Raff was sitting cross-legged in the corner of the entrance area, waiting to see if anyone would come battle him. Sitting beside him were two interestingly colored poke'mon. The one on his shoulder was a Taillow, but green and orange rather than typical Taillow blue and red. The calm male was nuzzled close to Raff and both were watching the other poke'mon. The strangely hued Horsea was sitting on Raff's lap, blowing small bubbles from the spout on his face and then giggling slightly. Scaevola, the Taillow, was not as amused. But Raff seemed to enjoy his small poke'mon's antics.

::Treecko:: ::Pidgey:: Nervously she stepped inside, holding her breath over the doorway. It was her first time in the trainers lounge and already she was thinking of leaving. But no, she needed to train her Pokemon. This was the only place besides the routes you could get any training done and the only place her Treecko Mint would talk about. That and her Pidgey Ancil was always up for some sort of fight. He was full of bravado. She bit her lip and looked around, seeing but one person here. Quietly she walked up, Pidgey on shoulder and Mint beside her. "Battle?

The blond headed boy looked up as someone else joined him in the room. Scaevola left Raff's shoulder and fluttered up to the ceiling where he began to circle around, watching the Pidgey with clear interest but less clear intent. Raff stood up, still holding the Horsea in his arms. "Hello." He said warmly enough. The blue and red stripes in his bangs were growing out, and brown hair could be seen around all of his roots. He needed to touch his hair up. The Horsea blew a large bubble from his nose and made a happy sound. "I have four poke'mon I'd like to train. Would you like a doubles battle or a singles?"

Raff smiled at the shiny Venipede as Maria released him from his poke'ball. Wasn't this just a shiny fest? Kneeling down he set down Da Vinci the Horsea on the ground. He balanced gracefully on his tail and leapt foreword, eager to fight. The Taillow swooped in close and landed on the ground beside the Horsea, ready to fight as well. "I have my two. You can go first." He might have made his move first, never one for 'ladies first', but he didn't know which of her three poke'mon that were currently out on the field she wanted to use.

She nodded, usually it was strange for others to give the first move in a match, it made for a less tactical advantage. Still she was glad for it. She needed all the help she could get. Walking out on the field went Mint and the Bird. They both needed to level up and they both wanted to eventually challenge the gym. She wanted to make sure that happened. "Mint, Leer and Absorb. Archer, use Sand Attack and Gust." The gecko nodded and Leered at her opponents, hopefully lowering their defenses. The Absorb attack was aimed at the Horsea. It was such a curious thing to have a water type outside of water. Archer's attacks were aimed at the other flying type. He kicked up mass amount of sand before using Gust to bluster it up even more.

Raff had a feeling the Treeko would be going for his Horsea. Grass against water, it was a no brainer. But he just grinned. Which should probably be cause for concern. "Scaevola, take the absorb attack for Da Vinci." He commanded first. The bright green Taillow swooped down, as he did he caught the tail end of the gust attack from the Pidgey. It drained some of his energy, and messed up his flight path for a few seconds. But he made it to his partner in time, and the Absorb struck his body instead of Da Vinci's. The attack was considerably less effective on the flying type than it would have been on the water type. "Now, Da Vinci use Aurora Beam on the Treeko. Scaevola use focus energy and leer on the Treeko." The Horsea pushed himself into the air, and from his nozzle-like nose came a stream of beautiful colors and energy, the ice-type attack racing towards the Treeko. Scaevola's concentration increased as he focused his energy and power, and then flew directly towards the Treeko, ganging up on the one foe with his fellow shiny.

A slight error that she already knew was bound to happen though it wouldn't take much to change her strategy. It was now that she was starting to get out of her reserved mannerisms and into a slightly more boisterous one. Battles made her come out of her shell a little bit. "Mint, dance!" The Treecko nodded and leapt out of the way of the Aurora Beam while it passed by her it his Archer's wing, causing him to shriek out in pain. >Sorry Archer!< The bird cooly nodded in Mint's direction. He wanted results not apologizes. At least his wing hadn't been frozen. With her out of the way for the Aurora Beam he also took the peck attack meant for her. It wasn't that he cared for his team mate but they were partners on the battlefield and they needed to act as such. "Leer and Absorb. Sand-Attack and Gust. Switch it!" Both of the Pokemon aimed their attacks at the Horsea, it being the only one with an attack that would damage them Both supereffective anyways.

