Practically skipping, Cleon made his way down the path that soon became Route One. A large smile was plastered across his tanned face, a smile that had only grown since departing from the Ranger Station earlier that day. It seemed as though he had just won the lottery, though had that been the case he would have been wearing much more fitting clothing. As it was, most people would only give him a second glance to scowl at the state of his far-too-large-and-ragged jeans and dirt scuffed t-shirt. A third glance may, however, be necessary for yet another reason: clinging to the loose fabric of Cleon’s shirt was a Zubat, slightly small for its species, bouncing against the thin lad’s chest with every happy step.
For at least the twentieth time since leaving the Station, Cleon raised a hand and placed it gently underneath the Zubat’s upside-down head. Prometheus snuggled against the offered hand and gave a soft squeaking noise, clearly voicing his pleasure at this new perch that encouraged snuggling. “How were you ever wild?” Cleon asked the Pokemon, who continued nuzzling up against his new trainer.
He made his way to the edge of a vast field, with only a thin path indicating that this was the “right” way. Where this way was, he hadn’t the foggiest. But he had been told that this was part of the adventure, and honestly? Cleon didn’t really care where he was headed. Dark brown eyes swept across the scene in front of him. Far away, he could see the shadows of what seemed to be people roaming about through the grasses, but he couldn’t tell for certain. He assumed they were other trainers, just starting out like he himself had. Or experts, lying in wait for newbies to torment. Ah, well. That was part of the fun, too?
Cleon took a step towards the trail, but stopped. Trails were for people with places to go in a hurry. He was in no hurry. He was here for the journey. Getting lost? Part of the adventure. Rubbing Prometheus’s soft blue fur one more time, he pushed his way into the thick grass and ventured off away from the trail.

"Zu-zu!" A soft cry came out from the bushes as they began to rustle. There was obviously something within it ready to make a beeline out of there, but it appeared tangled up within the branches. It was a bright blue blob, much resembling the one in Cleon's hands, except it had much shorter fangs. The Zubat had somehow managed to get herself lodged in here after fighting a battle against a trainer.
There were bruises all over her body, as if it had been a rather tough one to fight. She hissed as she stretched a wing forward, attempting to unhinge her other wing from the surrounding branches. She squeaked in protest as the sharp needles scratched against her body, but she desperately wanted to escape.
<Curse my luck.> She grumbled, now resorting to using her teeth in an effort to chew her way through the flimsy branches. It had a nasty sour taste to it that she instantly had to lift her head away from in utter disgust. Ok, Plan B certainly didn't work.

Ears twitching, the Zubat clinging to Cleon’s chest stiffened suddenly. Cleon stopped moving and looked down at his companion curiously. He watched the critter’s ears swivel about before focusing in one direction, and strained his own to see if they could hear what was distracting Prometheus. Hearing nothing but slight rustling, he continued to watch his Zubat, who released his grip and started flapping around his trainer.
<<Noise noise noise,>> Prometheus squeaked, fluttering about Cleon’s head. <<I go see, kay?>> Without waiting for approval, he flew off a few yards and stared circling the air above a particular patch of grasses. <<Here, Cleon-friend, here. It‘s stuck-stuck.>>
Grinning slightly at the bat’s clear pleasure at being able to “assist” his trainer somehow, Cleon headed towards his ecstatic friend. “What’s stuck, ‘Theus?” he asked, pushing his way through the long, thick grass.

Upon seeing a strange, alien human poke his head a bit too close into the bush, the female Zubat let out a fearful screech. Thrashing about even more wildly in an attempt to frighten away the human, she ended up scratching up her wing even more in the process. In fact, it looked like it was becoming a tad looser in all of that movement. She bucked her body up and down like an angry bull, trying desperately to get free before she was forced to fight against another dang human.
<B-back off!> She cried, panting from that sudden adrenaline rush. That was about a weeks amount of exercise for her, and she was feeling a bit more than drained. With a low rumble in her throat meant as a growl, she felt powerless to do anything else except to try and scare the kid off.

