Now, to find some Pokémon! Equipment ready, and eyes taking in his surroundings - the trees and grassy plains itself couldn't stop his determination. The two pokeballs in his hands held weight to them, hiko and burmy the only two he currently held. He was ready to train his team to maximum potency and gear them for taking on the first gym, where he would begin to carve his own legend. A single smirk rested on his lips as he began to move forward, peering left and right into the underbrush and bushes for any Pokémon who might decide to jump on out - give him a visit. "Come out, come out, wherever you are~" he called, voice slightly low as to not scare off any unsuspecting prey nearby.

If there were two words most would use to describe a male Combee, they would be "easily replaced." Or maybe "readily available." Neither of which appealed to the one hovering sadly through La Première Route, the slow beat of his wings as well as the trio of downhearted expressions on his faces a dead giveaway as to how he felt. The Combee hierarchy was Vespiquen- female Combee- the male Combee, or the drones, as the female Combee so liked to call them. The queen herself was rather gracious towards the males, but she had always favoured the females above all others. Her inner circle consisted of females. The males were just worker bees. And if any died to winter's gelid chill, there were thousands more waiting to take his place in the hierarchy and work until the day he died. Settling on a flower, he slowly extracted the nectar, another intake of that sweet something for the sustenance of the hive, not that he or any of the others would really receive thanks for it. But that was the life of a male Combee, wasn't it? A slave. A drone. The thankless provider. ::combee::

The trainer would come across what appeared to be a flying... bee thing? Standing a distance away, he observed it collecting nectar from the flowers, Simon's pokedex flicked open as it recorded the Pokemon's data. "Ugh... a bug Pokemon. Male... wow, male's really suck." with a sigh, the first pokeball at his hip was selected as he tossed it towards the ground nearby the Combee. Even if he didn't want to keep it, it would be easy experience for his Torkoal. After his defeat, he wasn't so eager to lose again. A burning fire for revenge was placed into his soul.

The Combee looked around to see a human and buzzed curiously, thinking about making an approach so that he could examine the human closer, the thought even breaking him out of his depressed stupor for long enough to be curious. But then a huge steaming THING was sent out, and Combee was immediately terrified. Woah... A Pokemon this strong so early in the route was just unusual, and something he was unused to. D-destroy him completely? Terror gave way to total numbness. What would he do? He couldn't flee. If that human wanted him dead, he'd attack him in the back. Buzzing frantically, he did the only thing he could. Fight. Beating the winds into a frenzy with his filmy membranous wings, he directed the gust at the Torkoal in a futile attempt at resistance. Survival. ::combee:: Used Gust.

The Combee was frantic, and while Simon wasn't exactly this heartless of a trainer, he certainly didn't want to lose again. Besides, with the life the male Combee had, it was probably best to simply... disappear. But he wasn't certain if he could... actually kill him. There was a brief pause, and as the gust of wind struck out, Simon put up his left forearm to shield his eyes before shouting his order. "Use Ember! But don't kill him!"
The Torkoal complied, and after it was pushed back a bit by the strong gust (along with being hit by twigs, rocks, and what not), it shook its head at the damage it sustained and grunted. Jaws opened, and the Pokemon released a flame towards the Combee, the small stream aiming to burn the flying bug Pokemon to at least cause it to faint - not die.

The Combee relaxed at the thought of not being killed. Not noticeably. Or even all that much. But the thought of being injured was obviously more appealing than the thought of dying. Nevertheless, he was still far from calm, and he let out an agonised squeal of pain as the fire washed over him, dealing critical damage to the little tri faced honeycomb and sending him buzzing back a few inches, trying to blink away tears. No. He couldn't cry. He had to be a brave warrior... a brave warrior for the queen he barely even respected. The irony was staggering. Beating his wings madly, he stirred up another wind, sending it at the Torkoal without another word. He had to fight to the bitter end. Otherwise what sort of a Combee was he? ::combee:: Used Gust.

Ffft. Now Simon was starting to feel bad. Gosh darnit, this Pokémon really did know how to drive a deal. Now he was feeling sentimental - and watching the Pokémon fight back tears, he grasped an empty pokeball and waited until the gust hit the tortoise again (which grunted and shook off more of the stone, twigs and leaves). Then with a throw, it was released and would attempt to capture the injured bug Pokémon. "Don't fight back, or you'll die!" Simon shouted to the Combee, making the threat clear.

