Nera looked around her at the trees lining the path she was walking down. She hadn't spotted any pokemon yet but she had heard a few hiding. She looked down at the great ball attached to her belt. Inside was her first pokemon, a Ralts she had decided to call Ikori.
They both hadn't gotten to battle yet but she was sure they would soon enough. The wind rustled though the trees around her and she swore she could here something. She tried to peer through the thick, green leaves but saw nothing. "Hello, anything out there?"

All that could be heard in the immediate vicinity were gentle sounds. "Shroom. Shroom. Shroom." If one could decipher Pokemon language, they could tell that these sounds were incomprehensible sounds of hunger. The mushroom was so hungry that she didn't even notice the sounds of an approaching Trainer. her natural instinct to avoid humans had been dulled by her natural instinct to find one or two Oran Berries to settle down with. Scuttlebutt said that they had been quite abundant around here of late. ::shroomish::

Nera looked around once again when she heard the sound. "Shroom?" Soon enough what was making the sound walked out onto the path. It was a wild shroomish. Nera stared at the pokemon for a moment before reaching for the great ball. She unsnapped it from her belt and threw it up in the air. "Alright Ikori, It's time for us to learn how to battle."
The great ball opened up and released the ralts in it. Ikori looked around before walking up to Nera and grabbing on to her shorts. Nera smiled down at her pokemon before turning to the wild pokemon. "Get ready Ikori. I want you to use Growl first then Shadow Sneak."
Ikori nodded then turned to the wild shroomish. He let out a growl before stepping forward a step. He then used Shadow Sneak to extend his Shadow and attack from behind the shroomish.

* (Attack -1) Hit by Shadow Sneak * Effect Spore Activates* Uses Absorb
- The Shoomish's head jolted upright when it heard the low growl emitted from the Ralt's, turning to face it defensively. She had originally wanted to track down the hints of Oran Berries from that scuttlebutt going around, but nature beckoned her forward, naturally accepting the challenge.
- The Shadow Sneak was surprising, but not very painful. When the Ralt's disappeared from view, she looked around, alarmed at what had happened. Up and down and all around, anxiously anticipating his arrival until he struck at her from behind, shaking a few poisonous powders loose from her body.
- That was it. She had to fight back now. Growling, she sent out several weak vines at the Ralts, all ready to leech off health from the little guy. It was a special attack related move, so those Growls wouldn't make her falter in the slightest.

Ikori tried to jump back when the shroomish used Absorb. He was able to get out of reach of most of the vines but one was still able to get to him. He shuddered as he felt a little of his energy go to the wild pokemon. He glared at it while taking another step backward.
Nera watched the battle from the other side and shouted out another attack. "Shadow Sneak once again." Ikori nodded and used the attack. After using his attack and appearing behind the other pokemon he made sure to jump back once again to keep out of range. Nera smiled at Ikori. So far they were doing pretty good.

Shroomish made a tiny sound, trying to recover from the Shadow Sneak attack. Her growling stomach was less of a priority now. Eyes narrowed at Ralts, suddenly furious that the horned Pokémon was standing between her and her meal.
Shaking with fury, she unleashed more vines, trying to Absorb energy from Ralts. <You're just a mean Pokémon! My mother warned me about pokemon-human partnerships!> she spat, <the Pokémon always ends up a horrible, bitter, vicious killing machine! I hope I defeat you and your human abandons you so you can learn some MANNERS!>

Ikori jumped back in time to avoid the vines this time. "Alight, your doing great Ikori!" Nera smiled at her pokemon partner. Ikori smiled back at his trainer and turned back to the shroomish. Just as he did he heard the words the wild pokemon said. He froze for a moment as the words registered in his mind. He glared at the other pokemon and let out a growl. "Ikori?"
Ikori took a menacing step forward. <How dare you! Nera would never abandon me and I would never abandon her! I will make you take back your words!> Nera stared at Ikori before turning to look at the Shroomish. "Ok Ikori, you know what to do. Use Shadow Sneak." Ikori leapt forward and used Shadow Sneak. He appeared behind the shroomish and attacked as hard as he could.

Oh, how it hurt! Shroomish squeaked in pain as the Ralts hit her quite hard, dealing Critical damage. He challenged her claims, and then proceeded to be exactly as truculent as she'd accused him of being? Now, how was that for proving one's point? However, the Shroomish was starting to worry more and more about her own fate after this battle. What was she going to do if the Pokemon beat her? Oh, dear, oh dear.
Glaring at Ikori, she tried to appear as fearsome as possible as she shouted at him, <You're a savage! You're cruel!> She wanted him to see just how evil trained Pokemon were. Did it occur to her that he would never listen to her? No, of course not. In the heat of the moment, beings were hardly rational. <First you attack me randomly, now you're trying to kill me!> Maybe he wasn't, but that hard hit had sure felt like attempted murder!
Wanting to steal back some of the health he'd taken, she concentrated hard and attempted to suck out some of his nutrients, if that evil thing even had any.

