"Where will I wander and wonder Nobody knows But wherever I'm going I'll go, in search of a rose"<<Sprites of the two gypsy merchants>> Bosha & Donka Groves
A colorful gypsy wagon moves through the route, drawn by two fierce looking Ponyta. As it stops, two gypsies jump off to meet you. The first introduces herself as Bosha Groves, a fair blond lady in her forties, dressed in a vividly colorful robe. "Would you be interested in some of our wares?" She asks. The second, her husband, grins happily along. He is strong muscled and large, with a bright red bandanna bound over his head. He is a bit older than his wife, but carries the same pleasant smile. "Best prices, fresh wares." He adds. ItemsWhite Flute?? PD Blue Flute?? PD Energypowder?? PD Energy Root?? PD Pokemon::ponyta:: Ponytalvl 5 ?? PD ::budew:: Budewlvl 5 ?? PD (Shop inventory is just an example)"Whatever the will of the weather Whether it shines or snows 'Cause wherever I'm going I'll go, in search of a rose" ---------------------------- So, the idea is to have a traveling shop. Every month or so, the gypsies move a route up or down the journey, offering perhaps a few different items and pokemon.
The main idea is to have an alternative to the Harris Megamall, as well as a new oppertunity to rp. This could be done in the way of a normal shop, where people can join to order their items, or maybe the gypsies could enter a thread as the Move Tutor does; on request.
I personally wouldn't mind playing Silva's parents, but any staff member is also welcome to do it. Whichever works best.

Though this isn't a bad idea, I don't like it. I don't see it being used all that much, apart from buying the pokemon, and really Harris Megamall is enough for that. It is much eaier to have all purchases concentrated in a single area instead of having it move around. Besides, most members are in route 1-2. Having them move up and down the routes will be useless unless they are at those target areas.
It would have been an excellent idea if we did not have the Megamall, but as we do, I don't see why we'd implement this. We really don't need another place to buy stuff.

That excuse is growing SO old.
Besides, no one knows it IC, and it doesn't affect anyone, IC or OOC. It's just a name. Live with it. It doesn't give any reason for another place to purchase things.

It doesn't give any reason for another place to purchase things. Okay, then what about this excuse: Realism. How realistic is it that in a world like this, there is only one mall, one shop to buy all your items? Also, the idea of the gypsies is that they offer a different selection of goods that Harris doesn't provide. Alternative medicine and pokeflutes. And maybe some more unusual pokemon? Anyone else have any opinions? I'd love to hear, positive and negative.

If you can recall, we used to have shops in every city. It is much simper and easier to have them all in one building. Besides, if you are going for realism, then how realistic is it that in a rather modern setting, there is a caravan going around? It is such an 'old' concept that doesn't sound any more realistic.
Yes, it offers more opportunities to buy stuff, but keep in mind that every single item CAN be bought in the megamall, and I much prefer having the pokemon limited. This isn't a free ride, and making all sorts of pokemon available makes it much less interesting. We have the pound for newbies, and a shop selection that changes the moment someone buys stuff, which is actually pretty common. We don't need someone selling pokemon, because if you want realism, it would make much more sense if the caravan was going around poaching pokemon and then selling them back. They are competing against a mall that managed to send all the smaller shops into bankruptcy. Or they at least bought the small shops out.
We finally got all the shops in one board, because it makes it so much easier for us. All purchases are concentrated in the 'other area' because everyone can access them.
You are searching for realism in a world that isn't realistic at all. You have to think about the OOC implications as well as the IC ones. OOCly, it creates more work, and it makes you sound self-centered. Unless there is an overwhelming appeal for this suggestion, my view on it is clear.

Agreed. Which is why we can make it an announcement in all threads, where people request the shop to appear in their threads. I'd at least wait 1 page, since some routes its like bleh and you don't want to be there the whole time.
I know this comment isn't going anywhere, but this doesn't help your defense. Its meant to be a secret that the Megamall is owned by SYL. Not Team Death. Anyways, basically what Ari says about that.
Harris Megamall has the option to order certain items not in stock, but they're at a higher price. Maybe it can be like, special discount items. A choice of 2 or 3. It would be a good way to sell fishing rods.
Maybe a swarm Pokemon before it swarms. That would be interesting.
They would still be limited. Its not as if they'd have any rare Pokemon. Whatever Pokemon they have in stock would be a one of a kind, individual, with stats much like the ones in the Pokemon Pound. Levels vary with routes, of course.
The idea sounds like fun. They need to have an actual roleplay before they can purchase something. Maybe sing or listen to a story. I know maybe you have doubts because of the Pokemon acvhievements, but it wouldn't count towards them if they aren't caught. Typecasting, maybe. But its still something they earned.
Express what you don't like about this idea again. That or, more people throw in their ideas. If it isn't used, I'll have a TD mission where someone kills them off. Fun times. No?

Ari. Your reply really doesn't help to be honest. I think that when you decide against something you stick to being against it. No matter what. Once you've stuck to something you will stick to it. But half the time people don't want to post because they are too scared to stick up to you. Well here I am sticking up. I think this is a good idea and I want this. Big whoop if the shops didn't work. Maybe this would work. It's different. WHY DON'T YOU GIVE IT A CHANCE? It's roleplay. It's a good idea. I just don't think you want to give it a chance.

