Nathara glanced around with growing confusion as the darkness continued. This couldn't be a normal blackout. Why were her pokeballs acting strangely? Why was the entire street affected?
Her attention was returned to the snubbull as she spoke, voicing her desire to accompany them until she could find a new home.
"Well, alright. I'm not sure if I'll be able to capture you, though."
She returned the ignored potion to the bag, and exchanged it for an empty orb. Sparks were flying from this one, as well. Not sure just how well this would work, if at all, she lightly tapped it on the pokemon's head.
How long is this going to last? Will someone be able to fix whatever the problem is?
Nathara mused as she waited for the pokeball to either finish shaking or eject the canine.

The Snubbull almost sneezed when Nathara tapped her with the Pokéball, bu she held it in. The ball absorbed her in, though she whined as she touched a spark. Snubbul shook in it, she would stay, but, she felt pain.
Snubbull stayed, though. It would be best for her. She would just demand to be released after this.
You caught a Snubbull! Name: Level: 11 Moves: Ice Fang, Fire Fang, Charm, Bite, Tail Whip, Tackle, Scary Face Ability: Run Away

Nathara picked up the pokeball as it ceased shaking, and stowed it back in her bag. All of a sudden, she was alone. Razel wasn't there by her side, or Irene clinging to her shoulder. Tego wasn't there to buzz around cheerfully and brighten the area with his happiness. When had she become so dependent on their company? Just three days ago, she had started her walk towards the Lab. She had been completely alone, but she hadn't been affected by the solitude.
Now, she had no pokemon by her side as she stood up again. Why was this time so different? They were in their balls for their own safety, until whatever was happening had been rectified.
Stop acting like a child. They're right in your bag if you need them.
That thought comforted her slightly, and she moved forward. There might be pokemon panicking from the blackout. It was the least she could do to help calm the situation.

Ah, the lovely darkness. The Gastly floated through the alley. Seeing through the darkness perfectly he noticed some trash cans were knocked over and a cardboard box was crushed. <Hmmm, looks like something happened here.> He said, though it was quite obvious that something did happen. Looking up he noticed a Trainer walking out. A wide smirk cam across his face as he floated near her. What a perfect thing! Darkness and the chance to spook a Trainer!

Nathara hadn't walked far from the scene of the battle when a chilled feeling swept through her body, causing goosebumps to lift on her arms. It felt like something was watching her, as cliché as it sounded. Wishing that she had left Irene out even more than before, she turned around.
In the darkness that was only partially lit by the fall sunlight, a ghostly figure was floating. It's large white eyes were watching mischievously.
Oh, it was a gastly! She would recognize those unnerving eyes anywhere. She hadn't been as scared of ghost types as her other siblings. Actually, she had always found them fascinating. How could some things pass through them, while others didn't?
Pulling herself back to the situation, she gave the gastly a warm smile, her previous fear gone. It was nice to be back in the company of a pokemon.
"Hello! How are you?"

The Ghastly was just about to play his trick when the trainer turned around. And did she look..... Happy that he was there? That wasn't suppose to happen! Stopping short of the trainer, he gave a quizzical look listening to the female talk to him... Happily....
The ghost type almost replied back with a 'better before you turned around' comment but held it in and decided something better. Creeping ever closer to Nathara, the Ghastly started laughing much like someone psychotic and gave the female a mean look. <Aren't you going to run little girl? Or are you frozen in fear?>
Another laugh escaped the mouth of the ghost type. He would make the trainer fear him if he had to. ::ghastly:: Ghastly|Male uses mean look

Nathara shrank back a little as a psychotic laugh escaped the gastly's throat. The mean look that he gave her made her muscles tighten involuntarily. Was this Pokémon trying to scare her? He was doing a pretty good job of it.
"Look, if you were trying to scare me, you succeeded. Was there anything else you wanted?"
Her voice was a little shaky, but the tone held a bit of annoyance. This ghost wasn't in any trouble, didn't want a friendly conversation, and didn't seem to want a battle. Why didn't he find some civilian to terrorize? She had things to do.