"If your Pidgey is such a glutton for pain, let's go then." Raff said with a prankster sort of smile on his face. He had planned on taking out the Treeko as quickly as he possibly could, and then worry about the Pidgey when he could get out his Magnemite. But his plan had changed. It didn't matter, Da Vinci's Aurora Beam would hurt both of her poke'mon with the same intensity. Scaevola, while safe from attack, flew up into the air and behind Da Vinci. The poor Horsea was first struck with absorb, it sapped a great deal of his energy away. And then he was toppled around with a gust, his body weakly standing up. Raff issued another command. "Scaevola, give Da Vinci a ride." The Taillow rushed foreword and gracefully lifted Horsea onto his back as he passed him by. The two flew foreword, a knight on horseback, and directly towards the Pidgey. From Da Vinci's nose came a thick black smoke as they flew, a smoke screen, and then that same brilliant light. Scaevola leered at the Pidgey, daring him to try and top their combination. As he and his passenger neared the Pidgey, Scaevola prepared a peck attack for the small bird poke'mon.

Maria frowned at the way the battle was turning out. She hadn't expected to win per say but she didn't expect to be so bad. They needed a new strategy and they needed one soon. Archer couldn't handle the constant barrage of attacks he was getting. "We can do that too... Mint, Archer, fly!" Copying the other Pokemon duo Mint jumped on Archers back and they too flew into the air. Hopefully this would work. The smoke that came from the blinding attack caused Archers eyes to water. He would continue though, no matter what the cost! He flared up and took the Peck attack, the leer being lost behind the smoke. His flying into the air had caused the Aurora Beam to miss as well. Which was good. He was unsure if he could actually take an attack like that head on. All that was left was to try and keep their cool, try to keep themselves in the battle. It was time for the risk. Min jumped from Archers back and over the other duo, aiming a Pound attack at either the Taillow or the Horsea, it was hard to tell who it would hit. While Archer flew in fast and attempted to tackle the other bird out of the sky.

Raff frowned as his strategy was copied by his foe. Even Scaevola and Da Vinci seemed angered. The Taillow tightened up his flying so that he was moving faster around the arena (focus energy used), Horsea perched precariously but skillfully on the back of his partner. Raff shouted up to his poke'mon, lifting his voice above the noise of the battle. "Come on guys. Show'em just what you've got!" Scaevola waited until the other pair was close to them, just as the Pidgey's body was striking his own with a tackle and Treeko's fist was landing on his wings. The Shiny Taillow shifted his weight, letting Da Vinci hopefully roll off of his back and onto the Pidgey and Treeko pair. Da Vinci immediately let loose another Aurora Beam, preferably aiming at the Treeko but he was sloppy and there was a chance he'd end up hitting the Pidgey instead. Scaevola let his tired body fall down slightly below the Treeko and Pidgey, ready to catch Da Vinci if the Horsea leapt off.

Mint shrieked a little as the icy attack hit her and sent her falling out of the sky. She could feel herself starting to weaken a bit as she pushed herself upwards. This was what battling was all about, the pain and the strength to get through it. She could push on, she would push on. She shot an angry Leer towards them, determined to make her point known. She would not go down without a fight, ever. This was only her second battle and she was once again at a disadvantage. She had to last the first round at least. Aiming an Absorb at the Horsea in order to regain some of what she lost. The Gecko had a point to prove that was for sure. At this point with how weak she was her Overgrow ability was in play, it would boost any grass type attack she used.
Archer however was still focused on his main target, the other flying type. He had a terrible sense of rivalry towards other birds and for seemingly no reason. He liked to hurt them a little. He wanted to be the best. He kicked sand directly at the shiny Taillow, hoping to hit him right in the face. He could care less if his opponent could see the attacks coming. He was a bird on a mission and this mission was to win. To add to the amount of sand in the air he used a Gust attack. There was little doubt in his mind that this battle would probably come out as a loss but still, he had to try.
Maria was proud of her Pokemon. They both knew what they were supposed to do, the solo training they had done paying off. She cheered silently a trickster grin on her face for the first time in awhile. It had been a long time since she had battled someone else an actual trainer.

Da Vinci tumbled from the Pidgey's back as the Treeko did as well. Scaevola was prepared, catching Da Vinci on his back and then much more gently setting the Horsea down on the ground. He quickly bolted back to the skies. As Scaevola took the skies, the rain of sand fell around him and made it harder to see, until it was all blown away with the gust. But then again, Scaevola was also sent tumbling away and was damaged by the gust attack. With a determined look in his eyes and while focusing his energy, he banked left and then came full speed towards Pidgey for a peck attack. Meanwhile back down on the ground Da Vinci was in trouble. The small sea horse poke'mon was beaten down with the absorb attack, most of his remaining energy sapped away. He was spared only by the virtue that he was at a higher level than the Treeko and had more energy to spare over all. But there wasn't much left at all. With a heavy pant the Horsea leered in anger at the Treeko and then shot out his ice type aurora beam again, this time shooting it in short spurts like a machine gun so that he could most easily twist to change the aim of the attack if the Treeko moved.

