he ended up slipping on one of the slippery rocks in the river. His tail most likely shook up the Zubat's flight pattern at least a little bit, but nothing that could harm him. Slowly pushing himself off of the ground with some difficulty, having no arms made things a lot harder, he finally got upright so he could make some kind of attack on the Zubat.
Inhaling the cool, crisp air that surrounded him, the Poliwag prepared the the weak bubbles inside of his body. Liquid water to gaseous bubbles was an easy phase change to make, and he spit out plenty of them despite his growing weakness.
Is Getting Weaker. Attempt To Capture/Keep Battling?

Cleon watched the battle, fists clenched and trembling with adrenaline. Engaged as he was, and determined to win, he couldn’t help but feel bad for the Poliwag as it stumbled and rolled around for a few vital seconds, unable to gain proper footing. Life must be hard without arms. He withheld further orders, not wanting to attack the small water-type while he was down, though it would be a fine way to end the match.
Prometheus was, indeed, thrown off course slightly by the Poliwag’s deflection, but easily regained his balance before tumbling into the water. Unfortunately, he could not spin around in time to bite at the unbalanced Poliwag, nor did Cleon even give him an order to do so. He clicked in frustration and went in for a Leech Life attack before Cleon could even get a word in edgewise. The bubbles hit him, yet again, straight on, but he was flying far too quickly for them to slow him down this time.

::poliwag:: Pkmn encounter ! Poliwag was far too tired to even attempt to avoid the coming mammal's attempt to suck out his energy and was hit by Leech Life with dead-on accuracy. The fangs punctured her side and sucked out valuable energy from the already discombobulated pokemon.
After a moment of thought the little tadpole realized that it was a prime chance to land a hit on his attacker - he was in very close range, after all. The bubbles formed in his body again, generated so fast that they became more like a foam than anything, and the little amphibian took aim at Prometheus before widening his little lips and firing off several bubbles at him.

Cleon scowled at Prometheus as the bat was hit full on by a blast of foamy bubbles. The Zubat zipped backwards, though Cleon could see that his partner was eager to end the fight. He, however, had a different plan in mind. "Hold back," he said to Prometheus firmly. The bat listened to him, fluttering up to circle the exhausted Poliwag, eager to bite again to refresh himself. Those bubbles certainly were getting annoying, and slowing him down far too much to his liking.
As quickly as he could, without jolting the female Zubat clinging to his arm, Cleon reached into his backpack and pulled out an empty Pokeball. After pushing the button to get it to its full size, he threw it at the weakened Poliwag, hoping his aim was true. Leaving an exhausted Pokemon flopped in a river didn't seem like a good idea to him. Besides: the Poliwag's aim would improve drastically should he have a human partner to help him out, right?

Poliwag squealed as the ball flew through the air at her. No fair! This was supposed to be training, not target practice! The ball struck her on the head, making her reel in shock, trying to balance even as the mysterious ball opened up and sucked her in with a flash of red as it sensed the touch of Pokémon DNA. She instinctively began to struggle, eyes widening in shock as she banged futilely against the walls of the Pokeball. She couldn't get out. She realized this with a whimper and shook her head in fear. But... it was rather comfortable in here. And warm. And snug. Sitting down inside the confines of the Pokeball, she looked around her new home as she wagged her tail. It... wasn't that bad. She could get used to this. The Pokeball pinged as Poliwag stopped struggling. You caught Poliwag! Name: You choose Level: 7 Gender: Male Ability: Damp Moves: Water Sport. Bubble. Personality: Naive. Friendly. Helpful. Grinning, Cleon hustled over to the edge of the stream where the Pokeball had fallen. He watched as the Poliwag stopped struggling in the confines of the sphere, and smiled even more widely. His first real encounter, and his first solo capture. He knelt down and picked up the red-and-white ball, examining it closely. For the first time, he wondered what it was like inside the thing, and glanced at Prometheus. The bat was zipping around, squeaking happily. <We won, we won, we won!>
"Great job, Theus," Cleon said, grabbing the Zubat out of the air and flopping it on his shoulder. "And now we can help the little guy with target practice all he wants, right?"
<Right right right right right!>
He clicked the Pokeball onto his belt and stood up, looking up and down the stream for any other disturbances. Prometheus, he realized after a moment, was a disturbance all of his own, still squeaking repeatedly. Cleon looked at the female Zubat on his other arm sympathetically, then said, "I do imagine you'd like him to shut up, hm?" He took the empty Pokeball from his belt and poked 'Theus with it. "Go get some rest, little guy."

