“Loca, Growl! Ripple use Bubble again,” Kai tried not to let any emotion get into her voice, but she was happier that they were attacking the Lotad rather than Ripple. At least Loca had the ability to heal himself; Ripple had no such luxury.
Loca saw the Riolu turn on on him and embraced himself for the attack. Upon hearing the command, he let out the most vicious growl a small Pokémon of his manner could muster. Djinn hit him strongly for being a few levels weaker and the Growl attack. Loca was pushed back a few inches as he tried to hold his ground.
Ripple saw the perfect chance. Jace and Djinn had their backs turned to him as he used Bubble. There was nothing stopping him from releasing the longer stream of bubbles. He spat the spheres out with more precision than previously, aiming at Jace.

<<ftop>> It was a critical hit! Jace turned just in time to see a stream of deadly spheres of water hurling towards her. Each one exploded on her chest, and every hit was more painful than the last. She felt her eyelids droop, darkness washed over her. The very last thing she saw before she blacked out was Ripple's face distorted into a clown mask.
Syl smirked. "Great job, kid," he mumbled, recalling the Torchic. "Now can you handle Djinn? Quick Attack~" a tiny sparkle shower rained down from above him, accentuating his masculinity(fabulousness?).
Jace's gaze shifted between Loca and Ripple, unsure of which to strike. Ripple seemed like the more immediate thread, but Absorb was taking it's toll. <Screw it> he said, lunging for Ripple.

“Absorb! Bubble!” Ripple attempted to start up another stream of bubbles, but the memory of the earlier quick attack froze him in place. He stood there, wide eyed as the Riolu came at him full force.
Loca cursed under his breath, he realized what had happened to Ripple. Concentrating on Djinn however, he tried to absorbed the Pokémon’s energy mid-attack. It was always easier to hit a stationary movement however.

<<ftop>> Djinn wasn't able to brush off the absorb and bubble combo so easily. He stood, chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. Dark eyes focused on Ripple, the bigger threat of the two. Did he have enough strength to win?
Maybe not. For now, he needed to conserve energy. Gaze flicked to Syl - trainer was busy leering at Kai, and didn't seem particularly invested in the battle. Rolling his eyes, Djinn decided to conserve energy and used Endure.
He would be around for another turn, sure, but would this be enough?

“Aren’t you going to call any commands?” Kai asked, noticing that Syl’s Pokémon had begun to do their own thing more than play by their trainer’s rules. “Astonish. Ripple, stand down.”
Ripple took a step away from the Riolu and out of any line of fire. Loca took the initiative, flicking a bit of ghastly water at the Pokémon in its astonishment.

<<ftop>> It was a waste of time on the Professor's part. Syl didn't bother letting the attack connect with Riolu - he recalled the pokemon instead.
"Good battle," he mumbled to her. Any other Professor likely would have made a fuss, but losses were something the red-head was used to. His thumb traced patterns on the smooth metal pokeball. It had been quite awhile since he had battled at all.
His face broke out into a (rare) grin, and he laughed. "Haha! I haven't felt that exhilarated in ages! At least, not with battling," he added.
Ripple and Loca have gained 2 levels from their battle! Djinn and Jace have gained 1 level from their battle! <<fbot>>

Kai eyed him oddly. He had a rather cute smile, but it seemed almost as odd on him as a smile would on Kai. “Exhilarated? You let me win. How could you feel exhilarated by that?” She questioned curiously, recalling her Pokémon as well. She stepped closer to Syl, interested in knowing whether or not the deal would be kept.
She held her hand out for a handshake, feeling this was the polite thing to do after having battled the Professor.

_ _ _ _ _ _ . R e s i x Syl spied an opportunity. Hand darted out, clasping hers and bringing it to his mouth for a kiss. "How could I forget, darling?" man purred, smile turning slightly feral. He was practically foaming at the mouth.
"A deal's a deal, I have some rather unsavory business I need to attend to, but that has less to do with Pokémon and more with a silly secondary job I have," he dismissed it with another grin, this one lopsided and goofy.
Letting go of her hand, he reached into his bag and pulled out a trio of Pokeballs. The metal casing on all three were lined with scratches and dents, well worn from years of battling and training.
"I think..." he said carefully, plucking one out with his other hand and tossing it, "that it's time for you to meet my ride. I don't own a car. Although I could," Syl added quickly.
From a dazzling flicker of red light, a great beast emerged. It's chest heaved and it exhaled flames, wings lifting it a few feet off the ground. Where a normal Charizard was coloured orange, this one's scales shone black. Ryuujin alighted on the ground next to Syl.
Syl chuckled, patting Jin's snout affectionately. "Now, what did you want to help me with?"

