So here's an idea that I've suggested on numerous forums. I'm gonna cut right to the chase and discuss my idea right here and now. Please feel free to chip in anything you can come up with that should be mentioned.
So on another forum I used to be on I pitched the Idea of having a yearly member Award Ceremony/Show made by the staff being for member and staff alike. You could kinda see this as just a big Member of the Year idea but it's more then that I tell you just hear me out before you make judgement.
Now there would be a few stages to this process.
1. Members and Mods Make suggestions on categories: When I say this I mean it could be a variation of things as far as RP characters, members performance, ect. So we would have both Member and mods decide on topics that we would later vote on such as Best RP Character, Best Tactician, Member of The Year, stuff like that. A thread will be made open to giving all members on site a chance to make suggestions. There will be like a time period on this thread to make any suggestions. In the end after a trial suggestion period expires the admins/mods will be given the authority to decide on which categories are finalized.
2. Let the Staff Pick the Nominees:Now this is pretty self explanatory. The only reason staff should have the say in the nominees is because If you were to vote for your best friend obviously you're gonna vote for your best friend when the ballet comes out. There will be no thread made, no notice whatsoever to the members. The staff will privately discuss the manner and then when the discussion reaches a close, the nominees for each topic will be announced.
3. Voting: Yet another job left in the hands of the staff but preferably for a task this important, I would say it be best for one or more of the admins to keep track of the votes. That admin is responsible for making a ballet with all of the categories and nominees for each category. This ballet will then be sent to every member on Cheyenne via PM all Function in which I believe only admins have. Each member will be responsible for send back a PM to that admin with their votes for every category on the ballet. The admin will keep a close watch on the tallies and after a set amount of time has passed, voting will be concluded.
4. Award Ceremony/Show And Rewards: Now this is where the most exciting part of this whole process will be. This can be done in one of two ways. Option A is that the Staff make a thread declaring the winners for each category and nothing more. Or Option B is to turn it into one epic, off the chain, out of control RP award show completely in character. The award show would act like any other RP where anyone can join. Either way the winners could be rewarded with good stuff like shards, TMs, Eggs, you know that stuff that everyone wants. I personally think that the entire site would benefit way more if we went with option B just purely for the excitement level that will build up. I know for a fact that people get PUMPED UP about member Award Shows like this.
Now my though on this is that the process for the awards could begin any time after September to allow plenty of time for everything to be done right. If timed out well enough, we would have the results by the end of the year. What a way to end the year off with a bang huh?