Route one was at any trainers disposal. Pokémon were ripe for the catching and the weather was perfect. The sun was blazing and the wind was cooling. What better day would there be to be a trainer? In fact what better day is there for a Pokémon? None of course, stop trying to guess.
Ahead there were many places of interest that might be of value to Cleon. There was a small pond, that many of the locals called Magikarp Pond (though more then just Magikarp resided there), which was one of the local watering holes. There were the Olden Trees, a place of (as the name suggests) old trees. Many bird Pokémon made nests here for generations. Then, if one wanted, there was Breezy Hallow. An open glen where the conditions for cloud watching were perfect and the Pokémon a plenty.
Where would Cleon like to go? Magikarp Pond, Olden Trees, or Breezy Hallow?
[The Poliwag was considered male for most the thread and is therefore male. Sorry for the trouble]

For a while, Cleon was cloaked in a comfortable silence broken only by the chirrups of bird Pokemon fluttering past, uninterested in his presence, the trickle of the stream as its waters rushed past, and the soft rustling of grass. Whether this movement was caused by Pokemon or the wind, Cleon could only guess. Nothing was making itself known for the time being, so Cleon decided that he’d leave whatever it may be alone. Besides -- he really didn’t feel like prodding through the grasses in search of an unwilling target. That just seemed rather rude. A contented smile resting on his face, the teen walked along the stream for a ways, simply enjoying the afternoon.
Glancing around him, Cleon saw a patch to trees in the near distance, poking their heads up above the tall grasses. Perhaps that would be a good place for his Zubat guide to find a place to rest? He looked down at his temporary traveling companion and nodded to himself. She would probably appreciate being away from humans for a while. Plus, a change of scenery would be nice. However much Cleon enjoyed the peaceful stream, he would love to explore some more.
Leaving the stream behind, pushing his way through the grass, Cleon made his way to the Olden Trees, eager to see what this new area would present.

A Taillow was perched on a low hanging branch a tree, and saw the Trainer pass with curiosity. It wasn't often a Trainer chose to pass the Olden Trees. Taillow was intrigued, and she fluttered closer. This particular Taillow was rather experienced, having been in the wild for a few years now, and she didn't want to get too close to the Trainer in case he wanted to battle her. She cautiously placed herself in his line of sight, but close enough to the trees to get away if need be. ::taillow::

After walking around in the sun for quite some time, entering the shade of the ancient trees was a delight for the shoddily-dressed young man. It was not uncomfortably hot outside, but the autumn sun was still overbearing, and being parted from its direct gaze was refreshing. Eyes taking a moment to get used to the dimmer lighting, Cleon blinked a few times before he could properly take in the scenery. A grove of trees, older than he'd ever seen before. Through the branches, he could see flickers of movement, hear small peeps. He wasn't alone, then.
His thought was confirmed when he noticed the Taillow watching him, carefully, from a safe distance. He waved a greeting at the small bird-Pokemon, then headed over to a low hanging branch at the edge of the grove. He lifted the arm bearing the female Zubat and offered her the new perch. "You think you'll be good here to rest up until you're better?" he asked her. "I'm sure you're getting tired of hanging around with me, huh?"
Cleon had enjoyed the small, intelligent Zubat's company, though he was concerned that she was tiring of her role as guide. She hadn't spoken much since his capture of the Poliwag; maybe she was not pleased with him for it? What did Pokemon think about being battled, then captured? Cleon shook the thought from his mind, then looked over at the Taillow again, curious as to what the bird was thinking of him.

[[Your Zubat also should've gained a level from that battle. ^^]]
Happy to be relieved of clinging to a sweaty human that made her shake back and forth with each step, the Zubat perched comfortably on one of the tree branches. Settling down with the surrounding apricot colored leaves as a blanket, she gave the male a gentle smile. It felt good to relax up here, and she knew many of her kind lived in the area around here, so she would be quite safe.
<Ah, yes. I'll be fine here. If you're looking for the nearest way out of here, I'd suggest continuing down here until you reach the smallest trees in the forest.> She explained, only perking up when she sensed the presence of another. She continued, but a bit more slowly now, trying to detect where the sounds were coming from. <Humans planted those trees, you see.> She finished, assuming that he'd understand.
<Ah. You're a human, huh? I think coming down here makes you suspicious.> The Taillow cawed from the safety of the trees, only walking out to the very tip of the branch she was on. Her weight made the flimsy branch bob up and down, but she had a very strong grip on it with her sharp talons.

”Thanks a lot for your help, Zubat. I’ll probably hang around here for the rest of the day, but I’ll remember that for tomorrow.” Cleon raised a hand and patted her on the head, rubbing her between the large ears. He felt that he could do that without earning a bite in response, after helping her to a safe perch. Grinning, he removed his hand before she could decide whether or not he deserved a bite for his actions.
Accusative peeps drew Cleon’s attention away from his former guide, and he found himself looking up at the Taillow. She had come closer, silly little thing. Seems that she hadn’t seen many people around. Hopefully he’d give her a good impression. Or at least have a bit of fun with the bundle of feathers.
Folding his arms across his chest, the teen examined the bird Pokemon, his forehead creased in thought. ”I think you watching me is mighty suspicious,” he said to her after a moment of mock-serious analysis. ”Can I help you with something?”