Finally close enough to make out the female Zubat's squeaks, Cleon looked down and easily saw a familiar tangled up mass of blue wings and white fangs. "Hey, it's alright," he said, slowing down his approach. He would rather not have the thing faint due to overexerting itself, after all. Cleon knelt down, slowly, ignoring the Zubat's threats, until he was just next to the writhing creature. "I can get you out of here, don't worry. Just calm down a bit." He tentatively reached over,.
Prometheus, meanwhile, was zipping about in circles overhead, dipping up and down, firing off little clicking noises in order to "see" what was going on. <<Don't worry don't worry don't worry,>> he clicked. Cleon grinned slightly, despite the situation, at the difference in the Zubats' demeanors.

He Zubat squeaked partailly in surprise, partially in terror. She squiremed still, seeing the hand reach toward her. She didn't want that THING touching her. She had too much experience with humans. They think they can just swoop down and take you or your friends wherever they want, whenever they want. And take you all around the world... Her thoughts trailed off. Now that she though about it, to that Zubat, it sounded kinda nice.
Travel the world, all in the confines of that small, dark space that most traveled in. What was it? A pokeball? Something like that. Either way, she slowed her frantic flapping and hoped that the human wouldn't hurt her. If he did, she would be sure to hurt him back.

Ignoring the bundle of fur and wings flittering about his head, still squeaking what he must have assumed was reassuring remakrs, Cleon waited for the stuck Zubat to calm down before making any further movements. He had been nibbled affectionately by Prometheus already, and even that was enough to put him on edge; being attacked by those fangs was not on Cleon's to-do list.
As the female Zubat ceased her frantic struggling, Cleon smiled down at her. "Nothing to worry about, I'll get you out of there," he said as soothingly as he could manage, keeping his voice low and quiet. Shifting both knees, he made certain that he was balanced before reaching out with both hands. He moved slowly, but his movements were anything but sneaky; Cleon wanted to be certain that the Zubat could see -- or at least sense with her echolocation -- every movement he made.
Trying his best to not just grab at the Zubat directly, Cleon tugged at the tendrils of grasses that were keeping the critter locked in place. He winced as he felt the blades snap, and he hoped that the jolt would not send the bat into another panic. "Almost there," he murmured, now gently tugging at the grasses that had wrapped around the Zubat's wings.

The Zubat, finally sensing what the trainer was doing, calmed down as he reached towards her. She stayed as still as she could, trying to tell what he was doing.
As the blades snapped, she squeaked once but calmed down again. Best not to get him mad. The female Zubat pulled once before stopping. That did nothing to help. She skunk closer to the ground, thinking that it might do the opposite of what she just did.
She didn't know what exactly she would do when she got free, she had to thank the trainer in some way, but she could handle that later. It wasn't time for that yet.

Seeing that the Zubat was not planning on sinking her fangs into his flesh, Cleon relaxed, and his movements sped up slightly so as to free the creature as quickly as possible. Her wriggling had done nothing but further entangle her in the grass, so he had quite a job ahead of him. Still, it did not take long for his human hands to untie the Zubat from her prison, and in less than a minute he was removing the last bit of twine-like grass from her battered little body.
"There you go," Cleon said, letting the Zubat sit on his palms while she sorted herself out. "You good to go?" He looked at her, wondering if she could see his concern for her condition. He'd never really wondered about a Zubat's senses before now.
Meanwhile, a totally senseless Prometheus was perching on Cleon's shoulder, repeating <<There you go, there you go, there you go,>> gleefully, as though he had been the other Zubat's savior.

The female looked at her fellow Zubat with a questioning tilt of her head, as if not understanding his strange quirks. Perhaps being with this human had tainted his intelligence? Being dependent on someone else could very easily do that to someone, so she couldn't erase the possibility. She slowly got out of the restraints of the bush, slipping one delicate wing out and then the other. She slowly plopped down onto the ground, still a bit weak to fly away to her freedom yet, but that was fine.
<I'm sorry that I have nothing on hand to repay you...and I'm rather weak to battle you, since I know humans like to train.> She sighed, thinking about her options thus far. She knew the route pretty well, so maybe if the human needed some kind of guide?
<I could stay with you for a bit. I know the area, so I could help you.> She offered, at least generally knowing the area. She didn't have any eyes, so describing things could be an issue.

