The city was bustling with activity, and Soren disliked all of it. It was a lot of stuff going on and he felt uncomfortable, especially with the buzz of the powerplant and all the electric pokemon scurrying around. Not that he had seen any. He just wanted to quickly get this over with, get his badge and ribbon, and leave. He felt more confident, going against Anthony first. His victory in Articuno's Vision made him much more confident.
Flynn had been healed up at the pokemon center and Soren was so pleased to see the Starly flying again, his wings completely healed. Though this was a show of favouritism, the trainer had tied a yellow scarf he had received from the pokemart --a care package from home?-- around one of the bird's legs. The glasses in the pack went to Genta, who looked quite distinguished in them. It also seemed to make him a bit stronger when the hoothoot used his mental capabilities. All these would be quite useful in the upcoming contest. He still was not sure which lineup he would use. Elsu and Nayj had proved themselves already, but he also wanted to see Flynn fly about, to watch Genta move and flutter, and to see Rei run around, forever grounded. Though he had decided to leave Leeta behind, to spend time with the other Ledyba he had saved at the power plant some time ago. Though his team wasn't full, he still believed that he would be able win this. He had trained his team well and still had his Swellow for emergency backup.
---
Soren walked into the contest hall after haven spent quite a while polishing his plans for this match. He had trained with his avians, leaning each others movements and cues. Though the battle did not hinge on whether he won or lost, a winning performance would surely be much more impressive. He had done his research and the Voltorb was definitely the one he was the most afraid of. Otherwise, he believed his pokemon had what it took to finish it off. Soar would go first, and the rest would fall into place. Once it was his turn in the rink, the 'morph walked in.
The stage was large and open, allowing enough room for his pokemon to fly without harming any of the spectators. Spectators. Soren felt quite uncomfortable, having them all watch him. The panel of judges were already enough. He knew that he was dressed quite unconventionally, for this era, this region, but these were his best clothes. White, crisp, clean, the outer layer free flowing and light, fluttering at every shift in the wind. They gave him the freedom to move with his pokemon, guiding them with subtle changes in pressure, movements that only they understood.
He had a single pokemon in his hands, already expanded, Soar getting ready for his contest debut. It wasn't his favourite part, as he preferred battling, but he could not help but feel pumped up. This was going to be a grand adventure, battling for the judge's favour instead of a simple win. The pokeball was thrown into the air and the Pidgey flew out of it, every feather on his body preened to perfection. His feathers spread out like a fan as he flew a little loop in the air, twirling just a bit to impress the audience, before making a turn and landing in front of his trainer, waiting for the match to begin.

Baby Rank Leader Anthony Name: Flash Gender: Level: 12 Attacks: Scratch, Harder, Leech Life, Sand Attack, Fury Cutter Name: Thun Gender: Level: 12 Attacks: Scratch, Growl, Astonish, Magnitude, Sand Attack Name: Light Gender: Genderless ( ) Level: 13 Attacks: Charge, Tackle, Sonicboom, Spark, Magnet Rise The lights flickered open and from it shown a boy ready for the competition. He wore his green scarf today, given to him by his brother and his signature orange striped t-shirt. He had lightning blond hair which fit his entire exterior. He quickly glanced over at the boy with his bright orange eyes and he pointed at Soren. "Hi-YAAAAAAA! You want to challenge me to a battle? A battle of speed is the game here! Lets see how you handle this." Speaking so fast that it would be near impossible to understand and fully comprehend what he was saying, unless someone had extremely sensitive ears that could slow anything down. He noticed a Pidgey used as the first pokemon and he quickly laughed. "Yee-HAW! A Pidgey? You are going to use a Pidgey in this Electric City? What are you doing? What's wrong with you? Let me guess... you are probably a bird type." He said again... Speaking so fast that it was near impossible to understand. "Let me show you what I have. You know, I will take it easy on you at first since you obviously are new to Electric City." He said and he quickly threw down a pokeball which released Flash, his Nincada. "By the way my name is Anthony. What is your name? No? Ready to battle. Sure. Lets get on the way." He said again... He was very fast with his speech... And he was always changing topics. Out of his pokeball came a Nincada which shined brightly onto the field. It looked like the pokemon was covered with some kind of white orb as it made the pokemon extremely shiny... Almost like a hologram. Flash came onto the battle field and began to look at Anthony who quickly looked back at Flash. "Come on Flash! Do what I told you! Lets get ready to own someone. Oh what? Lets do this. Yeah Yeah! Go Go Go!" He said to his Nincada... Flash began to run around with incredible speed, something not seen in many Nincada's. It ran all over the place and even did a few back flips here and there... Until it finally landed down and looked ready to battle. It looked at the Pidgey, and although most Nincada's would be scared... He was excited and ready. >Hi my name is Flash. What is your name? Oh you don't look so friendly. I guess we are supposed to battle. Lets do this. Yeah!< Flash said very quickly. It seemed he was very similar to his trainer in his speaking ways... That is a sign of a good bond between pokemon and trainer it seems... As Anthony's personality had ended up rubbing onto Flash. Anthony got ready and pointed to Flash once more. "Be ready Flash! Be prepared. Hee-yah!" He said as he basically allowed Soren to go first as he had not yet used a move. ::Nincada:: Out to battle. You can go first

