s i e r r a c a t a l y n n It was cold.
Sierra shuddered, arms hugged to herself, as she wandered around the dark, lightless city with only the moon to show her the way. She was looking for a place to stay, but it appeared everyone had gathered somewhere else or were still sleeping, since the power outage had only occured just a few hours ago when everyone had gone to bed.
It really was odd. No outage she'd seen before had affected the entire region like this. She'd never been afraid of the dark night, but it was only because she knew that the light would be waiting for her at home again. There was no hope of light as it was; the unfamiliar darkness was now alien to her, unfriendly.
The girl hardly thought at all as her shoes tapped, tapped on the cold concrete sidewalk. How alone she felt in these empty streets, surrounded by looming, desolate buildings.
A hint of coffee in the air roused her to reality again, and as she took another whiff she realized that she was feeling a really, really huge urge for coffee. How she loved coffee. It had a whole new depth of flavor that she adored, and when sugar and cream were added to it the depth rose. And drinking it made her feel so.. mature.
All she knew at the moment, though, was that she wanted coffee. She crept closer. Verona Cafe was usually open this late, wasn't it? Well, what could be wrong with going in if it was before closing time..? That is, if no one was working. Sierra took a look around to make sure she wasn't being followed before creeping inside.
It was quite hard to see, and at this point she wished she could've gotten an electric or fire Pokémon that could've helped her navigate. She hadn't contemplated the possibility of a blackout, unfortunately.
The young girl fumbled through the darkness, nearly tripping over one of the stools which sat in front of the counter, then regaining her balance by descending quite ungracefully onto the polished surface. The smell of coffee strengthened. She was nearer.

JOSHUA DONOVAN DALE.mirror lie to me, tell me you can see && maybe you won't be able to recognize me now- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Alright, so usually, for all moral and ethical purposes, breaking and entering was wrong. It wasn't just wrong, it was beyond wrong. It was a crime. A crime that you could be arrested for. Did Joshua care? No, hell no, not anymore. Ever since he'd convinced himself that his true path was on the wrong side of the tracks, he'd become much braver with challenging the laws of the land. And while a lot of people were terrified thanks to the sudden blackout, confused and afraid, he was completely at ease. He knew what had caused it. He was a part of the organization. And alright, so maybe they needed schooling in naming skills, it wasn't really all that original, but Team Death provoked a side of Joshua that he usually kept under wraps, and for a good reason. He'd never been a particularly pleasant person, but this was pushing it, expanding the boundaries of his limits.
Surprisingly, he looked forward to it.
And so, while once he might have sighed in disappointment when he realized his favorite place to come for tea - he hated coffee with a burning passion - was closed, and left without pursuing the desire, he now shamelessly picked the lock on the door and crept inside. He probably should have locked it behind him, but he didn't think of this as he strode forward confidently in the darkness, with the aide of the cat Pokémon in front of him, and her lovely night vision, making it possible to navigate without crashing into anything. He even had the guts to stride in full view of the windows sometimes, his cockiness was that impressive, but no one was visible on the darkened streets, and so it had no real effect. It was just nice to feel so... so in his element.
After making sure no wild Pokémon were set to jump at him from out of the shadows, he wandered over behind the counter and located the tea-making machine, his eyes having adjusted to the gloom pretty quickly. He'd always loved the darkness of night, and so he was more used to it than some. The machine made an odd sort of noise as it worked, a sort of humming gurgle, but he didn't think that anyone else would be around to hear it.
That is, until his ears picked up the odd sound of a muffled fail. Blinking, he glanced over his shoulder, only for his eyes to widen in surprise. "Sweet Arceus - Sierra!?" he demanded, obviously in shock. "What are you doing here?"

s i e r r a c a t a l y n n Sierra had only just regained her stance when she heard a loud voice. Whoever it was, they knew her name, and when they asked her why the hell she was here she was able to put a name to the voice. "Shi - Josh!?" She cried out in reply. What were the odds of them meeting at the same time, same place, both breaking into a cafe? She was definitely going to look back on this and laugh.
"I'm- I'm just here for.. coffee.." Sierra admitted, still quite shaken about the whole thing. Geez, she sucked at night vision. How could Josh have walked through this place so professionally? Maybe he broke into buildings more often than she thought.

