The first thing you might notice about Mikaela is the fact that she always seems to be smiling. It might not be a very big smile, but except for the rare occasions when she's feeling down in the dumps or what have you, you'll find her smiling. It's really quite becoming of her. She's not the prettiest girl you might find around, but she has her high points.
Adorning her cranium is a luscious head of red hair that she grows out to just past her shoulders. Naturally it's actually an ashy blonde, but she tends to color it a more auburn color because she hates the way her hair looks naturally. It normally curls a little around the ends, but Mikaela prefers to straighten it when she's not feeling lazy. Most of the time she keeps it down, but if she gets too hot or is having a particularly bad hair day, she'll pull it up into a ponytail to keep it out of her face and off of her neck. For her journey she'll be keeping it up.
To go with the blonde hair she hides is the stereotypical blue eyes and pale skin. Sunscreen seems to have been made just for her, as well. No matter how hard she tries, how much she puts on, Mikaela will always get sunburned. To make matters worse, when the sunburn finally heals she goes straight from red back into her pale skin. She gets a little bit of color, but if you were to grab any random person off the street, nine times out of ten she'll be more pale than they are.
Mikaela is very underweight for her height (five foot five). She weighs in at about 96 pounds, give or take, and the only thing she has to thank for that is her eating habits and high metabolism. Matched with a high rate of burning calories and just doing nothing and the way she only eats about 500 calories a day means she thin, scraggly, and without her clothes on she looks like a skeleton with skin wrapped over it. It's harder to tell with clothes on, as it doesn't show much in her face, but she knows it, and she hates it. You could call her anorexic, but she does eat so that's not really the case here.
Her clothing style is very lax. She doesn't really care what she wears, jeans, shorts, dresses, skirts. . . . Anything that fits the situation. Something easy to move in and something comfortable seems to be what she looks for the most when picking out an outfit, though, as well as the kind of weather she might have to expect. For her journey she had a pair of cargo shorts in order to utilize the pockets, a gray and white striped tank top, comfy shoes for walking, and of course a brown messenger bag to carry all of her stuff. She has an extra jacket in their in case it gets cold, as well, and a pair of sunglasses for that bright sun.
Look I made a doll cuz I'm epic like that and stuff.

personality personality personality personality personality personality personality
On the surface Mikaela is a completely different person from who she is on the outside. When getting to know Mikaela, people usually notice how happy she always seems to be, and how much fun she is. Mikaela is the kind of person who does enjoy having a good time and getting out of the house, even if her motivation to do so is minimal. Nothing seems to really bother her, and she tends to be a very hard person to anger. Mikaela prefers to just brush back insults as nothing more than words, and she stands strongly by her belief that words are just that; words, until you start making a big deal out of it.
And thus, she tends to threaten people a lot and she can swear a little more than she should sometimes because she believes they're just words people shouldn't get upset over. Her threats are always rather lack-luster, though, and the last thing she'd ever do is actually fulfill her threats. In other words, she's all bark and absolutely no bite. Half the time her threats are just jokes between friends. Mikaela is one of the most non-violent people you'll meet.
Despite this happy-go-lucky appearance everyone seems to know, behind the jokes and the laughter is a very insecure, shy, and depressed woman. If left alone, Mikaela becomes downtrodden and mopey, the smile leaving her face to be replaced with diluted despair. It gets so bad sometimes that she'll cry for no reason at all, or even at the drop of a dime. She's not one of those people who refuse to cry in front of others, though, and has no problem crying out in the open. She's been on medication before because of this, as her mother is far more observant than any of her friends, but she hated taking the pills and stopped.
Motivation is something she doesn't have a lot of. Mikaela tends to complain a lot, as well, and that's not an act or just a front. . . . She just really has problems with a lot of things, most having to do with effort. Mikaela has openly admitted that she is one of the most lazy people on the planet. She will go so far as to wait for someone else to get up just so she can say "While you're up, can you get me. . . ?" because she didn't feel like getting up to get it herself.