Everything was going so fast. Soren had kind of anticipated it, as it was well known that Anthony was a coordinator that values speed, but nothing would have prepared him for this kind of speech. The boy gave him no room for any interjections and all Soren could do was just stand there and pretend to understand more than half of what he said.
Finally, the Pokémon was out. The morph felt a little rush go through his veins as the first Pokémon turned out to be the nincada. Perfect. This was going exactly according to plan. Soar knew what he wanted the pidgey to do and this was going to be a piece of cake. As the trainers stared each other off, so did the pokemon, before the contest was finally about to start, everyone simply waiting for Soren to make his first move. He had gone through the rules so many times he could recite them by heart, and now it was the time to demonstrate his abilities.
He raised his hand in an almost flourish motion, making his attire follow his movement, the white cloth dragging a bit behind. Nincadas were weak against flying pokemon, which was normal as the bug looked like dinner to him and Soar. "Fly," he called out, his voice soft, for the pidgey's ears only.
The pidgey flew up, each feather spread out individually as he took into the sky. The feathers on his chest were puffed up, beating and flexing with every movement of the bird's wings. His claws gripped a little handful of dirt as it moved upwards. As he flew closer to the nincada, Soar let the sand go and then used a quick gust, a move he specialized in, buffeting the small particles toward the opposing Pokémon.

Anthony smiled when Soren took the first move and mixed in a very successful pair of attacks too... He waited until the last second to throw the sand and used the gust to amplify it to really mess with the pokemon and make it near impossible to dodge. He smiled and then simply said. "Normally that could not be dodged. But lets see what SPEEEDDD can do!" He said as he quickly pointed to Flash. "Jump!! Move to the side. Avoid the attack. Show them what SPEEEDD is all about!" He said without taking a breath. Flash jumped with incredible speed and attempted to move to the side, but the gust threw the sand everywhere and he was unable to avoid the attack. It hit him in the eye, and the gust of wind hit him in the stomach and sent him falling back... Kind of hard. >Ouch... That was not fun. Okay, let me show you what I can do now!< Flash said as he awaited for Anthony's orders. Anthony smiled... "Okay you are better than I thought. But lets see you defend against this. Harden! Then Fury Curry. Now, lets show them SPEED!" He yelled and Flash began to shine very brightly. It was weird, this was probably the only time Flash wasn't moving around as he stood still to harden his shell and make it very shiny and very glamorous. He then suddenly disappeared after his body was hardened. He was nowhere to be seen as all, just completely vanished. Until a faint light appeared right above the Pidgey going straight onto him. He attempted to jump on him and use all his weight to get the Pidgey to the ground while slashing his wings with his claws to prevent the Pidgey from taking flight again. It was incredible how fast he moved... Incredible... Anthony just smiled as if he knew this would happen. He pointed to his pokemon and weirdly also slowed himself down greatly and was still for once also. "Boom." He said, expecting this to work and do a lot of damage. ::Nincada:: (-1 accuracy) (+1 defense) Hit by Gust and Sand Attack. Super Effective. Used Harden and Fury Cutter.

