Peacefully, Spirit pawed at the ground as Mawely sighed, stroking along her mane gently from his place perched on her back. Tuned into the sound of the birds chirping around them, she closed her eyes and lifted her head, scenting the air curiously. For a moment she gnawed at the grass beneath her, feeling the life energy of the plants lend energy to her muscles as Mawely scratched behind her ear and made her laugh slightly.
Closing her eyes again, she enjoyed the attention that her friend was giving her, until a sudden yelling sound surprised her. She let out a shriek, rearing up and nearly throwing Mawely off as she bucked and darted away, leaving Mawely clinging to her reins, trying not to fall off. She only started listening when Mawely had pulled on her reins, and slowed to a confused halt. Where was...?
“Shhhh! It’s okay, Spirit,” Mawely reassured the startled Fire Horse, “It was just a Spinda. Well I guess we can’t go back; I can’t remember which way we came. I hope it’s alright from jumping out of that tree...” Well, the world was filled with crazy Pokémon, and that Spinda was just another one... They continued up Route One at a steady pace.
MAWELY Reassured Spirit that it was just a crazy Spinda.
Was surprised by the Spinda's sudden shouting and was spooked. Bolted further down Route One, away from the Spinda. LEVEL THREE.

After walking down the route a ways, it seemed that the horse and male would no longer be disturbed by any pokemon. But of course, had they been thinking that, they would have been quite wrong. A few feet ahead of the Ponyta was an empty path...Until an Oddish popped out of a nearby bush. It began to walk slowly across the path, blocking anyone from moving along. But as it made it halfway over the route, another Oddish appeared behind it, along with two more. The foursome made a line across the path, moving ever so slowly to the other side.
<Hurry up little ones! We must get to cover before we are spotted!> The first Oddish spoke out to her children behind her, not noticing Mawley and the Ponyta coming toward them. Little did they know that a Tailow was circling above them, eying the smallest Oddish with a grin.

Proceeding through Route One, they had figured that something interesting would happen soon and it appeared they were right. Four Oddish were crossing the path in front of them a short distance away, and thankfully he noticed a blue shape, followed by a shadow moving around a bit higher up. Circling the smallest Oddish was a Taillow, which was clearly looking for something to eat; but Mawely had a dilemma on his hands. Should he interfere with the law of nature and try to protect the Oddish, or should he let nature run its course and let ashes return to ashes?
Spirit stopped, looking up toward the Taillow, which was intent on catching the Oddish, and she whinnied quietly, shifting to show she was uncomfortable and itching to do something. Mawely knew it was probably to protect the Oddish, but... What should he do? If that Taillow ate the Oddish, he’d have another problem on his hands; a group of angry, grief-stricken weed Pokémon to explain why he hadn’t saved their child. On the other hand, if he did, he’d have to fight the Taillow.
...Fuck it. That Oddish hadn’t lived yet.
“Run kids!” He shouted thunderously, leaping off of Spirit and pulling the reins off. The Fire Horse charged toward the flying type, taking a massive leap into the air, whinnying as she flew. Her powerful muscles rippled under her cream coat and she aimed her shoulder to ram the predatory bird.
Such a beautiful set of feathers on a well-built bird... Mawely couldn’t help but think as he scurried to shoo the Oddish away. Such a Pokémon he would definitely have on his team. He’d have to capture it.
MAWELY Shouted loudly to frighten the Oddish away.
Used Growl and Tackle on the Taillow. LEVEL THREE.