The Taillow ruffled her feathers in annoyance at the male's witty comeback, and as she pretended to preen the feathers under her wings, she struggled to come up with a retort. Shoot, she needed more practice at these word games, didn't she? Finishing her clean-up act, she gave a birdie smile as she let these lovely words slip out of her beak.
<I was just noticing you noticing me, because you're awfully suspicious. So much that...you need to be watched.> She raised a thoughtful blue wing to the tip of her beak, rubbing it gently as she thought over her own words. No, she didn't like the way she worded it. It could use some work.
<You can help me by being suspicious elsewhere.> She continued, wondering whether he would actually listen to her or not. Though she wasn't the first to jump to using force, she would if she needed to get her point across.

Cleon didn't know enough about birds to realize that preening indicated embarrassment, though he could tell by the prolonged silence that he had stumped the Pokemon. His stern expression broke into a grin as the Taillow considered her response. As she finally peeped what she seemed to hope was a witty retort, Cleon's hand reached for the Pokeballs clipped to his belt. Would this be a good time for a battle? It seemed like it would be, to him. And a small, flitty bird would be a great target for his new Poliwag.
In any case, battle or not, Cleon did not feel like moving his business elsewhere. This grove was not just hers, after all, and he'd love to explore it as much as he could. He'd rather do so without the risk of a Taillow stalking him, then divebombing him suddenly when he made a move she did not approve of. Cleon figured that she'd be the sort of Pokemon who would do such a thing.
"I do think I'll be sticking around here for a while, I'm afraid. If that's a problem, maybe we could fight it out? See if I'm worthy of entering your domain?" A fine way to phrase it, he decided, not wanting to outright attack the bird on his own. That just didn't seem proper, after all.
Attempting to do so impressively, Cleon tried to unclip his Poliwag's Pokeball and throw it in one swift movement. His inexperience in the matter unfortunately prevented him from doing this; the red and white sphere slipped from his grip and flopped on the ground between his feet, releasing the small blue water Pokemon. Poliwag blinked, looked around, then flopped on the ground, still exhausted from his last fight. Well, this certainly was looking good.

Tailow sniffed dismissively, flapping her wings to show both her displeasure and her arrogance. >If you insist.< She blinked, before hopping from her tree branch and soaring down to land on an old log. >I must warn you though. I've never lost in a fight,< she bragged, staring down at Cleon. >Can you say the same, human?< She preened again, but never took her gaze off the human or his tadpole. When he fumbled with the Pokeball, the Tailow hooted, the bird equivalent to a chuckle. >You can't even send out your Pokemon properly. Hoohoo! The arrogance! Hoohoo!< The strange, slightly arrogant laugh rang out again, and Tailow looked at Cleon. >I shall let you have the first attack. Out of courtesy, of course. Arceus knows you need every advantage you can get! Hoohoo!< ::tailow:: Tailow challenges you!

Although being given the first move was slightly embarrassing, Cleon did not deny that the Taillow was right: assistance in winning the fight may be necessary. This was particularly the case right now. Looking at Poliwag, he realized just how tired the tadpole Pokemon was. "Uh... thanks, one second," he said, slinging his backpack over his shoulder and rummaging around for a Potion. His untouched Pokedex slipped out of the bag and landed on the ground. For the time being, he ignored it, instead grabbing a potion and spraying his Poliwag with it.
"That better, Target?" he asked his Pokemon, naming him on the spot. Target was unresponsive aside from a thankful bubble. He did, however, perk up at the word "target," which he recognized from the earlier encounter.
<Target? Okay!> Eager to please his new trainer, yet unable to understand his words, the Poliwag jumped up and shot a blast of bubbles right at the Taillow. He had, after all, been able to understand her words, at least.
Quickly, hoping that Poliwag would eventually learn to associate his attack with the word, Cleon shouted out his command as he saw the stream of bubbles headed towards the Taillow. "Use Bubble!" The Taillow was bound to find this hilarious, too. At least he seemed to be amusing her with his ineptitude. ::poliwag:: Poliwag uses Bubble!

Taillow laughed at the Poliwag as it blew bubbles out at her. >Hoohoo! Hoohoo! Hoo-huh?!< The Taillow spluttered and choked as the bubbles went into her eyes and open beak. Coughing and glaring at the Poliwag, she prepared to unleash her own fighting skills. >Alright then. You asked for it, boy! I'm going to beat your tadpole up so badly, his own mother won't recognize him! Hoohoo! Hoohoo!< That said, Taillow dived, soaring from her tree branch, straight at the tadpole. ::taillow:: Taillow used Peck.