He had expected an answer like one of her Pokemon had ran in here, or something... something that didn't suggest that she'd broken into the damn building. Joshua hadn't taken Sierra to be the 'wrong side of the tracks' type at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite. She struck him as the type that would be fun-loving, helpful, law abiding, and, erm... against Team Death in all it's entirety.
No way am I mentioning that to her.
Things were bound to be a little awkward if she found out that he'd agreed to join up with the organization that was not only shorting out power to the entire region, but also stealing the Pokemon of trainers and Gym Leaders alike. Looking back on it, he was lucky Blaze hadn't stolen any of his own Pokemon when they'd initially fought, but the recollection was quickly dismissed in favor of the current situation, which he was still trying to process.
"I felt like a tea," he said, smirking a tiny bit. "Apparently you've never walked around a place like this in the dark before, hmm?"

s i e r r a c a t a l y n n Sierra caught Josh's silent stare and stared back at him; what else could she look at, anyway? The moon had chosen a different place to reflect its light, leaving only his luminescent eyes to light her view. Eventually he replied with his own confession, startling her a little. Ergh, tea. She'd tasted a warm cup of the stuff before and utterly abhorred it; what was it except hot, bitter leaf juice? She much preferred coffee over it; the bitterness of that beverage only served to compliment its taste. And it calmed her down.
No, she hadn't walked around in a deserted cafe in the dark. She had walked around her neighborhood at night, enjoying the cool and beauty of it, but after venturing out of her safe little bubble she was rendered completely pathetic. Sierra was not a very good pathfinder, at least not in unfamilar places like this. And who could forget - she was terribly clumsy; tripping over her own feet was so common that she hardly ever noticed it happening anymore.
"Well, no." The teen answered finally. Then a thought came to her. "Are you insinuating that you have?" She inquired, passing him a small, mischievous grin. It was then that she continued her journey to the Coffee machine, which - good thing - was right next to the tea-making one, which was luckily generating a bit of noise she could follow. She clung to the counter with her hands as she did to make sure that if she tripped over anything else she wouldn't fall fail again.
Along the way there she had to let go of the counter; then, walking around it, she finally made her way over to Josh and the beverage-generating machines. Only now she wasn't stabilizing herself on anything.
A chance pipe stuck out between the cracks of the wall; it was due to this that she tripped forward towards Josh. It was a deja vu moment - although she was drunk that time, she'd remembered the first time she'd fell on Josh, at the party. But back at that time she had no inhibitions. This time, she did. Which is why when her face and upper torso came in contact with his abdomen, she let out some sort of pathetic squeak of shame and, pressing her palm gently against his rib, regained her stance. "Sorry," She said, blushing a bit this time as she thought about what happened at the party. Her actions were quite shameful that time, she knew, but now it'd happened again...

