The weak Magnitude made the ground rumble, but the sturdy bug type hardly noticed it. It caused him pain, yes, but nothing significant in the slightest. The Diglett had a better plan with the Sand Attack and Astonish combo, though he didn't dare say it. He already knew that the kid was sensitive, and adding in something snide on the side wouldn't help anyone. <Come on, you can do better than that.> His eyes twinkled, telling the Diglett not to give up.
He hopped forward, feeling the familiar sting in his eyes as his trainer called out a familiar command. "Go for Tackle." Which was short and sweet. The Pineco went ahead after the small mole, though his small stature made things difficult. Such a small opponent, and he wasn't even sure if he would manage to hit it.
He had enough faith in himself to do a good job, but when he missed after trying, it only frustrated him. Eyes narrowing in heated concentration, he lunged at the Diglett with a weak Tackle headed towards it.

::diglett:: Pokemon battle ! Diglett looked up at the bug-type as he encouraged him, a small tear of doubt leaving one of his eyes. <O-okay.> Replied the small mole before the Pineco came forward with his counterattack. Giving a squeak of fear, the Diglett attempted to duck into the ground; however, Yamato managed to reach his target in time, pounding the mole's head just as he was dodging. Diglett gave a squeak of pain before forming a quick plan. He attempted to target where the Pineco was possibly standing, then tunneled back up in that spot and tried to scratch him from underneath.

The Pineco only nodded to himself at the Diglett's low confidence, feeling a little bad for the kid. He knew some of his life's story; about a giant Diglett family here in the city, and that his friends didn't like to play with him. Family was always something that took a while to appreciate, while friends were something special to have. If that Diglett didn't have friends, he was missing out on a lot of things.
"Hey Yama, get ready." Susumu tensed up as the Tackle just barely made a hit against the Diglett, but now that the mole was underground, it had to come up sometime. Was this the Dig attack? Or was it simply trying to sneak up on Yamato when he wasn't looking?
Bo-Bo, the Bellsprout, stared nervously at the battle, wondering if the Pineco was going to be too mean to the Diglett in the fight. Pokemon did tend to get carried away with things, she admitted, so of course she was worried about the ground type. Her vines trembled, sensing some kind of movement in the earth. It was faint, but she could sense it moving near Yamato. 'Meeping', she closed her eyes, unable to watch as the Diglett appeared from below and scratched at the Pineco's hard shell.
<Yikes!> He yelped, bouncing backwards as claws scraped away at his shell. His defense might've been raised a little, but this Diglett had quite the attack. Maybe he was going too easy on the little guy.
"Go in with a Tackle." Susumu only casually flipped open his Pokedex, curious about the moves his Pineco knew, and what he was bound to learn soon. Bo-Bo and that experience share of hers was supposed to give her a little level up as well, which was nice. Yamato acted as if he hadn't heard Susumu, but went ahead with the Tackle attack anyways while aiming at the Diglett's hip.

Diglett let out a terrified squeal and tried to duck underground, but his inexperience showed yet again and he was too late, the sentient pine cone bouncing painfully off his tiny body. He let out a squeak of pain; it hurt, despite the advantage type lent him. Seeing as Magnitude and Scratch alike had been ineffective, it was time to go back to a more effective method. That was how things worked in battle, right? Gulping in fear, he let out a squeal that unleashed malevolent red pulses of energy that quavered in the air, distorting it with the sheer power of the ongoing squeal as they expanded, threatening to catch Yamato in their path. ::diglett:: Used Astonish.

After making that Tackle attack, Yamato was feeling rather smug with himself. That is, until he was reminded that he was taking on a little kid here. He seemed pretty worried about himself, and Yamato had to keep telling himself that this was a battle that was only for fun--not to be mean or anything. The Astonish charged after him with that spooky ghost type energy, but he wasn't about to flinch this time! He hopped backwards a little in a fail attempt to dodge, and ended up getting smacked by it anyways.
Only then, did he grunt and pick himself back up from the ground. For such weak attacks, the Diglett was using them pretty well. He gave it that much, before scolding himself again because he was supposed to be nice to the little guy. Man, this was hard. He was just a tough guy that liked to battle, not baby others.
"Keep it up, Tackle again." Susumu was sitting back down now, munching on an apple while Bo-Bo was happily sipping down some fruit juice. All things he picked up at one of the local convenience stores, not really caring if they weren't made for Pokemon. The Pineco groaned at the order, getting bored with Tackle, but went ahead anyways in an attempt to charge into the Diglett. His accuracy was just a wee bit off, and he ended up tackling into thin air. Whoops.