The Combee's eyes widened. 'Don't fight back or you'll die!' made it pretty clear what he was gonna do. The Pokeball whacked him on the head and he was sucked inside. How he wanted to fight back so bad, he wanted to leave and go back home! But he didn't want to die! No, dying was bad, VERY bad. Inside the Pokeball he did not even atempt to struggle against it, his life depended on this. He gritted his teeth and sniffled quietly. Being caught against his will, although this happened to most Pokémon why did it have to be him?
The Pokeball finally stopped moving, as the newly caught Combee was now owned by a mean Trainer.

With a sigh, the new Pokemon was acquired - though unwanted. Simon was simply way too sympathetic to be a Pokemon battler - maybe that's why his parents coordinated contests. Teeth grinded down as he continued to push on, ignoring the fact that he felt like an absolute a-hole for nearly killing it. I mean, what is this! Poor innocent creatures, constantly dying for the amusement of their trainers. All of this was inconceivably wrong, yet it was the culture. The way of life.
His search continued, eyes peering left and right as he kept searching through the forest for something else, something hopefully less sucky as a male Combee.

Up ahead their was quite the commotion, as a group of Pokémon were crowded around something, making quite the fuss. It seemed something rather unusual was going on, as pidgeys, starly, nincada, even a few chatot, were gathered around whatever it was. <Oh it's so amazing!> <What on earth did you do?> <Th-that shine is incredible!> <Marry me!> Though the large majority of the Pokémon were enthralled by whatever they were crowded around, a single hoothoot seemed to be keeping guard. Though half asleep his keen ears still picked up the heavy footfall of a trainer, a single eye creeping open to observe the a human gallavanting through the route, no doubt intent of performing many Malfeasant deeds. <T-trainer!> the hoothoot cried, practically falling from his perch as he shouted, before quickly turning and flying away. Following suit the other Pokémon all began to turn and flee, knowing just how dangerous it was to stay in a trainers presence. As they all cleared though a single Pokémon remained. [pink]<Oh N-no! This...this definitely isn't good...>[/pink]a tiny nidoran muttered, fumbling with a small pink berry in her paws, as she tried to escape. She'd always been such a butter fingers, and now while in such a scary situation it was no different. It was clear she was a nidoran...though her gender certainly was questionable. Sure she looked like a nidoran female, but she wasn't blue... she was pink. How could any trainer resist her stunning features? She was a diva, a popstar...she was-- well, that was her little secret. Before the trainer could get any closer the little nidoran gobbled up her pink little berry, determined to smother the borborygm in her stomach, so she could face this odd looking fellow with pride. Turning around, her head held high, the pink nidoran female calmly watched the trainer approached, hoping he didn't have a fetish for all things pink.

There was a sudden flutter of Pokemon in every which direction, and the trainer looked moderately confused. However, his green eyes shifted down to take notice of what appeared to be... a pink... nidoran? His pokedex was flicked open as he observed the rather fidgety female, and after gaining information on it he grinned. "Now this is more like it!" the lame Combee was certainly made up for - this Pokemon had to be rare... it was pink and awesome looking! Hah, people would be envious!
With a toss of his pokeball, Torkoal was released.

Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap! Terror rippled through the little poison point pokemon as it glanced about, looking for one of the fans and followers that had always followed her around up until now. Gone, they'd all left her. Hmph! Some fan's they were. [pink]<R-ROAR! Look out i'm a big scary pokemon!>[/pink] she cried, stomping about and trying her best to look intimidating...even though battle totally wasn't her thing. Her lack of impact seemed rather clear though, as the trainer looked at her the way many male nidoran had in the past and sent out a rather intimidating looking turtle. Oh jeeze... she thought, her fear that this trainer had a fetish for pink pokemon, seemingly confirmed. Lacking options, and doubting she'd be able to run away from this trainer now, the pink nidoran let out decided maybe she could scare the trainer off with a showing of strength. Taking a deep breath she gave the torkoal her best attempt at an intimidating growl, before running forward, trying to scratch it with her claws. Used Growl and Scratch on Torkoal!

As the Nidoran did its best to look intimidating, Simon merely smiled at it and watched it begin its own onslaught. Sadly, white smoke neutralized growl - making it ineffective. Yet the claws that came down at him hit its mark, scratching the Torkoal which would release a mighty humph in response. "Hiko, use ember! Just don't knock it out!" at such a close range, it was easy to oblige. The tortoise opened its trap and released a flame that would attempt to deal some damage against the foe, enough for her to get the point that they were much stronger.