At the sound of someone yelling, the mother Oddish turned to the human, seeing him race toward her children with a strange look on his face. Momma Oddish yelped out loud, not knowing that the man was only trying to protect them from the bird pokemon above. <Children! Run!> She shouted out, ramming her body into the line of weed pokemon, sending the three babies into the safety of the bushes.
The Taillow, seeing the Ponyta rage toward him, couldn't dodge in time and was sent smashing into the path below, crying out as he slowly stood back up. <Hey, what was that for? I'm hungry...> He muttered, wiping dirt from his feathers. Meanwhile Momma Oddish turned on Mawley, eyes fierce as she charged him. <How dare you try to harm my babies!>

Seeing Spirit make contact with the Taillow, he nodded approvingly as the mare knocked it to the ground out of the way of the Oddish family, and he quickly side-stepped, avoiding being hit by the Oddish’s mother, who was clearly confused. Spirit stood in front of the Taillow, her eyes blazing like the fire that symbolised her type, and she stomped her foot on the ground at the Taillow.
“You can’t go for the youngest ones,” Spirit explained, though this would come out as a whinny to Mawely, who couldn’t understand Pokéspeech. Suddenly she felt bad for hurting the Flying type, and she trotted toward a bush, pulling some berries from it and dropping them in front of the bird. “I’m sorry for hurting you, but there are other things for you to eat, too.”
Suddenly her ears turned to where the Oddish was attacking Mawely, and she reared up, stomping her feet down in front of the Weed Pokémon, kicking out to defend her friend. “Stop it! My trainer was trying to save your babies from that Taillow!” She said, flaring the fire on her mane in hopes that the Oddish would stop her attack.
Suddenly Mawely’s Teddiursa had come out of her Pokéball and was running toward the Taillow with her claws unsheathed, ready to fight. She leered at the Flying Type and brought her claws down toward it’s head in a Scratch attack.

The Taillow quickly saw that another pokemon was going up against him now and he was okay with dealing with either one. The pokemon hit the Taillow with it's menacing eyes before scratching the pokemon on it's wing to cause it some major bodily harm. >Oh. You are going to hurt me? Lets see how you like it when I strike you!< He said as he began to take a deep breath before flying towards the Teddiursa in an attempt to peck at it's head. >You will not like this one bit, no you will not!<The mother Oddish started to believe a little more when she saw the Taillow running at the Teddiursa but she was still not entirely convinced. >There was no need to be rude and yell at us and startle my young-ins. They could have fallen and hurt themselves! That was not very kind of you!< She said as she held her hand to her hips. >I demand an apology!< She said to Mawely. ::Taillow:: (-1 defense) (-1 attack) Hit by Leer and Scratch. Fiercely pecking at Evening’s head, the Taillow attacked, and Mawely wanted to shout out to the Teddiursa that there was no need for violence. However this battle had already begun, and there was probably nothing he could do to prevent it. He’d just have to instruct Teddiursa on what to do and hope that everything turned out okay. Thankfully Spirit wasn’t a part in this battle. First, however, he turned to the Oddish and listened to her want an apology.
“It was either I call out or your child got snatched, ma’am,” he pointed out respectively, in a tone that was calm as not to hurt her feelings further. “But you’re right that they could have injured themselves. My apologies,” he nodded slightly, showing some level of respect to the mother, who was only wanting the best for her children. Mawely could sympathise; his mother had been very protective of him as a child, so he knew how it felt. Spirit was like a child to him, and when she got in trouble, he always felt really worried of what could happen.
Teddiursa, who had been hit by Peck, jumped back a few paces and almost went into a Fake Tears attack, but then decided it was better for a Leer. Even so, both were good attacks, so which should she use?
“Leer, then spin into scratch!” The command came her way and she braced herself, leering angrily at the Taillow before the Little Bear Pokémon did a nice spin, slamming her claws toward the Flying type in an effort to cause more damage to him.