Nera stepped to the side as she watched the wild shroomish. She hoped Ikori didn't get too hurt, the wild pokemon looked like it was getting desperate. Ikori too started to watch the other pokemon carefully. He didn't want to get hit by its absorb. Just as he was about to move to the other side of the shroomish it used absorb. Ikori was only able to dodge it a little.
He felt some of his energy leave him as he staggered. He steadied himself and waited for Nera's command. Nera watched how the shroomish moved before coming up with a plan. "Ikori, jump up over it and use Shadow Sneak." Ikori nodded as he raced to the side of the wild pokemon before jumping up in the air. He then used Shadow Sneak over the top of the Shroomish in hopes of a strong enough attack.

Urgh... she was feeling kind of dizzy. Maybe it was the fact that she hadn't ate, and that the sudden battle had been interrupting her desire to find food. Or maybe it was the constant assault on her less-than-able body. Sure, she and the trainer's Pokemon were quite close in level, but she didn't have a lot of fighting experience. She wasn't usually an offensive Pokemon, she'd just gotten angry when the Ralts had assaulted her.
Her opponent was going to expect another absorb, wasn't he? She wouldn't be surprised if he was able to dodge a move he was expecting, but she only really knew two moves. Still, she hadn't used the other one yet, and that meant she had a better chance of striking, right? She really hoped so, because she didn't know if she could keep this up much longer.
Running rather bravely toward the Ralts, she launched herself toward him in a desperate attempt to Tackle him down.

Ikori eyed the wild pokemon as he leaped back after his attack. It kept using Absorb and he was getting better at dodging the attack. He kept far enough back that the vines wouldn't reach him but he would still be able to attack it. He was starting to get tired as well. Getting his energy taken wasn't helping him at all. He steadied himself and waited for the shroomish to use Absorb once again.
When the shroomish charged at him in a Tackle he was surprised. He tried to step back but ended up tripping. As he fell back he was hit with the wild pokemon's Tackle. Luckily the damage was reduced by the fact the momentum the shroomish had built up was waisted from Ikori falling back. He skidded on his back to a stop. Nera took a step toward her injured pokemon. "Ikori!"
The ralts turned his head to Nera and gave her a reassuring nod. He pushed himself to his feet and face his opponent once again. Nera watched Ikori before turning to the shroomish as well. "Ikori, let's end this. Used growl then Shadow Sneak." Ikori nodded and turned to the wild pokemon. He let out a growl before using Shadow Sneak. When he appeared behind the shroomish he aimed for what he thought was its weak spot.

It was all too much! Even though her moves had successfully reduced the attack of her opponent, the Shroomish was weakened greatly from fighting, and she didn't even have the energy to leap out of the way of the attack. Instead, she just gave a weak stumble, and it ended up hitting her regardless. She gave a meek groan of pain, trying bravely to stay on her feet. <You... savage...> But the poor Pokemon didn't even manage to finish the insult before falling forward into a dead-faint, clearly defeated. Apparently, the trainer-Pokemon relationship really was worth something, after all.

Ikori let out a sigh of relief when the shroomish fainted. He sat down on the ground hoping to get a little of his energy back. He eyed the pokemon, wondering what they should do now. Nera stepped forward and crouched next to Ikori. She looked over the shroomish as well. "Do you think we should capture it or just leave it be?" They both looked at the fainted pokemon.
Ikori really didn't want the shroomish with them, it had already shown its dislike for the both of them. He shook his head to show that they shouldn't. "You're probably right, though i think we should do something." Ikori nodded and pointed at Nera's bag before pointing at the pokemon. Nera guessed what he meant and pulled an apple out of her bag. She walked over and picked up the shroomish and set it at the side of the path with the apple next to it.
"There, now it has some food to help it recover and nothing will stumble over it on the path." Nera stepped back and over to Ikori. "Do you want to rest in the ball or keep going?" Ikori pushed himself to his feet and walked a bit down the path. Nera took that as a walk on and fallowed after him. Ikori felt stronger from the fight and hoped it would help him in future battles.

Right, so perhaps Hoothoot were supposed to be nocturnal, but if he were ever to follow the normal rules and laws of society, well, that would be a surprise. This Hoothoot was a lone wolf, and he did what he wanted to. In order to prove that he was cool, and different from his friends, he was attempting to reverse his nocturnal habits and become a day-owl instead of a night-owl. Not that they were really his friends, seeing as they had zero faith in him. Well, he'd show them. He was still awake, wasn't he?
Awake... but very quickly falling into a slumber. Perched on the low branch of a tree, he gave a soft hoot every time he slid forward on the branch and woke with a start, fluttering back into place. <No,> he mumbled. <Must... stay... awake... HOO!> Jesus, that had been a scary one. He'd actually almost fallen, there. He just had several more hours of daylight left, he could do it!
And that was when he fell asleep and fell out of the tree, landing with a muffled thump on the path in front of Ikori and his trainer.