Adrenaline pumped through every fiber of the little Nidoran's being as she scurried back and forth to avoid the hot plumes of flame that Torkoal breathed in her direction. 'Ah, no no no no no no no!' Her pathetic mantra came out in little yelps each time the fire came too close for comfort. Her flight quickly shifted direction though, as she doubled back on the enemy turtle. This trainer wasn't about to capture this pink princess without a hard-won fight... even though pain wasn't really her thing. Nidoran charged forward again, her forepaws stretched out as she raked her claws against the much larger Torkoal. 'Take this!' Growl obviously hadn't been an effective tactic. This was Nidoran's last ditch effort. Scratch the hell out of Torkoal. Dodged Ember Used Scratch

He had to admit, she was giving him a better battle than the lame Combee earlier. A grin covered his face as he pointed his finger to the dodging Nidoran, and as it came back to attack... "Hiko, use Withdraw!" the tortoise complied, head and limbs ducking into its shell as the Nidoran began it's attack - scratching rapidly at the shell. "Ember!"
From the head hole of the shell shot out a flame, multiple flames, doing their best to deal damage to the annoying gnat. At least just enough to weaken it, it still was told not to cause it to faint.

The Nidoran screamed as she felt intense heat on her. The Ember had hit her right on her tail and now it was caught on fire! She tried to put it out by blowing on it but it wouldn't go out. <Ow ow ow ow!> She exclaimed as she rubbed her tail on the ground. She had finally gotten it to go out yet it was Burned her tail. She turned to the Torkoal and frowned. <Uh, fear me now for you have angered the beast!> She said, trying to make a mean face.
As she tried to make a 'mean face' she let out a pitaful Growl. The Nidoran's Growl couldn't even scare a Magikarp but it should have been able to lower attack if hit. Then she raced towards the fire type, as she jumped she tried to Scratch at its shell. She lashed back and forth and tried to stay on top of its back as she scratched.

The pest was really annoying, and Hiko showed its annoyance. The growl was again, ineffective as the white smoke covered for the tortoise Pokemon. Yet as the little pink rat came to attack at its shell and attempted to get on her, Hiko growled hatefully and began running around while shaking the shell harmfully in every other direction. Finally, the Torkoal would charge forward, slamming the side of its shell into a tree so that the pestering Nidoran would go flying.
"Once more, Ember!" and, on following orders, Hiko would launch another attack of flames at the Nidoran - though nothing to knock it out. Hopefully by now it would be weakened, so Torkoal was beginning to get fed up of holding back.

The Nidoran let out a shriek of pain as fire washed over her again, swishing her burned tail in fury and fear as she panted fearfully. What the hell was going on?! Even as her vision blurred, the burn on her tail kept her conscious in a bizarre twist of ironic fate, if only temporarily. She wouldn't last much longer against this blazing creature. Still, she didn't intend to go down yet. Rushing forward with a pained, determined hiss, her short claws began to glow a brilliant white as she brought them down on the eyes of the Torkoal, trying to remove the advantage of sight so that she could escape. Hurt by burn.Weakening. Used Scratch.

As the Nidoran charged, Hiko instantly drew its body into the shell and avoided the attack at his eyes, as his shell was raged upon. Simon himself grinned, having retrieved an empty pokeball and tossing it at the Nidoran while it was distracted in its fury of swipes at the shell. "Stay and I'll heal you!" Simon bribed, not even really believing these Pokemon understood his threats or promises. For now he waited, and Torkoal came from out its shell - waiting to blast an Ember at the darned thing.

Pokemon encounter ! The female Nidoran continued to scratch feebly at the Torkoal's shell. Bringing up one paw, she looked it over with horror on her face. <Oh Arceus, nooooo! You broke my nail!> She squealed angrily. Before she could do anything more, the pokeball clapped into the side of her head and swallowed her up.
From the inside of the pokeball she could hear the trainer's shout of a promise, wondering for a second if she could trust him. Not really caring about the sorry state of the rest of her body, she cried out, Can you make nails grow back, huh, punk!? However, since she was contained in the sphere, only she could hear it. The nidoran fought against the red and white pokeball, but it was to no avail. She had neither the energy nor the motivation to escape. Sighing, she relinquished herself to the ownership of this new trainer.