Pokemon encounter ! Taillow smirked at the Teddiursa's harsh glare at him, though it still lowered his defense some. Eyes pinned only on the bear, he focused on the direction and speed of the attack and was fully prepared to exploit it. He flapped backwards to dodge the move, then burst forward at the bear and prepared a quick counterstrike. <You sure you're up for this?> He challenged as his beak swerved towards the bear's shoulder.
The mother Oddish listened with a stern scowl as the human apologized to her, then gave a sigh that echoed months of stress and fatigue. She'd been through a lot of danger, so she couldn't help overreacting. <Sorry about that. Actually, you're right - I owe my childrens' lives to you.> She said apologetically. Then a small laugh escaped her. <I very nearly had a heart attack there,> She breathed, her face clear and relieved. Then, surveying the battle, she smiled kindly. <It looks like you have it under control, then. We'll be taking our leave.> She turned around and ushered her watching children away, hurrying from the dangerous scene. As much as she wanted to give a better thank you to the trainer, this was a matter of survival, and she didn't want to make any mistakes. ::taillow:: Male | Atk -1 Def -2 Hit by Leer, dodged Scratch. Evening had no problem taking the hit. Tactically she had raised her paw up to block her shoulder joint from the most of the blow, and spun again in another Scratch attack, leering once more at the Taillow. Sure, there was not much else for her to do, but at the same time, she’d fight for Mawely until her bones turned to dust.
“You don’t know me very well,” she smirked devilishly in return, flexing her claws in hopes that she would score a critical hit on the bird Pokémon. As she spun around, she saw her target area in the corner of her sharp eyes – the wing. Either wing would do, but the Taillow was a Flying type – if it couldn’t fly, it couldn’t use many attacks effectively. It was a cheap tactic, but it was a good one at the same time.
Spirit cheered her friend on from the sideline, watching as the Oddish family fled into the bushes and vanished. Well that was one problem over with; now there was just the Taillow to deal with. Glancing back at Mawely, she realised he was deep in thought, but she quickly stomped her hoof on the ground and snapped him out of it. Carefully he examined the battle that was being fought in front of them. Undoubtedly Evening could handle this by herself without any help, but he still had his hand on Midnight’s Pokéball, which was attached to his belt, just in case she needed any help.

The Taillow side stepped to avoid the Scratch attack, but was clipped on the wing by the bear's claws. The wing hurt like hell, and when he tried to flap it, a searing pain shot through his body. Great, now he couldn't have his advantage of flight! His eyes traveled toward the Teddiursa, narrowing in anger. <You are a worthy opponent, but I shall not lose!>
He then raced toward the Teddiursa, using a Peck toward the bear's face. He tried to zig-zag around so that way his opponent couldn't dodge, or bring out her claws once again. <Take this!> He yelled out, trying his hardest to land a critical hit.

Having landed the hit, a smirk toyed with Evening’s lips, and for a moment she thought about her finishing attack; she’d have to make it look great, but what could she combine? Suddenly she had the perfect combination, but she didn’t realise that the Taillow was attacking her.
“EVENING!”
Suddenly she was snapped out of her thoughts by Mawely's voice to see a flash of gold plunge straight for her muzzle, and her eyes widened in horror; she had to avoid it! Within a split second, her instincts had claimed her mind and she leaned away from the blow, feeling it part the fur on her body as she puffed out her chest and let out a fierce, bestial snarl.
Evening had barely avoided the Peck attack as it landed right next to her throat – a move that would have taken her out for sure. Sounds of wind screeching in her ears haunted her and she backed away, her eyes glaring straight at the Taillow. She wouldn’t be able to take a hit like that, would she? She’d have to be more careful and not get distracted. Waving to Mawely to signal she was alright, she leered at the Taillow and rushed forward in another scratch, still believing that she had got lucky with that dodge. She wouldn’t make the same mistake twice!
"Don't get too confident; it'll be your undoing!"

With a loud cry the Taillow fell back on the path, his other wing clipped by Teddiursa's claws. The pain running through him was too much to handle, and he found himself immobilized where he lay. A growl escaped his throat as he wriggled about, using up the last nit of energy he had left before speaking. <You...you are a worthy opponent. I...surrender to you...> he twittered out, before resting his head down in the dirt.

