Personality
Ryoku Ryugin is a wellspring of power, pride, and energy. He holds his physical strength and battle abilities in high regard, and will boast whenever he wins a battle. However, Ryo is actually quite soft-spoken, despite this, and will use his mind in battle in a way similar to using his strength; with expert technique and application. Unlike most black belts--which, even with his exile and mindset to use more than just the fighting type, he still considers himself to be--he actually isn't reckless with his actions. This doesn't mean that he won't be reckless at times, just that he tends to avoid reckless actions--be they in battle or otherwise. Ryo is actually fairly lax with his way of acting, and is typically seen as calm and easygoing. Ryo is also very respectful and jovial, often times using honorifics to address people and treating them with welcome arms, if he believes that they are no real threat to himself, his pokemon, and even his friends. To be honest, however, Ryo shouldn't really be considered a 'good guy'. He's more or less neutral the vast majority of the time, and will only usually go out of his way to do something if it affects him or those he cares about. Curiously, Ryo has a soft spot for women and small children, and can be prompted to go easy on/help them.
History
Ryo was born to a family of martial artists, whom had built up a relatively well known dojo in Saffron city. The dojo had it's fair share of losses while Ryo was growing up--a more notable instance being where a kid came and defeated every member of the dojo, taking the dojo's prized tyrouge--and young Ryo soon became very interested in battling with Pokémon other than that of the fighting type. However, such a thing was forbidden by martial artists of the dojo, leaving Ryo only able to train with machops and the like for many years. And years. And years... Ryo grew and matured, training his mind, body, and soul during the time he spent during his dojo life. Ryo had honed his body to a point that he could easily match the durability of the Pokémon he was destined to train, which was a nice bonus. However, as he continued to watch his fellow martial artist bretheren fall to such things as moves like confusion in one hit, the dojo's emblem Pokémon continually taken...he couldn't help but feel as he did before, reminded of the way he wanted to do things. At the age of fifteen, young Ryo decided that it was high time for a change of pace. His Pokémon were strong, he had to admit...but it was far too difficult for them to overcome the difficulties of being weak to roughly the same types. It was painful to watch a fragile-looking Kadabra feint a tough-bodied machamp. Ryo had enough, and openly stated that he, one of the strongest of the black belts, would personally change the rules to restrict use to only the fighting type...for himself. However, things didn't go as planned, and, outraged, the elders of the dojo stripped him of his rank, as well as his strong pokemon, and exiled Ryo from the dojo. However, the elders were not harsh enough. Following his exile, Ryo went to his room to collect his stuff, soon after going to release his Pokémon into the special training zone. Shortly after that, something amazing happened...a young Scraggy moved to challenge Ryo to a battle of strength. Unfortunately for it--and fortunately for Ryo--it lost, and immediately saw Ryo as it's--his--new master. From there, Ryo left the dojo, the level four Scraggy at his side, moving to start his first real Pokémon adventure...which eventually led him to Cheyenne during his travels.
Info: Started with a level four Scraggy as a pre-starter.