The Diglett thought he was gonna get hit again for sure but it didn't happen. He saw Yamato just kind of Tackle at...nothing. It was quite humorous in appearance actually and he chuckled a little. He was nervous about this battle and didn't think he would be doing well at all but apparently he was. What a surprise! ::diglett:: <"H-How am I doing now?"> he asked. He let out a loud Growl before hiding underground, burrowing over to Yamato, and popping his head out suddenly with a scary face that came with waves of red energy.

The Growl was cute enough to lower Yamato's offensive power, and he nearly flinched at the completely random Astonish attack. That was mean, doing something like that to him. But that one little growl was enough to keep him in check, making sure he wasn't all that mean to the Diglett. <You're doing great, kiddo. Have enough yet?> He asked, starting to get tired after all they went through in such a small amount of time. What was it, 20 minutes? It felt shorter to him, since he actually enjoyed himself. Did they really have to fight until one of them fainted?
<Hey Yamyam, don't be too rough!> Bo-Bo made the nickname up on the spot, seeing that she had a simple name like that, why couldn't he? The Pineco glared at the Bellsprout as she drank some kind of juice on the sidelines, why, she had it so easy! If she wanted to fight, then by all means, she could go ahead!
"Boost up your defenses and go with a Harden." Susumu thought it over, deciding that it would be ok as long as the Diglett kept using offensive moves. Maybe it would make Yamato last a bit longer in the battle, or prevent him from using his potion supply. The Pineco nodded, glowing with a silvery color until a new layer of his shell grew on him. After the battle, he had no choice but to shed it off, but for now, it was the perfect way to add to his defense. "Bug Bite." The trainer grinned, knowing that it wouldn't be that much longer now. Chances were looking good on his side, and Yamato seemed to sense it too. The Pineco hopped up in the air and charged towards the Diglett with his shell flaps slightly opened and suddenly clamped down, trying to 'bite' the ground type.

Diglett squeaked fearfully as a glint passed over the Pineco's shell, signalling an increase in defence. As it rushed towards him, he froze, unable to move as the Pineco's maw opened wide.... The squeal echoed into the skies as the little mole's hide was pierced by the surprisingly sharp teeth of the Pineco. Whimpering as his vision blurred unpleasantly, he did the only thing he could, and raked his claws futilely on the Pineco's shell, hoping the close range would allow successful contact as his body grew ever weaker. ::diglett:: Weakening. <Ugh...> The Pineco shuddered as the claws ripped against his hard shell, feeling a bit of a sting from the blow, but due to his previous Harden, he took it rather well. He appeared pleased with the change in damage, but one look at the scared looking kid and he couldn't help but wonder if he had the heart to knock him out. <Hey...can we stop? I think I learned enough already from the battle.> He tried to appear cheerful, though honestly, he didn't know what he would do if the Diglett was knocked out. Susumu had a thing against capturing young Pokemon, especially after his experience with his trainer in the first route. This Diglett was young, and most likely wouldn't be caught.
<Susumu, I'm done.> The Pineco backed off from the Diglett, staring at his trainer as if to signal his unwillingness to battle. Susumu looked curiously from the Diglett to the Pineco, wondering what got into them. Was it really just a friendly battle...? Well, they had been playing with each other earlier, so maybe Yamato liked the little guy too much to make any 'final blows'.
"I get it, I get it. I think that's enough." The trainer sighed, gathering up some of his things and stuffing them into his bag. Bo-Bo looked up in alarm, sucking a little on the juice box at the same time. Was it all really over? Did he not care about levels, for once? Her trainer...was so kind.

The Diglett was readying himself for another attack, he yelped quietly as he heard the Pineco say something. But then, no pain came. He opened his eyes and noticed the Pineco had stopped attacking him. He had also asked to stop the battle. <S-stop? I can g-go on if you wanted to.> He said, not wanting to ruin anyone's fun. <O-Oh, really? You look really worn out...and if you faint, well, it would be better if you had your family around to protect you.> The Pineco shifted around nervously, trying not to harm the Diglett's self confidence in himself. He was young. He didn't like fighting in friendly battles were they beat each other unconscious. It didn't seem right.
<No, no. He's done. You should both rest up. Good job.> Bo-Bo walked into the middle of the fight, clapping her leaves together with the strange contraption on her head. Already, she felt strange with it on. As if she was learning something by wearing it. She winked at the Diglett as if to prove that she was confident in his abilities as a fighter, while a sudden rumbling sound disturbed both her and Bo-Bo.
"I've got a Potion, Yama. You should probably take it and get some rest." Or at least take a break, which was what Susumu was worried about. The Pokemon in this area could be at least 5 levels stronger than Yamato, so he wanted to make sure that the Pineco didn't get too damaged in a single battle. He gave the Pineco several sprays with the Potion, until it was finally used up. Yamato was nearly completely healed, and a little rest would take care of the rest.
<I think we're gonna get going, Diglett. Nice seeing you.> Yamato nodded at the ground type, sensing the change in the atmosphere. They wanted to explore a lot of the city before taking on the gym, and even the contests kind of sounded interesting.