Everything was moving so quickly, Soren was almost unable to keep up. The nincada had hardened up and made its shell much more difficult to penetrate. That would mean that he would have to focus more on indirect hits, from his Pokémon. However, the nincada was not done. The bug Pokémon suddenly disappeared and Soren caught a glimpse of a movement, his eyes managing to spy a bit of a blur. However, it moved much too fast for him to react.
Soar's predatorial eye also seemed to, if not see, then at least catch a glance of his foe. He wasn't too sure when the nincada managed to make its way above him and the high speed made it impossible for him to avoid it. Fortunately, it had not damaged him as much as it could have -- Soar's natural immunity to bug and the rather weak attack protected him from serious damage. The momentum of the bug dropping from the sky did, however, send the pidgey down, hitting the ground.
"Ace." Soren's voice was much calmer and much slower, compared to Anthony's. He raised and arm in a swiping motion, shifting the air just a little bit to further his command. Soar immediately reacted, feeling the pressure shift and immediately following it up by using her claws to push him to the side before going in for the attack, moving around to match the nincada's speed, circling it once, before attempting to slash it with his beak.

Soar came straight down for Flash in a swift movement that even the quick Anthony had a hard time seeing. "Woah, talk about speed!" He said as the Pidgey soared down and struck his Nincada extremely hard. Flash started to weaken as he hit the ground after the attack. >Oh boss. I don't think I can take another one of those...< He said, slowing down a bit because that was such an incredible move that the Pidgey used on him. Flash quickly hardened his shell again, as it seemed to have lowered the attack slightly, although the attack still hurt like crazy... And he again ran fulls peed at the Pidgey and again attempted to cut him once more with his claws. >Boom.< He said again, hoping this would would leave a bigger mark as opposed to the previous one. He had to be more careful, the pure speed of the Pidgey was simply too much for him to handle. ::Nincada:: (Weakening) (-1 accuracy) (+2 defense) Hit by Aerial Ace. Super Effective. Soren wanted to retaliate properly, but he kept reminding himself of the rules. A contest battle was not for victory, but for the prettiest show one could give. The contest leader had something different in mind, though, as he went for the same routine that would not impress the crowd at all. The bug hardened his shell, allowing Soren to make his mind up for the next move, while the weak fury cutter came to slash Soar's wings.
This time, the attack did much more damage, catching the pidgey off guard. It still wasn't as painful as it could be, thanks to his natural immunity, but this was sending her in more discomfort than he expected. The attack managed to rip out some feathers and small tuffs of down were floating about.
Soren grit his teeth, hating that he had to go against his instincts to strike back hard and take the victory. "Now!" he said, hoping this would finish the nincada off anyways. First, it was a Capativate that was being used as the pidgey stared the nincada down, ruffling his feathers in an attempt to look impressive. All the while, a soft, pinkish glow emitted from every pore. Though it would not be of any use, as the nincada was a male and this attack would fail horribly on it, the captivate served its purpose when Soar then used an uproar, bellowing a horribly loud sound as she took to the air and tried to fly around the nincada to pester it with the noise. Every wave of sound had a slightly pinkish aura, making them more visible and more of a spectacle.

The Captivate hit the pokemon and did distract the Nincada for a second. But only a mere second when he realized that the Pidgey had a specific part that he had also. >Oh you aren't a pretty girl!< He said as he stopped getting interested in the Pidgey. But then the Pidgey quickly started to fly above it and emit some nasty sound to harm the bug type. Anthony was glad that this was used as he quickly anticipated it and quickly decided on his method of countering it. "Alright Flash! Now it's the time. Do it!" He said and Flash quickly jumped up with incredible speed and tried to fall on top of the Pidgey. He easily avoided the sound as he disappeared to a higher altitude than the flying bird so the sound did not come at him as loud. He was above the bird when he quickly tried to use his weight to push the bird down onto the ground and make it take a heavy impact that way. But Anthony knew this was not enough to defeat the Pidgey, he needed another plan. And that other plan came now... "Flash! Scratch the wings before you use your weight!" He quickly screamed to his Nincada. The sheer weight of the pokemon probably wasn't enough to bring the Pidgey down, but if he was able to scratch his opponent's wings then that should make it easier to bring the foe to the ground and give it a very hard knock. Anthony looked out at the crowd after calling this attack. He hoped this would dazzle this, as he thought this was a very effective way of getting the upper hand. ::Nincada:: Dodged Uproar (1/3). Jumped on top of Pidgey and tries to use weight to bring it down. Used Scratch on wings to help with making it hit the ground hard.

