He was finally off to get his first Pokémon after a year of just studying and watching them. Of course that where just the Pokémon within a thirty mile radius of his home. He was sure to seem many more exciting Pokémon now that he was on his journey. He had been walking for a well now in the clear weather. For it being winter he was glad that it was at least clear out rather then snowy or raining. Still he was bundled up so that he didn't catch a cold. He wore well fitting, yet not to tight dark blue jeans, two pairs of white socks and brown walking and hiking boots cover of his socks, but where under the legs of his jean. Of course he wasn't some matchy, matchy person so his light green short sleeve shirt was a nice counter for his dark pants. His brown jacket didn't completely match his boots either as it was a few shades lighter with a white stripe running down the right side on the front. Around her neck she had a Joltik themed scarf. The bug type was one of his favorite Pokémon despite it being and electric type as well as a bug type. He still thanks they are very cool.
Corbin was feeling pretty good as the lab finally came into view that crisp late morning. Even with that fact that he hadn't put in either of his contacts so his eyes were still one brown and one blue. Anyways tugging on the strap of his brown backpack he soon came to the door of the lab. Something his mother told him stuck out in his mind. 'Remember dear when you get to the lab, knock.' So with that in mind he stopped at the door lifting his left hand he knocked like he was told to by his mother. The knock had force in it, but it wasn't a banging or anything like that.
Taking a step back he looked around at the outside of the building. It seemed quiet large the professor here must do a lot of research. Oh how he wondered what type of Pokémon the lab had for new trainers like him.

Professor Winter heard a knock on the door and he quickly went to open it. He wasn't paying a lot of attention to where he was walking as he could not put down his book at all. It was simply too interesting, talking about the moment when Proserpina was taken by Pluto and Ceres lost her daughter. "Woah... The gods are so cool. They can just do whatever they wish and mess with human kind so easily." He said out loud. He was a bit curious on how Arceus ruled himself... Being the first divine pokemon discovered, there probably were more but he was the only one that Professor Winter knew about. He almost tripped but caught himself at the door handle. It made a loud thud and he quickly opened the door embarrassed. "Uh hi. I hope you didn't hear that..." He said, scratching his head nervously. He looked at Corbin and was wondering what brought this kid there. Of course it was for a pokemon, but he still wondered... Opened the door for you

Corbin had started to fiddle with his scarf as he looked around not really listening to what was going on inside the lab, but he had heard the loud thud. His right brow raised up for a moment as he wondered what that was and if who every it was or whatever it was, was alright. Yet when the blue haired man opened the door and spoke he was fully listening.
"Oh no sir I heard nothing." He said to the man who he could only guess was the professor or an assistant. Now yea he did fib when he said he didn't hear anything, and he know it wasn't a good thing to lay, but he didn't want this older man to be embressassed or what not. "Oh forgive me for my lack of manners. I am Corbin Cole and I am here to get my starter pokemon." He spoke calmly. He didn't enter as he wasn't invited to enter the man lab and he wasn't going to enter a place he wasn't invited. That was like barging into someone's home someone who was a stranger none the less. As he stood there he tugged on his scarf a little.

Professor Winter breathed a sigh of relief when the kid did not catch his embarrassing act. Maybe he was just lying to the Professor as he wanted a pokemon, but he would take it regardless. He wasn't one to question a kid's morals and way of life, he'd allow the kid to go on doing what he was doing to get what he wanted... If it worked for him so far in his life, well it should continue working. He also liked the temerity of the kid. He went straight to business asking for what he wanted. It was nice to hear a kid who was on top of his thing and knew and wanted exactly what he came for. "I like you kid... You have spunk." He said. He thought it was kind of cool... But he wasn't done with Corbin yet. He was ready to play a pretty epic game with him and he wanted to see how Corbin would do when he is faced with a problem. "I know that one thing about the lab is that you can choose your pokemon... But for today, I will not give you the choice and instead just put ten pokeballs on the table." He said. He wasn't entirely serious but he just wanted to see how the boy would react. "Only three of the pokeballs contain pokemon. If you get it, the pokemon is yours. If you miss, then sorry try again next year." It wasn't a serous test, as none of the pokeballs actually had pokemon in it. He just wanted to see how the kid would react. Gave you a test. Choose a pokeball [OOC: Don't worry you'll get the pokemon you came for in the lab. This is just RP]