Pokemon encounter ! +1 level to Yamato, 0.5 levels to Bo-bo
The Diglett nodded in a disappointed way towards Yamato, even though he felt he'd only just gotten started in that battle. It wasn't until now that he felt the full extent of the pain he retained from the fight, though, and he cringed a little from the pain. At least they were kind and not ruthless like other trainers he'd witnessed before.
<O-okay. Thank you for the battle.> The diglett said meekly, nodding his head towards the pinecone, sprout and gentle human. He then tunneled into the ground, returning to his family for a rest.
--------- Pokemon encounter !A Spinarak lounged around on a web she crafted herself, waiting boredly for a Murkrow or something to fly into it. A sigh left her jaws; she'd been waiting there, nothing to do, for so long that she could almost feel her brain falling out.
Suddenly, she spied the presence of a human and two pokemon approaching. Excitement filled her; she could net some easy experience off of these fools!
Crawling down from the web, she stood a fair distance from the human (to make sure he could see her and not step on her) and cleared her throat. <Ahem. Would you care for a battle, sir?> She requested in a dainty voice. ::spinarak:: Challenges you.

"Oh, hey, is that a Spinarak?" Susumu asked as he stared up towards the sky. The shimmer of a shiny web had caught his eyes, and being rather bored, he found his eyes wandering to all kinds of places. Not in that perverted way, as there were no other people here at the moment. It was just that part of the city where no one liked to go, he supposed. Yamato and Bo-Bo turned curiously to the green creature, and as she got off of her web, she politely asked for a battle. With one of them, right? The two Pokemon exchanged looks, though Bo-Bo held a gaze that was more worrying than anything.
<You just battled...> She was concerned, but didn't act as if she was going to stop Yamato from getting himself hurt. He was an explosive Pokemon anyways, so he was bound to get a few scratches no matter where he went.
<I had some kind of antidote or something. I'll be finnnee. Please, can I? I never get to fight bugs.> The Pineco pleaded, hopping up and down excitedly near the Bellsprout. Bo-Bo just seemed to sigh, not even sure what was right anymore.
"What's the commotion going on--hey, what's with the Harden?" Susumu exclaimed, noticing Yamato's shiny glimmer on his body. Bo-Bo was acting up too, trying to push him farther away from the two bug types. Were they going to battle? Well, that was helping out his Pokemon Training job a lot.
<Your move, miss.> Yamato's eyes shimmered with excitement, knowing that he should probably wait for his trainer's command before using any attacking moves. Harden was always safe to use, so why not?

Pokemon battle ! The Spinarak grinned when Yamato wasted no time and immediately hardened his body for battle, accepting her request without hesitation. <You're my kinda bug.> She said with a grin of her fangs.
Without another word, she aimed at the Pineco and shot out a net of a sticky, webby substance at him to wrap his body. If it managed to hit the pinecone, she would then pull the thread to tighten it around him. ::spinarak:: Spinarak Used Constrict on Yamato!

<Am I now?> Yamato asked, not sure what to make of the Spinarak's sly remark. He was still pretty young, but right at that point where he was in his teenaged stage. So maybe he was interested in the ladies, but there were so many other things he liked to focus on. Training was his main priority, though only because the big man with the blond locks said so, but were there other things?
The constrict managed to get him around his shell, and with his heightened defense, started tugging away at his body. He grunted from the move, feeling nearly suffocated in its grasp. At first, it made him jump out of fright until he realized what was going on. Damage was being done, but it would take about 10 of those before he would even be close to feeling weak.
"Get out of it with Bug Bite. If all else fails, back it up with Harden." Play it safe. Playing it cool, Susumu kept repeating that in his head. It would've been hard for his Pineco to attack the Spinarak in this sticky web, but if he could break free from it, all was well. The Pineco made a hasty chomp at his binds, wondering if it would have any effect or not (a mod will determine it). After his effort, he bulked himself up with another Harden. If that coy girl had a surprise for him, at least he had his guard up.