Kai felt warm, her face growing a pale shade of pink as he kissed her hand. Her stomach twisted in to a tight knot. She prayed she did not look as awkward and out of place as she felt. In some ways, she felt as though she were a mediaeval mistress, being greeted by a kind sir, except this was not the case with Syl.
When he released her hand she stepped towards the Charizard in absent minded awe. Her hand reached up cautiously to try to pet the Pokémon. “Anything you need help with,” She was looking up at the dark Pokémon with a great deal of wonder.
Her attention snapped back at Syl,who was looking as adorable as he could given the state of his hair, with a curious yet sly expression, “You really did let me win, huh?” She faced the Charizard again, interested in the Pokémon and trying to hide her slight chuckle as she contemplated why a person as self-absorbed as Syl would let her win a Pokémon battle.

SYL _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Syl shook his head, tendrils of still-damp red hair flying around his shoulders. "Yes and no; I mean, I could have won I suppose, but training your weaker Pokémon is also part of being a trainer. Jace and Djinn did well, considering it was their first battle." That smile of his crept back across his face, and he added: "besides, I can't let such a gorgeous young flower become discouraged with training so soon in your career. Trust me, you'll have plenty of time to give up and go home." He patted Jin again, who responded by loosing a puff of smoke from his nostrils. Syl tilted his head to the side, the rusty gears in his brain turning. "Come to think of it," he had a weird expression on his face as he dipped his hand into his bag once again. Depositing the pokeballs he was already holding, he pulled out another. "There is something I need help with. You see, I've been so busy lately. I haven't had time to raise this little guy," he examined the odd-coloured pokeball in his hand. Thumb found the button, and pressed it. A sleek feline stretched it's back legs and shook itself off. It's glossy black fur was offset by orange stripe markings on it's face, back and feet. Tail curled into a heart-shape, and a few stray hearts bobbed around it curiously. It mewed at Syl, batting at the Professor's pant leg. Ignoring it, Syl continued: "Part of being a professor is raising new species of Pokémon. Unfortunately, I just haven't had the time. You've proven yourself to be a competent trainer, after all you beat the best of the best!" he started to sparkle again. He took a step forward and pressed the premier ball into Kai's hands. "I'm counting on you to look after this little guy. Will you help me out?"

Kai felt honored, and a little shy once more, when Syl gave her the pokeball. He was giving her a Pokémon to help raise? “O-okay,” She stammered. His compliments, and the idea of him taking off on the Charizard, made her feel both excited and a little sad.
“It was a good battle, thank you for the honor,” She tried to smile, feeling herself become flustered again, “Are you leaving now…?” Kai tried to hide the disappointment in her voice, but Syl was her first friend on what would hopefully be a long Pokémon journey.
She looked over at the Sciet with some curiosity. Pokémon like that don’t come around every day, and now it was her Pokémon. It was an odd looking feline, black and orange fur, a single eye, and- is that a Mawile’s horn on its head? …
“When can I expect you to see you through those binoculars again?” She smirked, a small smile crossing her face.
[[Occ:// Aww! Kai doesn't want him to go xD]]

SYL _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ He shrugged a shoulder, flashing her his lopsided grin once more. "Me and my binoculars get around, so you may see me sooner than you think! Um, one last thing," tearing a piece of paper out of the notebook he carried in his bag, he scribbled down a series of numbers. "My cell phone number. Not many people know this, and I would like to keep it that way," his expression turned serious as he passed her the paper. "Let me know if anything happens with Sciet. I'm at the lab most days, but sometimes I'm just wandering around. Don't hesitate to call if you need anything though."
Feeling a bit awkward himself, he hoisted himself onto Jin's back. Grin broadened, he withdrew the binoculars from his bag and stared at her as Jin's wings flapped, lifting the duo into the air. Soon they were just a tiny dot in the sky - Professor Syl, Jin and his binoculars.

It was somewhat saddening to see Syl go. Kai was clenching the paper tightly, her heart rate slowly falling back to normal. She peered down at the numbers, it seemed to be a legit cell phone number. She shoved the paper into her pocket and glanced down at the Sciet, her other hand holding its pokeball.
“Would you like to stay out or return?” Kai asked, holding the pokeball out before her in a sort of offering. The Sciet disappeared, letting itself be engulfed by a bright red light. He did not wish to travel with Kai and longed for Syl’s return.
Ripple stayed out, plopped down on the grass where he had been since the battle’s end. He now stood up, knowing that if he did not drag his trainer along from the patchy field she’d remain there thinking of Syl. <Come on, we ought to get back to the path,> He said, walking in the path’s general direction. Kai followed closely.