Soren kind of hoped that being locked in an attack was not that bad of a situation. He would be using this for the next few turns, his pidgey forced to continue the uproar until he calmed down. In fact, the screech that made pidgeys pests in the first place seemed to have gotten louder as Soar continued to attack nonstop.
The nincada was moving around so much it was a bit hard for Soar to keep up. Soren had a better view, from the back, and tried to help his pokemon out a bit. "Spin," he said, not quite an attack, but the Pidgey seemed to understand and stopped his uproar for just a little bit to tuck his wings in and spin around, loosing a bit of altitude as he did so but also preventing the other pokemon to stay on him.
The scratch had hit, but did not do the critical damage to Soar's wing. It did destabilize him quite a bit, though, but the moment the flying pokemon could discern which side was up and where the nincada was, the uproar continued, its power deafening. This time, the uproar's colour wasn't as nice, but its intensity and size was much more impressive, so much so that even Soren was a bit surprised.

Flash was sent flying back after the uproar had hit him and he almost fell hard onto the ground and out of the battle for good. He was able to get back up after the attack and quickly sent his own counter. He opened his mouth and tried to take a bite out of Pidgey's neck and drain blood from it. >Woah! You are very epic< He said to the pokemon with a statuesque type of attack. >But you are not more impressive than me!< He said as he tried to drain the pokemon good. Flash was definitely getting very tired and weakening a good deal from the Pidgey, but he was not going to give in yet. Not until the bird fell also... ::Nincada:: (Weak) Hit by Uproar. Soar was not going to allow himself to be outdone. He had not calmed from his uproar yet and was still screaming his lungs out, in a less than dignified manner. This wasn't the most graceful of attacks, he knew, but he still felt so much rage in him that he had to let it all out. Soren knew that this attack was starting to become a bit long, a bit repetitive, and just hoped Soar would cut it out soon. He toyed with the idea of switching pokemon, but decided against it. He was going to defeat the nincada one on one, showing that he was not afraid to display his pokemon's power along with their grace.
The nincada came close in an attempt to regain a bit of health. Soar tried to dodge, but the nincada was extremely fast, making it more than difficult to dodge. Fortunately, the attack did not do too much damage, and Soren quickly gave out his next command. "Dive."
He was not referring to the water move, of course, as that would have been simply insane, but Soar understood it. He started to fly upwards, higher and higher until he reached the ceiling, before diving back down, tucking his wings close to himself as he gained more and more speed, letting out one wave of uproar after the other. The sounds waves compacted close to each other due to the Doppler's effect as he sped toward the ground. Before he got too close, Soar quickly spread his wings, his whole body lurching at the abrupt stop, his head feeling just a bit light. Hopefully it looked all right to the spectators. That seemed to have calmed him down quite a bit, though, the stadium suddenly appearing much quieter now that he was not causing an uproar anymore.

Baby Leader Anthony could see the attack coming. He clenched his fist. "Watch it Flash!" He called out, cupping his hands around his mouth as he tried to warn his poke'mon. Nincada looked upwards, watching for a second as he was frozen in place. His legs jerked and it seemed like he was going to run to the side and dodge the impressive attack. The sound waves hit the ground and a cloud of dust and smoke rose up. Anthony tried furiously to see if Nincada had survived the attack, but the smoke was too thick. He coughed, narrowing his eyes. Moments later he could see his fainted poke'mon on the ground. Instinctively Anthony recalled Nincada. "Nice move!" He said to the other trainer, tossing out another of his poke'mon.
::nincada:: fainted
The poke'mon that appeared was Light the Voltorb. She spun herself around once and then narrowed her eyes with intent. Anthony grinned. "Let's go! Charge!" Anthony was seriously into the battle, and Light was feeding off of his energy. Her body began to sparkle and crackle as she built up electrical energy. Occasionally large static bolts would jump from her body to the ground around her and make an impressive display.
::voltorb:: used charge

Soren tried not to show the panic in his eyes as the electric type was sent out. He was terrified, his own being wanting to just fly away and escape, every fiber itching to go. Soar did not seem to frightened, and just flew small circles over his trainer, getting ready to perform once again. He was getting a bit tired, the previous attacks starting to drain on the pidgey, and his flight wasn't as flawless as it was before.
Soren couldn't handle it. He signaled the end of the contest and left. The electric pokemon so close to him made his stomach lurch so much, and his skin crawl, his skin resembling that of a swana. He couldn't do it. He was such a coward.
(level for pidgey for nincada) (leaving contest for now <3 gosh i can't stand keeping a thread unfinished like that.)