- The Gastly had sought to forfend his scary reputation around these parts, but this human. This...mortal was resisting his mean look. He sensed the presence of Pokemon on her, and was aware that she must have been a trainer of some kind. He growled, annoyed that she hadn't screamed in terror or sent out a Pokemon in order to save herself. What did she take him for? His honor was on the line here!
- Suddenly he was agog with the feeling to prove himself to this girl, this human that didn't see him as a threat. The trails of his gassy path flickered at the girl's neck as he hovered around her, knowing that his Mean Look would prevent her escape. His body was somewhat cool, maybe even a bit humid, something that one wouldn't expect from a Gastly. If her hands even brushed against his body, it would reveal its malleable appearance, having his body move around whatever part of him she touched.
- <I doubt you heard the scuttlebutt going around these parts, young lady.> He hissed, his truculent nature showing in the fierce gaze he cast upon her. <What are you waiting for? Draw a Pokemon. If you dare.> He let his tongue lick against her neck, teasing her with a disgusting, horrible feeling.

A shudder ran down her spine as the gastly floated closer to her, letting some of his gaseous tendrils run along the skin of her neck. Her previous annoyance was gone, replaced by barely-concealed terror. This ghost really was doing an excellent job of chilling her to the bone.
While these confused thoughts swam in her brain, the pokemon spoke again, daring her to fight. A cool tongue licked her flesh, and she suppressed another shiver.
Was a battle with this pokemon really wise? The gastly would frighten any one of her team she sent out.
Not every pokemon.
She had no doubt that Razel wouldn't be afraid of this ghost. He didn't seem very afraid of anything, besides going hungry. Unfortunately, the sneasel only knew normal attacks.
Nathara took a deep breath to calm her frayed nerves, and took a step away from the spirit.
"I-I'm sorry, but I don't think so."

- <You don't think so? Fine. How about we play some games instead. Maybe...hide and seek?> The Gastly laughed, even though his pride had been hurt when the girl refused to fight him. What kind of mockery was this? Was she too good for him all of a sudden? The gas Pokemon momentarily disappeared, however, only by spreading out his gaseous particles so they hid in the safety of a garbage can.
- Then, suddenly various pieces started to glow, as if he was possessing them. Actually, his body was lifting them up, twirling around random banana peels and rattling half empty boxes of cereal around the girl, creating quite the ruckus.
- <Can you find me?> He whispered with a snicker, releasing his mean look so the trainer would be granted some movement. Leaving the area, however, was not an option. His truculent nature seemed to be overruled by his urge to play, though not in the good way.

Nathara felt a wave of relief as her muscles loosened again. This gastly wanted to play a game? Well, what was the harm in hide and seek? The rattling and clanging was rather loud, though.
She took a second to calm her racing heart, then scanned the alleyway. There were a few dented cans, food scraps, boxes, and the like. They all glowed with the pokemon's purple energy. Nothing jumped out at her as suspicious as she searched for the "hiding place".
Where would he choose to hide?
Behind once of the dented trashcans? No, he seemed like the kind of pokemon to hide in plain sight. Perhaps that cereal box...
She knelt down next to the small container, and gently opened the lid, holding her breath.

Less than agog at this Trainer's lack of imagination, Gastly disappeared from his hiding place and rematerialized in front of Nathara with a smirk gracing his gaseous face. "Nope. You're pretty bad at this game," he mocked, taking the oppurtunity to make fun of her since she had done as much by denying him battle. "Try again," he sighed dramatically before evaporating again, reforming himself in a discarded can of only half empty Pokemon Food. The girl would never find him in there. ::gastly::

Nathara felt irritation rise inside of her as the ghost taunted her before hiding again. There was no way to find out where he was hiding! All she could do was make a guess and hope she got lucky.
At least it isn't a pokemon battle.
That was true. No matter how unfair this game was, her pokemon weren't in danger of being harmed. If pokemon battles weren't necessary in order to function as a trainer, she probably wouldn't take part in them. Something about making sentient beings fight against each-other seemed wrong, almost cruel.
Then again, Razel seemed to enjoy fighting.
She bit her lip, realizing that she had let her mind wander again. It was a nasty habit, especially when she was supposed to be finding that elusive gastly. Nathara searched the cluttered street with her gaze again, trying to find a possible hiding place.
Well, any guess was better than none. Stifling a sigh of frustration, she crouched down to open a random can. It stunk rather horribly, but she had never been one to care about such things as smell. Working at the Daycare, one encountered more than a few unpleasant odors.
(OOC: I think my muse has finally recovered! *cheers*)