While he felt bad for Evening knocking it out, so was the life of a Wild Pokémon. It was fight or you get defeated, and unfortunately this was just one of those times. He’d wanted to capture this Pokémon since he first saw it, and he was pleased that Evening had grown so much. Regardless, the Taillow would make an excellent member of Mawely’s team, and it was polite enough to admit defeat. Carefully he picked the Flying Pokémon up in his hands, folding his wings gently before tapping a Pokéball on its forehead to hopefully secure the capture.
What would he name the beautiful bird, though? He wasn’t sure about that yet. He’d think about it, but the way the sun brought out the colours in his beautiful azure feathers, and the personality that it had shown before... Perhaps he would call it True Light, or True for short. Midnight had a fairly long name, which was good in all, but at the same time ‘Midnight Cherry Blossoms’ was a bit of an awkward name to say in the middle of a fast paced battle. He’d settled for Midnight, but had told her that she had a full name also.
“Rest now, my friend. I’ll look after you.” Promised the Commander as he gazed up to the skies where the Taillow had once soared. He would help it to recover, and then he would train it.

Glancing at the Pokéball, Mawely placed it back in his belt and mounted Spirit, cautiously looking at where the berries had fallen, and Spirit whinnied suspiciously. As tempting as it was to find out what had caused the Oran Berries to fall, they weren’t going to risk an ambush. Silently, Spirit reared up and dashed forward, pushing past the tree and further down into the Route.
Mawely had decided that he was going to call his new friend True Light – but he would do it perhaps in a different language. He would call his new friend... Byakuya - Japanese for True Light. The bird looked like it held an air of honour, so it was going to be fun to travel with him...

As the two proceeded down the path and past the berries on the ground, it seemed like a calm, cloudy day. The rest of the way looked bright and happy, as if nothing could make things any worse for the two...Until a large hole appeared right before Spirit, too close for the horse pokemon to possibly jump, even if it tried. A Dwebble and Bidoof could be found at the bottom of this hole, should Spirit try to jump and fall in.

Suddenly Mawely pulled back on the reins and reared back just before her hooves would plunge into the hole. Thankfully she had avoided that catastrophe, but what about the hole? Mawely dismounted, crouching down to look inside before he noticed the Dwebble and the Bidoof in there. What on earth...?
“You alright down there?” He called, unsure of what else to say. Bidoof were usually near Dams, but to find one in a hole was just strange. “Are you stuck?” Hey, the Dwebble looked quite cool, didn’t it? He’d never seen something like that before. Tilting his head, he observed the rocky shell on its back and blinked softly. He’d like that on his team.
Spirit could tell what was coming, though she figured that it would be cool to fight with this thing. She reared up and charged forward toward the hole in a tackle attack, aiming for the Dwebble.

The Bidoof and Dwebble were just having fun, digging a hole in the ground together. They were both young, and they didn't really know any better. But when the human and Ponyta found them in their hole, the Bidoof squeaked out something fierce before hopping out of the hole and zooming off into the sunset.
The Dwebble, however, simply watched as the Ponyta charged it, not sure of what to do. But when the horse neared it retracted into it's shell for protection. When the tackle hit, the shell went flying around the hole like a disc, coming back at the Ponyta full force, with the baby Dwebble inside squealing happily.

Spirit whinnied loudly, leaping out of the hole as the Dwebble ricocheted around. Mawely would be amused if it shouted Taheka Banzai – a phrase in Japan that was used in the Second World War, but he doubted it would know such a word. Mawely didn’t know exactly how such a young Pokémon could do such a strange stunt. Spirit couldn’t attack, which was unsettling, but he had an idea. Unclipping a Pokéball from his belt, he tossed it toward the Dwebble in hopes that it would capture it.

Finally the Dwebble stopped moving around, landing in the center of the hole. It popped from its shell with dizzy eyes, and it looked as if it were going to be sick. It didn't even notice the pokeball as gravity pulled it downward, and only squeaked when it was caught within the red light. Too dizzy to struggle, the DSwebble stayed in the ball, deciding to sleep for the time being.