She decided that taking the first bit of the attack would be better than taking the entire thing. She felt a little better after all, with getting a little health back from the absorb attack. She felt her defense drop though and knew that it would take all she had to survive the next bout of attacks. She went from an okay snout of health to very weak as the Aurora Beam Bullets hit her hard and fast. She tried to get out of the way of them, moving as quickly as she could and jumping into the air alongside the Taillow. She didn't attack him, just drawing the fire in his direction as well. She aimed another Absorb attack at the Horsea, hoping to draw what little health she could from it. She prayed to Arceus that she could last that long.
Archer was ready this time. His body was starting to ache from the hits he was taking but it would all be worth it in the end. As the Taillow started to come at him with the Peck he flew straight at the Taillow with a Tackle attack of his own, not even attempting to dodge. He would try and cause as much damage as possible to the other Pokemon.

There wasn't much left in Horsea's tanks. The final absorb finished him off and the tiny fraction of health was split and the half of the small bit went to Treeko. Raff quickly recalled Da Vinci, the poke'ball of Braden the Magnemite already ready in his hand. He tossed it out and the steel, electric poke'mon appeared and rushed into the battle, his one eye intent on the Pidgey as his magnets began to sparkle and crack. As the fresh poke'mon rushed into the battle Taillow was struck full force with the tackle attack in his chest as he crashed into Pidgey with his beak and face. He lashed out with his claws, trying to grab Arrow and swing him around and towards Braden the Magnemite. Although he didn't actually care where Arrow ended up, Scaevola just wanted to turn himself so he could fly at the very weak grass type and get away from Braden's attack on the Pidgey. With another moment of focus, Scaevola rushed at Treeko to finish him off with a peck attack. Braden released his thundershock attack towards the Pidgey, the yellow electrical energy rushing at the flying type with evil intent.

Archer screamed in pain as he was flung about, into the throes of an electric attack and already being a little on the weak side it almost pushed him to the point of breaking. He would push, just a little bit more. Weakly he flopped up, taking the chance for the Taillow being distracted in order to go after him on his own. He would take him down, he would finish this. A well timed Tackle Attack towards the other male bird. He winced as he tried to open his beak again, it was cracked. He cursed the other bird again.
Mint couldn't move, even with the little bit of health she had received from the Taillow there was no way for her to continue. When she was hit by the Peck attack she fell, knocked out from pure exhaustion. Maria recalled her back to the Pokeball, kissing it lightly before placing it back in her bag. Mint had earned a rest after all. Since he was already out on the field, Vaine was the next Pokémon out. The Unovan Pokémon wouldn't have as much trouble with the Electric Type. He was one of the Pokémon she had that lived for battling, it was all he ever wanted to do. He was fresh and ready to battle.... He screeched at his opponents. Being a bug it was a horrible warping sound that even sent chills down Maria's spine. He then targeted the Electric Type Pokemon, starting with a rollout.

Scaevola grimaced as the bug's eerie screech reached his ears as well as Braden's. Both poke'mon were affected by the attack and felt weaker because of it. The Taillow however managed to shift his position enough with a tight turn to let the Pidgey soar past him, allowing him to continue his tight turn and chase after Arrow in order to peck him. Braden although was struck in his metal body with the bug's vicious rollout attack. He flew backwards a bit and then hovered in air while his eye whirled around. It hurt. His one eye suddenly narrowed and he rushed foreword, the lights of the room gathering on his body and then all rapidly being discharged on the bug type. The powerful Flash Cannon rushed at Vaine, strong in power and with the chance to lower special defense as well.

Archer cursed himself as he flew past. The Taillow was fast and with the little amount of energy he had there was no way for him to be faster. His wings were starting to fail him now and he faltered in his flight. Causing him to crash down to the ground and the Taillow's attack to soar past him. It was all he could do to send one final gust attack at the bird. It wasn't his strongest ever but hopefully it would do. Maria pulled out Archer's Pokeball and recalled him as he fell to the ground, fainted. She hoped that the Gust attack would be enough to cause the Taillow to faint but if not she would surely have something else do the trick. From behind her a Teddiursa stepped from the shadows. He was never inside a Pokeball if he could help it. He handed his teddy bear to Maria and ran out on the field. He leered at his opponents, even though he was young he liked to practice battle. This would be fun.
Vaine was dissapointed. He wanted a flesh opponent, something he could rip and tear at. This would do for now though. His next opponent would have flesh, he was sure o it. He gave another screech, this time a mixture of an attack and pain. The flash cannon hurt damn it! He didn't like being the one in pain. He wanted to be the one causing it. Still, his rollout attack would only get stronger everytime he used it. He turned around and geared his body back up heading straight for the metal beast once more.