[[ aww. lucky.]]
As the two approached where they assumed the general area of the path was, there was something rather unusual impeding their passage. It was quite the odd scene alright, seeing sticky white string spread across from tree to tree, making a border that was impossible for human or Pokemon to pass through. The culprit of this mess stood proudly at the other side of his custom made wall, still adding some final touches to his work of art.
<None shall pass, lest my rage be cast.> He hummed in a funny rhyme, mostly to himself to keep himself occupied. It looked like it was possible to just tail down the forest to see where it ended, but that could be a while. Plus, getting through it was just so much quicker. Why wouldn't you want the convenient route?

Kai noticed the small Pokémon with some interest. It wasn’t the kind she’d like to catch, but it would be good to use for training. She stooped down to its small level, smiling at the Pokémon. “Hi, mind having a battle with me?” She returned Ripple to his pokeball, giving him a rest from his earlier two battles, and pulled out a pokeball, holding a Pokémon she recently received.

Seeing the trainer approach his wall, but not crossing it, he looked up at her with curiosity. She didn't seem willing to cross or break through his webbing, so perhaps she had good intentions. Crawling through a hole, he inched up to her in order to greet her properly.
<Salutations, I'm glad to see your dedications. Assist with training? Quite energy draining. Shall I comply? I will fight, and I will fly.> He had to pause and think of a rhyme for 'comply', but he somehow pulled it off. He nodded his answer to her, since body language often spoke louder than speech.
He inched a bit farther from her and his precious web, so neither would be injured in the process. Why, if anything happened to his work of art, why, he might go and kill someone. Or something. Whichever worked.

Kai laughed at the Pokémon’s rhymes. It was a sweet Pokémon, very formal and polite. It inched away from its web, masterfully designed by the worm like Pokémon. “Thank you, sir,” She smiled acting as formal as him.
She tossed the pokeball, allowing a purple snake like Pokémon to materialize from the red light of the pokeball. Medea hissed glaring at Kai. Finally, a chance to get my revenge! ...What is this Pokémon doing? Planning on attacking me? Medea laughed at the Pokémon’s foolishness, mocking its agreement to the battle.

::weedle:: /// The intelligent Weedle looked through irritated eyes at the ekans, then smirked in reply to her mocking laughter. <Laugh now, O serpent, while you can; for when this is over you willn't stand.> The worm recited, a grin still adorning his face.
Taking the snake's stillness as an invitation for him to make the first move, he wriggled toward the serpent and unleashed web from his jaws. Oh, how he adored using String Shot - often, he aimed it so that he were sketching a picture in web upon his opponent.
Weedle used String Shot!

Kai smiled at the Weedle’s audacity. “Medea use leer!” She called out to the Ekans. Her victories from her two earlier battles gave her a sense of self confidence. It was her confidence led her to a sense of cockiness, not quite realizing Medea’s unwillingness to listen.
Medea snarled as the white silky string fell upon her. <Why how dare you defile me!> She hissed at the Weedle in disgust. <And how dare you think I will take orders from someone as inexperienced and as childish as you,> She spat at Kai. Had the Weedle not attack her, she would have stayed put- refusing to budge from where she was. However, he had attacked her and she would not stand for it!
Medea swiftly slivered up to Weedle, attacking the Pokémon with Wrap.

So it had been two days sense his time at the ranger's station, with the crazy lady ranger thing and her odd little Cleffa. In truth he was all to happy to get his butt out of there when he had Notre in his pokeball, that woman was just crazy. There was no way around it, and he had practically ran like a pack of crazed houndooms were chasing him, into the nearest pokecenter where he stayed for the night, letting the bronzor rest and relax. And not only to figure out how to work with the pokemon.
It was...Interesting. The way the pokemon's mind worked, often times he felt himself staring stupidly as the pokemon made a comment, but for the most part they were a surprising pair that seemed to actually manage to stand one another. Or that's at least what one night had said for them both, and in the morning they were off bright and early.
So there he was, gently flouncing off into the rout, eyes looking around excitedly with his head turning to and fro, bright and eager to find anything. Any thing at all. Notre, however, floated and bobbed along side him, occasionally whisking away to check something out, follow an idle insect, then return to his side once he was content with the gathered information. Though that never stopped the creatures eyes from twisting, turning to peer at anything until they finally turned, spying something truly interesting.
Look. The pokemon droned, many simply hearing a monotone 'zoooong' as Notre called his attention to something at their side. Aki turned his eyes to peer over to what was indicated, blinking before grinning excitedly. "Oooh, a battle!" The small blond just about sang, flouncing closer, though still a mostly respectable distance away, hanging back to watch the bug and the snake battle, though it hardly looked like the latter was going to comply with it's trainer.
But that didn't stop them both from watching, the steel pokemon by his side drifting slightly before sliding himself back into his spot. The giant yellow eyes in his skull twisting back and fourth between the pokemon, the trainer, his own, then back again to repeat the process, curious but cautious all at once.