Seeing the female Zubat's ears following Prometheus's movements, Cleon laughed. "I'm really sorry about him," he said, holding up a hand and watching 'Theus nearly fly into it, then swerve aside at the last moment. He had no idea that she was doubting his intelligence, however, and thus made no effort to save any reputation the captive Zubat might still have amongst his wild kin. "He's just excited to be exploring somewhere new. I think."
<<New, new, new, new!>>
Cleon shook his head at his partner's boundless energy, then turned his attention back to the more intelligent Zubat now resting on the ground. He listened to her offer, examining her all the while. She really wasn't in any condition to fight, nor did Cleon really feel the desire to knock out a Pokémon he'd just assisted. A guide, however, was not really necessary. Wandering for the sake of wandering would be perfectly fine in his book.
"I am new to the area," Cleon admitted after a while. "Me and Prometheus just met up earlier today, and went right here. I don't think we need a guide, since I'm happy exploring, but you're free to hang out with us and get some rest for a while, maybe give us a few pointers as to where some Pokémon around here live?" He paused for a moment, not certain if she would particularly enjoy 'selling out' her fellow wild Pokémon. "Or just locations that you like," he said after a second's thought. Cleon held out his arm, providing a perch for the bat, should she wish to take the offer and tag along with them.

The trainer insisted that he did not need a guide, but with a Zubat as strange as his own for a companion, she seriously doubted this. How were they going to get anywhere if that excitable male kept acting as he was? Still, she was not quite offended by the refusal, simply nodding to show she'd understood his words. Oh dear, it really was going to be hard to fly anywhere for long periods of time with these bruises. Still, she'd have to manage, wouldn't she? Flexing her wings experimentally and giving a slight wince, she managed to lift herself into the air with slightly shaky movements.
But then the trainer offered her to join their company for a while, until she was rested. She glanced - if bats could really glance - at him in surprise, then at Prometheus. Well... the other bat's company was slightly questionable, but at least she wouldn't have to fly so much. <Alright,> she agreed, flapping over to take the proffered perch on his arm.
And despite what they said about not needing a guide, she'd most definitely be there to help if they got lost. <Well... quite a lot of Pokémon hang around the stream during the day,> she said evasively, not wanting to mention anything too specific. She wanted to repay him, but she was careful about mentioning individuals. None of them wanted to be sold out, she was sure. <And there's a nice spot over that way.> She gestured with her wing in the general direction she was indicating.

Prometheus decided that he, too, would like a perch, and smacked into Cleon quite unceremoniously to regain a grip on his t-shirt. Now weighed down with two bats, the teenager was glad that he hadn’t run into anything even larger, for odds are that he’d have offered them a ride, too. As it was, even the thin, relatively weak lad was able to stand and move easily with the two bats hanging from him. Still, he wished that his own Zubat had chosen to cling to his other arm in an effort to make balance. Ah, well. He’d need a more intelligent -- or at least more observant -- companion for that sort of thinking. With his free arm, he gave ‘Theus a pat on the head.
Now on his feet, Cleon nodded with great enthusiasm. “Then that way it is!” A stream sounded pleasant enough. Plus, he could stick around it to make his camp in the evening; having a fresh water source nearby would be great. Following the indicated direction, he set off, grinning, with two Zubats hanging from his torso. He really wished his family, or anyone, could see him in this state.

As Theus clung to the human's shirt, on the same side as well, the female Zubat couldn't help but twitch her ears in annoyance. It wasn't something the other male would be able to see though, thank goodness. She bit her lip to hold in her complaints, despite her need to voice them, but it probably would have been a wasted effort. The male Zubat appeared to be quite the babbling idiot anyways.
<There. I can hear something.> She voiced as the sound of the stream became clearer than before. That wasn't what she was referring to though, as she had picked up on some kind of movement going on further down in that direction. Sure enough, some bubbles began to make their way towards the trainer and the zubats. One even managed to pop right on her nose, making her recoil from the sudden cold.
Right in the middle of the stream, a small Poliwag was standing right in the center of the shallow end, blowing bubbles in a serious manner. Total concentration as it tried to hit a target that was several feet away, however the swarm of bubbles were too light to even reach his target.

Prometheus could not see, nor would he particularly be bothered if he could, the female Zubat’s annoyance. Cleon, however, could, and found it quite hilarious. Still, he didn’t want to provoke a squabble between the two, and decided that it would be best to situate his babbling idiot of a companion to the other side of his body. The displaced Zubat didn’t mind its new position under his armpit, and snuggled up in the warm spot.
Nearing the stream, Cleon took the other Zubat’s word for it that something was ahead, though at the sight of the bubbles he nodded and crept forward. Seeing the Poliwag’s concentration, he grinned. Looked like he might get to try out the Pokemon Trainer stuff today, after all, and with a willing participant. ”Working on your bubble?” Cleon asked the creature. ”It might be easier if you had a living target,” he continued, poking Prometheus in the side.