Nera and Ikori had just barely started walking when they heard a Loud hoot. A second later something fell from the tree and landed in front of them. On the ground lay a sleeping Hoothoot. Nera and Ikori stared at the sleeping pokemon. "What the....." Nera looked up to the tree above them to try to see why the bird pokemon had fallen. She didn't see anything that could have caused it to fall.
Ikori stepped up to the sleeping pokemon and nudged it. It didn't look too hurt from the fall. <Um, are you ok?> Nera knelt down to look at the sleeping pokemon as well. She stared at it a moment before pulling out a pokeball. "Do you think I should try to catch it?" Ikori gave a shrug before gesturing for her to try. "Alright, here goes nothing. Literally." Nera then tossed the pokeball at the sleeping Hoothoot, crossing her fingers that the ball would work and catch it.

Of course, the Hoothoot, while asleep, was still at full health. And while he may have looked as if he were knocked out, he came to immediately as soon as the capsule closed around him, delivering a violent shock in the process. <Hoo!> he cried indignantly as the ball broke open and expelled him onto the road. Now, what the hell was all of this? He was trying to prove a point, not get stuck with a team out of nowhere.
<Just what do you think you're doing?> he demanded of the trainer and her Riolu, placing wings on his hips in a stern fashion. It was really a comedic stance, if you stepped back and looked at him. <Can't an owl get any peace without being sucked into one of those electric-shock traps, hmm?> Oh, he was aware that it was a Pokeball. He was a wise owl. But he hadn't even heard of Pokeballs electrocuting someone. Maybe it had been rigged by this trainer. Oh, the nerve of her if she'd done that! The very idea set his tail-feathers on edge!

Nera waited to see if the pokeball caught the hoothoot. The pokemon was pulled into its depths when suddenly the pokeball sparked. The pokemon was then released from the pokeball. The hoothoot looked up at them both with its wings on its hips. Both Nera and Ikori looked at the pokeball. They had heard the power outage had messed with the pokeballs, they just didn't know it was that bad. Ikori turned to the angered Hoothoot. <I'm sorry, we didn't know it would do that. We only wanted you to join us.
Nera knelt down to pick up the pokeball and was promptly shocked. She pulled her had back and waited for it to stop sparking before grabbing it again. "Man that hurts. No wonder you didn't stay in it. If you want we can battle. We want you to join us." Ikori waited for the hoothoot's response. Ether the hoothoot would allow Nera to try once more or they would fight.

>Asking doesn't hurt!< Hoothoot preened carefully, smoothing down his rowdy feathers with a few stern strokes from his beak. >Who do you think you are, young lady? Do you think we are mere animals, to be captured in your marbles and used to knock the Skitty out of each other?<Hoothoot didn't let up his tirade as he looked at the Trainer. >How dare you think you're better than us, and that you can do whatever you please without any ramifications! Well, I shant stand for it! Goodbye, you petulant brat. I hope we shant meet again. For your sake as well as mine.< With that, Hoothoot spread his wings, clearly eager to leave. ::hoothoot:: Mood: Affronted. Hoothoot is leaving. Interfere? [/B]

Ikori stared with his mouth hanging in shock as the hoothoot began insulting Nera. How dare it! He placed a hand on his own hip and pointed with the other at the bird pokemon. <You dare say that to her! The one who is rude here is you!> Ikori glared at the hoothoot as he took a step forward. <First you fall down in front of us and scare us silly. Then after we see if you're ok we want you to join us. We did ask and we would have asked sooner if you hadn't been dead asleep in front of us!>
Nera let out a sigh and placed a hand on Ikori's head to calm him. "It's alright Ikori, He has every right to be mad. We should have asked sooner." Nera turned her sad eyes at the leaving hoothoot. "I'm really sorry, but could we please start over. Would you mind having a battle with us?"

::hoothoot:: Pokemon encounter ! The hoothoot, after hearing the trainer's offer, turned around in mid-air and scoffed at the two assailants before landing back on the ground a way's away from them. He placed his wings on his hips like a chiding mother would do and offered his reply: <As if I'd play around with you clowns - me, the only day owl in Route One! Sorry, but I can't be seen with two mannerless buffoons. I'm going to go and protect my honorable title.>
Spreading his wings yet again, the owl flew up to a high tree and rested his plump bottom upon it, fanning his feathers in the cool wind to rest them. How he loved the daylight - the element all his brothers and sisters all missed out on. Night time was a horrible time to be awake.
While his wings shook, a fat feather unlatched itself from his wing and slowly descended to the ground in front of Nera and Ikori, getting stuck on a stray piece of wet dirt. The wind running through it was a warning that the lovely brown feather was not going to sit there for long.
There is an item in front of Nera. x1 Hoothoot's feather Pick it up or leave it?
