She'd been looking forward to her gym challenge all day. She'd done a little work with her new Pokemon, figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, and she knew who was going to start out of the fight. Even as she walked in the door, she fingered the spherical objects, unable to wait until she released them.
"Hello, anyone here?" Lyra called out. "I'm here to challenge you." |

Leader Adrian was getting a manicure from her attendants when suddenly she heard the creaking of the entrance door as Lyra trudged in. Lips curving in a smile, she gestured for her attendees to leave her and stood from her throne-like chair. "Welcome. I am Adrian, and I will be battling you." She proclaimed, stepping down to her side of the battlefield.
"But let us waste no time with formalities. You may go first, girl." Said the woman, once she'd gotten a good look at her challenger. Removing two pokeballs from her belt, she pressed the buttons on both of them and allowed her first duo, Cat and Rat, exit their capsules. Yawning and stretching, both were in prime condition and ready to do battle. They both looked fiercely at their opponent, learning from their ladylike leader.

The leader's Pokémon were a meowth and a rattata. Her mouth quirked up in a smile. Her first Pokémon were a good choice after all. She pressed the button, revealing a chikorita and a skarmory. The chikorita immediately took a battle stance, glaring the cat Pokémon down. Red, however, rustled her metal feathers.
"Flore, use Razor Leaf. Red, use Agility." Immediately razor sharp leaves were thrown in the direction of the cat and the rat, spiraling dangerously towards them. With a flap of her mighty wings, Red rose into the air, circling the pair, slowly going faster and faster. "Now use Swift, Red!" Lyra commanded her Pokémon. |

Adrian saw the leaves rapidly approaching her pokemon and responded quickly. "Dodge, my darlings!" She commanded, eyes fixed on the battlefield. Meowth attempted to jump to the side but was too slow; the cutting leaves sliced across his skin like multiple burning papercuts. Meowth gave a hiss of pain before descending to the ground, irritating the wounds he'd just obtained. His rodent counterpart, however, leapt out of the way of the leaves with ease due to his stealthier body.
Swift, however, was too fast for either of them to dodge. Star-like objects came rapidly towards them, slicing up their bodies even more. They could feel their health falling rapidly even though it was only the first turn. The strength of their opponents both awed and enraged them and Adrian, who looked on with sourness in her expression.
Raising a hand to point at the two enemies, she gave her commands. "Rat, bite on the plant. Cat, use Fake out on Skarmory." She purred, enjoying the sound of her own voice.
Her two pokemon executed her orders. Rattata swiftly approached Flore, jaws parting to show his sharp, blunt teeth. Meowth advanced towards the Skarmory and executed his own attack.

"Use Reflect, Flore!" The sound of her trainer's voice jolted Flore out of her fear. She had been backing away from the rat pokemon, but now she threw up a barrier around both her and the skarmory. She didn't dodge the attack, and instead chose to take it head on, however the pain was numbed by the power of the Reflect. She winced. "Magical Leaf on the meowth!" The girl hoped to stop the meowth in its tracks.
Red Baron took to the skies again, lifting herself away from the meowth, dodging its first attack. "Red, Fury Attack on the rattata!" The bird began to close in on her new prey.
[um i forget what fake out's accuracy was, if it can't be dodged feel free to say so and i'll fix it] |