The Poliwag turned towards the trainer neared the stream, not all that sure how to react to him. He narrowed his eyes in concentration, trying hard to understand this foreign human language of his. It was only something he heard whenever the humans came walking by, but he hardly had the experience with them to make an effort to understand them. He just kind of gave off an uncertain, vacant stare at the trio. Really not sure how to react, here.
<Ah, so you're one of the few that can't understand.> The female Zubat replied once she took in the brief pause in silence. After picking up on the Poliwag's scent, she realized that she was somewhat familiar with him. They had talked before, but not much more than that. <He asked for a battle...so you can, ya know, train?> She translated, feeling a bit nervous talking for the trainer. The Poliwag seemed to perk up at the translation though, and eagerly nodded his head.
<Sure. Perfect! I'll get you now!> The Poliwag cried, releasing a swarm of bubbles at all three of the Pokemon. It appeared that he wasn't all that sure of what was asked of him just yet, but at least the bubbles weren't that painful. There was simply a lot of them, easily able to slow down anything that got caught in them.

Just preparing to deliver some thanks to his small translator, Cleon was met with a wall of bubbles, many of which floating directly into his open mouth. He stumbled back, coughing. Prometheus, too, was hit, though most of the bubbles had been directed at his perch. Still, it was enough to make him take flight.
“Thanks for the translation,” Cleon said, wiping the water off of his face with his sleeve, “but I don’t think this little one quite got it.” Totally pumped and ready for his first battle, Cleon jumped backwards -- one arm was wrapped around the female Zubat to keep her steady -- to get out of the Poliwag’s range. “Alright, ‘Theus, confuse him! Supersonic!” he called out, deciding that pointing dramatically would add to the excitement of the moment.
Prometheus, still a bit distracted from the bubbles, darted upwards. He fired some rapid (even for him) squeaks at the Poliwag in a Supersonic attack.
Prometheus used Supersonic.

As the rapid fire squeaks hit the Poliwag, it stumbled backwards in a sudden state of confusion. The Poliwag mumbled out some funny mumbo jumbo as it wobbled back and forth like a rocking chair, not quite sure what was what and where was where. Everything was somehow distorted, and he couldn't think normally. It was as if he was only thinking in fragments, not quite getting the whole picture.
Thinking that he was sending out more bubbles at his opponents, he merely sprayed out a completely harmless Water Sport out over the entire area. The female Zubat shuddered at the cold water, but was otherwise unphased, like everyone else should be. It was quite annoying though, feeling the effects of a battle that she wasn't even involved in.

Good job, 'Theus!" Cleon called out to his winged friend. So far, so good. The splash of cool water on his skin was more refreshing than anything else in the heat of the battle; Cleon barely noticed it, and was more focused on keeping his Zubat interested in the battle. Praise should do the trick, and the hyper little Prometheus deserved it for actually listening to him in his first fight. "Go for a Zen Headbutt, now, you got this!"
Sprinkling droplets of water everywhere as his wings fluttered about, Prometheus squeaked his wordless assent to his trainer. He flew back a bit, to gain room, then sped forward as fast as he could to ram into the confused little Poliwag. Cleon bit his lip, hoping that the Zubat wouldn't just crash right into the ground. And wouldn't hitting the Poliwag hurt him just as much? Ah, well. Theus seemed willing enough to give it a shot, and the Poliwag hopefully wouldn't gain its senses and jump out of the way.
Prometheus used Zen Headbutt.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Headache. Medic! He needed a medic! Wait, what was a medic? He heard that phrase before, but couldn't put a definition to the word. Taking a dizzy step forward, the Poliwag made a quick stumble to the ground, slipping on his own wet body oil. Squeaking from the pain, he slowly got back up on his feet; unfocused eyes gazing at the sky above him. What does this mean? It was so bright, so vivid. So intense.
<Owchies!> The Poliwag cried out when the Zen Headbutt sent him tumbling back into the river, giving him a cool dose of water. As the refreshing stream wrapped it's motherly self around him, his senses slowly came back to him. Looking around him in a daze, he began to recollect why he was here and what was happening.