| [bg=000000][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,430px,true][atrb=border,0,true][rs=3]Eris 17.5 Artemis 14.5 Thanatos 15 COMMENT;d'ahw she's so ADORABLE | [bg=000000][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,430px,true][atrb=border,0,true] It took her a moment to answer, and Joshua wondered what was rushing through the girl's head as she remained silent. However, after a moment, she delivered a simple answer, and not only that, but the very answer he'd been expecting. No, she didn't normally take to creeping around in locked broken-into buildings looking for the coffee machines. Then, after a pause, she seemed to realize exactly what his words had implied, and he gave a slight smirk. It wasn't the smirk he reserved for his enemies, a confident one filled with sneering contempt, but it was rather one of amusement, and his gray eyes danced with the emotion in the weak moonlight filtering through the window.
"Perhaps," Joshua replied, his tone almost teasing as he used one of the most vague answers out there. Hell, she was smart, she could probably figure out that he was all but admitting it. Even the good guys could sometimes be into petty crimes or stupid dares, it wasn't like Joshua figured it would give him away. They were friends, surely she wouldn't jump to such a horrid conclusion? "Not that anyone would care, at the moment," he mused, shrugging. "They've all got more pressing matters on their minds, like the fact that they can't see two-foot fuck all in front of their faces..." It was rare to hear him curse so casually, but it didn't really signify anything today. He wasn't angry, nor was he feeling much of anything.
And then it happened.
Very similar to what had occurred at the party - only then she'd slipped on punch, rather than tripped - Sierra fell again, sending herself sprawling into his chest. Good lord, did he have a target across it, or something? Oh hey, land here? Not that he minded much. Joshua doubted she tripped all over the place on purpose, and it wasn't like her landing on him hurt. She seemed quite embarrassed, blushing cutely, but Josh only grinned and shook his head. "Don't worry about it," he assured her. "You're very light." There was the hint of teasing again, friendly humour dancing in his slate-colored optics as he - quite surprisingly - stuck out his tongue. Dear god, he actually had the capability of lightening up even when he wasn't drunk?
Who'd have thought?
Noticing that the odd humming had stopped, his brow creased as he glanced over his shoulder at the machine. "Ah, shit," he said. "I think it was just running off the trace amounts of electricity, but there wasn't much, and it's dead." Frowning, he figured that there had to be some other way of heating the water. "Guess we're stuck making our drinks by hand, provided we can boil the water. Tea tastes like shit when it's cold, and I can't imagine coffee would be any better..." Characteristically of him, he started to drum his long, pale fingers on a nearby tabletop. "Hmm... you wouldn't happen to have a fire Pokemon, would you?"

s i e r r a c a t a l y n n Sierra didn't care at all that Josh cursed in his answer - in fact, she laughed out loud hearing the word so humorously used. The girl was the type that was very easily amused by funny jests, and very very easily amused at funny and inappropriate jests. [This was before she tripped onto Josh, however.]
Rather than make a perverted joke or something like she expected, Josh shrugged it off. And called her light. Well, of course he wasn't a pervert towards her - they were so different in years that it would be a bit odd. But it partially bothered her that she failed to rouse any attraction in him. Well, not that she was attracted to him, but shouldn't all boys get turned on when girls fell on them? Wait, why was she even thinking this tahslsdksa herpderp [insert tangent about various feminine complexes here]. He stuck out his tongue after said compliment, which surprised Sierra but also caused her to laugh. There was more to Josh than she thought, wasn't there?
Suddenly, the buzzing noise of the tea machine stopped. Sierra's head instantly whipped around to face the two machines, who had now just puckered out of energy. Her expression, previously one of amusement, immediately froze into one of utter horror. "Noo!" She exclaimed. You can't drink coffee cold! It's just not rational!
Like he said, they had to make their drinks by hand - but how would one go about doing that? Sierra had an utter lack of fire pokemon, and based on his question, it seemed he had none either. "I don't.." She replied. "There's a lack of them in Route One." She sighed, then grasped a coffee cup anyway and recieved the last of the day's rapidly cooling coffee from the tuckered - out machine. They had no fire Pokémon nor electricity - how would they solve this terrible problem of lukewarm beverages?
Light Verona Cafe on fire, perhaps?

| [bg=000000][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,430px,true][atrb=border,0,true][rs=3]Eris 17.5 Artemis 14.5 Thanatos 15 COMMENT;<3 Josh is so socially awkward when it comes to relationships, I swear. Poor Sierra's feminine complex xD | [bg=000000][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,430px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The reason he didn't get awkward in situations like this was sad and simple - he'd never had a girlfriend before. Ever. Oh, Josh wasn't a virgin - hell no, he'd lost his virginity at thirteen - but it was more of the manner of relationships he was used to. He didn't really react to the normal situations because he'd never been in them. Hot girls merely made him shrug, or simply flirt a little. It wasn't unless they made it incredibly obvious that he caught on enough to actually feel anything at all. This was good if you were a girl, and his friend, no awkward situations there. But if you actually liked him, well, it would be a hell of a lot harder for Josh to figure it out. Boyfriend/Girlfriend was not his thing.
Not to say he wouldn't try, should the situation call for it.
And it was a good thing he didn't realize that she was bothered by the lack of an awkward moment, because that would have made it awkward. He wasn't the type to talk about that kind of thing with younger girls. Even though she was, technically, only three years younger than him. Which wasn't much. He'd seen relationships work with 11 years between the two. His grandparents had been seven years apart, father's side. He didn't get along with them, but they certainly got along with one another.
He sipped his lukewarm tea and made a face, nearly gagging. "That's awful," he exclaimed, setting down the cup and shuddering slightly. "I prefer it boiling hot." Seriously, he drank it while it was still scalding, completely disregarding the fact that he occasionally scalded his tongue and the roof of his mouth. It was better that way, and you could feel the steamy beverage resting in your stomach, searing down your throat. Perfect for colder weather. He also loaded it with so much sugar it could down a diabetic in a matter of seconds.
Damn it. No Fire Pokemon. "Me neither," he said. "I've got a Magikarp and a couple of cats," he laughed, "but no Fire Pokemon." And Joshua loved his cats, he really did, but... "Can you think of any other way?" he queried.