If it isn't used, I'll have a TD mission where someone kills them off. Fun times. No? Need I remind you they're Silva's parents? xD Do you want to traumatize the *innocent* boy?! But in all seriousness, Spirit has some valid points. Ofcourse we can make it that they stay in route 1, electric city and route 2? I also really like the idea that Spirit suggested with them needing to roleplay to 'earn' the right to buy. Like befriend them first. Reminds me of the Move Tutor, which at first I was very skeptic about (bringing him a pokemon?) but when I tried it out, was really fun. I think the advantage of having NPC's like these gypsies, the NPC trainers or the move tutor is that you get a connection with the world. Instead of there just being members and mods (wild pokemon). As stated before, I really wouldn't mind playing the Groves gypsies, and putting a lot of time and effort into this. I'm not sure if it is mod business, but this is just a suggestion.

Noted, Podz. and wtf is that giant eye tentacle thing?» Having them stay only in the first two routes also wouldn't be fair to those that did manage to climb their way up. And i'm not just saying because Blaze made it to route three, because I can see that argument coming a mile away. Some members are at Route 2 already, and it's only a matter of time before they also graduate onto the next area. Go Seamus We're waiting! It also gives more of an incentive to move on, rather than camp in route one. » A moving shop isn't the most convenient thing to set up, thread-wise. We'd either have to move the thread or make a new one every time. Keep that in mind. » Lol wouldn't you be furious if you buy a pokemon, and then two days later it's a swarm? Though I'm nor opposed to this. It would be to take a gamble. Buy the pokemon, or simply hope it's the next swarm. If it's not and the shop leaves, too bad for you. » I am extremely against having Silva's parents running the caravan. There might be conflict because of what might happen to them, what we might do to them, and all that stuff. Characters don't last forever. NPCs do. Also proprietary trouble if you ever decide you hated our guts and wanted us to take them down. Or if you just decide to leave the site. Or anything else that might happen. I'm not saying you will, but it is a possibility. It is just much more simple if it is a NPC that has no connection to any existing characters. If you don't mind me completely warping the idea, I do like the sound of poachers moving around, instead of gypsies. Or, heck, the Hunter could probably fill in. He's a pre-made character and he could just be travelling around with some extra items and stuff. Or the magikarp salesman? You know you all love the magikarp salesman. Gosh plz can it be the magikarp salesman, trying to sell you a magikarp instead of whatever you want to be buying? Stockwise, maybe they could have some rare or uncommon pokemon in the routes (only one in stock, of course) and that would be a way for people to get to those rares. Or even common pokemon. There are just so many in route one, it's hard to get what you might be looking for. I personally am not too much of a fan of this, but if it gets people moving forward, because they finally got the X pokemon they wanted... Or the swarm pokemon before they come through. Or random pokemon from other routes and stuff. And again, magikarp salesman. You'd have to run circles around him and avoid the magikarp he is trying to sell to you for like 50k. Because they are worth so much It would be someone fun to interact with.

* Magikarp Salesman Want a Magikarp? This guy happens to be a triplet, and looks exactly like the drug dealer and the item/Pokemon seller. Rp with him to see which brother you got.
* Drug Dealers Flutes? Shrooms? Flutes? They sell it cheaper than what Harris mall has.
* Route Item/Pokemon Seller - Includes Swarm Pokemon, which might also be a trap. Either its something already on the route that , or something EVERYONE will find. These Pokemon vary in price.
Just some thoughts, to kind of exploit that they HAVE to roleplay with each of the brothers. The merchandise can be posted somewhere, and people have to request in OOC for the traveling merchants. Whichever one comes, comes though. If you don't get the one you want the first time, the next one HAS to be different.
Otherwise I am completely in agreement with Ari.

What if you had it as an option in the farther journey threads(route 4+), offering rare pokemon? It gives people an incentive, doesn't it?

...awww but then I'll never get to use them. People are mostly going to be on the first two routes. The current plans to move them out are: level restrictions on the routes, prizes from gyms in the next city, new Pokemon to catch, and the achievements. Why not give them a chance to encounter some of these NPCs anywhere? heck. they don't even have to ask for them.
Just throw them in there, bros.

We could have them as mod NPCs. Maybe tell them which brother is currently available, and then let the mods maybe have some fun with them.
If we have them out in the routes (and even if we dont) we have to consolidate all the 'info' boards into one thread.
-pokemon rarity -npc trainer -move tutor -(travelling salesman)
With mods, it's a bit easier to handle as we don't have to have that extra post/thread, and it gives them more toys to play with. Also it makes it a real 'traveling' shop, as you can't really control whether or not you're gonna meet the salesman.
and then in the towns, we could also at least put pokemon + trainers together, and then have gym and contests separate. But it's taking up a lot of space. There is an option to move posts instead of topics, which can be used.

I'd like them as random encounters controlled by mods! Would be a nice change of pace from encountering wild pokemon / trainers. :'D Especially if we had lulzy stuff like 'drug dealers' and magikarp salesman~ or sunkern salesman since this is cheyenne?. xD I also think npcs related to characters aren't fail. I mean, if Silva ever met his parents i'm pretty sure they'd give him a discount...unless they're total jerks who'd be like: "OH HAI THAR! WE HAVENT SEEN YOU IN MONTHS. HOW ARE YOU? OH YOU WANT SOME STUFF FOR A DISCOUNT? LOLNO. FULL PRICE FOR YOU SON~" :x I like the concept as a whole though