She has one particular contradiction in her personalty: while being the (self-proclaimed) most stubborn person in the world, she is also one of the most passive. What does it boil down to? Mikaela chooses the battles she wants to win and the ones she could go without winning. Once she chooses a battle, though, it takes a lot to get her to back down. She will make use of any loopholes she can get her hands on, and she's actually quite good with arguments.
However, on the passive side, she doesn't actually speak up that often unless she knows the people around her really well. She is one of the people who would rather avoid a conflict than get in the middle of it, choosing to stay out of trouble and remain unnoticed by the masses in order to stay safe and minimize her amount of enemies. Peer pressure rarely has any effect on her, and she actually goes out of her way to make sure that she doesn't do something just because everyone else is doing it or she's not part of the majority. She loves being the minority.
Mikaela is a woman of little wants. She is definitely not a material girl, despite living in a material world. Not very picky, she sets out to make sure she's not a burden to the world or the people taking care of her. Mikaela is fairly down-to-Earth and keeps her priorities straight. She tends to believes herself to be a bit of a tomboy, but she certainly has more girly moments than she does tomboy moments.

Mikaela was the first daughter of a young couple, her sister Kristy born just a little under two years after her. The pair grew up around Pokemon for the most part, as their father had dabbled a bit in journeying. He let them play with his Skitty, who slowly became more of a house pet than a Pokemon he could journey with. Mikaela always showed more interest than Kristy, though, who's interests lied in socializing and dress up.
Her father was always willing to answer any questions she had about Pokemon and showed her more of his than he shared with his sister, mainly because she just didn't seem to care too much. Eventually, though, all of this teaching and story-telling soon began to wear on the man and he started to long for those journey days.
When Mikaela turned ten she attempted to convince her mother to let her go on her own journey, but her mother wouldn't have it. She was too young, the world was too huge and dangerous, and she just didn't see the practicality of having a ten-year-old running around with the potential to get her hands on something really large with a lot of power and risk having her accidentally destroy a town or something.
She was unhappy with it, but Mikaela accepted.
Two years later, her father announced that he was leaving to continue with his journey. Mikaela was twelve and Kristy was eleven so they no longer needed the attention of two parents, and he would fund them with his winnings, and her mother was working. . . . He didn't leave without giving both of his daughters a present, though. For a few months before he left, he'd been working on breeding a few of his Pokemon, and he gave both of his daughters eggs.
Kristy felt giving her a gift that required so much responsibility wasn't really a gift at all, but Mikaela was ecstatic.
Her mother and sister were more torn up over her father leaving, and they couldn't understand why Mikaela had accepted it so easily. Her sister even grew to hate her a little bit because of it. Mikaela was just happy that her father was out doing what he loved doing, and he wrote from time to time to tell them how he was doing. She took good care of the egg and carried it everywhere, sure that if she could hatch it she could prove to her mom that she was responsible enough to be a trainer.
Months after her father left Mikaela's sister managed the guts to confront her. She was frustrated from having to care for the egg, which her mother was forcing her to hold on to in order to make their father happy, and told her that it was Mikaela's fault that their dad had left. That if she hadn't been so interested in Pokemon she wouldn't have reminded their dad how much he loved them, and then he wouldn't have left.
Mikaela was crushed.
That was the first and final straw. Mikaela held herself up in her room, unable to deal with the fact that she had made Dad leave, that it was her fault her mom was miserable and her sister was mad at her. For a while she believed her little egg would be the only friend she had.
Despite her sadness, the egg her father had given her hatched after four months into an adorable little Pichu. Her sister's wasn't getting as much attention as hers, so it didn't hatch until two months after Mikaela's, and when it did it was a tiny Cleffa. It followed Kristy around, but she never showed too much interest in it to begin with.