s i e r r a c a t a l y n n Sierra stared down at the rippling surface of her coffee beverage with a look of solemnity, then heaved a sigh and set it on the counter. "I can't think of anything." She admitted, turning and retrieving several bags of sugar from a rack, just two creamers from another. Turning back toward her pitiful lukewarm coffee, she shook the pink wrappers of artificial sweetener into the coffee. She took care to shake each one before ripping it; a custom ritual she always followed through for for drinking coffee in restaurants. She'd seen her mom doing it, and somehow she came to think that it was extremely important.
Once all sugars, amounting to double digits of packets, had been shaken into the once-black coffee, she ripped open the two petite creamers and poured in the ivory liquids. All the while she was thinking about a way to solve this solution. "Maybe," She said, somewhat absent-mindedly, "we could make a fire?" She suggested, an amused smile slowly rising on her face at the thought. "I mean, outside would probably be safer, but.." She turned towards Joshua, face still harboring a sweet, childish grin, and waited for his opinion as if she were a kid waiting for a guardian's approval.

It was something that often got him a ton of odd stares in public places, but he was oblivious to this fact as he dumped the packs in one after the other, flicking the sides to dispel any extra bits clinging to the inner packaging. He tried another sip, then shook his head, first grabbing another two sugars and adding them to the mix. "Still too cold to drink," he reported with a sigh, then raised his eyebrows at their usage of sugar. Seemed they had something in common. Grinning a little, Josh chuckled. "We'd be horrible diabetics," he observed, then shrugged. "Early grave's worth it for this stuff." He couldn't survive without sugar. The mere though of doing so made him internally cringe.
His eyes lit up when she mentioned making a fire. Uh oh. Seems he liked this idea a bit too much... "Ooh, I love fire," Joshua agreed, slight eagerness adding an edge to his tone. "In fact, we're in luck..." And he pulled out a package of matches from his pocket. Having never owned a Fire Pokemon - Torkoal didn't count, he had been given away much too quickly - but having a love for the element itself, was it really surprising that he carried the means to it on his person. "It's cold outside," he said doubtfully, frowning a little. "Wouldn't the wind just make our drinks colder?"
He was a horrible person, wasn't he? Encouraging youth to set things aflame. Ah, well. Wouldn't be the first time he'd done something doubtful. "We'd have to be careful, though," he tacked on with a slight frown.

s i e r r a c a t a l y n n Sierra gave a smirk and a laugh at his comment. "Definitely," She agreed, taking a spoon and stirring the sugars and creams into her swirling, boringly cold coffee. Sierra couldn't survive on anything BUT sugar. Hell, she'd once attempted to get off the stuff, but her body rejected nigh on everything else. It'd become too used to sugar.
Her eyes lit up when he agreed to her incredibly silly plan. It was incredibly amusing how every suggestion she made, even off the top of her head, Josh embraced. He was like her mischievous older sibling. "Let's do it anyway!" She exclaimed. "It's not that windy outside, is it?" She turned to walk toward the door, and at that very moment he added, We have to be careful, though. To this, she gave a laugh. "Sure, sure."
She pushed the door open and was surprised to feel an incredibly cold draft of air launch itself into her face. However, it died down quickly, leaving only the silence of night. "I-it's fine now.." She told Josh, her teeth slightly chattering from the chilly wind that was lingering in her thinly clad body.