>How uncouth!< The Spinarak cried out as the Pineco's fangs chomped aptly through her masterfully, meticulously crafted thread with a bone shattering snap, the recoil from her connection with the Pineco breaking sending her slamming into a trash can with an almighty clatter that sent Pidgey and Starly wheeling into the skies. >Ouch.< Spinarak got up, shaking her legs to relax her muscles a little and stop them from freezing up at the sudden impact. She grinned at the Pineco flirtatiously. >So you like playing rough, do you?< she inquired, a glint in her eye as she gazed upon the sentient pine cone. Without waiting for an answer, Spinarak reared up on two of her six legs and spun around, revealing the second face on her back, which immediately began to twist and contort into a rather intimidating smile, the face gaining an ominous red glow, before Spinarak turned around, the venomous barb atop her head glowing a bright, toxic purple as she rushed for the Pineco in a close range Poison Sting attack to try and bring her rather bashful looking opponent down that little bit faster. ::spinarak:: Constrict broken. "Keep bulking up, no need to take damage you don't need." Susumu sagely advised as the Scary Face twisted and reared its ugly head. Yamato hardly heard the command, just stiffening in utter fear as the face had an eerie glow upon her body. Now that he was stuck motionless, the Poison Sting had an easy time striking his body. He yelped at the pain, just glad that he had his defenses doubled from these past turns and tried to hop out of the way of the rest of the assault. No need to stand there and take all of it!
<Rough? I haven't even attacked yet.> Yamato retorted, trying to regain his sense of confidence and masculinity. He bulked up like his trainer suggested, though at this point, it seemed pointless. He was completely good to go when it came to taking these low powered physical strikes.
"Take it down." Susumu grinned, knowing the move was a bit reckless, but when Yamato was near full health, it wouldn't be all that risky. Not that the Pineco was worried, he was a risk taker anyways! He charged happily ahead without much regard to his own safety, guaranteeing recoil if the move hit.

The Pineco continued to make himself harder and harder. This was getting ridiculous. How was she to cause any damage if he continued to raise his resistance to said damage? Well, there was always one way, and he had to keep trying, no matter how long it took. But first, she had to deal with the incoming Bug-type. He was coming right at her, no worries for her own well-being in a dangerous Take Down. He desperately tried to get out of the way, but it was to no avail. The Spinarak let out a squeal of pain as Yamato rammed right into her center, sending her rolling backward like before. She managed to land on her feet, though, and face off with the Pineco yet again. She shook off the blow and said <Ha...! If that's all the power you've got, then you're in for a bad loss!> Of course, this was a bluff. That attack had done quite a number on her. As she figured, there was only one way she could hopefully come out on top; and that was through Poisoning. She had to continue to fire the somewhat-ineffective Poison Stings at her opponent until the poison managed to seep into his body. So, that's exactly what she did. However, the first thing she had to do was pick her back half off of the ground and lift it into the air, carried by her front two legs. The glaring mark on the her back made quite a Scary Face in the Pineco's direction. Immediately following the Scary Face, while still on her front legs, she opened her pincers and unleashed a barrage of poisonous barbs at Yamato, trying to hit him with a Poison Sting attack. ::Spinarak:: Hit by Take Down! "Yikes, it's tough." Susumu commented when the Spinarak endured the hit. He took out his Pokedex to get a better idea of what he was up against, and just by glancing at its resistances he realized that Bug Bite wouldn't do much against it. The best offensive moves to use would've been Tackle, Take Down or...boom. But he was saving the boom for later, if possible.
The poisonous attack managed to get in through Yamato's shell, infecting him with some kind of venom that dealt damage occasionally. It even made him glow a faint purple whenever he was harmed-- kind of pretty when you looked at it. Susumu glanced at some of his Lum Berries, questioning whether he should use them now or not. Rational thought said to wait a bit, so he would.
"Don't let any of her attacks take you down. Just conserve your strength with Harden and Tackle." Poisoned, huh? That wasn't good. He was actually hoping that it wouldn't happen, but now he had to deal with it. Yamato cringed from the poison, but nodded and boosted his defenses again. The Take Down had hurt him pretty good, which made him wonder just how much pain the Spinarak was in right now. The Scary Face she used didn't help him either, only scaring him back into place until he mustered up the courage to charge ahead and tackle the scary thing.

Again with that move! Ug! Soon it was going to be like she was attacking a brick wall! The face on her thorax looked annoyed to display her current emotions bubbling in her chest. Her body was throbbing still from that last attack, and she knew that it wouldn't be long before she was going to be struck down. Still, she had to muster up some energy and find the will to fight. She wasn't going to give up so easily. The Spinarak was determined now to win this fight she decided to start, even as the Pineco was heading straight for her now. She couldn't move out of the way, it would cause her too much pain, so she took the attack straight on and felt a shock wave of agony shoot through her. Even though she felt so weak, she immediately pushed herself back up and lunged at the pokemon. She was going to draw some strength from him, even if his shell was very tough.