- <Hehe. You found me this time.> He chuckled, almost as if he was laughing at the humans touch as she lifted the can over. His body then gathered around, giving him a shape and form right before Nathara. After hiding successfully for so long, suddenly he seemed much more cheerful than usual.
- <Ah, you know...this city is all dark now. The ghosts love to play. Oh yes we do.> He commented, now floating around her head in a relaxed manner. The Gastly mused about somethings, as if this girl would be safe in such a situation. It was true that it didn't particularly matter to him, but he still felt some sense of worry.
- Nothing was worse than imagining a kind person dying from something bad happening on the streets. Would she be ok? She looked defenseless. Even if she did have Pokemon on her. He only gave her the occasional look before slipping right behind her playfully, trying to just get out of her reach.

Oh, so he was hiding in there. A strange feeling of pride swelled in her, almost as if proving herself to this gastly was some important accomplishment. Nathara smiled at the ghost again as he looked at her with a more cheerful expression than before.
The pokemon was no-longer radiating a sense of evil mischief. It had changed into relaxed playfulness. Her own posture loosened slightly as the tension inside of her eased. She watched contentedly as the ghost type swirled behind her, apparently trying to play a game akin to keep away.
Do I really rely this heavily on the company of pokemon?
The answer was yes, of course. This pokemon's strange company had almost completely banished the anxiety that the blackout had caused. It was as if having a pokemon around somehow protected her from the dangers of the world.
She reached her hand out to brush his gaseous form, but he was just out of reach.
"What do you ghost pokemon do when it's light outside?"

The Ghost Pokemon snickered and close his eyes at the question. <We don't mind the light, we just stay away from it. Then, people see us. We like to lay low until it's the right time to stri-show ourselves.> he said, floating around the Trainer's head.
<We lay low in the alley ways, hidding in the shadows until some-a Pokemon comes along.> He said, slipping up once again. He has got to stop doing that.

Nathara noticed both slips, but thought little of them as she soaked up the information.
Yes, that's what I guessed, but I had never known for sure before now.
The reason that she asked was that Nathara had never seen a ghost type sleep. Admittedly, she had only seen a few at the Daycare, but it was still strange. They had usually sulked away during the daylight hours, only appearing at night for meals.
"Fascinating, thank you."
Ghost pokemon didn't mind brightness? Amazing!
"It has to be lonely, though. You can't have too many friends if you live to scare others."

- <It's not so bad. I see people like you from time to time. And there are a few Pokemon that I'm friends with.> He smiled at Nathara's comment, although he did live a rather lonely lifestyle. Sure, he was around the busy hustle of the city, and he pranked plenty of Pokemon, but all that did was scare them away. Usually for good. Only a few others liked his pranks, or even appreciated them.
- <I like the city though. There's always something interesting going on.> He chuckled, pausing to float next to Nathara's head as his attention fixated itself to the roads. Cars were pretty busy, and pretty much all of the Wild Pokemon knew that avoiding them was a must. Once one of them died, the rest of them knew about it and learned.
- He never had to worry though, seeing that such things never phased him. All it would do was go right through his body, while giving the driver quite the scare. A fun past time, but dangerous for others.

"I can imagine."
So far her day in the city had been more than interesting. She had saved a voltorb from getting run over, accidentally destroyed a pokemon's home, and gotten stuck in the middle of a city-wide blackout. These sorts of things didn't happen too often back at the Daycare.
She stopped her train of thought short, realizing that she was neglecting to continue the conversation. No topic came to mind, however, and she found herself fidgeting with one of her pokeballs.
"How about I introduce you to some of my partners? Unless you want to get back to pranking people, which I would completely understand. This blackout won't last forever."
Nathara took out Razel's ball, and held the sparking orb gingerly while she awaited the gastly's answer.

The Ghastly thought for a moment. The human was right, this darkness wouldn't last forever, why not have a little fun before then? <I'll tell you what, let's play a game of hide and seek. You're Pokemon find me and I'll tell you something about us Ghosts.> He said happily.