ooc: Roleplays are always fun. ] Corbin was a lad that know lots of things. He wasn't some super genius or anything of the sort, but he know enough to think things through. Having no idea who this man was he didn't know if he liked him or not, but by his words it was clear that the man like him. Or at least his spunk. "Thank you sir." He replied calmly. Ok so it might make him seem over cocky or something, but he took the compliment and rolled with it. Corbin honestly could say he didn't expect to be given a test. He didn't study for one, of course it seemed like this test was more of a guessing game then anything else. "Alright sir." He said simply as he looked at the pokeballs on the table. "Ten pokeballs with three of them only having pokemon, give roughly a 1 and 2 chance or 30 percent. Then again..." He wasn't really mumbling just thinking out loud, but trailed off there at the end. "Are there any pokemon really in any of them?" He questioned as he looked away from the pokeballs back to the man. "I know I have no reason not to trust you that there are three of them with pokemon, but then again I have no reason to trust either. I don't even know who you are." He said his voice still calm, but he was being serious and taking the test seriously as well. He was asking questions and watching the man trying to see if he gives any sign as to which pokeball might not be empty.

Professor Winter liked the fact that he questioned everything that went on. He liked that Corbin didn't blindly jump into a test and fall right into a trap. That was a good trait for any pokemon trainer as one can never really know who they are supposed to trust at first sight. This kid probably knew some things about Team Death, or at least he had the mentality needed against a Team Death member. "I like you kid. You have spunk." He said although he was also a bit annoyed that the kid would be so dumb as to not trust him. "But I am the Professor. I was the one who invited you to this island. I am Professor Winter. I know you are smart for not trusting someone immediately but you also did not do your research if you asked who I am... You should know I am Professor Winter, you should know that I brought you here." He said again. He wanted to test the kid further. "Now I will take away one of the pokemon so you have a 2 out of 9 chance remaining." He said, trying to show the kid another lesson... When you piss off the wrong people you tend to suffer for it. And he was going to make this kid suffer... "Now choose." He said to Corbin. Again, none of the pokeballs actually had a pokemon in them, but Corbin did not need to know that. Takes away one of the "pokemon" pokeballs.

He should have known that, that was Professor Winters true enough, but really how was he to know he wasn't just some aid to the professor that worked in the lab, or a member of team death that got in and locked the professor in a closet. Ok so sure that one was highly unlikely, but come on it still could happen and he didn't want to make anyone upset. He just asked questions.
Listening to all the Professor had to as he also watched what he did. Paying close attention to what was going on was always a good thing. "Forgive me Professor I was raised not to trust someone is someone unless given a name to match to a face and I was unsure if you where the Professor here or an aid." He said giving the man a bow of his head as he apologized for his mistake.
It was as the man said he was going to take away one of the Pokemon that he looked back at the poke balls and watched him take one away. Being told to choose he started to think out loud again. "A two and nine chance meaning there are two Pokemon left..." He mumbled slightly there at the end before looking at the Professor and speaking. "I am not sure which poke ball on the table has a Pokemon inside, however I have made up my mind on which one I shall choice." He was fully looking at the professor now and well he though he would give it a try as he really had no clue at this guessing game. "I choose the one you took away." There he choose and gave it a shot. After all he claimed to have taken away one with a Pokemon in it and he did say he should know to trust him did he not? So he trusted that he wasn't lying.