Mikaela and her Pichu, however, couldn't have gotten along better. Mikaela was the first thing the little Electric type saw when it hatched, and there was an instant connection. Mikaela decided to call the little thing Rugby, and the two were inseparable. It was little Rugby's doing that brought Mikaela out of her depressed stupor. She started leaving the house more and spending more time outside of her room and with her family, but it would otherwise bother her that it was her fault her father left.
It bothered her so much, in fact, she gave up on her dream to be a trainer. How could she betray her family again?
Occasionally her mother would ask if she still wanted to be a Pokemon trainer like her father, but for fear of insulting her mother and making her unhappy, Mikaela always told her that she was fine with just her Pichu, that she didn't need to go on a journey. Her mother always suspected something was wrong, but she respected her daughter too much to ask.
For years Mikaela just went on with her life, placing her life's dream to be a trainer on the back burners to keep her mother and sister happy. She even stopped returning her father's mail when he started asking when she was going to start her journey, when they were going to meet up and journey together. She didn't have the heart to tell him she'd given up on it because she felt guilty, so she just stopped responding, filling her heart with more guilt.
Rugby and Mikaela spent a lot of time together. After giving up her ambitions, she didn't do a whole lot else besides go to school and do chores. Eventually she landed a job working at a department store, but that only made things worse when Pokemon trainers continued to come in and out. Her mood worsened, and her health started to decline, but Rugby managed to keep her spirits at least a little high.
She tried her best to put up her best happy face, especially when Rugby started to worry about her. Their connection with each other was growing each moment and the two were closer than ever. He was the only person that Mikaela really trusted with her feelings, and he was the only one she could turn to when she was having problems. He didn't judge her or talk back to her, and he really cared about her.
Her sister and her Cleffa, however, weren't as great. They two quarreled even though they spent a lot of time together, and Mikaela figured it was only a matter of time before she gave the thing away.
At the age of nineteen Mikaela was talking about moving out of her mom's house finally. She'd managed to save up quite a bit from working at the department store and she'd overstayed her welcome, anyway, she felt. Her mother was helping her look for a place to rent and everything. One day, though, Mikaela's mom got stuck doing stuff for work and they had to meet with the landlord. Mikaela assured her mother she was ready and just went by herself.
Mikaela beat the landlord there and decided to examine the property a little bit. It was just a small apartment complex, but behind it was a wide expanse. With Rugby by her side, Mikaela wandered out back to see how much space there was. She wondered a little too far and a territorial Swellow launched a surprise attack. Rugby managed to chase it off with a well-placed ThunderShock before too much damage was done.
The years spent together becoming good friends and then the successful battle seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. Before her eyes, Mikaela's Rugby evolved into a handsome young Pikachu. Seeing that reignited the passion she had, and she returned home without meeting the landlord.
That night, with her new Pikachu present, Mikaela told her mother that she was going to be a trainer. Or, rather, she wanted to be a coordinator. She didn't much care for the battling, but the coordinating aspect was much more appealing to her. Her mother simply said "Hon, you can do whatever you want. You know I'll support you no matter what you want to do, and I know you've must been holding down this enthusiasm for a while. . . Just do what makes you happy."
She hadn't ever been more happy than she was that day. It took her some time to finish at work and get a few more pay checks, but by the time she was twenty, Mikaela was finally ready to fulfill her life's dream. With Rugby by her side, she was ready to face anything.

rugby the pikachu
Mikaela's best and longest friend. As an egg he was given to her by her father, a Pokemon trainer, when she was twelve. Mikaela took care of the egg all by herself until it hatched into a Pichu. They were best friends, and after a close call with a Taillow, he evolved into a Pikachu. He's a very sweet Pikachu that enjoys cuddling and being carried in Mikaela's arms. He's protective of her, though, and often threatens to shock anything that comes near her. Once he gets to know you, though, and stops seeing you as a threat, he's a very sweet and social creature. He adores Mikaela and the two are like two peas in a pod. She can understand him most of the time, though tends to have problems with other Pokemon.