[[ The first time Fake Out is used it should not be avoided. It's meant to be a sneaky attack that everyone falls for the first time, but gets wise about it after that. However, I'll make an exception this time. Flying away out of reach is an acceptable dodge.]]
Rat had chosen a rather unfortunate place to bite his opponent; the rubbery leaf upon her head. It was currently glowing with an enchanted aura, as if it was gathering energy from her body in order to fuel this grass type move. Eyes widening, the Rattata swiftly released his jaws from the attack and backed away.
"Dodge it, Rat!" Adrian exclaimed as soon as she saw the leaf get its magical color, but by then the attack had been swiftly executed. Like a boss. Knocked backwards by a storm of leaves, the rat's health went down even further. It wouldn't be long now, since he was against an opponent that was clearly stronger than him.
"Use Tail Whip on both opponents. Then Quick Attack that Chikorita!" Adrian replied, just noticing that her Meowth's Fake Out had missed by pure luck. Why wasn't luck on her side today? Why?! Now the Skarmory was planning on taking poor Rat out, but Meowth could get the beast for sure!
"Cat, darling. Use Fake Out before that Skarmory can attack." She commanded, using every little trick that came into her head to save poor Rat. Rat wiggled his tail cutely at both opponents, looking like an idiot, but it often caught other Pokemon off guard. Then he made a mad sprint towards the Chikorita with a faint blur of his outline trailing behind him. It would be hard to avoid something that fast, but the damage would be reduced.
Cat had looked up towards the nosediving Skarmory and grinned. With claws extended, the Meowth jumped up into the air after the metallic bird, looking as if he was going to attack the bird's beak. Then he proceeded to scratch at the Skarmory's eyes in a quick and weak attack to make the Skarmory waste a turn.

The rattata's tail entranced her, and Flore saw too late it was a trap. She cried out as the Quick Attack hit her, although the blow was still weakened by her Reflect. She slid back a few inches, then without word from her trainer began sprinkling Poisonpowder everywhere above the rattata. She then stuck her tongue out at it.
Meanwhile, Red's attack was interrupted by the Meowth's Fake Out. She fluttered back down to the ground, surprised out of attacking. It didn't do much damage, but it shocked her just enough to work. There was nothing Lyra could command her to do before her opponent's next turn. |

As the Poison Powder started to fill through the air, at first a highly concentrated cloud that engulfed only Rat, but slowly dissipated as it settled harmlessly into the air around him. Unfortunately for Rat, he breathed in enough of the poisonous powder to suffer from Poison. Ugh, his body had a natural reaction to try and cough the substance out of his system, but it hardly did any good. Already the toxins were attacking at his body, causing brief spasms every now and then that sapped away at his health.
<I-I'll get you for that...> The Rattata growled, really ticked at the Chickorita's taunting tongue. He started to charge forward with a Tackle attack, but the Poison was just enough to do him in. Mid-way in the attack, the Rattata fell to the ground feeling completely sick to his stomach.
"...hmth. I see you've trained your team long and hard." Adrian replied coolly, returning Rat back into his Pokeball. Debating which Pokemon she should call out next, she finally settled on the Natu, which might actually do some damage against her foe's Skarmory.
"Bird, use Night Shade on your rival avian." She ordered before Bird was even released from her container. As the contraption shuddered open, she flew into the air, already looking for her winged foe. Getting a good view of the Skarmory's silver wings, she used a Night Shade against her steely frame.
"Cat, use Growl on both opponents." She pointed right ahead at the center of the field, emotions taking control of her. Cat happily obliged, anything to weaken both of these tough foes. With a harsh, evil growl, the Meowth made an effort to lower their attack stat.

She hadn't quite been expecting the Rattata to faint so fast, but she supposed the pokemon she had ordered were quite strong. She'd done some studying up on their attacks to make sure she could use them. If Lyra was anything, she certainly wasn't stupid.
"...hmth. I see you've trained your team long and hard." "I'll take that as a compliment," the girl said, smiling slightly. She couldn't help but be a little proud.
After it collapsed, the gym leader sent out a Natu. Interesting choice, she thought. Her expression changed when it used Night Shade. Not good, and she grimaced as the attack hit Red. The skarmory cried out in pain, staggering backwards. Night Shade does damage based on level, not on defense or attack power. After thinking for a bit, she came up with something. It was simple. "Flore, use Magical Leaf on the cat." Her plan was simply to finish off the Meowth so hopefully she could focus her attacks on the Natu. With a shake of her leaf, the Chikorita sent sharp leaves toward her opponent. It could not miss.
"Red, use Sand Attack on the Natu." Nodding her large head, the Pokemon rose from the ground and spend towards the green bird, kicking sand towards its eyes. |