Winters was thinking he was the intelligent one, playing such a trick on Corbin. He had rigged the poke'ball game, none of them had creatures in them, and he'd lied in order to do it but that didn't bother him. While thinking highly of himself, Corbin surprised him. Greatly. I choose the one you took away. Although it was the safest option, if you trusted Winters and believed he actually had taken away a poke'ball with a poke'mon in it. It was also outside of the box thinking and it made Winters smile. He leaned against the table where he'd placed the poke'ball he'd taken away. "You sure Corbin?" He asked, mostly so that he'd have a few seconds to subtly switch the poke'ball he'd taken away with one that actually contained a poke'mon. As far as he was concerned, the test was passed. No one needed to know that Winters had been trying to trick this kid. "Once you pick one.. that's it."
( <3 which starter poke'mon did you want for Corbin? you know... just curious xD )

ooc: I wanted a Joltik starter for Corbin.]
Was her sure? Well logically looking that things it made since to trust that the professor would lie to a new trainer. Who does that besides team death and jerks? From what Corbin had heard about Professor Winters he wasn't a jerk or a member of team death. So was he really sure? Well yes, no. Watching the professor lean forward on the table he was a bit unsure, but wouldn't second guess himself. Not this time he felt he was ready for the road a head. "Yes sir I am sure." He said calmly as he looked down at the pokeballs in front of him then back up towards the professor. Thinking to himself about how he hoped there was a Joltik in the pokeball he picked. Tugging a bit more at his scarf he was getting hot and his neck was becoming itchy so he took it off a bit. Made it looser if you prefer.

The ball popped open and from it was a bit of air, and nothingness. It was completely empty and after Corbin opened it, Professor Winter could not help but laugh. "And that is the first lesson in the real world kid. You will never be truly sure of anything. Nothing in life is clear and simple. You can trust no one, nothing is safe." He said laughing at the kid who had fell right into the trap. "But I was only kidding before, you did come here for a pokemon and a pokemon is what you will get. By the way, what pokemon do you want?" He asked Corbin before he went to the back to pick out the real pokeballs that contained real pokemon in them. "I'm sorry about that, it gets boring here... I like to have some fun sometimes." He said. He also made sure to pick up the starter kit for Corbin as he needed that to go alongside his pokemon. "I hope it wasn't too bad for you." He said with a smile. Goes to get you your actual pokemon

He fell in the trap, but quiet honestly he had no choice in that matter. If he wanted to get his starter he had to play the professor's game. It was quiet a mean one really, but what he was told did have truth to it. He simply couldn't trust anyone not to be lying. However the man didn't have to laugh at him, that was very rude even if he did get bored. It was very childish even or so his mother would have said if she had been here. However she isn't so whatever.
As the ball opened and nothing came out a frown came to his lips followed by a sigh. Great I have to wait another year. he thought to himself after taking the professor serious about what he said before. Then he cheered up as he was told that he was just kidding and all of that. "Oh I see, I understand professor." He said as he lowered his head to look at the floor.
Smiling he looked up when the professor said sorry. "I have had those moments no need to apologize professor." He said in a calm cheery voice. "Oh, please, I would like a Joltik if I may." He said getting excited as he said it.

"A Joltik? Ah those are new... I don't really know too much about them but we do have a spare for you." The Professor said as he went to get the pokemon for Corbin. He was done playing games with him and now just wanted to help out the poor fella before he blew up on him or something. He reached in and picked up a Joltik pokeball and in addition to that also picked up a starter kit before going back to Corbin and handing all of the items to him. "Here is your Joltik and your starter kit. I hope you learned a valuable lesson today, and I also hope you had fun because it is always good to have fun..." He said as he placed the items in Corbin's hands before walking back to his book. You get ::Joltik:: Joltik Level: 5 Attacks: String Shot. Leech Life. Spider Web. Thunder Wave. x 5 x 3 x1

Oh they where new? That is not only interesting, but cool as well. Of course he thought a lot of things where cool so yea. However having a pokemon that not a lot of other people have could be a good thing. He hoped it was anyways and as the professor left to get the pokeball and the starter kit he let out a sigh. As the professor handed him the stuff he put the starter pack in his backpack and held on to the Joltik. "Thank you Professor I will do my best to be a good trainer to Joltik." He said with a bow of his head. Seeing the man go back to his book he turned himself and walked out of the lab.
((Finished))
